    I was at the dealer two days ago for a transmission oil change and they also recommended me change the break fluid cost $315.00, then while I was waiting they came telling me that the cabin air filter needs changing and cleaning out. A rodents nest. $60.00 for the OEM filter, and $180.00 for cleaning. I said no. Went home, picked up a filter for $27.00 and watched a video of how to remove/clean out the blower. It took me less than an hour to take out the blower, clean the compartment and replace the filter. I want to thank the folks like you who make these videos where we are encouraged to do some of the easy work ourselves. Thank you!

    My problem was that the glove box damper had become disconnected and rattled. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to reattach it, or for that matter, where to reattach it. Now, in addition to knowing how to change my cabin air filter, I also know how to repair my glove box damper. Many thanks!

      Thanks for the watch and comment. Glad you found it helpful. I don't know what country you're in, but in the U.S. you are not required to have your maintenance performed at a dealership in order to maintain your warranty. If an issue came up, you simply need to show that you had performed the recommended maintenance.

    I took in my new 2020 honda accord with 12700miles in for a fuel tank recall. They wanted to do both the engine and cabin filters for $185. What a rip and I'm suspicious they even need it. I'll buy both and check them out by inspection and swap if needed.
    My 2001 Honda accord EX was horrible to replace the cabin filter, I'm happy the 2020 is super easy

    • @TheLemonFactor
      @TheLemonFactor  2 года назад

      That’s crazy, and just wrong 😠. The engine air filter change is super easy. The cabin filter just a little more complicated, but once you done it, it’s easier the next time. 👍

    VERY IMPORTANT**** I did what many people have done and "broke" the dampening bar in the process of opening the compartment. My bar was difficult to get off and I apparently pushed down on the bar too hard. The dampening bar is contained within a plastic sheath at the top of the (flat) bar that is hinged within the plastic sheath. When I pushed down, the top of the bar rotated down and out of the sheath. Fortunately, I removed the side panel and loosened the glove box and I could see the top of the bar where it had rotated out of the sheath. I gently rotated the (flat) bar back into the sheath and put everything back together. In my case, nothing was broken but if I had torn at it too much more it would have broken. Of course, Honda could have made this more sturdy but then they would not have made money off the repairs or the replacement of the filter. It looks like this dampening mechanism is held in place by a white "Nut Bolt" that can be removed inside of the glove compartment. It may also be possible to rotate that bar back in place from inside the compartment when it is in the full down position. Not sure.

    • @ApexPowerSportsllc
      @ApexPowerSportsllc 3 года назад +1

      Just adding to this. When pushing on the bar close the glove box a tad to get the tension off of it. Also do this when re installing

  • @yordys02
    @yordys02 8 месяцев назад +1

    How did you get it to soft open? My glove compartment just drops straight down now

    • @TheLemonFactor
      @TheLemonFactor  8 месяцев назад

      There’s a plastic arm on the outer right side of the glovebox that “catches” it from simply flopping open.

    • @yordys02
      @yordys02 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheLemonFactor I went to place that checked my cabin air filter and since then it doesn’t soft open anymore. I see the plastic arm but it doesn’t do anything anymore

    • @TheLemonFactor
      @TheLemonFactor  7 месяцев назад

      @yordys02 sounds like it’s either broken or the plastic arm simply isn’t latched in place.

    My problem involves the initial removal of the plastic drop down limit arm (right side of glove box). I have trouble removing this arm to access the filter as it is a tight fit to grab on to and at age 74 I don't have the finger strength. I also do not want to try using a pair of pliers as I might brake the plastic. Any tips on disconnecting this arm? I tried using a pair of thin plastic gloves to get a better grip on it but still can't get it to release. I have a 2018 Accord and have not changed this filter as yet (17,000 miles on it) and need to. Thanks for any information you can give me.

    • @TheLemonFactor
      @TheLemonFactor  4 года назад +2

      You're correct in being cautious, considering it is plastic I can see this inadvertently breaking with too much force. I would recommend that you don't open the glove box all the way, but rather 90% so that there is no force from gravity applying pressure to the plastic piece, then somewhat sharply tap the plastic piece applying force parallel to the ground and towards the front of the car, given that it is a hook.

    • @TheGman2421

      @@TheLemonFactor First if all, thanks so much for the reply, I really appreciate it. I'll try as you have suggested. If I can't get it to work, I won't risk breaking it. I'll have the Dealer make the first change so he can loosen up the holding arm, then the next time it should be easier for me to complete the job myself. I had this same problem with my "08" Accord which had a similar "holding arm". Secondly, your video on changing the engine air filter (2018 Accord, 2.0) was great and I was able to make the change out today. I'm sure that I would have had a problem with those 2 back plastic holding pins if you hadn't discussed them so thanks again and keep up the good work.

    • @TheLemonFactor
      @TheLemonFactor  4 года назад +1

      Don't mention it. I hope it works out. The holding arm won't easily slide out, you have to "pop" it out, so it does take a bit of quickly applied pressure. I hope you're able to get it taken care of. I'm glad you found the video of the engine air filter helpful. What other videos would you be interested in seeing?

    • @TheGman2421
      @TheGman2421 4 года назад

      @@TheLemonFactor If you heard a big Yahoo! from the direction of Illinois, it was me. I was able to disconnect that side drop-down hold lever, without breaking it. The photo angle showing the drop down lever and the attaching "hook" was what cinched it for me. As the hook faces "up" all I had to do was press down at the very end and this disconnected the hook with a distinct "click" (I was holding the door only partially open). I knew then that I had it released. The rest of the replacement was pretty easy and similar to my "08" Accord. Oh, and the filter I replaced was really bad. It's amazing how pine needles can work their way into your cabin filter. Thanks again, I couldn't have done it without you.

So the service technician couldn’t even change the filter correctly. Shows a lot about the dealership...if you can’t trust them with the small stuff how can you trust them with the big stuff.
    Total rip off and now I have to return to the dealership and waste more time. Be smart and do your own!
