I’m currently acquiring a 2002 Volkswagen Passat (affectionately named Danyell) that has been sitting since 2018 and she has basically all her mechanical components but no battery and 4 year old fluids
Some ppl say not to let the car idle but I disagree. I let it idle until the rpm come down by itself. Than I just keep it under 3K rpm until it’s fully warmed up.
I always let my car ride until you can hear the oil pump kick down after it's all circulated. There's no way in hell all that transmission fluid has ran through a cycle, by the time you slam it in the drive.
Depending on how long it's been sitting, I'd remove the sparkplugs and spray a little fogging oil. All of the oil could've drained into the pan and this will help with the initial start.
Good video, man. Straight to the point, everyone want's that lol. I have a car that's been sitting for about a year, without running at all. It's probably no good by now.
Yes, absolutely agree. Our other family car was not used for over a year. Already replaced the other battery but forgot to disconnect it. These are helpful steps as we need to know before getting things going again.
my parents gave me their 2010 honda civic, it has been sitting away for about 6 months, the battery I suspect is completely dead. Power windows don't work, key doesn't work for the car and when I put the keys into the ignition nothing light up or makes any sound. Should I replace the whole battery or try to jump start it with another car? Thanks !
Lol why would you replace a perfectly good battery? Gotta try charging it first, either through another car or just jump start and let your alternator do it
I'm going to check out a used car that's been sitting for several months and intend on checking all these things plus more. It's a 97 Buick Lesabre. I've heard good things about the engine and it has 90k so hopefully will be worth the low price.
man ive left my ml 63 amg sitting in my garage for 11 months while im overseas i havent had anyone start it or drive it and I know i didnt top up the gas before i parked it , is my vehicle gonna be screwed im worried
Unless it's ethanol free it's better to leave it with no gas, but you do definitely want to hire someone to take it for a spin. Cars, especially nice cars, hate sitting around doing nothing or shit starts to get gunked up. When you get back either way do all this simple shit in the vid, and I would go ahead and do full oil and coolant refresh and take a good close look at your rotors, they may need a resurfacing
So I've got a car that's been sitting about 3 years. A year ago it got a new battery and it did start but then was ignored for another year. Do you thi k I have to replace the battery?
Hey my 2017 Hyundai accent will have sat for my 6 month deployment. I'm afraid it won't work or start when I get back. What should I do first besides changing the battery?
Hey mate. Got a beemer that's been sitting for a couple months. Got a buyer coming to buy this week. Fired up it after a couple weeks, however has a petrol smell. Checked for leaks, no signs or drops on floor. Any idea what it could be? In 3 months I haven't drivin anywhere but turned it on a couple times a month.
+anil2 We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
@@1AAuto yeah sure, didn't think anyone could without looking, but maybe someone may know what it is. The smells went away after 10 mins. Think il take it for a proper drive tomorow and make sure its all good.
+Vignesh Kumar Thanks for watching! Possibly, but once you get all the stale gas out and make sure your fluids are good it should not affect overall performance.
Also, I would disconnect the battery negative terminal, or take the battery off from my car at first, and then recharge it at an open place for safety.
Hi I need some help. left my car for a month siting on tall grass wen i start it up and drive the steering wheel fell very heavy. I cheeked steering fluid and i have the right level. I thin something is rusted and i dont know what. Do you gays have any idea?

A new Toyota Corolla 2012 ( 150 miles) on it. They just changed the oil and tranny oil. 100% tranny oil!?? What? That tells me something fishy. Tail pipe not plugged? No clue. Rodents got in there maybe don't know. Hmm how far can a rodent get and crap a nest in a piston? Could of been in a spotless garage. But I'd be buying something bad they ain't telling, just "as is". 9 years storage? Rusty cylinders? Not a clue. I'm not buying it.

My car has been sitting for a year, changed the battery but the car wouldn't move. I was told my brakes must be locked... Bmw, 3 series......
My civic has been sitting for a year, when I heard the word “week” I nearly spat out my water
Started the Honda other day, sat for 3 years...Thats big news not a week..lol

Get a battery charger and keep your battery charged. Simple as that!
Some ppl say not to let the car idle but I disagree. I let it idle until the rpm come down by itself. Than I just keep it under 3K rpm until it’s fully warmed up.
Enjoy your carbon buildup.

i have a vehicle that's been sitting in my garage for 3 to 4 years and now i'm thinking about selling or scrapping it.
Sell it first to see if anyone out there wants to buy it I bought my 01 cl-s for 1k and it sat in someone’s front yard for 2 years

+Joshua The Science god You can certainly try to jump start it first and if that does not last then replace the battery.
I’m in the same situation but it’s a 2003 Honda civic

My suv been shop for 3 months I had to replace my engine. I gotta keep starting it up

How'd it go? Did you get the Buik?
Best engine of all time 3.8
How about resetting codes on crosstrek

My car sat for three months. Should I have it towed take to my mechanic? What should I expect from my car being idle for this amount of time?
Would u suggest to coat the cylinder walls after sitting for a year🤔
My car sitting for 2.years.
What is first thing I should do to start the car ?
I have a Subaru WRX STI 2019 do i have to spray fogging oil in the cylinders?
My car sitting at dealership I drove the car to inspection station and it failed the test. Any suggestions?

Really good video! My coolant is brown from sitting for years. Can I add the proper coolant or MUST it be flushed?
Flush it ....it's for the best
would the oil and cooling leak be permanently

What if car sat for 8 months. Does it affect perfomance n mileage of the car ??
+Vignesh Kumar Thanks for watching! Possibly, but once you get all the stale gas out and make sure your fluids are good it should not affect overall performance.
I would have started with the tire pressure. That's the most critical.
If the car does not start tire pressure is not that important. A dead battery makes a car a paperweight.
Also, I would disconnect the battery negative terminal, or take the battery off from my car at first, and then recharge it at an open place for safety.
Want to know if a vehicle has sat a while? Check the brake rotors if they rusty the cars been sitting if there's shiny cars been driving around...
Great tips thank you
