After seeing an Anderton's video, the new '59 with CustomBuckers sounded much better than the 2020 model - £1200 though...
I’ve just purchased a couple of burstbuckers from America used to put in my 2016 hp les Paul traditional. Burst buckers in my epi 59 I agree sound better than the 57s in my traditional.
As Dave Friedman says "if it sounds too bright or dark or whatever, you can always turn the knobs on your amp". Although I would say there is 'something' about a Gibson that feels different/better. I've had all levels, tribute, studio, standard, classic. I kept the classic but put Suhr Thornbuckers in it. Only eastman can match in my experience. Verve & enthusiasm. Spot on John

Just acquired a casino Epi, $499. Love it. In truth i never played am electric Gibson. Note; my brother had a Gibson SG Bass, what a lovely and playable piece of beauty. Oh, yes, the Epi body is huge and sounds like a drum unplugged. That dog is adorable.
Hi John, I could never have told them apart before the reveal. When I get my next guitar which will most likely be my last my heart is saying Gibson, but the head says an Epiphone would do just fine.You've got to stop doing this to me :)
Both sound great! Can't tell the difference! The difference will have to be in how they feel to play.
Hi John, highly informative as ever. I've got a 2021 Epi 50s Lp but have played Gibbos. To my ears, I never hear a great deal of difference when we're talking about the same set of PUPs. But my Epi has a set of SD Pearly Gates (cost almost the same amount as the guitar) and the difference between those and the stock Epi ProBuckers was significant. Nevertheless, as I commented on your video earlier this month about Epiphone prices, Gibson is an aspirational brand and I hope to own one in the future even though I do love my Epi. All the best
Oops. I forgot to listen intently. Too busy enjoying Dougal. But there wasnt any noticeable change when cutting between the two, for me. Even in the later no-dougal reveal when I was less distracted.
In before the reveal - I couldn't tell the difference. So I put on my best set of headphones and...still couldn't tell the difference. That's a win for the Epi in my book.
Really struggling to hear the difference! Can understand what you said about nitro v poly though.
Glad I’m not a betting man - clear difference to my ears and my money would have gone west! Preferred #2 and was convinced it was the Gibson - to my ears it had something else behind the tone, which I put down to higher quality woods and hardware.
Something else that surprised me was the pickup readings on the Tribute - is the neck really hotter than the bridge? That seems strange 🤔
Fun apples vs apples comparison, Gibby BB2,3 vs Epi BB2,3. I felt on first listen that the 2nd guitar was a little less defined than No1. Upon seeing that No2 was the Epi, I guess the 'alive and fizzing' of the Gibby means the overtones are getting through while the Epi mutes them somewhat. Either way I like Burstbuckers (1,2,3,Custom) but still need to get a guitar I can drop them into. Nice to see Dougal in all his postures.
I currently have an Epiphone 59 for sale because I gave myself my dream guitar for my 50th birthday. A Gibson Les Paul Std. I chose a 60s because I think I prefer the thinner neck despite my large hands. But I can't fault the 59, it's probably the best value on the market. And honestly while playing I never thought about the logo on the headstock…
This is one where I gave up during the video and started to just watch the nice photos of Doogle. I can often get these right but there was just no difference here. Does this mean you don't need both? Sounds like the Epiphone will move on to make way for a different sound.

What a handsome pup. Likes his ball and comfort! Bigger than I had imagined. Is he a lab cross? As for the guitars hard to tell the difference. But if one feels better and has the sound, that has to be THE ONE!

I got the $2000 Epiphone Korina V, and every time I see a comment about the prices being too high I think "these people are fools"
That is one big dog.....And I guessed wrong, as usual. i heard a difference, but only in the very first part of that nice piece of music.
Those guitars are nice, but the dog stole the show! You seem to have quite a Guitar-Go-Round there! 😂 So far, I think that Gibson Les Paul has lasted the longest of ANY guitar I’ve seen you play.

John does a fantastic job recording and mixing his guitar parts. Reminds me of 70s classic rock and Def Leppard's High and dry album.
John is a fantastic guitar player I just can't understand why the sound is always like it is recorded on a old tape player it's not my phone its the same on TV listen to any other channel and there's sounds clear with volume and clarity I thought it was my phone but it isn't
@@alanjackman2296 That's fine, it's your opinion. There's plenty other channels out there with a lot worse sound but they're all providing content no matter the quality, which is what it's all really about at the end of the day.
Whatever the sound differences, that Tribute looks gorgeous.

Are the Gibson pick ups in the wrong way round?
No, they're labelled & the pole spacing for bridge & neck is different if you look closely.
Nope, could hear no difference which isn't surprising as both sets of pickups are the same. Despite what some say, I'd say you'd struggle to hear a difference if you fitted a Strat with these pickups and did a comparison with either Les Paul. Now with 2 different amps they would sound very different.
