- Honda Civic Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter Replacement and Maintenance Minder Reset (2016-2020). In this video I show how to replace an Engine Air Filter (also called an Air Cleaner Element) on a Honda Civic. I also show how to replace the Cabin Air Filter on these 10th generation Civics. I will also show how to reset the Maintenance Minder for both of these air filters. The exact vehicle in this video is a 2017 Honda Civic EX 2.0L Sedan. 2016-2020 Civic should be similar but may not be exactly like the vehicle shown.

Any links to the Denso engine filter? Can’t find it online in Canada
Really helpful video! Thanks, and wish all DIY help videos were this clear and to the point.
I love how you work: systematic, methodical and logical.
Thanks 👍!
Glad o see all is well. Remember the days when you just popped the air cleaner cover changed filter and you were good to go. Those were the days you didn't need electronic reminders to tell you to change a filter. You just knew your car and what needed to be done and you did it. Anyway Dave stay cool and well Artie. 😄😄😄
Thanks for the comment Artie!
Awesome! So easy! Saved me lots of $$$ the shop wanted to charge!! Thank you!!
👍
Very clear instructions. Thank you I will be doing this myself as Honda charges a fortune.
Thank you for helping an independent senior...Bless you!
No problem, thanks for the comment 👍!

Thank you so much this is really helpful ❤️
Saved me $80, thanks.
👍
Amazon has both air filters for about $13 each, rounded up roughly to $30, after taxes. Then about 15 minutes of DIY work and done. I had a dealership quote me almost $500 to replace both.
Thats insane!!!
That’s highway robbery lol
I brought my car in for a tsb but they lured me in and tried to charge me almost 200 bucks for filters... I do my own work usually but figured the parts were covered. They then told me they didn't have the part even though i told them specifically why I was going there and then wanted to charge 411 dollars for the tsb. I ordered the parts i needed for 20 bucks and got my own filters online for 25 bucks. Dealers are scum
Thank you for teaching me!
Thanks so much for this video,, makes a girls job easier,, ty have a beautiful day,

Thank you so much! Dealer wanted $219. to replace both filters😢
Those Autels are nice 👌
I have been happy with it so far!
I've been using Wix cabin and engine air filters on a 2006 Civic and 2010 Odyssey for a few years. No issues so far. I always get them at Rock Auto.
I like Wix too, they make OEM filters for Honda too.
This just helped me
Glad it was helpful, thank you for the comment!
Wow thanks for this video i ddnt know there's a filter inside that glovebox
No problem 👍!
Great video.
Thank you!
Thank you so much

Hey, I just did this service on a customer's 2014 Odyssey and used my MS906BT to reset item #2. It asked me if the mileage was correct (it said 00000,) I said no, entered the correct mileage and reset it. However, when I went back in to look it didn't enter the correct mileage. In fact, it didn't change the mileage number at all for item 2. On my own 08 Odyssey when I reset and enter the mileage it saves the correct mileage. Have you seen this issue with the Autel scan tools and the later model Hondas?
Not personally but I have heard of it happening, thanks for the input!
Am I able to wash the cabin air filter and reuse it? Or do I need to fully replace it when it’s dirty? Thanks for the informative video!
Most of these filters are one time use, they should be replaced.
This is the easiest DIY maintenance you can do for your Civic. The dealership charges over $200 to replace both filters for a total of 15 minutes of labor. (They might also try to up-sell you a cabin air filter flush for $200. That’s a waste of money). If you do it, the total cost should be no more than $60 (including tax and shipping) for the OEM filters in the same amount of time.
NOTE: With the 1.5 liter models, you’ll need an 8mm JIS socket screwdriver to remove the engine air filter cover. You could use a Philips-head screwdriver but that might strip the hex nuts (that resemble screws).
can you reset sub 2 maintenance code at the main display?
I don't believe it will let you do sub items at the display.
Man! Wish I saw this before doing the cabin filter on my civic. Didn't know the glove box can come off. I did it without pulling down the glove box.
👍
Lmaooo I was about to do the same. Then I told myself “there’s gotta be an easier way” thank God for RUclips lol
How do you reset the minder thru the dashboard panel?
For the Civic in this video:
1.Turn ignition ON (not running).
2.If system message(s) are displayed, press the INFORMATION switch or Audio Remote/Multi-Information Display Switch to cancel the display until the "Maintenance Minder" icon is displayed, then press the Source/Enter button.
3.Display shows the remaining engine oil life, and then press and hold the Source/Enter button for 10 seconds or more. The "Maintenance Reset" mode appears on the multi-information display.
4.If you reset all the maintenance items shown on the display "A23 (for example)", select "All Due Items" by pressing the Audio Remote/Multi-Information Display Switch and press the Source/Enter button. If you reset each maintenance item individually, select an item you wish to reset by pressing the Audio Remote/Multi-Information Display Switch and press the Source/Enter button.
5.The maintenance item code(s) will disappear, and the engine oil life will reset to "100 %."
Gosh, I really wish Honda would replace that plastic hood latch release lever with a metal one. The plastic ones always seem to break over time. Other than that, good video.
HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE 2020 CIVIC EX 4 SCREW AIR FILTER NO TOOL I GOT REMOVES THEM
I always reset from the touchscreen interface of the car...what's the benefit of using an external tablet and the OBD scanner?
On many Hondas you can reset individual maintenance items when using a scan tool. When using the vehicle itself, it will sometimes reset multiple or all maintenance items.
Thanks but what if I don't want the ending tool ? Can I just change the filters and not worry about anything bad happening?
It will be fine, maintenance minder just won't have the correct timing as far as telling you when to change them next.
@@BigDog50001 Ah, I see. Thank you!
I also had an issue with the engine air filter housing getting stuck despite unclipping the snaps. I tried gently shimmying it and pulling it toward me, but it was still stuck. I finally got it open by exerting enough force that I was legitimately concerned I would break it. Thankfully it's still in once piece.
I have the same problem and I still can not get the cover off. Should I pull hader toward me or push up harder.Thanks.
@@christinemao9986 Pulling upwards worked for me. I hope that does the trick!
@@jeemkennedy Thanks, I will try again.
@@jeemkennedy I'm so happy I make it. Thanks again for the tips
ARE THERE ANY LINKS ANYONE HAS TO CHANGE AIR FILTER ON 2020 CIVIC EX MODEL UNDER HOOD I TRIED EVERY TOOL I HAVE AND SCREWS DO NOT MOVE PLEASE
Most of those new Civics either have clips or bolts (usually a 10mm socket can get them) that hold them in place.
Please show us how to properly get a 10th gen civic lifted onto four jack stands using a floor jack.
It definitely takes a bit of effort, I will see if I can record one. Thanks for the input!
Wow crazy how dealerships charge hundreds of dollars for these
Wanted to charge $80 dollars for a basic replacement
