    Nice review mate! I’ve had my PRS SE 594 since April, and it’s become my favourite electric. Even though I’ve had a Gibson Les Paul and an American Strat, in terms of quality out of the box, this guitar is the best I’ve ever played. Just so well built and resonant, and one of the best necks I’ve ever played!

    I'm fed up with hearing a lot of people saying that PRS guitars are soulless, that's just bullshit. They have their own sound, and most people could tell you what guitar it was if they didn't see it? I love my PRS customs, and I have some Gibson's, and high end Fender's, and my PRS's are the best sounding, and playing guitars I own!

    Still got my Trementi SE from about 2006 - not my absolute favourite guitar but it's plays brilliantly and does the 'rock thing' fantastically well. Wouldn't part with it BUT if I did, it might be for one of these.

    I'm not a major fan of PRS but you have to say that sustains really well when under load. All the versatility you need in a guitar and it could easily do the job in somebody's main gigging rig. Not that keen on the clean sound which sounds a bit thin to my admittedly poor old abused ears.

    Hey John, great review and nice playing.
    Just one question...i own 3 harley benton cst-24t (selected from a bunch of 15 guitars). They all play like butter and all three have tonerider pups + cts and swichtcraft electronics.
    Do you think it's worth the money to have one of thoses or shall i save a little bit more and go for a more expensive instrument.
    I mean....will i notice a good improvement with these compared to the cst24?....
    Thanks

    The colour of a guitar doesn't matter unless you're wearing the wrong shirt. A clash would never do. 😊

    I really dislike that oxidized copper color. I couldnt find the red or grey in stock anywhere, then ran into a special on the sandblasted swamp ash ce24 and went with the red they had. What a truly wonderful machine it is. The fit/finish is spectacular and it plays like a dream. It has quickly become my favorite. I did put a set of black locking tuners on it, and it may eventually get a set of pickups, but i am just going to play the guts out of it for now. Lol

    I fancied a PRS for years but just wasn't prepared to spend that kind of money considering I have quite a few other guitars that do excellent jobs that they specifically sound related to LPs Strats ect so a PRS was only ever going to be an expensive curiosity that I didn't need..Tried the SE range and found them to be just not quite right..then I came across Harley Bentons CST24T which I thought I'd buy purely because of the price and see what it's like. It was great right out of the box for £230 . I have since upgraded it with quality pots caps switches and pickups tuners..it's wipes the floor with an SE range and it's still under the price of the SE and I'd argue it's a better guitar..so much so I bought another..they are really that good and lend themselves to being customised to your particular taste for less.

    Yes, the colour of the green PRS is very similar to Cuprinol Forest Green Shed & Fence Treatment. I always think it looks like they gave it a coat of that haha. Still a great guitar, but I much prefer the new one

    Looks like a classic PRS for a sweet price.Over here in Canada, Long and McQuade have the satins for $799CAD. Two years ago, I could have gotten the SE for that.

    Sounds pretty good to me! I like Humbuckers & Single Coil . . . depends on the song, and it looks like PRS are doing a good job of offering a bit of both. I bought the SE Custom 24-08 a coupla years ago and like it a lot. Great 'back up' or Swiss Army Knife for gigging IMO if you don't want to traipse around with a Les Paul, Strat in tow.

    Do you think it’ll handle drop tunings like drop A# with a proper set up and hold its own for heavy metal-hard rock- like tones?

    • @JRobsonGuitar
      @JRobsonGuitar  Месяц назад +2

      That might be a bit of a stretch. You're probably better off looking at some kind of multi scale instrument for tuning that low.

      @@JRobsonGuitar thanks for the insight. My luthier said he could try to recut the nut and set it up with .10-.60 strings. So, we’ll see. In terms of pickups, do you think they’re acceptable for heavy genres? I haven’t had a chance to play one that’s why I’m curious.

    John, The BACK of that guitar looks better than the front ! (well the later shots show the flamey -stripey) Yeah PRS SE...I have bought my share. The are good guitars
    HOWEVER ... despite their not a discount price (only if compared to insane PRS Core models) There are must perform mods
    First ... PRS SE locking Tuners. Look cool, install easy ... But like most PRS ...are overpriced (but damm !)
    Then the not so obvious... But meaningful mod... Is the John Mann SE Trim Bridge. Solid Brass. Finely Machined. So sexy. it should have its own un-boxing video!
    Not cheap ($250+ US) ... but vastly improves the sound of any PRS SE you can put it in. Do the bridge ... Before pick ups ...
    Easy to install (I'm a kunck ... and I did mine !)
    PS ... I like the Birds !!! :)

    I went to see Deep Purple last weekend and Simon McBride played PRS guitars exclusively. He seemed quite adept at replicating the old Purple sound with his guitars quite well. Great player and show BTW. My latest buy was a Revstar element and I really like the neck on that guitar. How does it compare to this PRS, if you recall? Anyways, I dig the tones that you and Simon have been able to get out of a PRS, and I think my next guitar will either be one of these or the Revstar with the P90’s.

    • @JRobsonGuitar
      @JRobsonGuitar  2 месяца назад +2

      Interesting... I prefer a low output (or "vintage") pickup as I find it responds more dynamically. If I want to drive the amp harder, well that's what pedals are for. The one thing I do notice about PRS pickups (both SE & USA models) is I have to use the tone control to tame the top end a bit. I find them quite "toppy" sounding. Still, I'd rather have those frequencies there and dial them back a bit rather than having a guitar which sounds too dark.
