i liked how you dropped the piece and didn't miss a beat and just kept sanding. good stuff. Not sure if I'm a fan of the "ghost chrome". it looked really nice all black.
Hey, thanks. This gun is a Waicom spray gun with a 1.2mm spray nozzle. I use it for base and clear. I use it because it was given to me as a gift. Any spray gun will give a good finish the more expensive guns last alot longer.
When painting plastic, always scuff and apply plastic primer first. You can go straight to colour after that or for a smoother finish apply the hifill primer.
@customspraymods Thank you so much. I was in VG yesterday buying myself a spray gun and other necessities and mentioned that i went there because of your videos.
@coletsmith1 Yes the hiffill primer will fill in the rough plastic and make it smooth. As long as you give it a good sand it will end up like glass. This paint was 2k auto paint.
Give it a go, if your gun is setup correctly and mixtures are right then you should get a good finish. You may need to sand and buff to get a nice gloss finish though.
***** hey mate, yes you can get the same result using spray cans. There is a 2K clear in a can or the Upol 1K clear in a can is also super glossy. Cheers
Use 600g or 800g wet to scuff the plastics but the grey scuffing pad is ideal. The paste is called scuff stuff or prepping paste or matting paste. There are a few different names for it.
Nice video but my motorbike has inner plastic panels in black and there not shiny they had that black front bumper rough touch and I want to spray it and make it glossy like you have done there so will I have to spray on filler primer and then sand it down so it's flat and all level so when I spray glossy black and then clear coat I will see y self in the panel ? Thanks
@supersanchez1991 ha, thanks but no have not had any formal training. just learned from asking questions. I've been lucky enough to have experienced painters around to get advice rather then internet forums.
Really well done, I want to pain the caps in my bay (like the oil cap power steering fluid....etc) so they are not yellow, this jvideo ust made me realllly want to do it . Thanks
I have a question which i get different answers every time. After you lay your color (base coat) do you sand it back before applying the clear with acrylic ?
On plastic car bumpers, are you suppose to sand down the paint as well and then start the steps from this video? I know there's a video on this but it doesn't talk about already painted parts.
Mate ive seen a few of your videos and they're great just a question I have a dune buggy and was gona spray it black gloss but hav'nt ever done it before (only done cans) and I tryed to do a side pannel with cans and evan on a warm day it just not a good finish was going to buy a beginner spraygun off ebay for £30 with a priming and spraying nosel kit but do you think I could do it my dads a mechanic and knows people in that paint trade so paint and thinners isnt hard to thanks Paul, Ireland
Hey thanks for the quick reply! Is 2k the only kind that I won't have to sand the clear to get a good finish? And how much paint do you think ill need to paint a scooter? There's not really that much surface area but I've never painted before so I have no idea. Thanks!
I want to paint my engine cover on my 08 Silverado like that, but the previous owner painted it and it looks bad. Do I have to sand the paint all off to the plastic. Like start all over?
@MEERKATmichael Hello, I have asked 3 different professional spray painters this also I asked the paint manufacturer. And no you dont have to sand between coats or before clear. Just wait 10 min then clear it. :)
Great video/channel mate, couple of questions as I have started this project based on your vid: between primer and high fill primer do you have to wait 24 hours or are we talking touch dry? Why do you not use HTP? Thanks!! :)
FYI, in his earlier videos he mentioned MCM inspired him to start creating vids. If you notice in MCM... he's the paint guy from VG they always go to. Silly goose.
I saw the first spray you put on the cover dried very quickly. Is there an advantage to painting in the sun or should it be avoided? Pros and Cons to it?
Always use plastic primer on plastic, it won't stick properly without it. When using clear coat, go in one direction and don't just spray all over, and be somewhat generous with each coat. Overspray will cause the clear coat to not shine and instead be rough.
@JAKtheMAKK I know I need to buy a proper mic im using my phone to record then sending to the computer. If I raise the volume in editing it gets all distorted. Im goin to buy one now..
customspraymods why do you put plastic primer on then the hi fill primer? Do you need to do this? Is that plastic primer clear? Is that primer used so the hi fill primer will stick?
RedRashBallz I ended up using scratchwizards paint and clear Ford j7 color to match the car paint I have a video to show I only post pics no voice with text info you can see what I went thru the good n bad
Good old custom spray mods! Returned to the channel after watching this 11 years ago

what are your thoughts on high heat paint for these parts?
@customspraymods Thank you so much. I was in VG yesterday buying myself a spray gun and other necessities and mentioned that i went there because of your videos.
Hey mate, Yeah the primer and paint can withstand up to about 300 to 400 degrees Celsius which can easily hold up around an engine.
Lovely. I like seeing old vids like this lad 👍
@coletsmith1 Yes the hiffill primer will fill in the rough plastic and make it smooth. As long as you give it a good sand it will end up like glass. This paint was 2k auto paint.
Loved the music. Felt like i was in "A Clockwork Orange" the whole video. Cheers Lad !
Now that looks awesome! almost lost faith when you painted that one car interior lol
@kypro Yep its heat proof. You could paint this stuff on the engine block and it would hold. I did it on Brake calipers and it still looks good.
Cheers
love the chrome paint you used. looks like stainless steel
This video isnt in real time. It was painted months before the first and last part were filmed.
Because I was only clearing over the Ghost chrome. The black was already cleared 6:10. The ghost chrome is applied over a gloss/cleared black surface.
I thought spray cans were gonna be used in this video, but i was too hooked to go off. Outcome looked great! That car = rich man's El Camino. lol

Max Abbas work shirt 2 years later Im still wearing it.
Hello, Yes using the filler primer is the best way to get it smooth. Otherwise use spray putty.
Bruno Oliveira There is heaps of coats but its only if you want the chrome effect. A simple colour would only require a primer and topcoat.
Yes but it is expensive. It is sold at some auto shops in California maybe they can ship it to you. I can find out where it is available if you like.
This is lit... I like how the black color turns out (y)
Is it me or does it look more like polished metal? It might be because of what I'm watching it on. I must say though that is a very smooth finish.
What were all of the paints you used in this? I'm trying to find the plastic primer and the high fill primer, especially.
Awesome stuff mate
that came out beautiful
Nice video but my motorbike has inner plastic panels in black and there not shiny they had that black front bumper rough touch and I want to spray it and make it glossy like you have done there so will I have to spray on filler primer and then sand it down so it's flat and all level so when I spray glossy black and then clear coat I will see y self in the panel ? Badass and great results, My I ask what kind of airbrush you have? Thanks
@supersanchez1991 ha, thanks but no have not had any formal training. just learned from asking questions. I've been lucky enough to have experienced painters around to get advice rather then internet forums.
If you don’t have access to an air compressor and spray paint gun. Can shaker cans do the same thing?
Whats the difference between a hifill primer to a regular primer?is the former much thicker? Is it really necessary to use a high temp paint?
Looks sick. Great job
Nice work! 10,000 Kms later and he's still wearing the same shirt 😏
Really well done, I want to pain the caps in my bay (like the oil cap power steering fluid....etc) so they are not yellow, this jvideo ust made me realllly want to do it . Thanks
nice demo .problem is your materials not available here in the phillipines
very nice would of looked awesome with the center part where the V is black
Would u be able to do a video for an Avalanche plastic cladding to match the color of the truck?
Nice work!
Is the plastic primer heat resistant? And the color paint...does that have to be heat resistant too?
Excellent video btw!!
my engine cover is very rough from the factory, do I just use alot of filler primer to get it really smooth for paint?
I have a question which i get different answers every time. After you lay your color (base coat) do you sand it back before applying the clear with acrylic ?
would spraying a rubber cover on an engine be the same process?? I have a 2020 toyota supra and it has a big rubber over on the middle
So with people that don't have air guns, will it be good done in spray cans?
On plastic car bumpers, are you suppose to sand down the paint as well and then start the steps from this video? I know there's a video on this but it doesn't talk about already painted parts.
Here is the video. ruclips.net/video/eLH4zVf3nFk/видео.html Grey scotch is fine. no need to prime again
Were those heat resistant paint or high heat type of paints or just regular paint?
Mate ive seen a few of your videos and they're great just a question I have a dune buggy and was gona spray it black gloss but hav'nt ever done it before (only done cans) and I tryed to do a side pannel with cans and evan on a warm day it just not a good finish was going to buy a beginner spraygun off ebay for £30 with a priming and spraying nosel kit but do you think I could do it my dads a mechanic and knows people in that paint trade so paint and thinners isnt hard to thanks
Paul, Ireland
Which model spray gun is that? I'm interested how beautifully you use it.
Hey thanks for the quick reply! Is 2k the only kind that I won't have to sand the clear to get a good finish? And how much paint do you think ill need to paint a scooter? There's not really that much surface area but I've never painted before so I have no idea. Thanks!
It's a Holden, esentially an aussie chevy
I want to paint my engine cover on my 08 Silverado like that, but the previous owner painted it and it looks bad. Do I have to sand the paint all off to the plastic. Like start all over?
it adds 50HP more :D :p
Hi good morning,,,really & really very goooooood job & Very good finishing,,,best regard to u,,,,mazin from KSA ,,dammam city
@MEERKATmichael Hello, I have asked 3 different professional spray painters this also I asked the paint manufacturer. And no you dont have to sand between coats or before clear. Just wait 10 min then clear it. :)
Nice job man you make it look soo simple lol.
Great video/channel mate, couple of questions as I have started this project based on your vid: between primer and high fill primer do you have to wait 24 hours or are we talking touch dry? Why do you not use HTP? Thanks!! :)
Ill be painting parts of my G8!
Beautiful car btw
I'm planning to do this on my 350Z engine cover. So is it necessary to use both primer and adhesion promoter? If so, which comes first?
Quick question. If using mirror chrome, do you need to cut and buff after the three coats of clear?
FYI, in his earlier videos he mentioned MCM inspired him to start creating vids. If you notice in MCM... he's the paint guy from VG they always go to.
Silly goose.
And what grade of sandpaper would you use to scuff? Also the name of the paste type thing you used to scuff with...sorry i'm a noob.
lol
Thanks
I saw the first spray you put on the cover dried very quickly. Is there an advantage to painting in the sun or should it be avoided? Pros and Cons to it?
How long did it took you to paint properly my clear coats doesnt get into the shine even did 3 coats but i did not use primer and not sand it ?
Always use plastic primer on plastic, it won't stick properly without it. When using clear coat, go in one direction and don't just spray all over, and be somewhat generous with each coat. Overspray will cause the clear coat to not shine and instead be rough.
@cLiXzOr sanding it should be ok. use 600g wet sandpaper
You need to do the battery cover and intake box now.
Looks awesome! one question, was there a reason for leaving the black parts masked when you applied the clear coat?
What's the Color code on the Ghost Chrome that you used?
what is the name of the paint which is heat resistant i want to do it on my E60 M5 and where can i buy it in red color . Thank you
I just painted my brakes can I use the same caliper paint on the this plastic hood part? or do I need to purchase the plastic paint? lol
Dude that looks mad. Instant sub from me!!
nice work... just a quick question. Do you need to use heat resistant paint for your engine cover or will regular spray paint do the job?
Normal paint is fine, it can withstand engine temp.
ah awesome, thanks for the reply and keep up the good work
Briliant video! Thanks for directing me here, the finish you achieved on that engine cover is superb! SUBSCRIBED!
Hi, could this technique and steps be applied to the jeep wrangler unlimited plastic fender flares?
Why did you spray the clear then the chrome?
@JAKtheMAKK I know I need to buy a proper mic im using my phone to record then sending to the computer. If I raise the volume in editing it gets all distorted. Im goin to buy one now..
customspraymods why do you put plastic primer on then the hi fill primer? Do you need to do this? Is that plastic primer clear? Is that primer used so the hi fill primer will stick?
can i get these same results using spray cans and if so what do i purchase?
What happens if I use rattle cans cos i dont have a gun
Looks awesome
awesome video, might do it to my sv6 :)
What kind of paint should I use?
So the paint sticks to the primer better, since the primer is shiny it may cause runs in your base coat.
Hey just wondering, why do you sand after you put the primer on??
Can this be done all with rattle cans? I want to do it for mine but i dont have a spray gun
nice work my friend...
Is the high fill primer also known as filer primer?
what type of clear coat do you use?
How much paint would I need for this?
Mighty Car Moods sticker on it!!! :D! Nice ride!
could you explain what you're doing @ 4:33 - 4:50 ?
Nope, its been 6 months now and it still looks exactly the same.
I want my engine cover painted just the sides did you use regular paint and primer or was it high temp paint n primer?
DZenitram23 What did you end up using?
RedRashBallz I ended up using scratchwizards paint and clear Ford j7 color to match the car paint I have a video to show I only post pics no voice with text info you can see what I went thru the good n bad
Gotchu. Thanks a lot bro
I know its a big ask , but could you make a video tutorial on spraying the engine parts with spray cans please?
I dig the MCM sticker!
Did you use a plastic adhesion promoter
@lonewolf74 Hey, This is my way of setting up the fan on the spray gun a handspan away from the gun and a hand span wide.
Thank you for your show I want training your technology
wont this peel off under heat?
You've gotta hand paint that with a brush OR you can do it the hard way, tape up around the "V6" and paint it that way. Your choice.
Well done 👌🏼
did u just get a job at vg auto paints?
