Thank you. I almost cried when I got into my Mini and there was mold. I was medically unable to drive for a bit, and it was neglected. Here in Seattle it’s damp and yuck. Vinegar is the key. It leaves a anti-microbial layer to prevent further mold/mildew for a while, so I’m told by my PHD Pharm candidate daughter. Thank you. Great video! Hey!!! Your steering wheel is on the wrong side ;)
Here in Canada we have gallon jugs of cleaning vinegar , strong white vinegar for pickling, regular for salad dressings and baking etc and malt vinegar. Thankfully I haven't any problem here with my car, I only drive it once a week in winter. I had no idea something like this could happen.
Mold is probably deep in the heating and cooling ducts for the cabin too. First step before you start on the seats is to take the air-intake filters out (usually engine compartment up by windshield wipers), run the heater fan on hot and high speed with the car running for an hour and spray TWO cans of disinfectant (like Lysol in the USA) into the air intake. The disenfectant will come shooting out of all the vents, disenfecting them, and land on your seats which is fine in this case, but you will want to make sure it's non-bleach based first.
@@elcapitan6605 Educate yourself and work on your hygiene, it's obviously lacking. Do you also wear supposed clean shirts that were washed with dirty water, so they still smell like piss, but because you do this constantly you can no longer smell the piss smell? Hello Martin. I'm so glad to see that you are wearing a respirator, instead of a particle mask. A lot of people out there claim that a particle mask is a respirator. I know you know the difference, and I'm glad. I'm also glad you pointed out safety glasses. Nothing worse than getting some kind of cleaner in your eyes. Going to stock up on some vinegar and try to get this thing clean so I can start the restoration process. Thanks for this vid. It helps.
The results compared to what it was like before are amazing! We have one of those Vax-wet vacuums as well and have been thinking of giving my Mother’s car a good going over. Good job. I did this to my wife's car not too long ago. Don't forget to shoot some vinegar through the ventilation system and change your cabin air filter.
You could also use one of those air conditioning cleaners in a can. Press the nozzle and it locks on, put air con on recirculation then just leave it to empty and keep the car shut for about half an hour and it should kill any remaining spores.
Great job Martin, not the sort of job I’d like either, difficult I know but because the cars been standing for a while makes you wonder what’s lurking in the vents and any filters, you certainly don’t want a face full of that as soon as the blowers go on. 😷
This is a constant battle for me with my Ford F250. It's parked at our yard in Oregon most the time I'm on the road, I'm a CDL trucker. We haven't had as much freight volume as we used to routed through our yard. So I finally got in it today and had a fair bit of mold to deal with. It's not as bad in the summers, but during our rainy season in autumn/winter/spring it tends to flare up. I need to just get me some of them bag things you can put in the vehicle. Forget what they're called, but just looks like a cloth sack with some sort of mineral mixture inside, and it absorbs moisture. Once it's "full" you can just put it in an oven to cook/evaporate the moisture out of it. Great advice mate! Just few things to add. I gathered some info around the net. 1. How to stop vauxhall from excess humidity? I tried everything. Had 3 of them and all seems to have the same problem. Even with full heat during driving all windows becoming so foggy it's almost impossible to drive. I heard duct tape over the gap where you take out the pollen filter. Obviously you need a good clean of the surrounding area first. Apparently water gets in there. So I'll try this now. Also will change the pollen filter. 2. I seems to find massive amount of water under the spare wheel. That will be my first place to start to dry that up. And will be looking for holes, shouldn't be any TBH. Bear in mind my car just started to get small patches because I'm using it just not often enough. 3. And if you are not using your car for long periods cat litter can help a lot according to some. It's probably will cost a bit of a money, but if it's working and saves time I don't care. 4. On ebay you can find 20l of white vinegar for £18 or 10l for £15 that should be enough 😅

Hi Martin, great job but the car is letting in water somewhere to the interior too cause this mould which will re occur. Had this with a Focus and it was the seal around the pollen filter had perished. Being a Vauxhall I don't know but look into the leak that's coming in somewhere. All the best and love your videos.

I wonder what it looks like UNDER the seats. I would have pulled the seats out and cleaned the underside of them as they may be full of mold and mildew. It would also have made cleaning the carpet easier too. Other than that, I think this gentleman did an excellent job. Thank you for posting this video as I have some similar mold and mildew cleaning on one of my cars.
I use carpet extractor fluid, 5L , varies wildly in cost, about 7£ to £16, and dilutes 1:10 or 1:50. Cost per interior about or less than a £1. I wet in down first with Vulflora , about 25 pence diluted, then the carpet extractor fluid over, let them dwell 15 mins. Only used steamer one car this year, on dog saliva brown soil seats......... that was in Dec too I struggle with mould once got to black dots. Mask a solid idea. Turning bad interiors around easy and theraputic On the doors I use another type of Carpet Extractor fluid and use it to wet them out, I use an APC on the grubby bits 1:10 ish then rinse down more 1:50 carpet extractor, then wipe down microfibres. The Vulflora keeps the smell neutral for weeks , think it seeps into the base and foam in the sit. Only for budget cars sell under £2999 one off cleans
thank you so much for this video I really appreciate it because I have a little mold damage in my backseat and had no idea how to go about cleaning it. So just wanted to say thank you very much and I love your videos. :-)
Hi Martin I’d said in the last video about fabric softener 50/50 mix but just this week I’ve discovered dettol now do a tin spray called dettol all in one and it’s suitable for soft furnishings and obviously being dettol has the old (kills 99.9%) on the tin bud👍🏼 and more to the point it’s only 3quid in Tesco’s 👍🏼👍🏼 and it’s grand I’ve done the car seats, settee, kids car seat and nothing has any doggy marks on it so it’s good stuff in my opinion and an antibacterial spray for £3 👌🏼
It will be water leaking down the windscreen and strait past pollen filter intake duct gasket where in seals on to bulkhead. Common on all gm cars.Whilst your in there, grease up wiper linkages and remove drain boots.
As a detailer I charge quite a pretty penny for jobs like these. Before I even take job like this I need to assess what the source of the moisture is, if there was pooled water in the seats or carpet and in most heavy mold jobs the seats and carpet need to be removed and cleaned a minimum of 2 times and throughly dried and inspected and any carpet sound deadening that was wet gets replaced. It can take multiple days to do these jobs. Another tip is to always replace the cabin air filter if the vehicle has one.
I personally would be around 1000-1200 depending on size if the customer wanted it to be back to the best condition it could be without replacing anything. Seems vary high until you figure removing all seats and possibly the carpet and removing the mold and sanitizing every surface and inspecting the vents and treating them if necessary and replacing the cabin filter. Looking at nearly 12+ hrs of labor. All of this depends on what the customer wants and expects, if they want it wiped down with vinegar and steamed I'll do that but I wouldn't make any promises to the results.
@@dustin3700 thanks man. I own a detailing business in Atlanta and a customer reached out to me about mold removal. I’ve seen it done before but never done it. I have no problem when tackling new things tho. Just wasn’t sure what to tell him for the price

My fiesta is heading this way during the ongoing corona lockdowns, under the kids seats is the worst. Turned into a complete mould garden.. I'm not certain if there is a water leak or it's just from 6 months worth on condensation from being parked in the shade and frost. Lot of water on the rear floor though. We are getting another car once we can go somewhere again so it's not a big concern other than the safety aspect if we need to drive it.
Thomas smith did you ever find out where the water on the floors came from? My sisters car has been parked (in the shade) for almost a year now and I noticed condensation in the windows, and found an inch of water on the floors. But no apparent leaks in windows or doors, trying to figure out the source of the water, and you’re the first person to mention a similar issue. Hope your car water/mold issues didn’t cause you too many headaches. Thanks for any info you might have✌️
@@Emiliapocalypse Nope I can't find the leak, I've looked at the door I expected to be leaking and I can't see any water coming in during heavy rain. But similar thing, about a inch of water in the rear footwell. Doesn't make much sense to me unless it's all condensation just building up slowly over time. Winter is pretty much over here now though so hopefully I don't have to think about this again for a while.
Had the same thing happen with an old Landy she sat for a while with broken back window cleaned it up with steam cleaner and fixed back window and it was fine i did put a few damp pots in her and ran her with heaters on for while. I have tried the vax to clean car before but they say it does a great job.
Only time I had mold is when I drove through a flooded road and water soaked under the carpets Luckily a very hot summer cured that Great clean up job though 😎
Thank you for such a helpful video, i might get a car this way and i want to be prepaid on what im getting into. It seems this may be the befter option then taking and swapping the whole engine with my broken down car 😅
Great video as usual Martin, I think you may have water ingress somewhere, make sure you dry it out well or it will be back, I have found that a de-humidifier works great in a car it’s surprising how much water they extract. All the best. Steve.
Not sure about cars but if you own a truck there pressure vents “aperture” for when doors slam shut. Two against the back of the cab. Well mine leaked and I guess it’s common but water saturated all under my carpet and I had horrible mold infestation and took me a while to figure out where the moisture was coming from.
Steam is sufficient. Damp seats when using a hot water extractor become damper accentuating the issue. Once mold is killed with steam blot dry with towel. Simple
Usually we would soak the cars and carpet in a high acid degreaser on the more heavily diluted side rather than your usual 8-1 10-1 we would go 5-1 (5 parts water 1 part degreaser) and it worked alright for killing it but not for getting rid of its must I will make sure to try vinegar next time!
i dont use my car very often due to health issues, also the heater broke so i guess it doesnt get warm enough to dry properly, ive never had mold in a car in my life but a week ago i left a damp cloth on the back seat and when i went to drive it saw this white stuff underneath where the cloth was and it had spread up the seatbelt and also when i pulled theseatbelt out it was on that bit too, didnt think it would happen that quick, made me feel sick, cleaned it all and aired the car out, hopefully it doesnt come back need to keep it extra dry 🤞
You guys in Europe have the coolest hatchbacks in the world in America the only one that I think is well designed in the Mazda 3... They don't even sell the VW Golf in the U.S. anymore!
If you put cat sand in couple of socks under the seats it will prevent windows from fogging up. Sucks the moisture well. There are also commercial products doing the same thing.
thanks for the video!!! getting ready to follow your example. im wondering if you leave your ac unit in the outside air setting if it’s the main cause for moisture getting in the car

@@Tofuwabofu sorry it’s been a while but yes it worked great but be prepared to be using air freshener for a couple of weeks after but after that you can’t smell anything and there has been no signs of mold anymore
Cracking job again Martin Blackpool autoshine will be So proud of you. That's, one of my other you tubers I like to watch. Take care budy say hi to Sharon for me.
Cheers bud
You definitely need G101cleaner it's a really good multipurpose cleaner for these jobs you can mix it with water
I found this video via Google, went to subscribe and found I was already subscribed 😁
Was impressed with the vax had really good spray pressure and the steamer was impressive too. I bought a small hand held one like a kettle with a hose but feel a bit inadequate now after seeing yours🙄,
When I saw the title I wondered what car it would be. It's a vectra like mine
Just the kind of information I need to get started on the massive clean up of my G35.
Big thank you!!!
is it from the drain tubes in the sunroof? Lol just picked up an Altima with smells of mold or mildew can’t tell but gotta do this over the weekend😭 leaving the windows down for now while I’m at work to air out
You had some in your seats as well? Or just the carpet?
Hi Martin, great job but the car is letting in water somewhere to the interior too cause this mould which will re occur. Had this with a Focus and it was the seal around the pollen filter had perished. Being a Vauxhall I don't know but look into the leak that's coming in somewhere. All the best and love your videos.
Iys a common thing on these Vauxhalls, We had it with Sharon's Vectra and I sorted that in a video.
wow watching this again as my astra has same problem.but thanks to you martin this will be a doddle
Cracking job Martin nice spray of Frabreze will get the upholstery smelling nice if not you will have Sharron wanting fish and chips next time she gets in the car lol cheers mate Rob
Top job Martin nice clean and hygienic again amazing how much muck builds up over the years keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍👍
I wonder what it looks like UNDER the seats.
I checked under the seats, it was clean bud.
@@retrorestore Great! Thanks for sharing your cleaning tips. I will use them when cleaning the mold and mildew in my car. Cheers!
I don’t know you…but I love you for this!!! And all the extra advice in these comments. Truly helped and and saved me 💰 thank you!!! 🙏🏽 ❤😊
You are so welcome!
So we can add valeting to your CV Martin 😉very impressed pal lovely job 👌
Cheers bud Too much like hard work lol
I use carpet extractor fluid, 5L , varies wildly in cost, about 7£ to £16, and dilutes 1:10 or 1:50. Cost per interior about or less than a £1.
I wet in down first with Vulflora , about 25 pence diluted, then the carpet extractor fluid over, let them dwell 15 mins. Only used steamer one car this year, on dog saliva brown soil seats......... that was in Dec too
I struggle with mould once got to black dots. Mask a solid idea. Turning bad interiors around easy and theraputic
On the doors I use another type of Carpet Extractor fluid and use it to wet them out, I use an APC on the grubby bits 1:10 ish then rinse down more 1:50 carpet extractor, then wipe down microfibres.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video mate. Can i ask, What steam cleaner is that? Looks good lots of high pressure steam
Hi Martin
I’d said in the last video about fabric softener 50/50 mix but just this week I’ve discovered dettol now do a tin spray called dettol all in one and it’s suitable for soft furnishings and obviously being dettol has the old (kills 99.9%) on the tin bud👍🏼 and more to the point it’s only 3quid in Tesco’s 👍🏼👍🏼 and it’s grand I’ve done the car seats, settee, kids car seat and nothing has any doggy marks on it so it’s good stuff in my opinion and an antibacterial spray for £3 👌🏼
It will be water leaking down the windscreen and strait past pollen filter intake duct gasket where in seals on to bulkhead.
Good tips. The mold didn't return in this vehicle so we are happy with the results. Good tip about the cabin filter too.
How much do u charge?
@@chase1bandz one of the biggest factors on rate are your area where you operate within 15 miles and how saturated the market is with other detailers. I'm in Minnesota and the closest shops to me are over 45 minutes away so I'm lucky at the moment.
Your clearly getting water inside the car somewhere, my E39 BMW has been sitting for 2 years zero mould
04 G35 sitting for 3 years, looks and smells as clean at it did the day I parked it
My fiesta is heading this way during the ongoing corona lockdowns, under the kids seats is the worst.
My right break light needs a new seal and I left it for 3-6 months and it’s really bad
You are multi-talented. job well done mate. I’m happy with that 😎
Cheers bud
Thank you so much! Greetings from Italy
Thanks, good really good video! I need to get some mold out of the old toyota standing around. Gotta do without the fancy tools somehow though.
My car is so moldy rn. It's been sitting in my car port for 6 months. I wanna barf. Thanks for the video!
Wow!!! Excellent work!!!
What a job. Well done. You cleaned it well mate. Take care
Great job!! Result was stunning!!
Thank you! 😊
Martin you done a great job on those seats the steam cleaner you are using are brilliant I use mine in kitchen from time to time.👍
Had the same thing happen with an old Landy she sat for a while with broken back window cleaned it up with steam cleaner and fixed back window and it was fine i did put a few damp pots in her and ran her with heaters on for while. I have tried the vax to clean car before but they say it does a great job.
yes Ali, I've got a dehumidifier coming today to dry it out too.
Thanks for sharing this information brother.. in this monsoon my car 🚗 is covered in fungus, locked in for 15days probably..
Ill have to tackle this soon with my project car.
Only time I had mold is when I drove through a flooded road
and water soaked under the carpets Luckily a very hot summer cured that
Great clean up job though 😎
Thank you for such a helpful video, i might get a car this way and i want to be prepaid on what im getting into. It seems this may be the befter option then taking and swapping the whole engine with my broken down car 😅
Don't forget as soon as you turn on the fan it could have spores of bacteria blowing out.
Fungus, yes. Bacteria doesn't form spores.
Great video as usual Martin, I think you may have water ingress somewhere, make sure you dry it out well or it will be back, I have found that a de-humidifier works great in a car it’s surprising how much water they extract. All the best. Steve.
Yes Steve, i'm on the look out for one.
I would have bought malt vinegar, not knowing the difference! All good now Martin. Pollen filter aswell might be good to swap out.
Yes I'm going to change that as well
thats why if a car hasnt run at least once a month it will take standing damage
Steam is sufficient. Damp seats when using a hot water extractor become damper accentuating the issue. Once mold is killed with steam blot dry with towel. Simple
Great video Martin. Those vax are the business and well worth the money as the results show. Car is looking good now Martin.
Cheers, Jeff.
Yes Jeff, it would be impossible without one.
Great video Martin keep up the amazing content
Usually we would soak the cars and carpet in a high acid degreaser on the more heavily diluted side rather than your usual 8-1 10-1 we would go 5-1 (5 parts water 1 part degreaser) and it worked alright for killing it but not for getting rid of its must I will make sure to try vinegar next time!
Goggles too bro 👍 cover ears to protect that too. Thank you for this training
another great vid martin, i agree with ya to much of a faf on these days to remove a seat from a car
That damned Kid Juice gets everywhere!!!
Nice work, Martin👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers bud.
i dont use my car very often due to health issues, also the heater broke so i guess it doesnt get warm enough to dry properly, ive never had mold in a car in my life but a week ago i left a damp cloth on the back seat and when i went to drive it saw this white stuff underneath where the cloth was and it had spread up the seatbelt and also when i pulled theseatbelt out it was on that bit too, didnt think it would happen that quick, made me feel sick, cleaned it all and aired the car out, hopefully it doesnt come back need to keep it extra dry 🤞
Hi, I got water leaking into my car when it rains and it has led to mold growth. I will take it in when I can but thanks for the video!
Polycell Mold Killer spray is odourless and non bleach so safe to use on all interior materials
Oh what was the steamer. Thanks loads. Looks ok for a budget ish model.
looking a lot better great job Martin
You guys in Europe have the coolest hatchbacks in the world in America the only one that I think is well designed in the Mazda 3... They don't even sell the VW Golf in the U.S. anymore!
If you put cat sand in couple of socks under the seats it will prevent windows from fogging up. Sucks the moisture well. There are also commercial products doing the same thing.
Great video thanks mate. You helped me decide to get a pro to do it as I have no steam cleaner etc
thanks for the video!!! getting ready to follow your example. im wondering if you leave your ac unit in the outside air setting if it’s the main cause for moisture getting in the car
3 months? Wow I am working on a car that's been Parked for Years and it's 10xs better than 3 months of that parked vehicle 🤦🏼♂️
Thanks for sharing. getting my Vinegar ready 🤗
just became a new SUB , love the EURO style Auto culture! greetings from new york
Thanks for the sub!
I could really do with using that vax machine on my car upholstery...it looks wicked...a job well done I’d say 👍🏼
Seems like a great machine. Can you post what kind. I need new machine..Great video
will try the non-diluted way with white vinagre my car got some mold and idk how it got in every window/door was shut proper, if somebody knows what could have happen so i can be more careful next time i really appreciate thanks for the vid 👌
