  • Just a quick video with a fly over the The Riviera Hotel in Bowleaze cove.
You can see some of the damage that was caused to the roof.
Apart from that, what a great location, look at those views :-)

We stayed at Bowleaze Cove Holiday Park last week. It was very nice. What are the plans for the derelict Riviera Hotel?

I work at BC holiday park 😀 I believe the hotel is currently refurbishing a lot of rooms.

😊😉. The caravan park is great. Quiet. Clean. Good facilities. Ah thanks for Riviera update.

@@livinginweymouth There is some good info on Wiki about the history of the hotel and a lovely old photo of the area before the fairground and other buildings were there.

In WW2 my Dad aged7 we're evacuated to Weymouth from Bermondsey. He told me having left Waterloo with hundreds of other young children he arrived later that day in Weymouth and ferried on buses too this Hotel, used in the War years as a Evacuee reception centre. They were accommodated overnight in bunks , given food, drink etc. The following day they were all lined up on the front lawn of the hotel, loads of elderly, couples smartly dressed picking out individual children or brother/ sisters , twins etc. My father were selected by a farm owning couple from Duntish near Sherborne. Where he spent his War Years growing up on a Dorset Farm, earning his pocket money milking cows, egg collecting and 'mucking out ' etc . He spent his summer weekend days on the beach at Weymouth with his farm 'parents'.
Sad too see the 'Rivera' Hotel in its current state, looking derilict ,overgrown , unused outdoor pool, lawns, weeds everywhere. A lovely Hotel that needs a new owner and a better future 😢😢😢😮😮
