For breakfast? When I lived in Turkey for 2 years, this was served ahead of nearly every meal. Sometimes, though, it was thicker and good for melted butter and fruit spreads and jams.

It may take some practice to roll out the dough the way the poster did, but when I made French bread the first time successfully, I was so happy. My mom and I had tried to bake bread many years before, I called out to her that I had made bread! She had passed away several years before. It takes practice to knead, roll out bread and so many other things, but if you don't try, you won't have delicious bread. You don't have to have the expertise of this person, just do your best. Roll out the dough to the best of your ability.

Its not that hard.. but a lot of work. I could even do it on a shaky camping table in a parking lot where a baker, that does not speak the same language as i do, teached it to me.

We only roll the tortilla out once, no butter basted onto tortilla, use lard instead, I think baking soda, and onto griddle!

I love how all of us are commenting on what old family dish this reminds us of even though we likely come from all over the world. For example, the thumbnail and opening clip of it being torn apart reminded me of Guyanese roti. Then you remember that all throughout history cultures have been making their own versions of flat bread with the same basic ingredients.

We call these flour tortillas here in Texas. My favorite. But none of the rolling out and spiraling....just roll out and flop on the griddle! Hot butter and you're good to go!

The rolling out creates many layers and the texture turns out so different than a tortilla that is only rolled out once. I've seen many different cultures making the same bread product but they are called by different names. They could be used for tortillas if you want to.

    Miam !!

Wonderful video, momma made it this way too but she’s no longer here with me....this made me miss her so very much and such sweet and hard work she put into loving me.It’s seeing things like this that reminds me of all the questions I never asked....like the temperature of her water🤷‍♀️😂oh the craziness of my love and respect for her is beyond the normal because see my beautiful momma was a paraplegic and wheelchair bound long before I was born and well my daddy passed away the weekend he retired when I was just turning 14 so I became mom for my momma. It was always me and momma against the world it seemed. With no money left I too young to have a job we survived on this very bread recipe 🥰So much time has since passed by ,see I’m 50 now and yes momma stayed with me until I lost her 3 years ago.....we raised my four children together and lots of grandkids (her great grandkids) and gosh darn it ...I still never asked her the temperature of her water she used for so many long hard months through the winters of making this beautiful bread to sustain our lives so I too could grow up to have children of my own. Momma wasn’t sick when she passed, she still had her mind right but she was tired.....she just went to sleep to be with daddy and raise my baby sister that was born a little too soon and my older sister that passed in her car accident at 2 years old. I’m sorry for rambling on but if anyone reads this...ask the questions even if they seems so nonessential, learn as much as you can before you can’t ask. Thank you for this beautiful memory

If you add just a little bit of baking powder and some lard or vegetable oil, this is how you would make flour tortillas. You just mix all dry ingredients first, then fold in the lard or oil by hand and then add very warm water as needed. The warm water helps the lard blend with the dough easier.
