VAN TOUR - A FILMMAKERS VAN (built in firestove)

  • Опубликовано: 30 июл 2019
  • This video is all about my self built Mercedes 310 which I have lived in throughout the last winter with a firestove as the only heatsource. I bought the van without a heating system and neither did it come with an airconditioning system. This was especially tough during this summer in france. A video about the trip through france is coming soon.

I love how spacious this built is. Have a fire/heat is nice in winter months. Great job! If this is my van, the only thing I would add is an awning and convert that storage box behind the passenger seat into a pull out cooking station.

Long live the old Mercedes van, still the best van Mercedes made, I had a 208 in the 90’s, Splinter is a great disappointment.
The camper looks great 👍 very practical, I have the same stove as many do although my California has a 2 burner, campingaz is insanely expensive cheapest for a 907 is about 25 €, aerosols for the little stove are about 1.20 € half price for the same quantity of gas.
There seems to be a few ex fire Mercedes van coming on the market, unfortunately most are petrol.

    Hi Torben,
I found your channel recently while I was looking for ideas/inspiration for my future van build. I am in the process of looking for the right van at the moment and I have some questions about the van if you don't mind.
    1. Did you sound the engine cover? How is the engine noise while driving?
    2. What about shower?
    3. What is your fuel economy? liters per 100km?
    4. Can the van maintain 90/100 km/h relatively easy?
I can't quite find a vehicle in a good condition yet here in Bulgaria, but there are few which I think can do the job. The problem is they are not 310 but 207/8/307/8d and I am worried that they might be under powered especially 207/307 versions with around 70hp.
Keep filming, keep camping and happy travel! :)
P.S Your van conversion time lapse video is awesome, I can't stop watching it.

    • @ARTVENTUREFILMS
      @ARTVENTUREFILMS  5 лет назад

      Hey Grozdimir,
no worries at all! Always keen on helping out.
Thanks a lot for reaching out and cool to hear that you are enjoying the van build video😃
      1. I left the engine cover as it was and didn't do anything against the sound. I heard diesel is supposed to be louder but I don't have a clue really. The noise is okay when driving 80-90km/h it does get louder above 100km/h. 90 is still okay to talk with your passenger.
      2. I had a shower at the camping spot in Austria and during the trip through Europe I showered in rivers or the sea.
      3. The best was 12l on highways so far. Goes up to 16 in the city I reckon.
      4. Yeah the van can easily go up to 120 maybe even 130 and hold the speed. Just takes a whole lot more fuel. Just not as easy for the van to climb hills, had to go back to second gear at some 16% roads.
I don't know about the other van models of Mercedes. This one has 105hp as I found out yesterday. There are lots driving around in Germany but I guess you're looking for a cheap one. I'm trying to sell mine at the moment.
      Have a great day!

There's a video on my channel called: "van build (behind the scenes)" and you can see a short time lapse of me editing. That was without the second monitor. Later on I would have my setup like this: laptop next to the monitor and me sitting against the wall on the other side with an extra keyboard and mouse. Hopefully that makes sense. Not the greatest setup, I have to admit but the floor was mostly too cold to sit upright.

First of all it was super cheap and secondly old cars always look bloody awesome 😁

You really have to own a vintage car to understand the "WHY". It cannot be explained. :D

i wouldn't know a single reason why not. Sure there's vans with longer wheelbases, but it's up to the builder how much space he thinks he will need.
Otherwise, these old firebrigade-vehicles will never be used for service again, so it's the best possible use for such a vehicle. Plus they usually are in mint condition with dirt-low mileage.

@@RyanDunn1987 I didn't mean 'why the fire brigade van', I meant 'why the old T1'. Otherwise I completely agree with your comment.

@@ARTVENTUREFILMS Yes, it's too rough. But this is a motor home. This is a GAZ 66 army truck. He can drive straight through the swamp. Inside there are three beds. Wood stove. This is where the comfort ends. There is a rifle, a rifle, an axe, a spear (Pilum), 20 Darts, 10 stun grenades, 2 smoke bombs, a tool for wood and metal, welding.
