    I remember a TV news story over 10 years ago, where a college professor (I don't remember where or what kind of professor) was using some lighter-than-air (Hydrogen?) gas to make the foam with, so that it would float up into the air. But since it was opaque and 5 to 8 feet in diameter, it scared airplane pilots who saw it as they were coming in to land. The professor got into trouble, and quit doing it. Can you say "No Fly Zone"? Radar Corner-reflector or no reflector

      Can I ask you a question(s)? What's the point of pre-expanding the beads? Can't you just put polystyrene beads in the pressurized steam mold until it expands into the mold, therefore eliminating the pre-expansion process?

    • @EPSEPP
      @EPSEPP Год назад +3

      @@cochorrorshow1005 sure, feel free to ask
      I think the most important service that pre-expander (EM series) provide would be density control.
      1. Raw material (beads) contains foaming agent that helps expand those beads.
      2. It is necessary for those beads to be cooling down and let air comes in to prevent shrink.
      3. Without proper pressure/temperature control, those beads will foam differently, which leads to large density variety.
      4. Large density variety of beads will make each products weights different, and cost differently.
      5. Different density will effect the impact resistance.
      But after all, you know the raw material sellers do sell the expended beads, that you will not need to expended yourself, just the matter of cost and quality. Especially when you expended it into very low density (make it very light weight)

      I know that when they put them in a pressurized steam mold, they expand again within the mold, but I have no idea why they need to be pre-expanded, rather than just putting the granules in the mold where they'll expand anyway..
