Suda51 was probably at his most consistent/w releases during the PS3 era. Giving us notable cult classics such as Shadows of the Damned, Lolipop Chainsaw, porting NMH1 as Heroes' Paradise, Killer is Dead, and Sine Mora. But even more criminally underrated is Short Peace: Ranko Tsukigime's Longest Day. A fast pace side scroller with more hilarious WTFs than levels, and delivers a unique sense of creepiness at times. It's the most Suda51 thing since Killer7, and if you're wondering why No More Heroes 3 had those weird Anime art style cut scenes. This title was its homage point.
I bought a second PS3 for 5€ and repaired it myself then got 2 copies of Inversion (1€ each) and now I'm playing the campaign with my brother in Coop mode through LAN with an ethernet cable connecting both consoles. The game isn't ground breaking or anything but it support LAN campaign and that makes the gameplay so much more enjoyable.
Some of these games I've never heard of so it's great that you do these kind of vids. I love my PS3 & 'Inversion' I just picked up from Ebay. Never heard of it or seen it but in you're short clip I know it will be up my alley. Thankyou.
Inversion _might_ still have LAN-tunneling players via XLink Kai. Would likely want to check their Discord to set up a worthwhile engagement. My eyes have certainly panned its direction now due to my introduction here in the vid
Might I recommend Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. This was from Ninja Theory and had Andy Serkis in it. Never really hear anyone talk about this game. Worth a check into.
01. Inversion 02. Twisted Metal 03. Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom 04. Homefront 05. Knights Contract 06. Siren: Blood Curse 07. Tales of Graces f 08. Yakuza: Dead Souls 09. The Last Guy 10. Killer Is Dead
Glad to see Twisted Metal on PS3 get some love. Wasn't the most ideal Twisted Metal in the series but it was a blast regardless. The online multiplayer was one of the few I put serious time into.
It was in development hell for quite a while. There were two cancelled Twisted Metal games by the studio that made TM (PS3) before that didnt make it past the alpha stage. There was also Harbor City which was intended to be a large open world game on the PS2 which got cancelled. Twisted Metal Black on the PS2 was meant to be even darker and more unsettling but the company making the games then (different from PS3 TM) was told to tone it down. Unfortunate because we could have gotten a much more thrilling series entirely if all those story aspects got explored. Before PS2, Twisted Metal was not that serious of a game and its most shocking part was the game's endings. On PS3 they had a sliver of hope but unfortunately Sony completely gave up on it along with inFamous, Jak, Ratchet and Clank, etc.
I shouted YES when Tales of Graces F was mentioned. I was so excited to see the Tales of series coming back to the west after something of a dry spell that I had to support it, and I wasn't disappointed! The characters have so much charm that it kept me going, and the combat system is among my favorites in any RPG. I liked it enough to go for a Platinum trophy. The Future arc expanded on enough that it made the entire game felt complete. My only complaint was that it took me a while to get used to playing other Tales games with how different their combat systems are, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing! Can't forget the skits! Crablettes! INSTANT BALLS! And probably some other stuff. Thank you for including Graces F on this list.
Instant balls! 😂 Even after finding out what he was really saying, all I could hear was "instant balls." I always liked how Sophie, I think her name was, said "y'okay!"
Glad to see Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom receive recognition. It was the second PS3 game I played, and I enjoyed it thoroughly from beginning to end. ... and I get the sense that it may have inspired the upcoming Kirby and the Forgotten Land, if only in name.
Majin is quite underrated. A remaster that smooths out some rough edges could really make it stand out. Although the quality dips towards the end, possibly due to budget constraints, it doesn't detract from the game's overall appeal, thanks to its solid concept, engaging gameplay, and the developers' evident passion.
Wait up, mate. A Yakuza zombie game?!! I sadly sold my ps3 when I moved from abroad without knowing about this (can't carry everything) but I might have to find a solution for playing. Thank you for alerting me to it. My day is made.
You made another great list of criminally underrated PS3 games, I do own Yakuza Dead souls and I'm glad it made your list, I know it's not the best game in the Yakuza series, but it's just plain fun killing zombies with Kazuma and Goro, thanks for making another good criminally underated PS3 game list TVGS nice job ✌️
The Ending of Inversion was a fist in my face, and makes so much good. one of the best endings i ever saw. Other underrated games: Splitsecond Race the Sun
Big agree with Splitsecond... it was also great because it was pretty much the only racer on the system that did split-screen play... so you could compete against a friend on the couch. Underrated gem, for sure!
The entire Tales series is criminally underrated. The PS3 titles are some of the best. Graces F has fun combat, Xillia 1 & 2 have great stories, and Symphonia HD is such a classic.
I love seeing a notification saying you've posted a new video. I know I'm gonna find out about more awesome games I've never heard of before ☺️ love your channel my man! 🤘🤘👍👍
The modern Twisted Metal is honestly one of the best in the series, especially game play wise. It controls better and doesn't look ugly as sin. Twisted Metal Black while unhinged is brutally punishing and frustrating most of the time. Same with the first two, just not as extreme.
I really liked Homefront. It was a poor man's Call of Duty, but I thought it had enough of its own ideas to be its own thing. I have a soft spot for cover based shooters like Inversion. They didn't really do much and I can understand the backlash they have received, but it was the style at the time.
I had fun with it as well though if I had paid anything close to full price for it I would probably be less forgiving since I very rarely play FPS games in multiplayer. I picked it up for $15 from a bargain bin in I believe either December 2011 or January or February 2012. I didn't get my PS3 until November 2011 but left for a family road trip soon after and didn't get back until Christmas Eve. I'm pretty sure I got Homefront after getting home but before the one year anniversary though it might have been one of the few PS3 games I got before the trip. Edit: Checking my trophies it looks like I got the game before, or perhaps during the road trip, played a couple of chapters right after I got back then set the game aside and restarted or finished it almost a year later because I beat the first two chapters Dec 26 2011 but didn't beat the rest of the game until October 2012. I got several games before or during that trip so I was probably playing the early sections of the games I had never played before to sort out a priority order.
How well does Inversion system-link/LAN/LAN-tunneling hold up? Homefront, if picked up cheap, would be worth the online MP when equipping family and friends with it. How does its online play hold up to today's expectations (when populated)?
Not sure if you’ve featured it on the show before but PixelJunk Shooter 1 & 2 are great PS3 games with super fun fluid physics and a mix of a puzzle platformer with top down twin stick shooter.
Twisted Metal on PS3 had so much potential, gameplay was super fun and the presentation was great, it could have ended up being the best in the series and spawn many more games, but sadly the game was so heavily rushed it released as a very noticably unfinished product. It's a damn shame, I really enjoyed it when it came out, but I wish it had more time in development cause it just falls short in so many places.
Solid picks and some ive never heard off. Going to have to check out homefront. Short shooters that can be finished in one sitting are just about right nowadays. I liked the story in killer is dead, its really far out there but so creative
Tales of Graces f shines the best with it's battle system: the Style Shift Linear Motion Battle System. Developed by Team Destiny from Namco Tales Studio, this is a more developed iteration of their previous games, starting with Tales of Destiny 2 (not Eternia, which got localized as Tales of Destiny II in roman numerals) where they made use of fast paced combat that incentivizes combos, which is why they made away with the basic TP(MP) system that Team Symphonia used for Tales of Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, etc. It's been a while since I played this game, so I'm a little iffy on what I say here so any help with clarifying the gameplay is appreciated. So what makes this battle system interesting is that each character has their own two styles to fight where A artes handle basic combo racking that's mostly physical and are faster to execute but it's relegated to an arte tree that can't be mapped to any joystick while B is more slower to execute but deals a good amount of damage and joystick mapping is fully customizable. To me, B artes are the flashiest artes you will see, the final artes on the A arte tree comes close to that level. Healing and Offensive Magic Artes are located on B artes usually. Alternating between both helps you heal up overtime when in A artes and B artes help give you defense and Iron Stance (I think) and know when to change properly between them because some chatacters A to B is more faster than going B to A and vice versa, or you may get in a lot of trouble if you get staggered, which is super common in this game. Conserve and upgrade both your min and max CC and block often and you'll handle it. I think this is the most I can say about it, it is absolutely one of my favorite games in one of my absolute favorite game series and I'm glad its being showcased here in this video, go give it a try if you can!
Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom is SUCH a sick game! I don't usually care for super slow games like that, but damn it surprised me. Kinda reminds me of The Last Guardian in a way. Really need to finish Tales of Graces one day. Good game, but dropped it due to... me not liking a few things, I guess you could say. Killer is Dead is also a VERY good game. One of the most stylish hack n slashes out there tbh, and personally like it more than No More Heroes (same devs)... Well, at least gameplay wise.
My comment after the video has ended. Now seriously though I was not expecting you to show some love to Homefront. I played both the first and the second one and enjoyed both. I wish it got what it deserved, a bigger budget and more time in the oven
Man I only hear good things about Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, but now is insanely expensive, too bad I didn't get a copy back when nobody knows that even exist
Yakuza dead souls is a good game. Never understood the complaints.. idk if you have mentioned it already, a Capcom game named Dark void. One the flew under the radar at the time it got released
Wonderful picks! Thanks for the video. Here are a couple more underrated PS3 games you could include in part #3, or #4 or #5: Aegis of Earth Lord of the Rings: War in the North Mayhem Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes Sega Rally Revo
while personally I think twisted metal black was the best, twisted metal ps3 was great fun, and I always loved some of the boss fights and interactivity with the levels
Some of these have console-link/LAN and, therfore, LAN-tunneled multiplayer and/or online multiplayer.... Which one(s) are worth their acquisition if not also are a highlight for those MP gameplay option(s) if friends, family and myself go in on the software to equip our PS3s and add to the player count?
It has been almost 10 years since i've last played Knighs Contract, so my mind would probably change if i played it today. However, i remember getting pretty frustrated with it (no, never finished it), mainly because of the out of nowehere QTEs. But hey, at least it wasnt as bad as "Never Dead" (different reason tho). Anything from Suda51 is niche and basically underrated................maybe outside of No More Heroes. Thats the appeal to his stuff, he doesnt make games for the major audience, never did and probably never will. Lollipop Chainsaw, Killer is Dead, Shadows of the Damned, Killer7, Sine Mora, Silver Case, Ranko Tsukigime, Michigan: Report From Hell,.....take your pick. Similar goes for the Ryu Ga Gotoku franchise as well (Yakuza in the west..................and yes, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is in fact Yakuza 7 and should have been titled as such). Now, if you go for suggestions, then i would throw at you (if you havent covered them already): Sengoku Basara 3 (Samurai Heroes in the west, also the last from the franchise to ever being released in the west), 3 Utage, 4 and 4 Sumeragi Alice: Madness Returns House of the Dead Overkill The Darkness F1 Race Stars Asuras Wrath (not really as a game tho, more of an Anime experience) Splatterhouse Ridge Racer 7 Overlord Fairytail Fights Puppeteer Test Drive Unlimited 2 Way of the Samurai Ar Nosurge Eternal Sonata Blur El Shaddai (the contrast to Dante's Inferno)
@@warehousedave7937 He could have done that. But in the end its a rather hard subject (at least i think it is) because what actually qualifies as criminally underrated anyway or what is the distinction between criminally underrated and forgotten (as he also has those kind of videos)? Would the whole "Atelier" J-RPG series be underrated (until Atelier Ryza) because those are very niche games but the whole series is massive? Similar with Earth Defense Force or even Oneechanbara (and yes, i think all of those to be damn good series but as beloved as they should be...........and everybody else might disagree with that). Or are examples like Bulletstorm, Brutal Legends, Shellshock or Resistance the ones that should matter for lists like these? Kinda confused to be honest.
You should check out the Japanese Yakuzas (not sure of the names....ishin or ishiki or something?) They are set in feudal jepan. Very different than the Japanese "mobster" vibe. Very good games, but there's no English translation yet
If you go for the Asian/English version you'll be paying out the nose. But you can always go with the Japanese copy. The menus are pretty easy to navigate without English. As someone who has a copy the price is not worth it now.
@@thatvideogamesshow How do you capture your footage on the PS3? I swear it looks better than what I remember when playing on my PS3 slim. Knights contract is another game I've never heard of, looks interesting. I live in a PAL territory and wish I could buy Siren blood curse for a decent pricw. But it's way too much for what I'm willing to pay for a PS3 game. It's not unaffordable, but just expensive and I'm not sure if it's worth that money. I can get like 5/6 games at a thrift store for that price. (then I have to add shipping as well so say 7 games). Still looking for it, at a good price. Man there's a lot of "tales of... " games. Glad I got killer is dead on Xbox one when there was a backcombat sale. Though I did need to change my region to Nort America and buy a gift card. But in the end it works great on standard region settings. The store does however panic a bit when I look at my games wishlist. The American games say "no longer available". Great video and sorry for the long message.
Question, i have a ps4 and im sharing console, there is already 1 account as primary, if i make my other account primary will i have to get ps plus or will it still be shared
I see Killer is dead as a misopportunity rather than an underated game. The stages were way too short and not exploiting all the potential the gameplay had to offer.
Inversion is a really good game! It is a copy of gears of war done right. The story is full of plot twists and the gameplay is fun. But i recommend to play it on PC because on PS3 the frame rate is terrible
“Killer is Dead” was soooooo good!!! I think it had better story and characters than “No More Heroes” honestly, and MUCH better gameplay than that series! But the “woke” U.S. game journalists probably slammed it hard because of a mini game where you have to try to stare at women’s cleavage or other features without upsetting them. I wasn’t a fan of that when I first heard of the gameplay feature, but when playing, found it to be fun and, more importantly, FUNNY! So, if you guys like Suda 51 and “No More Heroes”, give “Killer is Dead” a try, (it’s also on Steam), it’s really that good.
Man I've heard of all of these due to them being on lists like this, heck I played two of these games recently Homefront and Inversion, both I liked for various reasons, I didn't finish Inversion due to being stuck on a boss, got to the part the plot goes in such a wild and mad direction that hasn't been touched by any games I can recall, wouldn't mind seeing Inversion, heck all the titles on this list getting ReReleases, they all deserve the attention.
The Tales of series is the one that got me back into gaming aroudn the PS3 era, Xillia was the one I was drooling over, but the first I got was Graces F, truly a gem. Too bad the series has hit an all time low with Arise.
Such great games!
Shadows of the Damned was so good. As you can see from my pfp, I'm a big Suda 51 fan
It's always nice to see your videos pop up in my sub box! I'm always looking forward to what you are covering next!
Thanks DGR, I appreciate that man 🙂
Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom is a true example of a "hidden gem".
Even on "underrated/hidden gem" videos, I don't really see it mentioned much. I was starting to think that I was the only one who'd even heard of it.

Tales of Graces F is my favorite Tales of game. The battle system is amazing ! It was a blast to play with 3 friends !
Such a good time!
For real I play the wii verison then this came out blast
These games looks better than nowadays AAA titles at higher resolution 😂😂😂😂
Might I recommend Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. This was from Ninja Theory and had Andy Serkis in it. Never really hear anyone talk about this game. Worth a check into.
Such a great game I never understood why it wasn't more well known .. same with heavenly sword
Awesome game on all fronts!
You might, but he did already showcase that game as part of the first video in this series.
It was recommended in the first video.
In 3D too!
Thanks for pointing out a couple games made by Game Republic. They made some good stuff on PS3 but were largely ignored
It’s not often people tell me about games that are lesser known. Good job 😃

I think despite all the pop-in and frame drops in Inversion, I still think it looks among the most impressive-looking games on the system
I’ll second that, the design is incredible!

I really wish they'd do a HD Port of Dead Souls like they did for all the mainline Yakuza games.
First time ever hearing about that first game "Inversion". It looks pretty cool.
It’s really solid!
Red Alert 3 is another sleeper
FATAL INERTIA, best racing physics
Man I only hear good things about Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, but now is insanely expensive, too bad I didn't get a copy back when nobody knows that even exist
Can you do underrated Wii U games please?
Inversion looks pretty sick, to be honest! And thanks for videos like this! This means MORE hidden gems to hunt for! 😉
It’s really good! A bit rough around the edges but still a respectable shooter.
It's on Steam. It was only a $1 during the recent big sales.
Definitely better than Mindjack. Only play Mindjack for the lols.
Cool love your videos love the intro music as well keep up the good work.
Thanks mate!
Tried playing Inversion on the PC but the game crashes a lot, specially when entering new maps, but it was a fun co-op shooter
Yakuza dead souls is a good game. Never understood the complaints.. idk if you have mentioned it already, a Capcom game named Dark void. One the flew under the radar at the time it got released
Oh yeah Dark Void is pretty solid!
Wonderful picks! Thanks for the video. Here are a couple more underrated PS3 games you could include in part #3, or #4 or #5:
Aegis of Earth
Lord of the Rings: War in the North
Mayhem
Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes
Sega Rally Revo
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the suggestions as well I’ll be sure to check them out 🙂
Love your videos
Thanks Nathan!
while personally I think twisted metal black was the best, twisted metal ps3 was great fun, and I always loved some of the boss fights and interactivity with the levels
I still believe that tales of Graces F to this day has the best combat system in the series
What about Beyond Two Souls?!? That’s criminally underrated in my Mind! 🙄🤨😎
Nice ! Part 3 please !!! 😁😁😁😁😁
In the works! 🙂
How you find games I've never seen before, I'll never know
Majin is fucking masterpiece
Yeeees!
Knights contract seems to be amazing wtf
It’s a really good time!
Now, if you go for suggestions, then i would throw at you (if you havent covered them already):
Sengoku Basara 3 (Samurai Heroes in the west, also the last from the franchise to ever being released in the west), 3 Utage, 4 and 4 Sumeragi
Alice: Madness Returns
House of the Dead Overkill
The Darkness
F1 Race Stars
Asuras Wrath (not really as a game tho, more of an Anime experience)
Splatterhouse
Ridge Racer 7
Overlord
Fairytail Fights
Puppeteer
Test Drive Unlimited 2
Way of the Samurai
Ar Nosurge
Eternal Sonata
Blur
El Shaddai (the contrast to Dante's Inferno)
I have all of these except for knight's contract...
One of this games was Yaiba Ninja Gaiden I really liked it
Again great Video
Thanks Ridvan!
Heyo Jamie doger!
Super sexy list man a lot of these I haven't heard of before 😁
Cheers Gaz! Glad you found something new brother 🙂
Excellent video ty
Thanks for watching Cyber!
So sad majin didn't went better, we'll never have a sequel.
And i don't remember if you talked about Tokyo Jungle, or Papo y Yo.
Deserved much more love!
Love the channel
You should check out the Japanese Yakuzas (not sure of the names....ishin or ishiki or something?) They are set in feudal jepan. Very different than the Japanese "mobster" vibe. Very good games, but there's no English translation yet
Thanks for the tip man!
Wow, the last guy looked really interesting, is there a physical copy of this game?
Thanks for a great video 😊 👍
Yes go to eBay and type in last guy PS3 English . I think the English version is from Korea
@@mariojones6674 thanks 😊👍
If you go for the Asian/English version you'll be paying out the nose. But you can always go with the Japanese copy. The menus are pretty easy to navigate without English. As someone who has a copy the price is not worth it now.
@@Hellblazer1138 thanks bro 😊👍
Never seen or heard of inversion before.
Reminds me of gears of War, but with it's own twist.
For sure, it’s very similar! Well worth giving it a go if you get round to it 🙂
@@thatvideogamesshow How do you capture your footage on the PS3?
Ps3 ❤️
Such a great console!
Homefront was supposed to be the C.O.D. killer. I enjoyed the game along with Homefront 2. They are not bad games if you love games.
I see Killer is dead as a misopportunity rather than an underated game. The stages were way too short and not exploiting all the potential the gameplay had to offer.
I came here wondering if anyone here remembers Outland or Ranbow Moon.
Tekken 2 intro music 😂👍👍
Such a tune!
Hey what was that song at 12:00? It's so familiar I just can't put my finger on it..
HUZZZAH! My memory has nearly failed me. It's Tokyo Xanadu OST - Looking for Clues for future viewers.
Is "The Last Guy" available physically in English?
Inversion looks good 🧐
Inversion is a really good game! It is a copy of gears of war done right. The story is full of plot twists and the gameplay is fun. But i recommend to play it on PC because on PS3 the frame rate is terrible
I’ll second that the PC version is the best way to play it.
Super chanel!!
Homefront is only 4 hours, and game stops when it actually starts being interesting (when counter offensive begins).... not worth the money.
These aren’t bad at all. Killer is dead looks damn amazing
Killer is Dead? NO!
My comment before the video started.
😅
The Tales of series is the one that got me back into gaming aroudn the PS3 era,
Xillia was the one I was drooling over, but the first I got was Graces F, truly a gem.
Too bad the series has hit an all time low with Arise.
