There I sat hugging my knees from side stage, shielding myself from the cold bite of the air, listening intently to Tyler's voice. There was a slight rasp intertwined within his singing words that gave sound to a comforting sense of rawness. He was tired. Dishearteningly, the gig had been cancelled due to storms in the area. Naturally, the guys had ben upset and felt that they had somehow let down fans looking forward to the show. Tyler took to joining his ukulele alone on stage where he could play and listen to the rain, knowing not that he was joined by someone else. I stayed hunkered down from behind the corner so as not to disturb the boy. He somehow played still with just as much conviction to mere droplets of water sprinkling down as he would in front of a crowd of devoted fans. I could taste the brink of a brittle chill that pierced the air, and it made me miss the warmth of home. Out of habit, I placed the pad of my thumb between my teeth and stared off blankly, enveloped in the friendly lonesomeness of Tyler's singing. It wasn't long before Josh had come searching, eventually spotting and joining me from side stage. "Hey," he said, crossing his legs on the floor beside me. His voice was low and reverent to my quiet moment, somehow aware of Tyler's unawareness of his company. Hey," I breathed, looking up. "I figured you'd come find me. He doesn't know I've been listening. I kind of like to watch him sing when he's playing just for himself." "You're not the first," he smiled. "It's... different, but somehow the same. As if performing for fans, I mean. There's just as much to it as that 17 year old doodling lyrics in his basement before all this," I mused. Glancing at his ukulele, a bright idea hits him and he grins, grabbing the small instrument and opening the door to outside. Sitting on the steps, he tunes his uke for bit, then starts playing his song. He's getting wet, and the thunder sounds, but he doesn't care, he just wants to sing. People pass by, some stop to watch and soon he has a little audience of people smiling in the what was once awful rain and enjoying his little song.
"With our fingers dancing around eachother, we looked out over the open city as the rain hit the open window. My hand was cold as the night, but i don't think he mind. He just grabbed my finger tips and placed them to his chest, with his hand resting over mine. As i looked into his eyes, he just gave me a peaceful smile and closed his eyes, breathing in the cold air. I didn't want to move. I didn't even want to say anything. All i wanted was to sit there through out the night. Live in the moment. Despite the cold wind that gave me goosebumps everytime it hit my skin, i felt warm. I closed my eyes and pulled my head backwards, raising my chin towards the sky. If this was a dream, i would never want to wake up. But.. it wasn't. This was real. Everything i felt, was real. I am glad that i met him, for i'd never be in this moment without him. Whatever struggles we've ever been through, and what problems we've had.. It was worth it. Being with him, is worth it." Just those casual Tuesday afternoons, where i listen to peaceful music and write whatever comes to my mind.
Imagine this: "Ugh, I hate rain!" "I will make you love it :)" You sit in a coffee shop with Tyler, your boyfriend, and it's pouring rain on your birthday so you can't drive anywhere. You say you don't like rain and Tyler believes he can convince you otherwise. He walks up to a raised platform in the shop and asks for everyone's undivided attention. They, including you, willingly hand it over. "This is for my lovely friend, [your name]" people are looking around confused because this wasn't a place to preform but soon forgot when Tyler strummed his ukulele. "Sometimes you gotta bleed to know....that you're alive and have a soul..." He hits the notes impeccably and you are on the verge of tears.
