Amazing to hear this again 45 years later! A few parts differ from what I remember. For example, I remember Herod saying, "You're a joke you're not the lord, you're nothing but a Ford! Oh, drive him away he's got nothing to say..." I'm guessing the production may have evolved some after this recording. Also, I don't think I've ever seen a staging of JCS with Then We Are Decided included, but it's in this soundtrack.
senza togliere nulla agli altri artisti, ma Yvonne Elliman è superlativa without taking anything away from the other artists, but Yvonne Elliman is superlative
I attended one of the showings in Santa Barbara in 1976, which I am not sure, I believe it was at the Santa Barbara bowl, but not sure. I was 15. We'd gotten free tickets from one of the kings who was a friend of the family. I remember being in the front row with a classmate, with our feet up on stone lined planter below the stage. We were the only ones in that row. I don't remember there being many people there, quite empty of people frankly, it makes me wonder if it was a dress rehearsal? I remember it being daytime. My mom who was a pusher of the theater when I was a kid, we had season tickets to the big LA theaters, has passed. So can't ask her. Would love to know which performance that was, and if it was at the bowl? Or at another Santa Barbara venue? I was delighted to find this live recording of the music, and a link to its origin on another website with more info. We had the album, I loved it and the play. Epic play. Thanks for posting this.
I saw it, too, fall '76. I was only eight or nine. It was an outdoor amphitheater in Santa Barbara, definitely at night.(Maybe it was a rehearsal you saw?) It was crowded. I remember overhearing remarks by other audience members after the play ended and everyone was leaving. "In the movie, you see him [Jesus] walking off with lambs," said an elderly lady. We were from L.A./Pasadena and drove up to Santa Barbara for the weekend just to see it. We already knew Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson were going to be in it--and when we arrived we found out Yvonne Elimann would be in it, too! Still have my program. Years later I noticed that some children in the cast went on to be well-known, including Eric Stoltz.
@@FreedomforHaiti I think it was a dress rehearsal. It was during the day. We got tickets from a graduate of Camarillo High School, California, who played one of the Kings, his name, Glover. What a powerful experience for a fifteen year old. Still light up when I hear the music. This was 76, original cast.
@@personaldiscoverychannel I just got out my old program, and it mentions a Mark Glover as "third priest."His credits to that point included Godspell, Wizard of Oz, and Once Upon a Mattress. He had been a guest lecturer in Oral Interpretation at UCLA and Pepperdine and was a 1976 winner of the National Speech Tournament in Chicago. He was starting to appear in movies.
The bass pllaying this is absolutely top drawer aspecially on "Heaven On Their Minds" it's sadly a bit far down in the mix but what I can pick out is gobsmacking. I don't suppose their is a list of musicians. I think Alan Spenner was on the album, not sure about live though.
Jesus Christ Superstar is a masterpiece as a concept album of great songs. The musical interpretation of the Messiah's final days leading to his crucifixion is nothing short of brilliant and more so with the album set in the genre of rock. Its success played out in theater performances and movie version. The original lead casts was superb. Ted Neely was perfect playing Jesus Christ in theater as well as on screen. Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice are maestros of music making.
Amazing recording! How did you find this gem? I had the opportunity to tour with Ted and Carl on JCSS playing drums. They are the best Jesus and Judas!
I feel like this is the closest I've found to the one I grew up on as a child. I don't know. Spotify has disgusting remastered ones that just destroyed the bass and boom of every track so, it's been hard to find them. And I was pretty sure, the Judas in our version was black. Nothing against Murray Head, he's great, but this guy has the right boom to his voice.
Was it the actual play, or did they come out and sing it in order without the play with it? Oh, ok, you have slides from it so it was the full show. How awesome.
Who played Pilate in this production? It either was or is a wonderful soundalike to Barry Dennen, who like Yvonne Elliman, was on the album, the movie and the initial stage presentations. Great job if it wasn't he.
Too bad the mix is off, music is too loud, oh well it was recorded live in Santa Barbera North of LA for those well travelled California lovers, which I am! I was there!
Most audience or other bootlegs from the '70s are pretty dreadful but in some cases they're the only record we have, like the audience recordings of Laura Nyro's 1971 tour. The quality of this one given the circumstances is pretty amazing.

Love the audio but kinda wish it had been videoed as well. Saw the non-equity tour many times, loved it every time!
Thank you
happy birthday Superstar
Oh my god, I Don't Know How To Love Him is absolutely devastating
Спасибо!!!
Wow!
Awesome!
good god, neely and anderson pure FIRE!!!
The bass pllaying this is absolutely top drawer aspecially on "Heaven On Their Minds" it's sadly a bit far down in the mix but what I can pick out is gobsmacking. I don't suppose their is a list of musicians. I think Alan Spenner was on the album, not sure about live though.
Awesome performance.
Que recuerdos
Amazing
ICONIC 😇
Amazing recording! How did you find this gem? I had the opportunity to tour with Ted and Carl on JCSS playing drums. They are the best Jesus and Judas!
That’s awesome, what a once in a life time opportunity! I wrote out the story in the description of the video.
Awesome! I will read it now. Thanks for sharing this performance.
I migliori sì !!!! Capolavoro ❤
You probably had this version: ruclips.net/video/pqoeM18vCaU/видео.html
for everyone to understand❤🔥💜💙
Excelente 🥃🎩

Love it. Love it. Love it. Just wondering, why did they have it performed in such a fast pace?
Was it the actual play, or did they come out and sing it in order without the play with it? Oh, ok, you have slides from it so it was the full show. How awesome.
How thrilling to have this! Who were the Pilate and Herod in this production?
Who played Pilate in this production? It either was or is a wonderful soundalike to Barry Dennen, who like Yvonne Elliman, was on the album, the movie and the initial stage presentations. Great job if it wasn't he.
Someone named Martin Speer.
Par Excellence!
Did the conductor have a late date? Were the pubs closing? This whole show is so FAST!
This is 👍. Could you send it to me to download please, if possible. Thanks 😊
There are several websites and programs that allow you to download RUclips videos.
@@gabemcguire2871 OK thanks 😊
That screamiguitar ohyeah.
Too bad the mix is off, music is too loud, oh well it was recorded live in Santa Barbera North of LA for those well travelled California lovers, which I am! I was there!
I think we’re very lucky to have this kind of quality from a live tape from 1976
Most audience or other bootlegs from the '70s are pretty dreadful but in some cases they're the only record we have, like the audience recordings of Laura Nyro's 1971 tour. The quality of this one given the circumstances is pretty amazing.
