No judgement if you decide a project isn’t giving you joy! Someone else will benefit and love the project more! “sleepless in Seattle “ is one of my favourite films too! Great video today Martyn!
You looked so cozy on the early Sunday morning part of the video. Very peaceful. I’m actually hoping that I wake up early one morning next week when I am off work, and am awake enough to do that. It actually looks relaxing.
Although I’m sorry the Advent socks didn’t bring you joy……congratulations on the decision to let go of them and continue the things that do bring you joy! (Great mantra by the way! Can I use it too?) That Toft Advent is lovely but if it isn’t Hansel and Gretel I’m stumped. Thank you for taking us along with Mark and your parents to dinner (we haven’t seen your parents in awhile)….looked delicious! Appreciate all the work you do in bringing all of us your Vlogmas!
Very inspiring to hear about destashing and moving yarn on. It's a hard decision, but in the end, it's worthwhile for peace of mind. I love the festive look of your lounge. I still haven't put my decorations up!
Hi Martyn, definitely agree. If you are not feeling the joy in our crafting then don't do it. Great mantra to go by. Love the hats and what fun for the two older girls. Just a snowman to finish and I'm done! Normally finishing on Christmas Eve. I'm trying to not think about oh I could make this as an extra! Off to the theatre to see Wicked tonight in Manchester. All your fault. Wicked virgin too. Oh that doesn't sound right. 😜 Will let you know what I think tomorrow. xxJane 🎄🌼
I was pleased to see you destash your socks. I thought they were lovely but they were clearly not bringing you joy. Shelley of Quilted Forest each January takes 12 UFOs and puts each into a numbered box. Every month, she picks a random number on YT and finishes that project during the month. You could follow along and choose to finish/frog and make something else/or, radically, you could destash as is. You seemed so much more relaxed when you made the decision to destash. I'm glad it didn't become just another UFO.
Love that you did what made you happy. I had to say no to my cousin when she “told” me she needed chicken hot pads for her to give as a Christmas gift. (And not pay for them) . Nope I’m working on a shawl for me it’s bringing me joy and there’s no deadline for it.
I can not believe you hadn't seen sleepless in Seattle before! I am glad you made the decision for the advent it is all about the pleasure you get from making xxx I still think Hansel and Grettle and the gingerbread house x
Oh golly, the tree really looks great in that corner. I love it. Good choice on the socks - hope the recipient really enjoys them. Yes, spend your time doing crafts you enjoy. I do think your nieces and nephew are very lucky children indeed. Looks like your Mom & Dad are too.
Thank you for sharing on how your projects are going. I’m so glad to hear you are doing the Hiberknit along! I’m behind as well just imagining my projects caught up. And working like a slow and steady tortoise 🤪😁
You are amazing Martyn! I can’t believe you are getting all that knitting done before Christmas. Btw, the HKAL is supposed to have a 3 colour fluff fade too so that each colour of yarn is held with each colour of fluff for a gradient of gradients. 😁 I am currently swatching with a 4.0 mm needle as when I measured after work today it was 21.5-22 stitches to 10 cm instead of 20. I can’t believe it. I have gone from a size smaller needle than Stephen to a size bigger than Stephen. 🤷🏻♀️ I am looking forward to burning some candles this weekend. 🕯️
Hello Martyn What about Mark‘s sweater? It is such a beautiful project!! Maybe you start a new shawl after finishing? This sweater is so amazing and you spendet a lot of time. But do what you like and have a very friendly advent.🧶🫂👋🏻
I'd feel the same about the socks. In the past I've had self striping sock coundowns that have a specific 1 or 2 stripe solid color dividing the daily stripes so you know when you get to that color in the skein you stop. I'm catching up on your Vlogmas and love seeing you and Mark doing your holiday traditions! I never said on the other video but I'm the one who doesn't "properly" load the dishwasher too 😂
Ok now the gold thimble makes me think of either Rumplestiltskin or Thumbelina 🤔 I initially thought those bunting looking 3 triangle strips looked like hair sort of lol!
Omg Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, two of my favourites. Btw your mum looks too young to be your Mum 🥰. Good choice about the socks, they don’t really look like advent socks but will make something nice for someone.
I was thinking Hansel and Gretel because of the 2 dolls, traditional style clothing, and gingerbread house, but I’ve started to wonder if it’s something like Rumpelstiltskin or Elves and the Shoemaker, or something else I’ve not thought of because of the key and thimble… I guess we’ll find out in a few more days. Hope you had a fantastic time at Kew. I really enjoyed making that hat too and am looking forward to seeing the final product. Your decision about the advent socks seems like a good one and has made me seriously consider a) gifting some socks I made that I don’t really like to someone else as I don’t smile or really enjoy wearing them and b) frogging a cardigan I’m making that I’m not enjoying the colour scheme of now it’s being knitted up…
Thank you for giving me permission to frog a project! I was waffling about frogging a cowl that I was not loving but felt I had put too much knitting time into. Not enjoying?...frog it! Yeah!!! Love those little hats for the kiddos!
Thimbles are used on the hand you hold the sewing needle. Normally, it is worn on the middle finger and used to push the needle after you get the tip of the needle into the material being sown together. The thimble keeps the needle from putting a hole in your finger. As a hand quilter, I have leather thimbles. One has a dimbled metal disk to push the eye end of the needle. The other leather thimble I wear a plastic finger tip thimble inside the leather one. If I really have a hard time getting a short, sharp needle through the fabric, I pull the sharp end with a pair of forceps (medical pliers).
lol 😂 Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie…I always feel that Lethal Weapon and. Gremlins are also Christmas movies…though some disagree with me… I don’t blame you for selling the socks. Life is short, it should be enjoyed. Hobbies shouldn’t be chores.
I’m going with Hansel and Gretel. I just want to find out how the first two pieces play into it! In keeping with the Tom Hanks theme: The Polar Express is a must.
shall I sound a bit like your mother : why not finishing one of your old wips before starting a new shawl? you could get out one of your unfinished socks and just give them 2 rows a day, just not to forget them. altough I do understand why you give those hats the priority, it seems a wonderfull gift for the nieces and nephew. Have a nice time at kew!!
I am not a sewist and don't understand what you are supposed to do with thimbles either. Kate at The Last Homely House wears one on the ring finger of her needle-holding hand. Maybe it protects your finger when you push the needle through fabric?? I would be more concerned about stabbing tbe fingers holding tbe fabric!

Well done on your sock decision! Sounds like the kinder thing to do for yourself 😊 Great film choices, too! Great episode, thanks for sharing 🙂

Die hard definitely a Christmas movie, I'm on the 3rd one tonight

I really loved the socks! Sorry that they were not making you happy, Wow, you are so busy. Can't wait to see the kid's hats.

Oooh those colours from Gemma look fab together!! I may have Wowed out loud when you held them up!!

'We've had a lazy Sunday...'
... depends how you define lazy - I reckon you bossed it! Wrapped presents and everything! Blimey!
I enjoy watching the process of your characters from Toft!

I have loved your vlogmas
Love those socks and really love the project bag !!!!! Sorry it’s not your cup of tea.

Gremlins definitely is, but I’ve never seen Lethal Weapon 🙈 so guess I’ll add that to the watch list!
Just FYI you use the thimble to push the needle so when you need to use some force you don’t accidentally perforate your pushing finger/thumb
Just started knitting Christmas hats for my 3 children. All in their 30s now though so very much NOT kids knits! 😂
I’m going with Hansel and Gretel. I just want to find out how the first two pieces play into it! In keeping with the Tom Hanks theme: The Polar Express is a must.

You could finish a Wip instead of starting early 😂
When I sew, I wear my thimble on my dominant middle finger to help me push the needle through the fabric.
Radio active 😳, upgrade on a lump of coal 😂

How cold in Fahrenheit does it get in your neck of the woods?
It’s currently 50 Fahrenheit, with a low of 44. The last few weeks we’ve been down to 40 and that’s kind of average…
@@knit365blog In my whereabouts we call that Springtime and we're dancing in the streets!
I just hope you don't frog Mark's sweater ...
