Liam it's your money and your hobby so of course it's worth the price. Looks and fantastic piece of kit that will hopefully give you years of enjoyment. Looking forward to seeing it on the hills in some action.❤
What a beauty! I love the thought of the greenkeeper wandering off after you mentioned you were just doing a "quick review," only to glance back and see you swinging it around above your head. 🤣
I strongly advise you to pick up the erected tent and hold it upside down to view the groundsheet from the inside against the sun. I bought a Soulo that had a groundsheet peppered with tiny holes. I only found out when water started leaking through on the first trip. Hilleberg quality is not always the best. Just be careful. Also, buy a footprint otherwise Hilleberg will argue that any groundsheet damage was caused by you.
Groundsheet of the tent should be 100D, then it is strong enough. Nowadays they want to cut weight so they use lighter weight weak fabrics. Using separate footprint is a PITA and it becomes heavier than thick and strong groundsheet alone
Absolutely sick tent bro. I did consider one but the weight put me off so went for the Allak without the footprint. Like you say, save weight in other areas and bask in the glory. Love it, man ⛺️👌🏻👊
LOL! Looks like my first tent - Berghaus Brecon 2. Goes up the same, nice and red and you could buy 10 of them for the Brice of that v v v nice Hilleberg.
I've got the same tent and I was thinking the same 🤣, but there's so much more to the Hilleberg, and he will put it through it's paces. There's also the resale value, they are good quality tents. Go for it Liam 😀
I bought my first Hilleberg a few years back during Covid. I went for the Rogan as I only need a 3 season for cycle touring. The first time I used it in Scotland, I put it up on a wild camp up in the hills above Loch Ness and moments after I got in it there was the wildest freakiest storm that hit the tent which lasted for two hours! The tent shrugged it off like it was nothing. a couple of vans and campers on the road nearby shut their door sharpish and buggered off and an MSR near me got wrecked! I knew then it was money well spent. I’ve had it a while now and it never lets me down, instill sconfidence and is roomy and comfortable.
Hilleberg introduced that tent in 1989... For me it is too low and has too angled walls, that is supposed to make it slightly more lighter and possibly more wind resistant (w.r. can be discussed though). Fjällraven Keb dome has better shape but it has continuous pole sleeves which make it a pain to pitch if it is windy, so Keb dome is still worse. At late 1990's Hilleberg introduced those clips for poles which was a significant step forward, especially for 3 pole dome tent. Even though it can be a bit difficult to reach those center clips it is 100x better system than traditional pole sleeves when poles cross each other. I see your head almost hitting the door opening, and you are sitting on the ground. Add a modern thick sleeping pad under and you are suffering, like if you want to cook at the vestibule. However those vestibules are too small anyway, not very usable. Hilleberg Saivo was similar, if you sat side by side with your companion cooking food at the vestibule you had to keep your head tilted - and I didn't even have a thick pad then. (And I'm not a tall person, 5'9" only). It also dropped melting snow water on my neck from the roof... After experiencing many Hilleberg tents and many others I've come to conclusion that the best they have is Keron GT. It has lot of practical space, it is simple and reliable, it has good ventilation (better than Nammatj), it is easy to pitch and it don't have annoying faults. Main issue with Hilleberg tents in general is they are too small and too low. Some details are not up to high standards either: silly buttons (toggles(?)) for hanging the inner tent, hanging straps will stretch, lack of storage pockets, no pockets for the doors, no snow skirts (Bo recommends digging tent in snow so you don't need them 🙄😂)....
@@GoodBlokeOutdoors Thanks. Staika is fine tent anyway, if not excellent and for sure very strong in high winds. Saivo was and is remarkable in that respect, 18.5m/s was the highest wind I was with it in Swedish Lapland and it didn't move almost at all. Who knows how much it could take. Dome tents are much more silent than tunnels and tent like Staika is immune for changes in wind direction unlike tunnels. That is a clear advantage and self standing structure sometimes too
Hi mate, I'm not a camper, just love watching your videos 😅. Been watching for a while and binged a lot of your previous vids. Mint craic and I love watching you graft it out in the minging weather with these posh tents. Brilliant. Keep em coming mate! Take it easy 👍🏻
Use it right and it's a bloody bargain. Put it this way we had them for cold weather courses when I was in the army and that was the 4 and 8 man ones. Costing 3-5k respectively. It was -32 on Estonia that week. I'm still here, those things are mint.
You don’t need to justify it. It’s your money to spend as you like. And it’ll pay for itself, I’m sure. Investing in things that keep you safe and make you happy is never a waste. Enjoy it!
I bought a used Hilleberg Unna over 10yrs ago. Hundreds of nights later It still looks and performs as new and will last me at least another decade (before I pass it on to my son). This is the kind of quality I'm willing to pay for and imho they're worth every penny.
Congratulations on your new tent. It’s a lot of money, but you use it regularly under testing conditions and enjoy it, it’s worth every penny. I’m looking forward to seeing the adventures 👍
Yes Liam mate they should be contacting you Mate the way you love them so much , and you love to talk about them all the time. Which I get because they’re a great bloody tent.. just saying ,but it looks great and I’m looking forward to seeing you out in it in all weathers. Thanks for sharing this masterpiece of a tent .see you soon.⛺️🥇🇬🇧👍
I've been cheaping out on tents but seeing you use your Hilleberg and that inspired me, So I just bought a Nortent Vern 1 cause it felt like middle ground for me still being fairly new to wild camping and what not. Keep going mate you're smashing it.
Naturehike cloud peak 2 is basically a clone of this design for 200 quid. Materials aren't quite as good obviously, but if your starting out it's a good tent and fairly bomb proof too. Will keep the rain off and had it in all sorts of winds just fine. I might get a hilleberg 1 day, but I'd be too scared of wrecking it to enjoy it I think. My tents tend to live a rugged life lol
@MikeR-pq8qe i had a cloud peak 2 and the zip broke whilst up a mountain in winter/snow 😫 had to go down in the dark.. a few days later I ordered my first Hilleberg (Soulo)
An expensive tent. But when camping is such an important part of your life it’s always worth it. Keep the ace vids coming dood. Also is camping gear addictive. I think it is.
That's a beauty. And yes, it does look good in red. Worth it? If you're an avid hiker and plan to use it regularly for the next 5-10 years, in 4 seasons, absolutely.
Great tent Liam, what people always forget and some of the people in these comments, who don't camp above car park level, is that there is always a strong resale value on Hillerberg or high quality tents. So 5 years down the line, it will still be worth over half of its value and what you paid if it isn't wrecked.
Congratulations, Liam, with your sturdy and spacious Hilleberg. Isn't she gorgious! She wil serve you for over 20 years in the best and the worst of conditions.
Looks like a brilliant tent. I always liked the GT tents (Nallo, Nammatj & Keron) because of the ridiculous vestibules where you can cook, have 2-3 big backpacks while keeping the door closed. Next summer I'm going to to a 7 day hike to Jotuheimen in Norway with 2 of my friends and our tent options are still open...
Got one of these over here in Australia. Probably a bit overkill for our climate in West Oz. But it's a great tent for our winter hikes on the Bibbulmun Track. Enjoy 👍
As per an earlier comment, check the groundsheet. I had an issue with the groundsheet on my Hilleberg and the customer service and resolution process was painful. Put me off an otherwise good product.
You’ve basically just purchased an incredibly heavy version of an Ultimate PhaserDome which were just as good and popular in the late 70s and early 80s. 😅
This is awesome mate, glad you’re happy! And you finally got that red you wanted. Was really hoping it were gunna be a nammatj as I’ve just bought one in green haha!
I love the red colour! I wouldn't choose it myself, but thats bc I'm a small sized woman enjoying nature solo, so I always aim for as much "stealth mode" as possible 😊 Looking forward to see you try it out! Thank you for another great video! ❤
FYI, the scarp 1 also has two doors and two vestibules… and is also a 4 season tent. Not too keen on the scarp colour myself but it seems to have a good reputation.
It’s an amazingly strong tent for winter! And for the other 3 seasons I recommend the Durston X-Dome, a two person version is coming extremely soon (also with solid inner), and it will likely weigh less than a third.
Carbon fiber tent poles are not friendly to windy weather in the UK. I have also used Easton tent poles. Compared with 7001 aluminum poles, the diameter is 8.5mm, the advantage is that it is lighter, but the disadvantage is that it is more brittle.
I know you loved your cloud peak when you had it till it failed. Glad Hilli have built a better made, quality and true 4 season version of it. I have the cloud peak but worry about zip failure every time I use it and now have a thahji 2 instead. Happy camping mate. Enjoy!
Nordic outdoors are doing the footprint free of charge with the Hilleberg staika and lots of other hillies. You just add them to the basket and it knocks it off at checkout.
If you are prepared to carry the weight what’s the problem … I’ve the nammatj 3 gt with foot print and pitched in named storms … great bit of kit … enjoy my man 👍👏
You got your red hilleberg!!! I was literally looking at this tent last night and I’m very much looking forward to seeing if you like it (I’m only a few seconds into your video 😂), congrats, buzzing for you mate!
I'm just imagining all the mess your going to do inside the tent while cooking now that you have double the space available, its gonna be a proper messy tent 😅 . Nice tent , the red color makes pretty pictures in snow , love it !
~412 £ for square meter. :) hope you will enjoy that tent. All the best fory you ! I'm also a fan of two mans tent for solo, two dors, and two vestibules. I end up on Terra nova Helm Compact 2. It was pricey too especialy with customs from Uk to EU. But it is all I need for now :)
When you're safely cocooned in a tent that's protecting you from severe weather the cost will be the last thing you think about, enjoy the security of your new purchase.
Been thinking about this same tent or the Allak 2 with the upgraded 10.2mm poles. Can’t wait to see your experience of using this 👍 like that each vestibule faces opposite direction on staika so if wind changes you can use other.
Kicking off 2025 with a big statement of in-tent...... see what I did there........ That's a beast of a purchase, gonna be good watching it being put through it's paces! ATVB
Good video! I got the Soulo BL and I never regretted it. The price tag definitely hurts, but I feel I will never buy another tent again. I have used mine in some very gnarly circumstances, snow storms on mountains etc, torrential rain in highlands etc. I am never going back to another tent. I got the mesh inner for summer months. Wild camp about once a month in Scotland and the tent is still every bit as good as two years ago when I first got it. My only facepalm moment was (and is!) that hole they left where the zippers meet. WHY?! I contacted them about this and was told they had to make difficult decisions to make the door and mesh light and easy to open etc. :( A hole the size of a fingertip... unbelievable :D but solid af overall.
Love the channel mate, I'm getting through them all and keep them coming please 🙏 I'm not sure if you considered the Terra Nova Quasar. It has the double entrance and porch and the difference in high winds cannot be matched because of the separate inner. Also of course British made but I get many are loyal to brands.
Nice tent mate ⛺️ it’s your hobby and passion so worth every penny your living a very healthy active life where others spend there money in pubs every weekend with very little to show for it enjoy mate you only live once buddy 👍
wowser!! lots of dosh for a tent, still , if thats what you want its all good, i would have green just because i dont want to stand out in the scenery!!
And the winner in the category "most tents owned by one bloke" is.......... 😂 Nice one mate, looking forward to seeing how you get on with this one 👍 take care and God bless you Liam 😊💪🙏
The Hilleberg tarra I bought cost over £1600, also bought a groundsheet a 2nd flysheet, giving me the choice of red or green. and a 2nd set of poles. Worth every penny as the strongest 2 person tent on the planet, a palace in the hills. Accrording to hilleberg, it can handle the wost weather on the planet. I used to take the tent solo everywhere, now I use a Soulo BL. Why did I buy the Tarra? I had a tent destroyed by storm in the Carngorms with estimated wind speeds of 80mph, so went for the strongest tent. The tarra laughs in the face of bad weather as if to say , is that all you got? Being a geodesic tunnel the internal space is huge.
Even though you wouldn’t want to part with any of these beauties feel the security of knowing you’ll definitely get most of your money back if selling in the future They definitely keep their value Very inspiring video again mate definitely need to get off my ar*e and sort this camping ish out this year

And both for superb ventilation on hot summer days 😀

Exactly! Well worth if it gets the use. Hilleberg tents are built to last 👍
Or, even 100 uses .. not necessarily in 1 long trip 😉
Awesome Liam, i am sure it will serve you well 👌 You said everything that needs to be justifiably said ..spot on 👍

It has the double entrance and porch and the difference in high winds cannot be matched because of the separate inner. Also of course British made but I get many are loyal to brands.
I bought an Allak 2 last April. Honestly, it's fkn awesome. Bomb proof. Enjoy the new tent lad.
Very nice bit of kit bro 👌
Be interesting to see how you rate it to your soulo, must say a do like that red colour looks propa 🎯
That Groundsman must of been thinking wtf is he up to when the tent was boosted above the head lol
Check out that drone slide through the tent! Video nasty ❤ geezer
Thank to RUclips you got yourself a Hilleberg!
No mate, thanks to all the hours of work he has put in, and going out in all weathers
@ they are not true nature lovers. They do it to receive freebies and make money from RUclips.
insane amount of money for a tent but if its your hobby and something you're passionate about then go for it; it's your money
Nice pickup bro nothing, and I mean nothing, beats the feeling of a new never been slept in by anyone else Hilleberg.......👍
You must be a Virgin
Nice one mate !
Enjoy your mega tent you deserve it and need it on your mega adventures 👏👌
Atb Graham
Nice to see you've finally gone ultralight Liam.😂
Cool Tent looking forward to the trials
Even though you wouldn’t want to part with any of these beauties feel the security of knowing you’ll definitely get most of your money back if selling in the future
They definitely keep their value
