As a note, you can confederate him as Vlad/Isabella but you have to basically stand on top of the diplomacy and be ready to jump when his confederation pops up (you start with contact to him via a non-aggression pact, also have the same with Kemmler.) Its easy to get distracted or forget to check and hes wiped out long before you can ever get to him, mostly cause he starts at war with louen, which means he gets rolled by him or Groms AI rolls to be aggressive and stomps over that area fast.
If he dies you can create a rebellion in Mousillon to revive him. Let the rebellion capture Mousillon and it will revive his faction. All you need to do then is play the diplomacy game until you can confederate him and regain all the territory you gave to him in bribes.
or.. just install the recruit defeated legendary lords mod so you can have any of your factions lords if they get wiped out without having to go through a gimmick grind
The Red Duke is the only reason I'll play Kemmler. He's just close enough that you can confederate him before he dies. Speaking of mods does anyone here recommend a good one that makes him playable? I always liked the blood dragons over the other bloodlines, and I don't expect a blood line dragon LL in a DLC......no I'm not humoring some kind of champions of undead DLC that people circle jerk over on reddit. I'm not hyping myself up for something that's not going to happen.
I've heard of the recruit defeated LL mod since Settra was flesh and blood. Others feel free to chime in ^^ And yes CA should really just fang up and make him playable normally.
You can play Mixus Faction Unlocker. You can play ANY faciton in the game, gets regular updates when new factions join the Map and also works with older versions of the game. Quite the perfect deal. And also, as the red duke you can recruit an army similar in strenght to Vlads army....which says a lot.
The Biggest issue with the red Duke is that theres a good chance that he's dead before you can get to him; it's possible to "resurect" him with some shenanigans, but if you can get him he's absolutely on the short list of problem solvers for you. Frankly it might be easier to just use a mod that lets you recruit defeated lord from your faction/type.
Hi, I've been enjoying your last few videos in this series, and just had an idea for content: I was trying to decide which lord to recruit, and straining to think about the merits of each, and then I realised that might be a good topic for a video series. If you went race by race and gave a comparison to the standard lord choices and explained which one does what and why you'd want it from a technical level. I'm sure I'm not the only one who struggles with this. Hope this helps, ty
Hopefully I can do enough full videos that I can fairly do video comparisons like that, but I'll give it a long thought now that my time is freeing up more.
He is obviously a great Lord, with the ability to use both paths of Blood Vampire Lord, which gives him phenomenal survivability and damage output. In his case, Shield is probably less valuable than bonus vs infantry, but it is hard to argue with +8 MD. His El Syf skill is great for Lord Duels, but I would expand its use against SEMs, allowing Red Duke to battle Giants, Dragons and other beasties. He is also missing an uber damage boosting skills that other Legendary Lords usually have-50-75% damage increases for utter domination. If all of Red Duke's Zombie Dragon stat buffs hold up, he would have an absolutely ridiculous stat line- Damage of 600 (154 base + 446 AP), MA- 54 base with Frenzy, Armor of 90, Missile Resistance of 45% and Physical Resistance of 10%. And he would get an extra 10% ward save while in combat and +22 Bonus vs Large. Combines with El Syf and Heart Piercing Red Duke can erase almost any other Legendary Lord in a duel. Ridiculous level of OP'ness. CA- make Red Duke a playable character !!!
He's just a blood dragon but better. If you can get him, use him how you would a normal blood dragon, but give him your hardest battles. Being able to run a grave guard stack, with one or two blood knights as a posse is just the perfect balance of features. He's not... DRAMATICALLY better in a way that redefines what a Blood Dragon can be, but he is just better in every way that matters. Just, y'know, we're butchering Belakor in like 16 seconds instead of 20. As an aside, while I absolutely respect being a purist when it comes to mods... Recruit Defeated Legendary Lords is just SO nice. Completely besides getting to actually use the lords, it puts the brain goblin to sleep that doesn't want to kill a faction because you might eventually confederate them for their lord. It just completely removes that distraction. It's on the very short list of mods I consider no-brainers, that are a part of ever modwad for the game I assemble. You... do sometimes get weird cases like legendary lords with skills that do nothing, because their skill ties into their sub-faction mechanic that you don't have, but, that's a minor thing. Uh. Also for Vampire Counts you... sometimes seem to get another faction's bloodline lords. Sometimes. Inconsistently. And there is nothing quite like unifying all of the assorted Legendary Chaos lords at long last.
Yeah I tried again and I'd have had to declare war on certain factions the exact turn he was about to get wiped out to get him. I'll just do a Kemmler campaign sometime ^^; I'm going to run this current one a bit longer because I'm testing a Blood Dragon lord for Science!
I'll try harder with the campaign I'm starting tonight. ^^ One more Isabella run, then I've gotta try more of the others like Kemmler which'll make getting Red Duke easier.
Mods would make the process much easier. I've been playing Isabella, not Kemmler, so he dies too fast for me to get him in every campaign I've played to date. That's all it is. Thanks for asking.

Mixu's Mousillon gives mousillon unique mechanics and units like Black Grail Knights as well. Not sure if it's updated for 6.0 though.
I confederated him on turn 4 in a recent Kemmler game. Easy to do and a lot of fun to have both.

CA really should do just that, but yeah, I'm a big believer in damage stacking for critical moments.
