Beautiful quaint town. That is really isolated living & they're loving it, wish i could say the same about myself but i need shops & people 🙈, probably because i come from a big family . Amazing old buildings, thank you again foe a lovely trip 🚗🚗🚗
One has to admire them for their simplicity, things just seem way less complicated out there and I'm all for simple and uncomplicated! 👌🏻 Thank you for coming to the small town of Van Wyksdorp with us! 🚙😁
What I often found in these locked churches( these days because of all the thefts and vandalism) is to ask at a house or shop nearby and ask for the keys, or someone to show you inside the place! They will show you and tell you the whole story! They are always so proud of their " dorp" and pleased that you are interested...❤🌹🤟
We've visited 400+ towns and places in the last two years and speak to locals in every single place we get to. Churches are just one of the things we're interested in though, so it's not our goal at all to get inside each one. If we can admire the architecture and spot the cornerstone, we're happy. If we're lucky enough to be able to get inside, that's fantastic. If not, we're totally cool with that too. 🚙💒
@tjschannel1532 We drove through the area of Vermaaklikheid shortly after we started our channel two years ago, but didn't make an episode about it specifically. Our channel has evolved somewhat since then, but you can check out Episodes 21.1, 21.2, 22.1 and 22.2 for the general area. 😁 Heidelberg we visited in Episode 66. Enjoy!
We love the small towns, they have so much character and charm! 🤩 I'm very happy you enjoyed this visit to Vanwyksdorp. We loved seeing the church and all the restored houses too. 🚙😍
Brilliant!! Your travels are so inspiring! With you doing the driving on some very difficult roads and your wife doing all the history stuff!! And both of you are so interested in the old churches, with all the corner stones and info..... I know this part of the country very well and enjoy seeing everything again, with new eyes! "Baie dankie!"❤❤❤❤🤟🤟🤟🌹
I'm happy to hear you're enjoying exploring all these places with us. 🚙😁 The architecture and cornerstones of the churches, and any other older buildings for that matter, are very interesting to us. 🏛️💒
I'm enjoying your videos more. I had a farm in Vermaaklikheid, just outside Riverdale, so there Klein Karoo brings back memories. Thanks for posting. You guys are awesome.
Hi you two! Oh my! Gravel roads, blue skies, mountains all around, majestic gemsbokke ... . Can one ask for more? Yes you can! Let DustBugs take you into Van Wyksdorp to see what a peaceful place really looks like! This trip was fantastic. The church buildings reflecting the late sun, the immaculate gravel streets, all nestled in the mountains and unique Karoo fields. The 'Mall' must be the most unique mall in South Africa! Your sundown trip looking for your overnight place had me bewildered for a moment, but what a beautiful place it turned out to be. The drone view in the morning showing it as a speck in the wide, open fields. This must be one of the (if not the) most beautiful of your your videos Curtis and Sonia. I hope you really enjoyed the trip as much as I did just watching it. Thank you again. I must stop now. I am getting emotional. Until next time -- Keep safe!
We really did enjoy this trip as much as you did watching it. It had all the elements we search for on our travels: gravel roads, natural beauty, wildlife, stunning skies, breathtaking mountains and landscapes and of course a little adventure and discomfort thrown in for good measure and to bring us right down to earth! 🚙🤩 It was third time lucky for us and Die Boshuis provided safe, warm and comfortable shelter that evening. Little did we know that we're all alone in a sea of green, it was fantastic waking up to that the next morning! 🌳😍
When I saw you taking the Garcia's Pass, I hoped that our next adventure would be Van Wyksdorp as it is an intriguing place only accessible by gravel roads as we have now experienced. Although, I have seen it on other RUclips content, I was excited to see it through your magical showcasing. Although intrigued about the place, I was somewhat let down by some who have visited and whose description of the place was not so flattering. With a few exceptions such as the Church and that Beautiful School, I have to agree..I was not impressed and those dilapidated dwellings help neither. However, what blew me away was that stunning farm that you stayed on, the first place was incredible, your final one was stunning too. Now that is a place worth visiting...just the place to go to where you can unwind or write your novel. Thank-you once again! 😊
The fact that the village is only accessible by gravel, must be one of its biggest selling points for us! We loved the place and there are many beautifully-restored houses which were a feast for the eye! 🤩🏡 Even those two derelict ones added a certain kind of charm for us and were clearly two very beautiful buildings in their heyday. Our farmstay was interesting at first and phenomenal at the end. We could really not believe our eyes that morning when we saw we were quite literally surrounded by green! 🌳💚 I could easily spend a week there myself! 🚙😁
@@DustBugsTravel those places must easily be of the best that you have stayed in and you really have stayed at wonderful places. I look forward to your next installment, by the way congratulations on breaking the 2OK subscribers 😀...
Hi guys I apsolutey love this place the drive in Gravel road blue skies and red mountains plus abundance of wildlife!!! Road sign watch out for ostriches this place is like a dream come true right up my alley. These little gems always have surprises the music school recital wonderful. The mall so quaint and quirky the big DRF church stunning beautiful Cape Dutch style school. Third time lucky with your accommodation you couldn't make it up the night drive there brilliant. I can only imagine waking up to that collosel views just like paradise for me the drone showed how isolated you were top notch video I'm going to have to look at houses for sale!!! One can only dream.
I'm telling you, we were blown away when we woke up the next day and realised we were literally surrounded by rolling hills of green, that was almost all we saw! 🌳💚 It was indeed third time very lucky for us that night! Van Wyksdorp is a quaint and charming place, overflowing with character. The late afternoon sun bathed all the buildings in the most beautiful light and it was quite a magical experience for us. 💒 With your pounds, you'll be able to afford one of those old restored properties. Just imagine! 😁🏡
What a glorious little place! I could feel it and smell it. It's a place I'd like to lie on the ground and take it all in. I'm sure you enjoyed it immensely. Totally my kind of place.
I hear you! It's actually totally our kind of place too and it was a joy to visit. We did a lot of seeing, smelling and listening in this area, it was a sensory overload for sure! 🚙🤩 Super happy that you enjoyed Van Wyksdorp so much!
I loved the trip and the vegetation. Even Eland and other wild animals. So nice to get to nature for a change. The Mall is really a nice shop if you take that it is a small town. I love your love for churches as I love to see them as well! Nice big church at an Wykdorp. I love the big plots. At least you are not so cramped like in the city. Wow the old buildings are nice. Can just imagine the rich history behind it! Nice place where you stayed over. Nature at its best! Thanks for this trip as I come from a farm of the same vegetation I really relived my young days. How can I not be in my seat for the next trip - it is becoming addictive!!
The wildlife was cool to see, we'll always love that! 😍🦌 I'm so happy to hear that the vegetation in this area brough back fond memories for you. It was incredible on that farm surrounded by forests of green. 🌳💚 Van Wyksdorp is a charming place with loads of character and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the little village. Your seat is confirmed and there'll be big trouble if you're not at the usual time at the usual place tomorrow! 🚙😁 I look forward to seeing you again then!
Howdy guys 😊 i loved the scenery, those mountains are magnificent!! OMW those Gemsbokke were stunning. Wow 😮 Your sleep over was sure off the grid 😅 God has blessed us with such beauty!! Thank you ❤
Those gemsbok were incredible with their super long, sharp and straight horns. 😍🦌 The natural beauty was most certainly the crowning glory of our visit. 🚙🌳⛰️
I have never heard of Vanwyksvlei. Vanwyksdorp yes. I wonder if its he same Van wyk. Lovely to see a herd of springbuck. Y-junction? Not to be confused with a Y-front. Which is a political party if I am not mistaken. The mountains are stupendously gorgeous. And gemsbuck are some of my favourite antelope. Yep, I would say Kleinkaroo. Seeing that old building with the earthenware pipe, I suddenly smell anthracite burning, beautiful! This is a seriously pretty dorpie! And at last you got a beautiful place to stay. Piggy back up the stairs? Home baked loaf....nothing nicer, but I was there that bread would have been history. LOvely garden, those flowers are kankerbos Now thats a place I would really like to stay.
The scenery in and around Van Wyksdorp was truly stunning and mountains were protecting us from all sides as we explored this gorgeous area! 🚙⛰️ The flowers and the vegetation surrounding our little cottage were all we could see the next morning when we woke up, it was awesome! 🌺🌳💚 You would paint for years in this area! 🚙🎨 Thanks for coming along!
Greetings to you in the south of France! 🇫🇷 I can imagine how completely different the vibe in Van Wyksdorp is compared to where you are! Those springbok certainly looked ready to kick a ball or three over the posts! 😁🏉 Having lived abroad ourselves for a number of years, it never ceases to amaze me that there will almost always be South Africans around. The world has indeed become a village. 🇿🇦🌍 Your lunch in the old station hall sounds incredible! I wish you happy and safe travels for the rest of your trip!
Tongelong..... Tongelong uit daardie klok te kry nie. Ek skryf in Afr omdat my Eng maar baie kakkerig is.
I think we would've eventually reached the town centre, I knew there had to be some shops and things around. 🚙😁 It's actually quite a widespread village and incredibly fascinating. I'm glad you enjoyed!
Love to see that Van Wyksdorp also has a mall, and a beautiful one too. We stayed over at the Williston Mall some 3 years ago. We loved stayed over there and did the treasure hunt in their backyard.
That sounds like fun! Both Malls were closed at the time of our visits. We arrived in Van Wyksdorp after hours and there was a film shoot ongoing at the one in Williston. Both places look very cool from the outside though! 🚙😁
Me and my girlfriend Kirsty stayed in Boshuis some years ago. Hope the horses on the farm is still there. We had a great time and miss the farm very much.
I'll look out for that increased activity. 👍🏻 We were saddened to see the footage of the fire at the woodchip mill, just a few short weeks after our visit. 😥
My father took this route a few months before he died of cancer. I believe it was because my great grandfather or grandfather had connections there I can't believe he traversed this route with a 26 year old Nissan Sentra
Abandoned buildings are by no means only found in South Africa, but worldwide. When folks move away to the bigger centres and cities in search of ways to earn a living, smaller towns have less of a need for facilities and buildings fall into disrepair and decay. Houses which are empty, eventually follow the same route due to lack of repairs and maintenance. 😥🏡
Hmmmmm for some reason the " onderskrif op julle puik video vertaal elke Afrikaans woord met iets wat totaal geen sin maak nie ! Kyk aub daarna ,lyk of dit iemand is wat erg Afrikaans is ,,dit los n bitter smaak in my mond 😢 Ek geniet julle avontuure 😊
Those are closed captions and auto-generated by RUclips. I have no control of them whatsoever. 🤷🏻♂️ When you're playing one of our videos, you'll notice in the top right part of the screen a CC inside a square. Click or tap on that icon and the captions will no longer be visible.
Sonja has an artist's eye for beauty. Often when you show something, we only really see the beauty in something when Sonja points it out. I honestly think she should be more part of the videos. Please ask her to show her talking sometimes. It's not like we have never seen her. She is sometimes in the shot. Esp at Bloedrivier. Sterkte mense.
The thing with Sonia is that she sees the beauty in even the most ordinary thing and that makes her the most incredible travelling partner. 🚙😍 I ask her very often to appear on camera, but she is just not keen on being filmed. So, until she hopefully changes her mind one day, I'll respect that. 🥰
Again thanks for video, such beauty, in other video it was video of a main street that everyone sped through...🛣🏚🚌🎢 as they were discribing the town on their way to the next town....😅😊
While we prefer smaller towns, we have to go through larger towns with busy main streets in order to reach the smaller towns. 🤷🏻♂️ Perhaps you didn't watch the whole video, but we never just speed through a town on our way to another town. We take our time to explore every town or place we get to and to learn as much about the place in the limited time we have. Thank you for watching. 🚙
Can you believe it !!! First view and....... first comment. Brilliant video as usual, thank you
Our visit to Van Wyksdorp was a memorable one for sure. 🚙👍🏻
You have shown the majestic beauty of the Klein Karoo. Moutains, koppies, bush, wild life, towns and people. A great drive. Thanks again.
Yup, those are all some of the things we love dearly, especially when we travel! 🚙😍 I'm glad you enjoyed the visit!

Tongelong..... Tongelong uit daardie klok te kry nie.
Ek skryf in Afr omdat my Eng maar baie kakkerig is.
Nobody will want to leave that little Eden 😅
UNREAL NICE BLESSED
Had you turned around you would have missed the town! It is much bigger than I thought and very intriguing with some pretty buildings.
I think we would've eventually reached the town centre, I knew there had to be some shops and things around. 🚙😁 It's actually quite a widespread village and incredibly fascinating. I'm glad you enjoyed!
I love the dirt roads you like to travel on.
So beautiful.
On my bucket list, for sure.
I have no doubt that you will love it! 🚙😁
Me and my girlfriend Kirsty stayed in Boshuis some years ago. Hope the horses on the farm is still there. We had a great time and miss the farm very much.
We didn't see many animals, but I would imagine the horses would still be there. What a beautiful place! 🚙😍
Great dorpie. But R3.4m for the 1910 house opposite the "Mall" shocked me! But lovely place.
I forget about property prices the moment we leave home, so I had no idea! 🏡
You will see a spike in activity. Mentionrd uour visit to Richards Bay to Wynand Du Toit's... The fire at wood mill
I don't know why there are so many abandoned buildings in South Africa.
😂for you it is hills, for us born en bred from this world it is mountains.
Hi I realy like to ask who is the ladies is we only hear a sweet voice who is she
The lady with the sweet voice is my wife, Sonia. 🥰
Cool
You'll just gave me and my wife some places to go visit.... Cool man thanks keep doing this
Ek geniet julle avontuure 😊
Flippen iretating most of all
Yet you watch! 🚙😁
