    Goblin archers is the epitome of "Quantity has a quality all its own".
    That said, they're IMHO heavily outclassed by night goblin archers (due to stalk plus the extra tech and scrap upgrades that night goblins get)

      Sure, I'll have a lot of fun comparing Night Goblins to them. It's just easier to spam the regular goblins.

    Great volume of fire archers. They provide excellent support for your front lines for a low price. They are very effective against large flying units and they are easy to mass due to their low cost. Goblin Archers can absolutely devastate low armor SEM's and Monster Infantry- Giants and Trolls, for instance. They can be reasonably effective against even against armored monsters, if they are screened- at full unit count they are providing at least 120 damage per valley every 8 seconds, which is approximately 1000 damage over 1 minute- pretty good for a cheap unit. And, as I stated before, Greenskins have better options for hitting armored units, which means that Goblin Archers can be brought for the right situation and not heavily relied upon for every case.

      @@kirillrivkin4842 agreed. I like bringing them for sieges as well. A second army of them that I filled in with mostly archers and spears. The spears clear walls and tie down the archers that stay up there and archers to help break my main force through the gate or any gaps I make. They can get destroyed and ignored without penalty because they take a single turn to recruit globally, they do good damage for their price point, and by virtue of being so numerous,they can eat a lot of enemy fire. A good unit, only really competing with Savge arrows atm. I think Night Goblins with Loonies are still the best, but it's hard to beat poison and spinning loonies.

      @TheGreatDanish that's a great way to use them. That's what I love about Greenskins- they don't have the best infantry, Cavalry, ranged or spellcasters, but what they have is functional and very versatile. And you have a multitude of ways of getting things done.

    • @OffToBattle
      @OffToBattle  День назад

      Greenskins have better options "by default" but I'm sure the Heavy Ammo is frightening to behold in full bloom.

    • @OffToBattle

      I feel this is the perfect time for me to cover the Greenskins because they're a great example in a nutshell of Warhammer's bigger issue: there's so darn many units that the versatility cripples our planning. So, it's good to have rules of thumb for what works with what. Goblin archers fire over the heads of goblin spears just fine too.

    Three units of gobbos with +3 AP obliterates large entities... It´s funny to see Imrik riding a goddamn huge dragon getting killed in half a minute because he got bogged down by orcs... I almost never use Orc archers because what they get in range, they lose in big baddie killing power... I gotta get skarsnik, i ignored him for too long lol

      Orc Arrer Boyz are the Greenskin equivalent of Empire Crossbows, dealing 20 damage (6AP) per shot, while goblins only deal 11 damage (1AP). Goblin Archers do have more models so they scale a bit better with flat damage boosts, but they're still only better in Grom's faction.

    • @TheGreatDanish
      @TheGreatDanish День назад +1

      @strangestecho5088 I think one thing gobbo arrows do better in everyone's army is being cheap and easy to replace. The volume of fire helps keep them competitive to ork arrows, and being something you can charge into a withering empire defense on a wall and replace in a single turn is incredibly valuable considering how many sieges you need to fight. Plus they can simply be left to die while you micro boar boys to rout stronger enemy back lines. Never discount how useful a unit of expendable units can be, especially archers. Expendable infantry usually does no damage but expendable archers will still do tons of damage, regardless of their crap stats. They will always have a place preserving stronger units, and in an army like greenskins where casualties are usually high for both sides, an expendable, replaceable unit has tremendous value.

    Love da gobbos.
    They're exactly what you want in an archer, with no untrimmed fat, and YOU keep the savings. There's things you can improve, but, all of those are excessive. It shoots, with an abundant model count, with reasonable accuracy. The numbers barely even matter, but honestly, the shooting numbers aren't even that bad.
    They're easy enough to boost if you want more, and you can take the savings and just get more of them.
    Heck, they're disposable enough that you can put one or two units of them in really bad, bait positions to pull cavalry and other dast attackers towards them, then gobble that unit up with something else. The gobbos break so fast they'll probably survive with like, half a unit left.

    • @OffToBattle
      @OffToBattle  День назад

      All very true. When I fail with them it's either because I didn't bring enough, I was facing too much armor or the AI out-micro'd me getting to them (which is funny when playing Greenskins but I did Grimgor's first quest battle and had that happen to me a fair bit). Oh well, I'm rusty with Greenskins. The unit's good, as long as you use it in the appropriate places. And if not your investment wasn't huge.

    • @TheGreatDanish
      @TheGreatDanish День назад

      @aprinnyonbreak1290 100%. It's hard to call a literally expendable 1 turn global archer bad. They aren't out shooting most ranged units but who cares? Cost effective as heck. I think in terms of actual use, Night Goblins with Loonies beat them by virtue of poison and Spinning Loons, but if you use goblin archers like you're supposed to, as cost effective ranged fodder, you will come to love this unit.

  • @TheGreatDanish

    I tend to prefer these in my ork armies once i get Scrap Arrers because of the 4 AP and i can ignore them and let em die if i fail to defend my back line. Theyre cheap, replaceable, and decent at eating unarmored and large enemies.
    Their cheapness lets me bring a huge army of them in a back up army for sieges. Usually my early second army is 10 gobbo arrows and 9 gobbo spears, enough to fill out a line in fights i need it and create a hail of arrows for sieges.

    • @OffToBattle
      @OffToBattle  День назад +1

      Yeah, my stint playing a lot of Vampire Counts taught me the value of even cheap missile units in a siege. Sounds like a very good army for frustrating unprepared attackers. while your LL crushes more stuff.

    • @TheGreatDanish
      @TheGreatDanish День назад

      @OffToBattle yep. Cheap arrows let you put more pressure on chokes, offense or defense. And usually with how well ork infantry can chew through other infantry, even the peppering from a few gobbos can help break even the toughest blob at a gate or help absorb empire crossbows on approach. They have a ton of uses and I like em. Definitely my most used archer in the game. The after learning how strong savage arrows are I'm more inclined to get them more often since they also align well with my strategy of abandoning my back line to more aggressively route the enemy front line lol

    • @kevingriffith6011
      @kevingriffith6011 День назад

      They also have an edge that a lot of Skaven missile units have: That low leadership is a blessing in disguise. They tend to break very early, meaning that they'll likely have more models left when they rally. You'll often have routed goblin units able to re-join a devolved fight and continue to provide damage while the enemies who routed those goblins the first time committed themselves elsewhere.

    Honestly, their sheer volume of fire counts for so much more than you'd think. And if you're using Grom? He can crank out their killing power in very silly ways. Never sleep on this unit - they'll perform well regardless of what turn it is.

    • @OffToBattle
      @OffToBattle  День назад

      Cranking up the volume (of arrows) definitely pays dividends. I remember melting Skarbrand to half health with skeleton archers as Tomb Kings just from sheer repetitive volume. Heavy Ammo with Goblin Archers doing the same and it'd go much faster in theory. I mean, as long as you brought enough of them and focus... but what else are you going to fire at if Skarbrand is there..?

Honestly I am rusty with Greenskins but it's still better to cover the unit's potential under Orc generals too.
