@@milkman2808 We have different preferences I like singles, but I could watch doubles matches. But I prefer to play singles cause I don’t like the idea of relying on a partner. In singles, it’s only you. If you miss it’s on you
Absolutely! A high quality half-volley like this one requires a downward swing and making contact with the ball while the racket face is at a slightly closed/downward position. Most players tend to block half-volleys (no swing) or pop them up (face too vertical or open), usually both. Also, it is easier to pick it up low off the ground rather than catching it a foot or more off the ground because you are certain right where the ball will be. The bounce should be about where your feet are but not in front.
@@Yungdil Just give it a try and you will see what I mean. As you drive the racket down the racket head will mimic a pendulum. You want to catch the ball a the right angle (slightly closed) so that the ball clears the net at a low trajectory. The swing is necessary to give the ball some zip. The key to executing this is not to try it in front of the body, rather beside it. That will ensure a more closed racket face. With a little practice you'll be able to do this consistently. It won't always be perfect like we saw this guy do, but effective. In fact, you will want to hit all your half-volleys this way. You'll never do it the old way again. You can find Federer doing this on many youtube videos if you want to see it in action.
@@Yungdil First, a serve or overhead is an upward swing. This is the reverse. You are driving the racket down (before contact) because that is where the ball is. Second, the reason you want a closed face at contact is that the ball will bounce upward off the racket face. Think of the racket face as a mirror which reflects the ball in a way which corresponds to the angle of incidence. (remember geometry class?) So while the racket face is slightly down, the ball right after the bounce is moving more vertical. So in essence, the face of the racket should bisect the incident and reflect angles. Exactly what angle will dependent the bounce. It's your job to read the bounce, position yourself beside the bounce and time your swing. The racket does the rest and your opponent applauds the shot.
Awesome doubles. Love it. Just wish some of these kids would learn to play a good drop volley. Has gone completely missing from the game today. Could have ended a lot of these points much earlier. Great video!

0:23 seconds in and my jaw is already on the floor. What a crazy passing shot. crazy pace but it still dips so low after passing over the tape.

Out of this world good! Thanks for sharing this.
Two great defensive shots at 11:02-11:07.
That pick up by Smith (UCLA) at 7:28 was insane!
Fun fact: The guy playing with Smith is Maxime Cressy, who achieved a singles high ranking of world no. 31 last year.
As an Asian American the last point made me so proud that I went to White Castle high as shit and ate 27 sliders

Wonderfully athletic, intuitive, competitive tennis and almost completely devoid of lobs. Thank you.

Doubles is so much fun to play. Singles gets boring too easily
Just a query, as I’m in the uk. What is college tennis? Trying to understand the level they’re at.
Beautiful Tennis
Nothing is more fun than playing dubs imo.
Imo nothing is more fun than kicking everyone’s ass at singles.
honestly
College football and basketball fills stadiums. College tennis doesn't even get a small crowd. What happened?
Man, these guys are so good! I wish I could play half as good as them - forget the pro level.

Yo, I thought they were 4.0 rated, I didn't realize they are like 5.0.
Their serves doesnt seem to have much power or am i wrong?
Doubles the first serve is more important, so they lessen the pace to get it in more often.
I'm pretty sure that is second serve
Few college players have really good serves. The serve is probably the hardest shot to perfect.
They need a bit of time to get to the net by following the ball. Serving in dubs is different from serving in singles.
It always looks slower on video. I definitely wouldn't be able to return even their second serves.
I just wish i had a teammate like them i only get paired up with people who barely know how to hit the ball 🙄
Sick that the white and blue boys in the end both are 8 feet tall
Damn these guys are good!!
Is this d1 or d2 ?
진짜 ㅈㄴ잘한다.. 울나라 실업팀수준인데 ㄷㄷ

surprisingly the tall guy in red had no idea about double tactics, always send the ball to the one that has more reaction time.
