Kanye just vented his emotions by making this big project (album + listening party) because he CAN and also made a quick buck after by selling the stem player...

I think Kanye was just going through an emotional phase and tried to come out with an album too soon. I think you can compare it to albums like God's country or Yandhi. He was in a mood to make an album but never finished it. In this case he was heartbroken from his divorce and right now he is in Japan taking a break from what I know. If Donda 2 didn't come out I wouldn't care. I want a project Kanye puts his heart into without an emotional spur of the moment album.
I'm pretty sure he took months to maybe a year to make Life of Pablo because Famous took months to make from what I know and that song is amazing.

I love that I wasn’t the only one asking this exact question. Even the way you broke it down is completely accurate. This should’ve never been a sequel to Donda, the turn around was way too quick. This could’ve easily been a random one off album.
The song "True Love" off of Donda 2, is said to be dropping on streaming soon with the XXXTentacion doc dropping in the coming days as well. Now, I don't know if that signals some movement on the Donda 2 front, but it is better than nothing. Unless it just drops on streaming as an X song, in which case... Donda 2 still never dropping.

Hey Melon, thanks for asking about my mom. Her birthday just passed on the 19th, we had Cracker Barrel (we're very white) and I got her a chocolate cake. We had to spend a good bit of it in a doctor's office for my dad's pain management consultation, but they thanked me for driving them and it was just nice to see my parents happy for a while. In my eyes Donda 2 isn't even in Kanye's discography until its complete and on all streaming platforms. If that doesn't ever happen I don't count it. I do wonder if I'm the only one with that sort of thought process though lol
I think it’s pretty obvious Kanye scrapped the project, and ended up giving the songs to the features artists (like Future, possibly Travis, Don Toliver, etc) and is gonna remain relevant by having his verses featured on their songs whenever they release them.

@@lettherebegames8 with all due respect and with love, I don’t care what multiple sources have to say. I care about the actions that I actually see these artists take. And I know Kanye as a long term thinker, so to me it makes sense that he’s decided to extend his relevancy for the year through other artists’ releases who have a different demographic then his own. Just my opinion. And if Donda 2 isn’t scrapped then that’s great, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
As long as we still get to hear the music, it really doesn’t matter to me whether it comes directly in the form or Donda 2 or via his peers in the music industry.
The only issue with this being scrapped is it was actually released, just not in the normal way. The whole stemplayer thing sorta forced him to release it other wise his fans would’ve spent $200 for nothing.

I am kinda done with Kanye's chaotic shit as of late, been much more inspired by the artists who don't continually try to pull the wool over their fans' eyes. I can't say for sure cause I don't fucking know the guy, but I think if he really took the time to reflect on his years since TLOP til now and sought some serious help he could recover and put out another classic. As of now I feel like we are witnessing his career spiral out of control at a rate that just gets more rapid every year. Perhaps that's just me though, used to be a huge fan, one of those who claimed he was a genius when I was in high school. But now I get low-key depressed when I hear some more bullshit about him in the public sphere.
It honestly is heartbreaking. Looking back to classics like College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, it doesn't even feel like the same artist recorded them. It was an entirely different person who made those records.
It's eerily apropos that his latest albums are named in honor of his mother, because I feel her passing is the severed thread that began the nosedive he's been on lately.
Yes, he's become a genuinely psychotic and deranged shithead and needs to be held accountable for what he's done lately, yet, and this is gonna garner some hate towards me I know, at the same time part of me can't help but feel bad for the guy.
When people say “genius” they’re referring to his music ability. Not sure how his personal life has to do with any of that. Dude is bipolar having major family issues. His production on push’s t’s album is fire, I don’t think anything he’s doing now in her personal life reflect his 2 decade long legendary musical run.

I'm guessing if Kanye's mental state and personal life (from a public facing standpoint) is pretty poor, then his ability to transcend that into art is being hindered somehow. I mean it speaks for itself when you look at general album rating listings, sales, etc. People generally regard his stuff from Yeezus and prior as legendary. TLOP has some great cuts, Ye is meh, JIK is forgettable, Donda was a mess despite having some awesome features, his best recent track was leaked by Drake, and now he's just straight up taking the piss with DONDA 2. I can go back to any of his albums from 2013, even before then and play front to back and I think most every song he did back then is a totally different Kanye to 2016 to now. But to each their own man, it's not that serious just how I feel about his music in recent years. Maybe my tastes have also pivoted over the years.
I feel like if you isolate Kanye from his public image, his other endeavors like his shoes and such, just look only at his discog, he went from making classic albums with clear concepts that made sense, to just making mediocre albums with some great singles. All the hype and drama surrounding his music career colors people's opinions on him, myself included.

I honestly didn't understand why people were excited about Donda 2. We got 30 something tracks from Ye in 2021. He was in every headline for months. I was completely fine with him going away for awhile and doing other things. There was no way Donda 2 was going to be a fully realized project this year.

I think musically this project is solid. I’m a big fan of a lot of the instrumentals and there’s a lot of songs that have potential to be iconic. A lot of them are carried by features too - I.e. Pablo and Sci-Fi, songs where the song has a lot of potential and strong features, but are let down by weak and unfinished Ye verses.

We are both pretty disappointed in this record. My mom personally thinks that Kanye hasn't really had a great record since Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I say I really liked Watch the Throne but she insists that album doesn't count as one of his because the whole thing is a collab with Jay-Z, but we both agree he really fell off in 2010-2011 and it's been hit and miss ever since.

Fantano's saying pretty much what I was thinking. Donda 2 is in a similar state as Yhandi (and other of Ye's half-finished projects of the last decade) but this time Ye actually made money off the project rather than let it leak out for free. I imagine if Ye had done a paid release of Yhandi fans wouldn't have had the same favorable reaction/cult following to it that they did (given the $200 opportunity cost).
I'm currently going through some of the Donda 2 tracks. Definitely some potential; hopefully Kanye gets his act together and actually finishes whatever he starts next time.
I think this rollout is gonna be like Yandhi...Yondha if you will. I'm sure he'll put something else out in the future that's hopefully way better. Donda 2 as it stands rn doesn't even excite me so I'm all for him scrapping it lol

I think the stem player is the reason it’s not finished. When he wants to release on streaming platform like apple or Spotify it actually has to be the final product. Even if there’s the deluxe with the tracks rearranged and some new ones it’s still the final one. If it’s on the stem player he can Kanye with it for as long as he wants.
Watch The Throne 2 could've been a thing, but due to Jay-Z having beef with apple music, that album never saw the light of day

What im more happy about though, is that on my right, there's the Thundercat "Drunk" album as a suggestion.
I was excited about the record, some of the songs sounded like with some mixing and mastering they would be really good. Feels like it's gonna be Yandhi all over again, one or maybe a few tracks this time will make it to the next album (80 degrees became Hurricane) but for the most part this is getting cut.

I don't think most of us legitimately consider it part of his discography. It sits somewhere between Cruel Summer and Yandhi for me in terms of relevance to Kanye and how I see his discography.
