Gum disease treatment can be done today in a minimally invasive, maximally effective way, with dental lasers.
In this video Dr. Joseph Nemeth, a Periodontist in Michigan discusses LANAP, and how we have been able to help our patients save loose teeth which would have otherwise been lost to periodontal disease.
When you have gum disease, you start to lose the bone that supports the teeth. Periodontitis is the #1 cause of tooth loss so if we can treat gum disease, often times we can save loose teeth.
There are many benefits to laser gum treatment. One of the benefits is avoiding cutting infected gum tissue away and sometimes we can achieve bone regeneration or bone growth.
We cannot count on predictable bone growth. However, in many cases we have been able to regrow bone in the jaw and save teeth that are loose because of gum disease.
Periodontitis is a silent killer. When you have gum disease, often times you don't even know it. Sometimes, you can't tell by looking at your teeth and gums. That's why we look at the x-rays to examine the true damage occurring underneath the surface.

@@parveenchauhan1117 Well, I ended up losing 5 teeth, four 12 year molars, and one 6 year molar. I tried every procedure imaginable, but they just couldn't be saved. The infection just kept coming back in those teeth.
Right now, everything is stable and all my gum pockets are normal and the bone is good, but it can literally change from month to month.
My other three 6 year molars are in jeopardy and can potentially go bad if the gum disease flares up again, but right now, they are fine.
The importance of a good diet with minimal refined sugar is the most important thing. Sugar creates the bad bacteria that causes gum disease. If you have healthy gums and teeth, then it isn't a problem, but when you have periodontal disease, everything matters.

Prior to my surgery, I asked if bone really does regenerate after the LANAP Procedure....I was told bone RARELY grows back if at all. Hope I didn’t just waste $6,500. I think the procedure can save the tooth or teeth By making gums healthy and eliminating bacteria. You might just have to live with teeth mobility for the rest of your life if you’re not one of the very very unique cases that actually achieve bone regeneration. If I somehow feels that my class 1 mobility teeth has become less mobile, I will give a testimonial. As of now it’s only been 1 month post lanap for me.

    Hello Dr. Nemeth!
I just found your video here from a year ago, off of one of your more recent videos. The very first case you present would seem to be more of a "horizontal" bone loss case, would that be an accurate description? I've developed a few gingival "black triangles" across my lower 3-4 front teeth ... and I went to a local periodontist that had a LANAP laser, and they basically said it was irreversible.
I took their word for it, but seeing the first case you presented makes me wonder if I should maybe go get a 2nd opinion? Thank you for any insight you can provide. A video clearly about "horizontal" cases would be awesome! Some of us with bruxism and sleep disordered breathing really ended up messing up our jaws before we caught the damage.

If you get laser therapy get amoxicillin and metronidazole antibiotic 3x a day 3 days before your laser treatment and carry on the antibiotics for 5 days after the laser treatment. The laser therapy will increase blood flow for healing around the deep diseases tissue after the laser therapy which will allow the antibiotics to work much stronger than doing it alone. These 2 therapies combined will complement each other massively. Thank me later

No other antibiotics and nothing prior the procedure. I have to rinse gently twice daily with Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.12%. Doctor said no salt water rinse needed. Dear Dr. Nemeth, I am watching your videos from Germany and appreciate them as very informative and well made ! As I mentioned other where, I am 57 years old, having beginning parodontitis and a need for some orthodontic fine adjustments because of bad childhood treatments. As the pinhole technique seems to be "the" quantum step in recession treatment, the laser treatment seems to be an equivalent quantum step in parodontitis treatment. Traditional gum crafting with palate gum is brutal. And traditional gum pocket cleaning with mechanical methods hurts and must be narcotized, what makes the procedure also not so attractive. More over merely the mechanical removement of concrements not really kills the bacterias in the gum pockets. My questions are: Can laser technique remove deep and hart concrements ? Better then mechanical methods ? How often a laser treatment must be made ? Are there any recommendable treatments beside laser cleaning ? What is with antiseptical tooth creme. I am currently not so good situated with money and look what I can do against parodontic problems with low budget. The medical science of the USA is regarded as the most innovative and advancing worldwide. But it is "private" medical service and most expensive worldwide. My question is: What would a laser treatment cost in the USA ? Are there any contributions from health insurances in the USA ? How the costs split between insurance and private payments ? When looking for the prices for pinhole gum recovery treatments I found value from 500 to 20.000 Dollars. Actually 20.000 Dollars may be no problem for Mikel Jackson. But what is with normal persons, having only small income ? In Europa there is more social oriented health insurances. But for example higher quality dentistry is regarded as luxury treatments. A gum lifting is "beauty surgery" and must be payed privately. Actually I am beginning to investigate how to treat my case with some adult orthodontics and gum/bone reconstruction. But it will take some time to find a solution, also because of payment problems. I will document my case later, also public on RUclips, as I have done in first narrations scattered in my existing RUclips videos. Please tell some thing to my questions. I think a lot of persons have similar questions and like to read about it. Yours sincerely: Wolfgang Renner

Just a thought if a laser is used to burn out the plaque and bacteria , then it would also burn the skin inside the gum, which would leave dead skin on the inner gum and would inhibit the gum to reattach to the tooh and leave a gap between tooth and gum for food or bacteria to have a place to again create plaque and bacteria, Wouldnt the laser also burn some tooh or bone or skin at bottom between gum and tooth ? Nothing is mentioned that i picked up on results one or two years later since laser treatment seems to be new and years later results are lacking. For the cost and the unknowns would have to be in need of some thought ? 😀

@@josephrnemeth hi. I have got flap surgeries from my perio. However my front tooth has some bone loss and it has mobility issue as well- but its been same for years. Now, I want to get invisalign to close my gaps. Gaps from surgery and natural gap in my front two teeth. My perio doesnt want me to go for invisalign as he thinks my front tooth will fall off. On the other hand my dentist does not think it's that bad. Please suggest. I want braces as I have huge gaps

How many sessions would a patient with about 50% periodontal loss require to start seeing acceptable improvement?

Can this be used for instances were scaling is recommended?

Yes it can! LANAP is often used in more severe cases of gum disease where a scaling can be used to control mild to moderate periodontitis.
