Thanks Ron. It's often interesting to see a layout in its full environment. Remember, it's the CAT'S house! The humans are just there as a support staff.
Great video of your layout and your basement I think full video like this one gives a better perspective and ideas on how one can utilize the space they have. Thank you
Great tour! It helps to see behind the scenes to show others how to manage your space. You’re one of my top two channels now that I’m re-entering the hobby after 35 years! I’m learning a LOT! Question: I have seen on a couple of layouts, including yours, those little trays mounted on the front edges around different parts of the layout, holding cards of various types. What are they? Information cards about the trains or the “towns” on the layout, or operational notes? It’s almost like you’re displaying things for public visitors. Just curious. Thanks!
Ron, I'm hoping you plan on attending our "See the Dream" theme at the Missouri Model Railroad Museum in Ind, MO on May 11th & 12th. At least one day. Great celebrities like you will really give us a boost. Let me know! Dale
Thanks for the behind the scenes tour. As for your work bench, it looks dark like a dungeon where a mad scientist would tinker and experiment until he solves whatever issue he might have on the railroad. As for "messy" that's how you know when someone is busy. Thanks again APPRECIATE all that you have shared with us.
Thanks Ron. It's great for me to see how other people set up their layouts and where it is situated as that gives me ideas for mine. I always thought your layout was a circuit not end to end so this has shown me that part. There is a lot of time and effort put into the layout and it definitely shows. It is also amazing to see how much extra lighting is needed for the videos as I am also making videos but do not as yet have any of that fancy lighting that you have.. I just use my phone and shoot then edit and then post.. but one day maybe I'll get fancy and get some decent lighting.
Nice layout Ron. I am a " lone wolf " too and I realized that too much layout would mean way to much maintenance. Which takes away from the fun of operation.
Thanks so much Ron. It is always great to see the back story and I too am alone for working. I do feel like you and I have much the same sinerio. Love the space, love the work and you are a great Long Distance Friend. Mike & Robin
We all dream of a huge empire, but in reality, small is better. I haven't figured out that concept yet, so I'm still going for that huge empire! One of these days, I'll stop and come run trains at your place!
Wow, Ron. Is that the amount of light that you need for doing videos and livestreams? Uh oh, HO creeping in. Be careful, it’s nice to be able to see the trains, lol. It’s great to see how it all ties together in the basement and the layout looks terrific. Love the expansion into the other room, even if it’s just 2 feet at a time. Great set up.
Don't be fooled. The camera settings were originally set for the parts of the basement that are not so light, so those same settings really washed out the layout at first. You'll note as it goes on in the video that I adjusted the settings and it is a lot less bright.
Now that is a nice layout! I've only gotten into trains in the last year or so. I have a beginner Bachmann Rail Chief set that I've added about 50 feet of track and 7 cars to. I run it around my office floor. I'd like to get into a DCC set, but I'm still a bit confused on how that all works.
A very nice video and layout. I'm in the middle of expanding my own (HO scale) layout, yet I'll only have room for a main table and yard rather than a shelf layout of this size.
Really enjoyed the tour of your basement explaining how the layout fits in around various features. I did wonder why you took the staging tracks across the doorway when presumably there is space in the same room on the reverse side of the wall to the scenic portion of the layout.
That was really cool seeing the basement ! BUT, I really miss the intro music you started out with in your early videos. Can you get that back ? Your videos inspired me to return to the hobby in 2020. After more than 20 years of raising kids and new job assignment, your videos convinced me to try it again to relax. I am really glad I did. I really look forward to seeing new videos on your channel- keep up the good work my friend !
I still use a piece of that same song in the closing of my videos, but I won't bring it back to the intros because when the music played I lost viewers in droves. People are just really impatient to get to the meat of the content. You'll note on my newer videos I've taken out my introductory splash screen all together. That is why.
Thanks for another great video! It’s nice to see the rest of your basement, and that you are able to negotiate some expansion room. Good luck training the cat not pull a Godzilla routine on your layout, I haven’t had much luck with my two kittens… lol
Thanks for a kids behind the scenes tour. Like you said, “I or you, don’t really show that part of the layout” and I’m glad you did. Are those 2 large square items on the tripods lights or reflective screens? Just curious. Ron
Nice place Ron.True very beautiful place. Thank for the tour. I live in apartment, so i don´t get that space, oh God its so much space you have. Thank you
Thanks for showing us a different perspective of your layout and your set up for the Videos you make. Great job as always and looking forward to your future Vids.
How far is Sheppard AFB from where your layout runs through Wichita Falls? As a nwly commissioned 2nd Lt. In the Air Force, I was TDY at Sheppard going through Titan II training in 1979. Good video, Ron...
Thanks for posting a new tour Ron. I love the layout. I understand your issues with being far from other modelers. I think you're probably the closest layout to where I live. Thats why Im also building a big layout. Watching your videos has helped keep me inspired to gut it out through the construction phase that I'm currently in. What spacing did you use between your upper and lower decks? Are you happy with it?
I have a full 24" railhead to railhead. That allows 18" clear. That's a lot a d requires a large helix, but I wanted grail elevators on the lower deck.
@RonsTrainsNThings Thanks for the reply. I was also planning on a 24" height for my layout, although I'm in HO scale. Grain elevators will still fit, but it'll be a but tighter of a clearance
hello Ron & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks Ron Friends Randy & Super Cool Behinds The Scenes Basement Tour Thanks Ron Friends Randy
18:04 Don't want to let the cat out of the bag yet? It is on the layout, eating the electrical cord for your lights... I little late fore that, don't ya think.?

I was sent her from the AML podcast,
I wanted to see a Chet on the layout thumbnail.
Such a nice guy. Thanks for inviting us into your basement! That was really fun.

Thanks Ron for sharing your basement with us. Your generosity has helped me and the hobby so much. Take Care Chris
Thanks for showing the entire basement. To often we just see someone's layout and don't see how it fits into the space.
That monitor arrangement struck me as odd at first, but after seeing it thru the video, now I’ve gotta try that at my workbench setup!
Hey Andy, good to hear from you.
Nice layout Ron. I am a " lone wolf " too and I realized that too much layout would mean way to much maintenance. Which takes away from the fun of operation.
Lone wolf here too! Not so much the maintenance issue but trying to find a way to operate realistically with long trains (30+) Thanks!! Mario
Thanks so much Ron. It is always great to see the back story and I too am alone for working. I do feel like you and I have much the same sinerio. Love the space, love the work and you are a great Long Distance Friend.

You should shoot me a text when you're going to be in the area.

Good question. The reason is because the space you mention is taken by a washer, dryer, furnace, and hot water heater.

Looks great Ron! Thank you for sharing the passion with all of us!
Very nice, it has given me to hope for in my new layout, looking good!!

I'm going to try aluminum foil
Nice layout dude😊!
Great tour of your basement, helps to see just what the layout looks like.

Great tour, Ron. Let’s face it, model railroading is a messy business! I’m in the same boat.😊
Thanks for showing us a different perspective of your layout and your set up for the Videos you make. Great job as always and looking forward to your future Vids.
Thanks Ron,the layout is a lot bigger than I always thought...It will be interesting once you begin the expansion of the staging.
Great video Ron. Keep up the good work.
It does. Thank you for sharing Ron.
I really enjoyed that! That was very nice of you to create ... and share. Thanks so much
Thanks Ron for the tour Ron.
that was a very interesting video, my girlfriend lives in Saginaw and it's interesting to see how you compress it all.

Thanks for the BTS, Go Chiefs!
Thanks for letting us see how it all fits in. Great work as always!

As a nwly commissioned 2nd Lt. In the Air Force, I was TDY at Sheppard going through Titan II training in 1979.
Good video, Ron...
Katy yard,.which I model, is just about a mile south of the base.
Thanks for posting a new tour Ron. I love the layout.

🤣👍🏼🧡
you must have a very understanding wife. thanks for the tour
Awesome video Ron, Where did you find the yellow RR crossing switch plate?
I bought those at Hobby Lobby.
@@RonsTrainsNThings thanks Ron
hello Ron & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks Ron Friends Randy & Super Cool Behinds The Scenes Basement Tour Thanks Ron Friends Randy
What is the total basement dimensions? Where was the original helix? Nice job Ron...
The original helix was where the new wall intersects the outside wall.
How's the kitten training going Ron we have a kitten that is getting on our layout messing things up any ideas that work to train him
I'll get back to you on that.
18:04 Don't want to let the cat out of the bag yet? It is on the layout, eating the electrical cord for your lights... I little late fore that, don't ya think.?
Yes, the cat is a problem child
So are you from the DFW area i am but id never model the area ? lol i like trees and mountains too much...
No I'm from Missouri, but I lived in Fort Worth for 6 years.
Great love farm screen , yea you can get too big , if don’t have people com ing over especially when get older

Dale
No pun intended on the cat comment???
I guess i missed the garage
I didn't show the garage, but the door behind my recliner leads up to my garage.
and your cat does not chew wires?
Thanks Ron. A great insight of your design.
Nice layout dude😊!
