This has been very helpful, I have 4 small balfouri and I had also heard that the male and female differ slightly in appearance and I thought as they get bigger I might be able to tell but this definitely cleared that up for me and im still excited to see them grow. Males can mature from 18 months to 3 years. Females can mature from about 2 years. But there are variables depending on how they are kept. Keep them on the warmer side and feed them a bit more often and they will grow a bit faster compared to if they are kept a bit cooler. But you possibly risk shortening their lifespan by doing this.

If seen that males normally don’t show as much color as a female does that’s a pretty good indicator to sex
