  • These lawsuits claim that many hair relaxers contain chemicals in the "fragrance" or "perfume" portion of the product, that aren't listed as ingredients.

Just wear your hair natural ladies. I used to perm when I was younger and had to stop due to irritation. Love your natural state.❤️

As a black woman from Africa, I say, tackle these negative minsets/attitudes towards your hair (regardless of the origin) within the home and community...

We were forced to get relaxers no one would hirer us with our natural hair. Now the ones that had hysterectomy because you were afraid it would turn into cancer so since we taken safety precautions for our lives to not get cancer we are now kicked out of the lawsuit because you didn’t wait until it turned to cancer.

Similar happened with J&J talc baby powder that’s been around for decades and J&J was sued and knew their product had cancer causing agents

I’ve never used a perm or relaxer in my life and never will. It should be common sense that people research any chemical they put into/on their bodies. If I wanted my hair straight temporarily, I used a flat iron, and although I acknowledge I didn’t use that properly either, I knew it was a much safer alternative to these harsh, dangerous chemicals. I knew way before these studies and lawsuits came out that these hair straightening chemicals were potentially fatal, from the fumes to the ingredients. Now I don’t alter the natural texture of my hair at all and I take much better care of it so it’s much healthier and longer. My parents also refused to perm/relax my hair, thank GOD.

I wish my mom was smart like this it is common sense why would you put a chemical in child’s head ! Just dumb !

You’re right but the good news is that black women who stopped using perms are still able to grow long healthy hair if they take care of it. We have to protest against these companies that are profiting off people’s insecurities and ignorance.

Her cervical cancer could’ve been caused by HPV. A relaxer every 4 weeks is insane!!!!!

Relaxers are not meant to be applied "to the scalp".

They're not applied to the scalp, but rather on new growth.

Yeah me 2 I got dreads now and it won’t be any straightening of nothing I was like the one lady who begged her mom for a perm, I think I got perms for like like 10-15 years but I never did it on a regular routine I would just randomly get perm, now I think I look terrible with straight hair I got to have body and bounce with the ounce

We all really stopped wearing that relaxer years ago. Some people may but it’s not as many. Unfortunately, after our hair was damaged. The video really tells why we started.

Notice they said "straighteners" not relaxers. The reason is because the "straighteners" they speak of are those keratin treatments that are known to contain formaldehyde. Relaxers do not contain those so anyone thinking that the lawsuit will be successful is wrong. The research itself also couldn't prove that it was relaxers causing it. There is a difference between causation and correlation and the science will have to prove causation in order for this to be proven.

Relaxers are not the problem. There are other hair products that have chemicals in it such as shampoos and conditioners. Even skincare products , makeup , lotions, and the water we drink just to name a few... For those that want to keep relaxing their hair, just base your whole scalp properly so it won't get on your skin. Problem solved.
