When my brother was 2, we were painting the house, and he slipped out the front door. We didn’t notice right away. He was missing for 6 hrs. A stranger found him walking alone, covered in paint, and called the police. Worse six hours of our lives. I don’t wish a missing child on any parent.

Agreed. When I was about 9 years old I was walking back from school. We live in a very small town and any new car and unknown face is immediately acknowledged. An older man in a fancy car stopped next to me asking if he cpuld give me a lift home. I was very close to my house, it was a sunny day and it struck me as very odd he would ask this of me. I also saw a very small dog sitting next to him in the passenger seat. I remember being terrified of this man for some reason and I declined saying I live right here and pointed to my friend's house. I run to his house knowing they would help me if needed. The guy quickly drove off. I remembered his license plate and it was from a very big city 1 hour drive from our town. I told my parents but they never followed up with the authorities. To this day I think about that and wonder if they had allowed a child molester or worse to get away... :(

It's one of the biggest flaws in our justice system imo.
To make the loved ones of a victim wait nearly four decades for justice to be served (if they are even still living) is ludicrous.
It also comes at an unbelievable financial cost for taxpayers.
Ten years on Death Row seems plenty long enough for appeals to possibly prove their innocence, especially in today's world of advanced technology and DNA.

As a mother of 4 grown daughters 2 of which has given me 8 grandchildren my empathy & sympathy is extended to you, your spouse and your older daughter. Since I was a victim of molastation at the age of nine I was always overerly protective when my girls were young. I am not alluding that you had any similar experience but you were probably influence to make sure that your girls were very aware of “stranger danger” and that is why you made sure that they used the “buddy system”. Knowing that you needed to also recognize not to impede their responsible growing maturity you allowed your precious daughter to run the errand to go to mail the card, I’m sure knowing the route she would take & how long it would take. Thank God you had such a supportive community and uncorrupted Police officers. Although you will suffer the pain of your horrible loss forever at least you recovered her remains and to be able to bury her and able to have her interred and be able to have a place to sit and talk to her!on those days that can be so bleak may God hold you in his embrace and fill your heart knowing you will see and hold her again! I pray that your older daughter has your strength of character. God bless you all!

My parents came outside yelling where I went.I remember getting in trouble but they weren’t upset at the lady. She deflected the blame on me and said I should of asked my parents.Years later I’m thinking, she was the adult. She should of asked my parents or at least made sure I asked them.

Crimes like this are all the reason we need the death penalty. These predators cannot be rehabilitated, and the way their brains are wired cannot be retrained. They will always see children as prey, and once they have taken their first victim, there will be others. I honestly do not support the death penalty in most other cases, because it is impossible to retract death if an error in an investigation leads to an innocent person being convicted. But for child predators, no society can afford the cost of allowing these people to ever walk free. Life is not enough of a sentence. If a human being takes the life of an innocent child in a predatory fashion, they need to be put to death. Harsh? Sure, but the steady stream of victims leading up to and following a predator's first murder of a child speaks directly to the need. Society needs to protect the children.
