- Hello, my name is Shelby and I am a potter based in Victoria, Australia.
In this vlog, I pack up and get ready for Sydney, I make it to the market, I end up on live national TV, I come home and unpack and do a recap of the year of 2023 as a small pottery business.
Throughout this video I take you behind the scenes of all parts of the process with lots of Timelapse's. The Timelapse's make it a little easier to keep focused on the work at hand whilst being able to show you what I am up too.
I hope you like these videos as a little something different whilst I prepare and I will have my regular goodness back soon once I get through some of this work!

More native Australian animal mugs. If you can get a Tazmanian Devil and a Kangaroo mug. If you can either design or find a kangaroo mug with a little pouch where you can put your tea bag, this would be fantastic.
My husband would have loved the sunflower mug and sunface(ornaments?). They caught my eye. When I see those two things always think of him. He passed away from cancer at 43 yrs young when our son was 4 yrs old. That was 25 yrs ago last December 21st. Seeing those two as you were packing the kiln put a smile on my face for those two things he loved. Even how some wildflowers are just that, but not to me, because they were favorites of his. Your art, creations are powerful as well as beautiful. Thank you! 🌞🌻😊❤

Oh, Shelby, I'm an after-hours travel agent, and we've had a lot of this lately. It's terrible that you missed that opportunity.
Can i ask what makes an "after-hours" travel agent different than a regular travel agent? Just curious:)
They're available by phone and online outside the 9-5 workday.
If you watch the entire video, you’ll see that she did manage to be re-booked on that national morning tv show (just at a less convenient time for her, it seemed). So I suppose all’s well that ends well. 😊
I’m a knitter, crocheter and pattern designer, and I make to sell and you and your art inspire me. Your aesthetic and colors and your enthusiasm just inspires me every time I see a reel or video you’ve done it just gives me a little boost. ❤ it’s amazing to see all the people who are appreciating handmade and artisan goods it gives me hope that my business will take off like yours has.

You do SO much work. Like so so much! Between preparing, shipping, advertising, filming/editing, and the business end of things, not to mention the ACTUAL art creating! It’s incredible how much goes into your craft!

Shelby out of curiosity what do your assistants do for you? I assume it's things like pouring moulds, final glazing and you personally take care of painting the actual designs on the pieces.

This year, as an artist myself, I wanted to find other RUclipsrs who weren’t working in my medium at all. I didn’t want to be in a vacuum chamber of other fiber artists (or fiber adjacent Lol). Your channel was the first one that came up when I started entering random media such as lampworking, glassblowing, pottery, bookbinding, printmaking, etc. I subscribed immediately! The fact you’re in Australia (I’m in the US) was even more of a reason, because I love a lot of the smocking (a type of pleated and hand embroidered fabric on dresses) and embroidery styles that come from there. The color palette you use is so radically different than my own that I will likely challenge myself to make a quilt with a similar color palette to your signature pieces. I’m excited to see what’s in your future! My years of art shows and gallery work are long past me, but I love to cheer for the ones that are just getting started! You rock!

My favourite moment of 2023 was finally going to weekly pottery classes 💜 I went and did a taster throw a pot session here in the UK in mid August (well did two in a row) to see how I got on with it and loved it, and signed up for classes a month later and haven't looked back since.
And just in case you do get to see this Shelby, please know you're one of the potters who inspired me to give it a go 💜So thank you, and I wish 2024 brings you even more wonder, joy, fun, unique experiences, creative opportunities and that this all just continues to keep growing for you off the back of all the hard work you and your team have been putting in, you deserve all the good things.
