      that will never happen because 98% of artist dont own their masters. The greatest music original ever made was the App for Bjorks Album 'Biophilia'. I still have a working version. It was called the future of unbreakable DRM and, in fact, it was NEVER broken. It was also interactive and quite beautiful. Each song had it's own interactive App/Game and you could mix each song within the Apps....all held within the Biophilia App itself.

    Music sounds amazing in 5.1, really does. Almost nothing is ever mixed for surround sound though, you know why? Lack of consumer interest. In a world where a lot of people listen to music through their phone or laptop, often with crappy speakers or earphones, there's no demand.
    This device strikes me as much the same - it's a solution looking for a problem too, in some respects. It won't take off - it's too niche.

    This is such a good conversation on this. Honestly I love Austin's take, really understanding the situation top to bottom and expressing both sides. Yeah I wanna listen to Donda 2 on my phone, but end of the day, it's Kanye's music, his art, and he can do whatever he wants with it. Demanding he hand over a share of its profits to some multinational corporation isn't really fair, and whether you think the Stem player is a worthwhile purchase of not, it's ultimately his decision to make and he's well within his rights to do.

    • @deepfreq
      @deepfreq 2 года назад +2

      Then distribute it yourself... they take all the risk creating a platform for artis to get their shit out... if you don't wanna agree to use their service create your own... he still owns rights unless he signs them away lol that's like creating a product then asking a factory to make it then be like well you guys cost to much I'm not doing it.. lol okay then don't you still have the choice. I think his choice was a shitty one. There's a reason 0 artis do this & why the format isn't widespread used. Music is marketing. Money is in shows always been like this. If he isn't making as much as he wants bc his 10 mill mansion isn't big enough then make better music tell more tickets. Work harder play better shows. Kayne was a only child & it shows lmao 🤣

    The basics;
    1.You NEED to sign up on his website to download new music onto this dongle.
    2. It is 8 gig of non-expandable storage. Needs Wi-Fi/internet connection to add music.
    3. It is way overpriced so a niche' tech product like an mp3 player or a CD to carry along with your smartphone. It's cool but not necessary (like his Yeezy shoes).
    4. You have to be tech savy to even consider buying this. The average music fan just wants to stream good music not jump through hoops to hear each instruments or beat separately- it's purpose is a WASTE OF TIME! Unless you're an aspiring producer or artist that is trying to understand how the song was made.
    Conclusion; I would NEVER buy such a toy. If i hear a catchy song I like, I'm wait for it to be leaked online or in another streaming app.
    Kanye has the resources to create his own streaming app like Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music etc which would be better received than thus physical toy.

    From the time I heard about it I said "should have been an app". But yeah, at this point Kanye is more of a merch salesman than a musician. And his fans are absolutely the kind of people who need to be seen with everything he sells. I've seen a lot of hip hop threads with people comparing it to the iPod and trying to justify its price because it's 'groundbreaking tech', which it isn't. It's only got 8gb of non expandable storage and all of the 'stem splitting' is done via the cloud. So it's just a cheap music player with barely any storage. I also hear with the file sizes for his flac stems you won't be able to fit both Donda and Donda 2 on it at the same time.

    I was in band and now I mix music as a hobby. So the idea of soloing the drum stems or guitar stems is cool. But the average person who listens to music wont care one bit about what this pebble can do. They just want to listen to music. Even though I like the idea we have apps that do this now. Plus it's really ugly, expensive and in the end useless. Hard core Kanye fans might buy it but the people who just like his music then no they won't. to me it’s very interesting how this device has changed. kanye has used a version of this device for years now - the first version not for sale was made in collaboration with Teenage Engineering. he used it in shows and listening parties to basically mix the show live. so for a while it was framed as a device for artists and producers to use for live performances or short sessions. and in that sense it was very cool and very much not a gimmick. since then it’s been redesigned to fit into the Yeezy hypebeast type of aesthetic and is now basically a platform for superfans to get access to his music. it comes across as way more of a gimmick now than it used to.

If you don’t have mp3s, you can use a RUclips link on the website and an AI will split the music, but results vary if you use that method.

    If I could just say, the stem player wasn't created to sell albums exclusively though it is exactly what's happening. Talking about it as an "interesting platform". Theres a reason its so hard to get stems for songs, because I dont want someone to have the individual components of my track so they can remix it, you gotta pay me to do that. And the listener wanting to "listen to their music the way they want it", my tracks are mixed in the way that I wanted it, its my song, it just seems weird to me that someone would really wanna turn the drums down on their favorite song, its your favorite cuz the artist made it that way and they want you to hear it that way. You wouldnt remove the entire red color channel from an anime because thats the way you prefer it right? (To be clear im not pissed about this, I just think the whole concept is silly)

      This is by far the best comment I’ve seen so far. I make music personally myself, and you got it spot on. I don’t want people randomly taking sounds out of my music because they “prefer it” that way. Like bruh if you don’t like the music the way that it was created to sound, listen to someone else. It’s the most gimmicky device I’ve ever seen, and the artists vision should come first. Not “I wanna take out the synths because I like it more”.

      @enlistenmusic1719 2 года назад +2

      @@zanecallisto4169 First off lol, I’m actually on the younger side so don’t be calling me old lmao. Second, it’s that small artists like myself are the type of people who get burned by easy access to stems. It’s not about expression, people can interpret my music however they want. It’s about the vision, and about the permission from the artist to remix songs. I’m not speaking for everyone, but personally I think most artists wouldn’t want a song of theirs remixed with lower quality stems by means of an AI stem splitter. I’d personally wanna give the person remixing the actual full stems, so that they could make the best possible remix.
      Another thing about it is that is that I do make types of electronic music so I get what you mean by the whole importance of remixing. The thing is, say you make a song. You don’t have a ton of listeners, and someone just randomly remixes it and gets a lot more plays then you. You didn’t even speak with the person remixing, they just did it because they can. That’s the problem with easy access to stems. They shouldn’t just be available like that. You should have to go to the artist, or at least talk to someone about it, especially if you plan on making a proper, high definition remix without any weird noise from stem splitters.
      And of course I’m not gonna yell at someone for making a remix of my song. If anything I’d be flattered more then upset. It’s the point that this somewhat ruins the actual exclusivity of remixes. Anyone can technically do it with an stem splitter, which means why would someone ever pay you money to get all of your stems, unless they’re a professional. That’s the entire point of why this is a problem. It’s like if exclusive games could have all the code and assets leaked simply through an AI. It’s not good for the creators, and the consumer who receives the remixes gets a less polished product, instead of the artists vision.

He is making more money from his art by doing it this way. Also, Over 70% of a new album's sales are generated in the first 2 weeks. After that, the hype wears off and it starts to sell as much as everything else on the market. This is why albums that originally had exclusive deals are then placed on all platforms because the exclusive platform has already accumulated the bulk of the revenue.

    The Stem player is not only home to Donda 2. Donda Deluxe and Jesus Is King are also included on the player via the platform free of charge with tweaks and updates to songs every now and then.Those albums account for almost 1/4 of the price and it provides fans with intimate access into his creative process. If Ye releases more music or other artists submit stems to the platform as well the player will eventually pay for itself. Thile
    stem player also samples and contains exporting options making it a studio tool as well. Donda 2 isn’t the end goal for the stem player as a corresponding app is in development. This is going to be a fully immersive experience when it’s all said and done. I disagree with the “too poor” statement as the majority of people pay way more for the device they listen to Spotify on and with. Consoles do this all the time only to charge users a monthly fee to take advantage of all the features in addition to game prices, yet no one accuses Microsoft or Sony of being insensitive to people’s budgets. The resale value of the Stem Player has always been good and it’s a cool way to connect fans with Ye’s art.

    This is for Ye fans like me who also make music. It's a designer product end of day like Gucci.
    I bought it and it's kind of like a fidget spinner for artist and music lovers. Also it pretty much places you in Ye's "Beta Tester" program for his music where you will be the first to listen to the update of the Donda 2 songs which are not finished. The discord alerts yoyu when an update to a song is out and i believe once the full album is complete that is when he will release it everywhere else.
    Mind you i make 50k a year and have no kids/wife whilst living in the midwest so my buying situation is vastly different.

    The dude on the left doesn't make sense with his arguments. He keeps saying "if apple did this it would be a bad precedent" but he's missing the point of kanye trying to provide a path in the future for new artists to own their music.

    I love the debate, but other systems have been doing hardware locks for years, and IMO this is just an artist looking at how they can copy existing systems for their profit. Apple is notorious for this, like preventing device use unless you first pair it to an iPhone, or preventing you from developing ios if you only own an iPhone and not a Mac.
