I can't watch spring day without crying and even while listening sometimes I just burst into tears :( BTS are so brave to even make this mv during the time all that controversy was going on. They did well to reach millions of people in the country and really gave the victims and survivors comfort. Spring Day will always be that song 💜

After 10 years together with army , the last two members of BTS joined the military on 12th December 2023.

@@MargaretSpillane-yl3pj I am not sure what you are talking about, but some of BTS's song lyrics like this are complex and people such as myself like to understand the lyrics and MV much as possible. I appreciate it when people do a deeper dive into the lyrics and visual symbolism in an MV. Especially when the Italian BTS Army produced an explanation video about this particular MV.
@@alicesworld1 To be clear, the song and MV are unrelated. RM wrote the song about the longing of a past friend. The MV was made in reference to the tragedy.

The song is NOT about the tragedy, only the MV is. I wish people would stop saying this because this how misinformation just keeps getting spread around. RM (and Suga) wrote the song about longing for a old/past friend.

Its a school bus because all the kids who died in that sewol tragedy are students on a trip to Jeju Island who never made it back home because of the tragedy

Because of this, I am definitely suscribing to your Patreon. This story needs to be more told, I had no idea of the deep story behind the disaster, but one random night while staying in Japan, I watched Rotten Mango's episode on it and could not believe it. After a few days, I was staying in Busan and went to the beach at night, the story of this disaster has shocked me and is haunting. That night I could not stomach to go too close to the beach and I felt anxiety and started crying for the lives lost, this song, though I don't listen to it often, was so beautifully written, and brings such comfort. ❤

No, the clothes represent the clothes that came ashore from the sinking of Sewol. Notice Jimin on the beach picks up a shoe from the water. (IU covered Spring Day as many artists did in honor of those lost - I believe, in my opinion only, by showing the pile of clothes left behind it was a reminder of what was left behind of the lost lives. The clothes in the pile embody each person's spirit though empty they still give value to the the essence of a life that was not valued enough to be rescued or saved. And just like in her video, those who were imperfect were ridden from society but the pile of clothes left embodies each distinct personality of the individual) The video also makes the connection to BTS/Spring Day, since Tae was in the mv. She is carrying on the same message. Nothing really has changed since then, the government is still corrupt.
The pile of clothes were left behind by all the young people that were victims in the Sewol Ferry tragedy that happened in April 2014.

I just lost my mom in October and sometimes then I need to just let myself cry I listen to Spring day on repeat, have a good cry and it gets a tiny bit better. 💜

As a baby ARMY of two years old, I made a playlist of BTS songs as I explored their music and Spring Day struck me hard. It was 7th in a playlist that I started of the group because of course Dynamite and Permission to Dance are Pop juggernauts and Jimin’s solos Serendipity and Lie pulling me in further and were my first experiences with BTS.
Knowing the meaning of Spring Day politically and the music video with the reference of Those Who Walk Away from Omelas (from Ursula K. Le Guin), was the first inkling that they were not just a random boy band with talent.
They are a group that offer more than the entertainment standard. I’m so grateful to have found them and will continue to support them. Let’s go!
Both of r very insightful in understanding the videos. Most of the victims r kids of different ages. Jimin, Jungkook n V r from Busan so they knew some of the kids. So if not for their jobs, the 3 members would b in the trip. The kids were ordered to stay in the lower deck where they slept. Kids r trained to obey the elders. The older kids didn’t obey n couldn’t convince the younger ones to go to the upper deck. The crew n captain left first. Most of the adults survived n majority who died were the younger ones. The ferry was overloaded with cars. The weight of the cars that tilted to one side made the ferry sink fast. The ferry was near the shore. The rescue effort was slow. They didn’t realized how bad it was. The gov tried to cover up the gravity of the tragedy. The crew n captain were prosecuted. The owner was found dead sometime later.
Absolutely wonderfully touching! I love Spring Day! You really need to see the EXPLANATION BY ITALIAN ARMY as that has real footage used in it as well even if you watch it on your own. I know ARMY would watch it with you. It brings on a whole extra new meaning since the comments, document didn’t spoil the actual explanation in details including the lyrics and the MV. There is an Xceleste Theory explanation but the other is much better in my opinion. Be ready to pause a lot because she speaks in Italian and fast. I understand as I lost my father the day after Christmas when I was 6 plus other close relatives all within age 3-7. I didn’t really understand but now that I’m older, I do. I’m still like you guys especially around that time of year so I find solace with this song. I’m now going to be turning 51 this year. It took me until my late teens or 20’s to really feel the importance of visiting or not but to remember. In my Japanese culture, there’s a day that is huge. It’s in the summer where the Japanese have a Huge Festival whee we go to the graves or celebrate all our past relatives and ancestors and the lives they lived rather than see the gloom and weight of it all. I started to get into gardening since my grandmother also passed and take my time at home or the grave site to feel the soil, to breathe and meditate, to lovingly plant or carefully weed. By doing this, I am less anxious and sad and feel all the living creatures in the soil. I encourage anyone to do something that helps you. My mother has tried and I try to advocate for certain issues to open awareness. I never really write about this topic or others publicly. The Queen of Korea is a reminder especially since I saw the explanation as well after I heard this released in 2018.

I will point out since you mentioned it, in the Busan concert, 1 of their songs and MV shows tonnes of references to their past music videos. The school bus is from their first song No More Dream, yet in the MV of Yet to Come, they do show props in the background from Spring Day and they end up on the school bus sitting in the exact same positions and even the tap on the shoulder from the Spring day MV. Also in the Busan concert they did sit on a small train like you said as you watched the MV💜💜💜🙏

Can’t wait for this reaction. Spring Day is such a beautiful song. Spring Day is honestly so legendary. To this day it still climbs up the charts just because which kinda became an inside joke between army’s. It’s that song.
I can guess you already talk about the Saewol incident this song is about. Such a tragedy and it points out how governments can really fail you. Something fun and cool I want to point out is the scene in which they show jungkook in the train that’s moving. You can see how because the train is moving, jungkook is kinda jumping up and down which is normal but it was actually jungkook who acted out being on a moving train. His movements were so natural that I find it cool and still think about. Is it just me?
Another fun fact. In the scene where they were running alltogether in that alley running up to the train that passed by them there is one member missing. I‘s funny because especially back then, bts‘ music videos were all about theorizing over them so army’s over analyzed that scene thinking it had meaning only to find out it wasn’t intentional but an accident 😂😂😂
Also personally, I find the pile of clothes so fascinating (they represent the victims). It’s also real, not cgi. In the love wins it all music video from IU in which V acted im we see a similar pile of clothes. I wonder if it‘s the same pile but changed? It definitely represents victims too but in a different context.
Only correction is that the song wasn’t written because of this tragedy. The song and mv are separate things. Either way, this song is a comfort to ARMY and SK citizens everywhere.

Such brave boys, now turning into spectacular young men. Even if it was 10 years ago it is still hard, of course sadness turns into longing then into memories. But for sure I know your mom was a beautiful mom, the way you talk about her. It was a fortune having that mom and then, your sister is also blessed with you 2, such loving brothers. "I remembered when they rescuing us its so tragic when you see your classmates/friends stuck asking and hearing them scream for help, the screaming and voices of people asking for help while the ships is sinking the scream slowly vanished. When you can’t help them because the water got deeper and deeper while they rescue us slowly. The time that i got rescued only 3 of us survived, my two classmates and i in our and my other classmates stuck in the ships hoping they’re still alive but when the time i heard the news that they’re all gone. It slowly sinking in that all my friends and the other class are gone and will never comeback. I feel guilty when I survived, I’m thinking am i lucky? Or is it not right that i was alive and not them? Do i deserve to live?.
Feeling depressed, having su!cidal thoughts, every night you can’t sleep because i keep hearing those scream a scream people needing a help but you can’t because your weak and got broken bones. Everything time I struggled to see what life is all about, thinking what if all of my friends survived and they with me survived. It would be dream to see that happening. I struggled to make a good life that i can be proud of because of that incident happened but when i found out about BTS my life changed me because of their music they changed my life the way that i can be proud of and I started loving myself by little by little and finally the day I realize life is so short and the incident happened 7years ago impacted my life to be a better person and all of our hardships are just a big task for us to make them done and the outcome will be 100times better the incident happened 7years ago thought me so many things.
The biggest one is don’t forget they might be gone but don’t forget them put them on your heart and like life all of your hardship and your mistakes will not lose or fail you it’s always a win win situation because we always learn from them. Spring day is my number 1 fav song of BTS because I reminisce the things happened 7years ago while watching the mv and it always help me to keep going in life and do not give up on things that i want to achieve

I truly hope he does not mind me passing on his public comment - but this best shows the power of BTS message.
The worst thing about the disaster - the captain and most of the crew fled the ship in the morning 9.35 - the ferry did not sink until the night - they left the warning to "not move and stay still" playing on a loop through the ship. Only the children that disobeyed the warning survived. The others drowned as they were so ingrained to listen to authority.
The civilian boats that attempted to rescue people were stopped by the coast guard as people would discover the boat was illegally overloaded.
Parents on the shore were receiving desperate calls and texts from their children begging for help. And the coastguard did nothing. The only rescue the coastguard made that day was the captain and crew... The people that got rescued were rescued by fishing vessels that got there first before they were stopped...
3 years the ferry lay at the bottom as the Govt would not raise it for fear of discovering the truth.... They found video footage taken on mobile phones that were recovered of children wishing their families goodbye.
3 crew members stayed behind to try and help the children, they all lost their lives, along with one of the rescue divers. Also, one of the civilian rescue divers later committed su!cide after having to recover so many childrens bodies, knowing that he could have saved them but was forcibly stopped.
As a parent, I could not comprehend having to live through such a thing. Horrific that your own government would perpetrate and then cover up such an incident... jailing dissenters for protesting. It was proven that there were high officials with financial interests in the ferry. The president colluded with them to bury the truth and hamper investigations... 10000 people in the public eye (reporters, artists, etc) put on a Govt blacklist for speaking about it.
BTS went and paid respects to the parents of the victims in 2014 when the tragedy occurred. No Cameras - No fanfair - just doing what was right...They also donated approx $100,000 (that year they only earnt $300,000 - they gave 1/3 of their earnings) to help the parents in their fight for justice.... We only found out about the donation years later as one of the parents was sick of all the hatred BTS was always getting and wanted others to know what decent and good people they are.
The MV, The album cover, The choreography all relate back to the Sewol. But the song itself is about missing anyone you love and are separated from. They were singing Spring Day during the panademic as the world was longing for a spring day. Spring Day has never left the music charts. To this day, it is right that this song is still in the top 100 charts.... 7 years later, as this song still speaks to people everywhere.
Sorry this is so long - but I really wanted to pass his comment and information to you relating to your Spring Day reaction video.... with posting your reaction you have helped keep the memory of Sewol alive and maybe others who do not know of it will learn of the tragedy.

I recommend you to watch Bangtan universe/BTS Universe/BU Universe to understand BTS discography better. Without knowing anything about the BU Universe it’s impossible to enjoy their songs fully. It is a whole new side of BTS. Every songs, every movements they make in their songs, every elements they use in their songs have different meanings. Sneakers, fire, water, hospital, phone booth, gas station, restaurant, cars, musical instruments, different hand movements all have meanings. It feels like watching great movies when you know the story behind theirs actions in their music videos.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this as I'm also quite sure not all ARMYs know this, but the word "implicitly" was used because BTS and the producers themselves had never directly linked the song to the Sewol ferry tragedy for many reasons
The tragedy itself had been a huge controversy in SK that involved the government and a ton of corruption cases were brought up during the time (that even the president at the time was linked) so in the past, every single celebrity or public figures who dared to talk about the tragedy were "silenced" or blocked. Take Block B, for example, who openly talked about the case as it happened because apparently, one of the leaders of their fanbase had been one of the victims (that even Zico, the band's leader went to the funeral and openly shared condolences for the victims), and they got publicly criticised by the media and their events blocked right after (obv the boys didn't care bc they cared about their fans more) or BAP, another group who openly sent condolences and donation for the victims' families and then got blocked or cancelled in multiple shows afterwards. there were many other cases that celebs and public figures that experienced the same that nobody dared to openly talk about the case since
It wasn't until 2017-2018 when (I believe) the ferry was finally pulled out of the ocean, a proper public burial was held for the victims, those who were held responsible legally prosecuted, and the govt issued an apology for the victims and that's when celebs finally had the courage to start talking about the case again. Which is why I think BTS and the company never explicitly said that the song was about the tragedy, even though fans and those who were connected to the event and the surviving victims felt that the song was meant for that tragedy as it brought them comfort and they caught a lot of hints in music video which implied about the event

The forsite RM had while writing this astounds me. When he initially wrote this song it was about missing/longing for a missing friend. However, in 2017 when this song and mv was released the Sewoll Ferry had not been retrieved from the bottom of the sea where it sunk. So in the public eye the parents of lost students had been waiting since April 2014 for their children to be returned. There was 300+ students that were lost only a few were retrieved by divers before the ferry was retrieved in 2017. Initially this song was for a friend missing a friend, then it became a song for a country grieving over a national tragedy, Next it was played during the pandemic to help all countries to grieve the millions that died as well as all seperated from loved ones during pandemic lock downs, and finally for BTS & ARMYS missing each other during the members military enlistment. 💜🙏💜
While I understand what you are trying to say, when it comes to song writing, the phrase "he initially wrote the song about..." does not apply. RM wrote the song about missing/longing for a friend, period. You cannot go back and change the reason you initially wrote a song for. The video may have been about the tragedy but the song was not. ARMY has somewhere along the way just made it about that. I guess it is easier for people to comprehend instead of keeping the two ideals separate, as they should be. 💜

School bus at busan was because 99% of the lives that were lost in the tragedy were high school kids.

The Korean Government let so many children die to "save face" and made the children's families watch as their children drowned during an easily unavoidable event. I promote your content but not sharing the horrific parts of this story in an easily accessible manor is hard for me to comprehend.
