These guys are so ridiculously talented, history is yet to come to grips with their awesomeness.
I should add that my band, Fusebox, was playing the adjacent stage and cut our set short to race over to see Fishbone when we heard them starting their show!
I was at this show on crutches. This cameraman was basically where we were but I never found us. Interestingly a couple decades later played a few shows with Angelo. What a great day. . . Thx camera man, SIU and all the peeps in the crowd. Fishbone killed it as usual.
Cool Show! These guys inspired me a lot! I wanted to go to this show but my band, NIL8, had a show the same day.
After all these years and so many shows, I still think this is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen!
I was there! Best Spring Fest ever! Guitar player came to our house on Mill St after the concert.
Wow! I actually was the guy who booked Fishbone to play Springfest! I had a video tape of this at one time, that I guess I got from you Syd, thru our mutual friend Doug. It didn't have the police section, I'm sorry you went thru that! Kudos to you for knowing your rights! Its inclusion puts that day in a somewhat different light .. it was already showing some dark undertones, but this is fascinating. Thank you for posting.
I gave an edited tape to the band at the Vic in Chicago. The camera belonged to the SIU film and television department. I checked out the equipment and consulted the free legal counsel provided to students about my rights to tape a free event on campus grounds. I was told that my fees paid for my right to attend and document any public event on campus. As a film student, I felt it was not just my right but my duty to document Fishbone at Springfest. It was impossible when they played Halloween!
I was there for that. I had never heard of Fishbone before that day, but I have been of fan of theirs since this day.
They don't show the riot
Sorry to see the Police part but thanks for sharing it. I wish we could all be as brave!
What an incredible artifact! Thanks for posting.
Is this the year of the riot? I thought it would have been a few years earlier my memory fades
The lead singer climbed up the statued and started the whole crowd moshing and then they started breaking shit while I watched from a high point
Good for you Syd! I was at that show as well. Thanks for the recording! Curious did you graduate that year finally and did you have a career in photography/ videography?
Thanks! Yes that was my last year in Cdale. I've worked in television, film, theatre and live concerts and met a lot of famous people. Life's been good and now my career is really taking off! SIU!
Wow, just watched the police section. Thanks Syd! Talk about a bunch of guys blindly doing what their bosses told them to do.. That takes a lot of balls to do today, and even more back in the 80s within all them mullets!
You should have been there for the riot. Best mosh pit ever. He climbed up the statue in the quad and started the whole crowd moshing..slam dancing in my day..the crowd started breaking everything
I was at this but the time Fishbone got on I was hammered and went off some where and passed out. Thanks for posting
and all was perfect!! xoxo
Where is the riot footage? Best I've seen. Must have been the year after or before, I was there.
back when fishbone was best LIVE band in the world, until Kendal left, saw them 23 times with Kendal
Chris with the Travis Bickle soliloquy!
