One of the games of this series (no spoilers), has an average of ~4,200 resources lost PER MINUTE. That is 3+ fully mining bases of income. This is the most I have ever seen - I don't know if it's a record in SC2, but it is more than Serral vs Clem at Dreamhack (which was ~4,000/min, I checked) - and any other game in recent memory. My voice was gone after casting this series, idk how they keep up this level of action while actually playing.
It's even better: even including the seconds after the observers leave we get 61 617 + 46 513 = 108 130 resources lost total, over 23.75 minutes, which gives an average of a bit over 4550 resources lost per minute. Insane stuff.
I love the widow mine unburrow speed buff for exactly this reason. This is a step in the direction it needs to go in a the redesign it desperately needs, akin to the cyclone one. As it is in this patch, they literally just buffed the most broken unit in the entire game.
Having followed off and on for the better part of five years it's awesome to see Clem do so well in recent times, he's got a great personality on top of being an outstanding player.
I saw Clem at a grocery store in Lyon yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Spoiler for game 2 Reynor played that entire game without getting Groove Spines for his hydras. A potentially game losing mistake considering how close many of the fights were.
I was wondering why his armies seemed just not quite have the OOMPH I was expecting. I actually think that was a big deal, and that game was close as hell. It probably did cost him the game.

If widow mines were straight up removed, TvZ would be a far more fun and interesting matchup
Thank you to all the Zergs that complain about widow mines. I started playing widow mines instead of tanks and its really helped my winrate. I like to go double or triple reactor factory and just pump them all game. Feels good
Clem kept the reaper alive for 11 minutes. And on top of that, he even microed the reaper at 10 minute mark against a dozen roaches and grenaded them so reaper could get away.
OMG... that comeback in game 2 by clem... what a god! i swear i thought he was done for especially with reynor so perfectly turning all those widow mines into traitor mines. how did clem pull that off?!
Great series, Clem is clearly very talented, but this was just watching Reynor outplay him in all the little individual ways that should have lead to a decisive victory. That game 2 was just so sad. This is my new go-to in demonstrating how bad the decision to nerf banes while buffing mines was. You watch Reynor just straight-up outplay Clem at his own style with game-ending momentum over and over, but fizzle because banes don't fulfill their role any more in lategame ZvT. The whole time mines just ruining Reynor's reinforcements for 0 APM, as you explain @30:26. From Clem, though, some of these fights are an awesome example of how the new widow mine buff could lead to interesting gameplay in repositioning them mid-fight, if they were to be redesigned into that role, rather than just the broadly-powerful game-breaking unit they are today.
Now that banes are finally balanced, the game became more interesting and Clem’s talent finally shines to its full potential. Raynor played a great serie but Clem was simply the better player.
@@burgerman1234567 Why do you think that? The problem with banes still present-- they can still just as easily delete an entire worker line if you're not paying attention. But their role in TvZ has been botched --they're now countered by marines, the unit they're supposed to counter.

@@burgerman1234567 Short range? the detection range is about that of a roach, and it can hit units far further away once it locks on. The FF doesn't make it not horribly broken and OP - suicidally running overlords or pheonixes to trigger them is at best a gamble. And unit suicides cost resources, widow mine missles don't. Plus mines are so good you don't have to have them in your army, scatter them through the map and they'll do plenty of damage w/o any FF risk
I don't know what it is, but watching clem win these games (sometimes decisively) against zerg doesn't feel especially satisfying, it feels mostly like he's abusing how strong T always was and that Z now has a really hard time fighting mass marines because zerglings cannot fight and banes can be sniped. Clem's bane sniping is impressive in its consistency, but it doesn't feel like Z can do anything there, especially with the constant threat of losing 10+ banes to an unlucky widowmine hit. Maybe it's just that reynor doesn't play well enough, but the other stuff clem does is not insanely impressive, like he loses entire mineral lines to 4 banes or a ling runby, wins one game by just juggling medivacs between third and main... For me it's always been a pleasure to watch serral for how well he does about everything but specifically scouting, that's just lacking in these games.
@@yugonostalgia8961 Widow mines didn't receive a change in like 2 years or so. I don't think they can be made responsible alone, especially since serral in particular and other zergs too have picked up some very good techniques to minimize the splash damage by mines that weren't really played in the past like that.
@@asdfasdf-mn8iu Widow mines didn't change, but the game around them changed and made them much more effective because of the cascading effects of the changes. The reality is now that Terrans are not the old "Turtle until Ghost" Terrans of years ago, and now Terrans with APM similar to top Zerg get a huge advantage simply because they have the single best static defense in the game on top of their increased mobility. Being able to force the enemy to have to micro intensely against a one shot static defense before combat is a huge advantage in any fight. Not to mention that defense is a lot less static than it used to be. They are a unit from the last era of SC2 that desperately need a rework to fit into what the game is now.

@@yugonostalgia8961 Widow mine unburrow speed was buffed last patch, which is rarely really affecting the games. Targeting AI has never been touched and I wouldn't really know what to buff about it, they just target the closest unit, that's absolute standard for every unit in the game. Burrow speed was nerfed a few patches back, it has not been buffed since start of legacy of the void. Permacloaking with armory was somewhat of a revert of a nerf from before. Inititally, widow mines were always perma-cloaked without any upgrades. They moved that to drilling claws and then moved that to armory - that's somewhat of a buff, but imo not really that much, since it just takes some load off of drilling claws, which is good imo. So all in all, widow mines have received buffs and nerfs in the past few patches, with perma-cloak being moved from drilling claws to armory being in 2020 - the widow mines has almost been untouched for years. Widow mines are not the cheapest splash damage, that would be banes (50/25 vs. 75/25). If storm had 5 range and did 40 damage in 1.07 seconds of the HT standing still and targeting an area, it would be quite useless and not see too much play, because HT are too expensive and not cloaked. The widowmine is in a place in between the bane (lots of instant splash, but melee range) and storm/colossus/whatever other splash at high ranges. It has not a lot of range and needs targeting time, so it deals its damage instantly in exchange. I do agree that due to their punishing nature and them being cloaked they are not a very good addition to the game, but please don't try to paint them as the root of all evil by just lying about them. Fungal nerf was absolutely uncalled for. If anything, it should've been buffed, since it's rarely ever used for its damage and mostly for its slowing purposes. With 30 -> 25 dmg on fungal, it also does not 2-shot marines and does not 3-shot interceptors anymore, which is mind-boggling to me to do that on top of the bane and lurker nerfs.

Anyway I wish you could teach a class on casting Sc2, the other guys make me want to throw shot. Thank you for all your time.
He plays random primarily. But he has also stated multiple times in other casts that he started off as a Zerg.
It's a fair complaint about Widow Mines because they are dumb. The thing the Zerg hivemind will overlook is how dumb Vipers and Infestors are, too. Both races have dumb, broken shit.
@@elgar7252 I don't think they necessarily overlook it as much as they counter it takes so much more effort to get that stupid value from Vipers and Infestors or even to produce them than it does for Terran to make Widow Mines.
Zerg is op
Get your eyes checked
.
Zerglings runbys are just pathetic. Imagine a 15 marines runnung by. Oh, wait...
Clem is still inferior to Reynor.
1234 finallly
I forgot how boring Terran is to watch
Terrans need no hands to be played
Holy what the fuck?? What kind of hot take is this?
byuN LITERALLY had to forfeit a game against Solar because his WRISTS are almost destroyed after playing Terran for so many years.
That bane nerf made terrans even more lazy with their compositions, marines on stim don't even have to split for massive amounts of banes and the shear skill of the 3 top zergs still giving them a run for their money
