Hi guys little big town citrus centre very true even a traffic jam of pallet trucks .loved the guy doing sewing alterations on side of the road. I agree with Justin nice to see the roads being fixed up busy high street with plenty of shops the town is thriving all down to the citrus industry. Lovely tree lined streets with beautiful bottle brush trees. The truck with the fruit pictures Sonia said narjies my friend had a bar in Amsterdam called bar narjie .the RC secondary is a surprise as I went to a RC secondary school. The bowls club and golf course immaculate well done Eric 👏. Amazing drone footage. The bull and cow walking down the road crazy. DRF church was stunning and so well kept especially the lollipop bushes. Very interesting history Mr kirkwood was delighted a visionary. Thanks for taking me along great video cheerio till the next one
Bar Nartjie in Amsterdam, got to love that! 🍊😁 Kirkwood is a bustling town with clearly a lot of farming activity in the surrounding area. The roadworks were all over the place and caused heavy back-ups, but so good to see and it'll all be worth it in the end! The cattle strolling down the road was a highlight for us. As you always say, only in South Africa! 🇿🇦🐂
What a lovely place so clean and busy. The citrus really does it for this not so small town, it looks amazing from the drone. Brings back lots of memories.😊
Citrus country for sure! 🚙🍊 I'm glad we could show you present-day Kirkwood, a much busier and bigger town than we were expecting! Always super happy to hear you enjoyed the drone footage! Thank you for watching! 😍

Was hoping you would visit Kirkwood! Both my grandfather and great grandfather were Field Cornets of the Sundays River Valley. Great grandfather's farmhouse "Hillside" still stands at the base of the hill you climbed to the Look-out. Surprised you didn't notice all the spekboom growing up there. The "uie" in Uie Rivers, I think is Afrikaans for "onion". My great grandfather is buried in Uiepoort cemetery on the outskirts of Kirkwood. He was killed in a road accident near Hillside in 1902 when his horse drawn buggy collided with an overturned ox wagon. Amazing things happened back then! I am lucky to have a copy of Jane Meiring's history of the Sundays River Valley.
The natural beauty in this area is phenomenal. We're not really all that clued-up on trees and plants, so we probably saw the spekboom, but didn't know that they were called that! 😁🌳 Your family's association with this area goes quite far back. Thank you for the explanation of the Uye River, I think was how it was spelt, never thought that it could be onions! 😳🌰 It does make sense though.
Hi Curtis & Sonja. Fortunate to live very close to Kirkwood, been there on numerous occasions but really saw a whole lot more from drone footage.Hoping you got to taste some of those delicious oranges. 🍊🍊Thank you & safe travels
You must know Kirkwood inside out! 🚙😁 The drone shots really showcased the incredible green surroundings, I was super happy with the footage. We did indeed have some of their oranges during this trip, super sweet and delicious! 🍊👌🏻
Kirkwood is a bustling place in a fantastic natural setting! 🚙🤩 The only reason for the traffic was the roadworks and, although irritating at times, always good to see! 🚧
Oh wow what a beautiful town, kept clean and the surroundings so beautiful. So glad Kirkwood had the vision to build and plant in that area. I love the Eastern Cape and so excited that you are showing us more of the beautiful little towns and bigger ones. Thanks so much. Drone footage showing the beauty in its entirety.... stunning ❤
The natural surroundings are absolutely spectacular in this area! 🌳💚 The Eastern Cape just has such immense beauty, it holds a very special place in my heart too. I'm glad you're along for the ride! 🚙😁
What a nice little town. I love the vegetation and the town is well kept. It is obviously mainly driven by farming activity. They surely have no water problems! The drone footage was excellent and gave us a good view of the town and surroundings. I always under estimated the size of the town but now I know what it looks like. Thanks Sonja for the history of the town - it is always nice to be informed of the history which goes beyond visuals only. Thank you so much for this one - well done. Till the next trip - I will keep my seat warm!
Agriculture is definitely the driving force behind this busy little place! 🚛🍊 It was fantastic seeing the water gushing down the canals! Glad you enjoyed the history too, it was a rather interesting story about how Kirkwood got to be. 🚙👌🏻
Loved being elevated above the chaos of those extensive roadworks 🚧 via the TWO drone viewings 👏🏻👏🏻 of this very busy little town. I was very impressed with the well maintained garden/bowling greens - the Gardener deserves commendation for his diligence and commitment. It was also thrilling to see how much water was thundering along in that canal!
These must be the most extensive roadworks we've seen in a town this size, it was crazy, but great! 🚙🚧 It's certainly not a quiet, sleepy town, that's for sure! Glad you enjoyed Kirkwood from above too!
So good to see a town in South Africa actually making an effort to repair their roads. I remember in the 1970's when there was a surplus of oranges in Kirkwood. They trucked the oranges to the Addo elephant Park for the ellies. That caused an uproar because people thought the oranges should have been given away to the poor. It is so nice to see where you guys stay on your trips and also watter soort kos of padkos julle eet. I have only been to Kirkwood once when we lived in Uitenhage and Despatch. Thanks for taking me there on a second visit. Have you ever had a puncture on your travels ? I ask this because you seem to drive on some pretty dicey tracks and areas around the old railway stations. There can be nails or glass etc .
The roadworks were everywhere! 🚙🚧 I remember seeing pics of the elephants munching on mounds of oranges, that must've been a treat for them! 🐘🍊 We will always show you our accommodation and what we eat in the evenings, unless it's leftovers. 😁 This was our 18th trip and we've had a total of one flat tyre, on Day 2 of Trip 1. Check out Episode 5 if you haven't yet!
There is certainly a lot of works going on in Kirkwood, which is not something we often see, especially not to this extent! 🚙🚧 The bowling greens were in fantastic shape and the greenkeeper was very proud of them! 🎱
Hi you two! An amazing approach to the town under blue skies with beautiful greenery on a gravel road through dinosaur country! Thank you for taking me along to this fascinating town. You must have been exited to discover a station again. Such a pity it is out of service, the rail system could mean so much for the roads. Your two drone views were excellent again, showing the nice layout of the town. The treelined streets, beautiful homes, green lawns and bowling greens are exceptional for such a bustling town. Repair work on streets and roads never bother me. I'm only too glad to see it being done. The Kirkwooders are clearly keeping an eye on keeping their town neat. Thank you Sonia for the history and other background. I'll be waiting on the side of any road you decide to take next! Keep safe!
Kirkwood, the country of dinosaurs and roadworks and both excited us! 🦖🚧 Oh, and oranges and green as far as the eye can see! 🍊🌳 You know we're always super excited to happen upon a station and it's become par for the course unfortunately that they're defunct, but they're still cool to see! Glad, as always, that you enjoyed the drone shots. I just had to fly the drone again at the golf course!
Thank you for taking me to kirkwood. Ive always wanted to go and now I have. Gorgeous place and lovely vibe. Oranges and Aloe country. Whoop whoop where to next with the dustbug? 😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂
Thank you for coming to Kirkwood! 🚙😁 Oranges and aloes, amongst many other things, for sure! Let's see where we here headed to next. Hopefully you enjoy just as much! 🤩
Wow what stunning places you are taking us to on your adventures, a beautiful town that might just enjoy an influx of visitors and possibly more residents after watching this episode. I could immediately tell that Eric was proud to be looking after the greens in your opening shot on your arrival at the bowling greens, by his stride. The setting of the golf course is stunning and what a spot for a hospital. The fact that the town sports a private hospital is what probably makes it a viable option as a commuter town. Were there any signs of this, that is residents live in Kirkwood but do their economic activities in Kariega or Gqerbha (Sonia prounces it so well 😂)
Eric, the greenkeeper. He was quite the character, but not keen to pose for a pic! 🎱😁 We actually chatted to a gentleman in town who is a daily commuter to Gqeberha and with it being less than 50km away, it's actually not a long drive at all. With an even shorter distance between Kariega and Gqeberha, I would imagine even more folks there would do the back-and-forth thing on the daily. 🚙
I remember Kirkwood well. We used to pass through on the way to Addo. That is certainly an awesome view! Back then, Kirkwood was very small. There seems to be more of it now. Ha ha! Kirkwood rush hour! So glad you found the station. I am most impressed by this town, dinge lyk agtermekaar hier! As per usual, I totally love seeing all the old buildings. Love the cat on the bowling green. I remember Kirkwood being full of huge beautiful old trees. And this shows up so well on the drone footage. Wow!!! That bull is ....a lot of BULL! I am most impressed. Thanks for filling in the history.
Kirkwood rush hour indeed! And the DustBugs chose to arrive at the perfect moment to experience it! 😁🚙🚚 It's by no means a little town anymore as I was expecting to find and a really bustling place, which is fantastic. Of course Sonia was just as enthralled by the cat and the cattle as you were! 🐈🐂 The green in and around town showed up really nicely on the drone shots, I was pleased with those!
The cattle were fantastic and a definite highlight for us, that bull was ginormous! 😳🐂 It certainly is a bustling town with many faciliites, including healthcare and recreational ones, which are always top of the list for us. The only reason we were able to resist KFC, was because we had a hearty on-the-go breakfast in Kariega! 🍔 We'll be thinking of you on Thursday, all the best! 😬🦷
Awesome video of the area I've also watched a few others like jansenville one how does your kwid hold hold up to the gravel roads etc normally it seems people insist you need a huge 4x4 at a minimum to travel around south Africa a video outlining your vehicle choice would be awesome ❤definitely a new fan and already subscribed
It's a complete and utter misconception that one needs an off-road vehicle in most places. We've found that 95% of roads are totally passable with a high-clearance sedan and we've been on some pretty rough roads. We rent a vehicle every time and it just so happened that we were given a Kwid for our first trip. Needless to say, we now ask for one every single time. It's an awesome little car. 🚙😍 Our videos have really showcased all its abilities over and over again, so I won't be doing a specific one on it. 😁 Thank you for watching and subscribing! 👌🏼
Was in Maart 2023 daar by famielie. Bly om te sien die opgradering van die paaie vorder so goed. Daar is nog soveel meer om te sien soos die kamp plek - Sitrusoewer, die pad na Kabouga Hek en nog vele meer net buite die dorp op pad ADDO toe
The roadworks were fantastic to see! 🚙🚧 It's never our goal to see absolutely everything in a town or place we visit, it's simply impossible to do so. Instead, we prefer to focus on what we are lucky enough to get to see. 😁 Thank you for watching.
Beautiful Dutch Reformed church👏👌
