    "Big shout out to Renick Performance for letting me shit all over this car" -Matt Farah

    • @ChrisDorgan
      @ChrisDorgan 8 лет назад +73

      At the end of the day... they've got a useless wing, ruined the ride for day to day and didn't change out the weak link (gearbox) really they need to go back to the drawing board in order to actually achieve anything remotely more substantial under the skin!

    • @Robby94LS
      @Robby94LS 8 лет назад +71

      I used to criticize Matt for shitting all over owners for personal builds so I understand where you're coming from. (and idk if I've just learned his personality better but I feel he's much better now.) However..... I APPRECIATE him shitting on SHOP builds.... I'd be PISSED if I turned a car in for a package build that cost as much as another car in some cases and it came back under my expectations. Shops need the criticism otherwise they never will improve dog shit, they'll just keep selling it at an astronomical rate. If he were being this hard on someone's PERSONAL ATS, yeah I'd be on board, but I think this is a great review that's probably going to help people deciding on patronizing Renick!

      I mean, who the fuck gets an ATS-V with its shitty torque converter automatic for a track build? That would NOT be in its element on track.

  • @vernonprice5986
    @vernonprice5986 8 лет назад +65

    FYI, the ATS-V starts at $60k. And then all you really need to do is intake, downpipes and a tune and you're good for 500+ at the wheels while still feeling basically stock, which is a good thing.

Well done Matt.

  • @85patino

    As someone who has followed Matt and TST for a number of years now this has to be one of the most comprehensive and honest reviews of a car that out of the box was never intended to become a track beast, as he said in the video one might reconsider tuning a car well into real sports car territory. But to each its own and in no way would I not love to hoon around in this but for the price a well sorted factory 911 might just be the better track car.

    Why would you delete the pipe valve? Surely it would be better to have it quiet sometimes?

    • @theguy1224
      @theguy1224 6 лет назад

      Because GM designed the valves to close, even partially in track mode (which is the most extreme exhaust setting). That's why most people with the NPP exhaust pull the fuse, so it stays open. But even then there's minor flaws to that. So that's why the owner/builder decided to just remove the mechanism all together.
      And yes the ATS-V sounds terrible. Almost as bad as the E46 M3's. As well as the M4's. Terrible sounding cars.

      It may not look like something big, but having a film background even the smallest of productions can cost thousands and thousands of dollars. You need to hire a team (because that is not a one or two person job), then you need to rent the equipment (because no one has a $60,000 camera and an array of lenses for it just lying around), etc. It adds up and before you know it a youtube video will cost $10,000 to produce.

    So, Matt. When you do a bruuuutally honest review of a car like this one where you just BLAST the whole concept does it:
    A. Make the builder want to try harder, work on the concept, and have you test it again?
    B. Make the builder super pissed and never talk to you again?
    C. Make the builder just nod their head, because they know they kinda messed up, and hold their head down in shame?

      I think I’d keep all the suspension stock and some simple bolt ons, I wouldn’t be tracking the car though. That transmission does seem sluggish

    Weapon X Motorsports has solved the exhaust problem. Not only does it not sound bad, it sounds great.

    What ever happened to that D3 modified 2.0T ATS you drove on the track? The one with the hood propped up for cooling since it was running so hot. I want to see the finished version of that prototype. See if they will let you have another go at it. Or a 2.0T Camaro with the same 400-500 hp that Caddy was pushing.

    This video exemplifies why I like Matt as a reviewer, even though I don't agree with him on a lot of things (e.g. I prefer revs to torque and want steering to be as slow as possible short of needing to cross over my hands)-- he has actual opinions. Too many "reviewers" say everything is great all the time, which it clearly isn't.

    What is your camera and mic setup when you make these videos? I always assumed the in car footage was from a DSLR or something similar. In this video it looks like a GoPro Hero 5 Black with some sort of external mic recorder. Just curious what it is and where you got it. Thanks for the sweet videos!

    Wow - Probably clicked on hundreds of these 1 takes, generally only make it all the way through the cars I'm really interested in or the truly interesting cars people bring. I can almost line for line predict what Matt is going to say about everything. Except this one, this seems like it was the first video Matt just said "f**k it, I'm going to tell them exactly what I think". I couldn't stop laughing at how much he sh*t on this car. Refreshingly honest, good job!

    at first I thought he was just bashing that transmission, because he just drove a couple incredible ones.. hearing this video is proof enough that this car needs an updated trans.. that one downshift that took 3 pulls and about 8 seconds... whoa :(

    You are absolutely right. It doesn't make sense to take a $75,000 car and put so many performance modifications into it that not only kill the refinements intentionally built into the car but also make it so expensive you could've just bought a far more well-built Porsche 911. It makes no sense at all...
    ...but what the hell kind of crappy world would we be living in if guys never just looked at something and were like, "Does it make sense? Nope. Should we do it anyway? Hell yeah!"
    It's a 520 HP Cadillac with a wing the size of a fucking condor! It doesn't need to make sense, it's FUN!

    Love my ATSV. It isn't a track car so I don't compare it as such. It is a wonderful DD and these company's need to stop screwing with the stock sound. It is fine, deep and rumbly. This exhaust and others turn it into a raspy mess. The aero is god awful should have been left alone. Oh yeah and BTW before you comment that I am just saying this because I own one, my weekend car is a 991 Turbo. Don't hate the V until you actually drive a stock one. This video kills the V or should I say Renick killed the V.
