This video is Perhaps one of the best ways to describe, Pico Azores . Sharing it with all my friends, family , followers and the world , cheers to a great Job.
I love Madeira from what I have seen in videos, and I feel lucky to have found your channel as you show the best of the island in a very professional and magnificent way. Apart from that you are a great person.
Thank you for expanding your horizons to visit Pico in the Azores. Some of my family from Sao Miguel Azores loved visiting Madeira and have encouraged me to visit as well. Came across your channel planning our trip to Medeira and looking forward to it. Beautiful videos of Pico. Hopefully you will be able to visit and explore some more of the Azores in the future.
I´ll do this climb, I´ll only will turn 70 this 2022, and my hair is only slightly grey and I´m slowly reversing it. Perfectly doable. Very nice, thank you for the vid.! 😄
What an amazing video, my friend! Nice mountain hiking! The nature is amazing.. Enjoyed watching. Cheers from Russia fellas, and welcome to my channel about bushcraft and adventures! Kind regards, Yuriy!
Thank you for your great report of climbing mount pico! I am dreaming of doing this so long and I hope that my dream comes true in the next years. Maybe I hike with picomeup next year on my birthday in early may, but I'm not sure if this time of the year could be right for an overnight sleep on the top. Wich month was your choice for the hike? You had awesome weather conditions...
You’re welcome Juliusk 🙏 Best to reach out to Pico me Up, there’re the experts ;) but we went over if I remember correctly last week of April …. Well worth it and would go back in a heartbeat!!
Awesome video! I climbed Pico last week and it was an unforgettable experience indeed just as this clip so well documents. Hard but rewarding just like most good things worth embracing in life are. Good luck to your team :-)
Fantastic video Jeff, you've made me want to climb Pico. I live in South Africa and was wondering if you could post the links that we could look at to find out more costs of getting there, accomodation, is there a package deal? Etc.. Good job bud.
Thanx Tony, there's a link in the subscription regarding how to do it, and also, I'm planning on heading out there in September this year as well as May next year, let me know if you're keen on joining me, I'm working on a package deal as we speak
@@Hittheroadmadeira That would be cool, not sure if we will make September but definately May next year. As soon as you have the package deal worked out please send it to me. Thank you for getting back to me 😁 keep up the good work 'best tour guide' on the world 👍
Hi! Awesome video! I want to do two weeks of wildcamping in the azores and Mt pico is on the list. I have a question tho, is the terrain suitable for a staked tent? Or is a freestanding tent absolutely required?
I wouldn’t have the slightest idea. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend wild camping, especially in Pico/Azores. The weather is way more extreme than Madeira and of course people get themselves into trouble. I would recommend getting in touch with PicoMeUp, the company we used. They’ll be able to help answer your questions at the very least or of course look after you there, their the head honchos on that island and whenever we’re there, they’re the first people we call! Good luck !!
I've been wildcamping at 4 islands a few years ago. Went with hammocks but in general I think with a tent it is much easier to find good camping spots. At Pico island we were lucky to find a free (!) campsite (in june, I think it was paid in july and august) at the North side of the island close to the ocean. It only had cold water showers but that was perfect for us. We used this camp site as our homebase for recovering after climbing Pico mountain. Was perfect. In general wild camping was easy. There are a ton of good facilities at the recreational parks (like barbecues and toilets) and every beach and sea based pool has cold showers, toilets and sinks which we used for a morning swim/shower/shit/clothing wash. Highly recommended. It was the adventure of our life.
How should one prepare to climb it with no experience climbing mountains? I'm in decent shape, but I get back pains. Thinking I should walk/run on incline on a treadmill to prepare. I'm also afraid of heights lol, but it doesn't look like the climb was too steep for you? I'm thinking of going in early December or January, but I hear that it rains a lot in Portugal during those months... Maybe I need a guide or group.
Hey bud! I actually wrote up a decent blog post about all of this, you should find it in the description of the video but basically I believe the best training is on a bicycle of some sorts … and of course, I wouldn’t do it without a guide, it’s a challenge, you want all the help you can get. The guys from PicoMeUp are the best ;)
