Remember that the Omnitrix can only be tracked if it's activated, so it makes sense that no one went after it during those years it was deactivated in Ben's closet.

I hope it was intentional that the old omnitrix was depicted as being significantly smaller in comparison to Ben just to emphasise even more the passage of time between seasons.
When Vilgax puts on the Aliens Force omnitrix, it gets much bigger, so yeah. I think it was intentionally the same size as it was, when 11 yo. Ben took it off. (11, because they both have their 11th birthday in the original show, so after that, Ben's 11)

I feel like the Echo Echo fight in the 2nd ep actually makes a lot of sense beyond Ben being out of experience. His last cloning alien, Ditto, would have no option but to tackle the dragon, so Ben's instincts were informed by that.
Except, if I remember correctly, I think I read somewhere that the showrunner of the UAF era retconned it so that Ben understands his alien's abilities right when he turns into them, not needing to figure out how they work

I think for that Omnitrix’s size inconsistency, Ben was 10 while in Classic series it means his hand and palms are smaller compared to his 15-16 self so omnitrix being small in teenage ben’s hand is a nice attention to detail

I really, REALLY loved Ben and Julie’s dynamic over the series of Alien Force. And it hurt to see it get shafted for the return of Kai, and worse, that their relationship was killed over a misunderstanding. Just wanted to throw this in considering that Julie helped characterize the person Ben is starting Alien Force, a more modest and friendly person than the brash and arrogant 10-Year-Old we grew to know.
When Ben got his attitude change in season 3 there relationship went downhill FAST and was incredibly inconsistent onwards especially in UA mainly because Ben was a dick to Julie and there relationship never was the same. It followed a pattern where Ben was a jerk, he promises to be a better boyfriend but he never got better. I'm not saying Omniverse completely getting rid of her was handled properly but at least she got a new boyfriend and a more satisfying conclusion for her.

Alien force, the DNAlien saga is the perfect example of a sequel series done right. It has flaws, but those flaws don't hinder it's success whilst simultaneously grounding it with a since of relatability with the characters and immersion. A true testament to the jump in story heavy series during that time and makes it all the more sad that we lost Dwayne Mcduffie.

@@ultimatebreak827 I recently rewatched the series, and being honest, AF S3 wasn't bad nor as bad as I remembered it It was actually a solid season, and had many good episodes and things. The 2-parters start and finale were pretty good. It gave us Rath, and the super underrated Lodestar. Kevin's arc during the season was solid, and had some strong moments. The Flashpoint episode was solid, showing us just how hard Gwen was trying without we even noticing. The Vreedles were amazing, "Don't Fear the Repo" was really fun (that moment the jury goes mad after hearing Baz-el hired the Vreedles lmfao. "THE VREEDLE BROTHERS?!? WHO ON THEIR RIGHT MIND HIRES THE VEDDLE BROTHERS TO RETRIEVE SOMEONE ALIVE?!?) Simple was another great episode. And the Gold Poop episode was ironically great, if you know the context of why they made it 🤣 Many people call it "filler" because all episodes are standalone, ignoring the fact that Ben 10 has been episodic since day 1 and it still was until the very end of OV. CN meddling is to blame for most of it's flaws. Like how WB screws DC or how Sony screwed Spider-Man 3. I'd say they did a solid job given the circumstances
I've always interpreted AF Kevin as sort of a honourable outlaw kind of guy. Sure, he's dealing in illegal arms and pretty much brutal etc, but when his morals are brought into question and he knows and believes that what he's doing is right, he chooses to stick by it until he sees it to the end and knowing he was stuck in null void and had a lot of time to think about what kind of person he wanted to be it would make sense that he wouldn't abandon who he is but along that he would be less reckless and have a sense of responsibility (a trait both classic Ben and Kevin lacked). So personally Kevin's change never felt fast to me, just a natural extension of his character.
Dude, you should watch the original series again. The amount of horrible things that Kevin tried to do is unforgivable, there is no way that a psychopath of that caliber could become a simple bad boy, it doesn't make sense. At least they would have shown those Ultimate Alien flashbacks in AF, but they don't even do that. From our perspective, Kevin became good out of nowhere.

I always appreciated how the first alien Ben uses is Swampfire, the closest thing we have to Heatblast, the first alien in classic. I also like the choice of the first 3 aliens, Swampfire, Echo Echo, Humungousaur. Echo Echo is a very strategic alien to use rather than brute force, where Humungousaur shows how Ben can still use hand to hand combat, and Swampfire is a good mix of the two.
Plus the first human alien hybrid we meet is a heatblast and ben while in the new "heatblast" form passes the baton to alan by teaching him how to better use his powers
So happy to know someone else noticed; I'd been fawning over this for years. Heatblast is my second favorite alien of the series, so seeing Swampfire be a spiritual successor was great.
I know it wasn't canon when the pilot was released but Kevin's decision to join the team makes even more sense when you realise magister Labrid isn't the first guardian/protective figure to die while protecting Kevin.

And the difference between his personality in classic and alien force is much bigger then 6 years difference ben in alien force feel like he is in university more than high school
It started off good, remained good in the middle and ended strongly I think. There obviously bad episodes in the mix, but I think Alien force is the strongest series of the pre reboot serieses

I love how Magister Labrid talks like a grizzled human detective. I think he and Alan would’ve made great permanent additions to the team. Labrid would bring his experience mixed with subtle naivety about how things work on Earth, while Alan would provide Ben with a young and inexperienced hero to pass his knowledge onto.
I don't know if this was just me but when I first watched “everyone talking about the weather” I thought Alan was gonna join the main team before the ending so I was excited. I think Alan had a lot of potential to be a great member of the main cast he isn't confident, he isn't completely in control of his abilities, and he has unique interactions with each character so he could develop a lot and since Ben is the more traditional hero type in Alien force him being a mentor to Alan would have been cool.
It’s weird despite being the name of the show The Alien Force doenst matter much in the grand scheme of things just the core trio. And later series aren’t any better. Manny and Helen don’t appear in Ultimate Alien, Alan only appears once, and Pierce only returns to get killed off. And none of them appear till over half way through Omniverse

I think the reason the masks seem like they’re rubbery when coming off is because they create an illusion of skin, it’s flexible. So when you take the mask off, it looks at first like you’re pulling their skin and then the illusion starts to break when you pull it far enough. So the mask itself is probably a rigid material but it creates the illusion of a flexible material.
Also almost every episode will get a 5 in importance. Only ones I’d say that won’t are “Kevin’s Big Score” (seems more like a 4 to me) “Be Knighted” and “The Gauntlet”
1:10:32 this scene shows some differences between Swampfire & Heatblast; Heatblast can practically nullify ice/metal attacks while Swampfire isnt hot enough & has to build up his heat to get it off.

Regrowing an arm would require a lot of your body’s resources go into shaping the limb and establishing the new connections and structure, but if the old arm is there, just reconnecting the few things that broke is much much easier

Can I just say that I find it really funny that in the show Kevin actively chooses that car colour, ben’s main colours from AF onwards I know it’s likely because of how recognisable it is as Kevin’s car for toys, but still
So to answer why Swampfire or his kind probably prefer to reattach rather than regrow or regenerate, well it's much easier to reattach a limb it takes less energy to just regrow small parts to attach the limb again than to regrow the whole limb and yes he's a plant he should technically not have to worry about energy and just Photosynthesize some more but it's night he either can't Photosynthesize or there's no sunlight for him to just regain energy to constantly heal, so basically his powers are far more limited at night but during the day he can heal almost infinitely
28:35 in my opinion omniverse helps to improve this moment even more than before because the way he said he can talk to Gwen any way he wants followed be his sudden pause and silence almost gives off the impression that he suddenly remembered the day when Malware killed Feedback and how he acted the exact same way towards Gwen right before it happened. And since at this point in the timeline Ben still hadn’t forgiven himself for what happened and was still choosing to bury the memory instead, his apology afterwards has a much more somber feel to it due to not wanting to be reminded of losing Feedback. It’s a great example on how some of the moments in omniverse with 11 year old Ben were able to expand further on the lore.
35:50 I have a theory about the robot Dragon. In one of the later episodes of the season (I believe Episode 10) it’s revealed that the forever knights were after aliens tech in order to kill a dragon. If so, then perhaps they built the dragon as a test dummy so that if their alien tech can beat the robot it can be used on the dragon, but if not then they realize that it won’t work.
But then why not use that Robot Dragon against the real thing, if weapons/tactics used against it are determined successful if it's defeated ? Not saying using only the robot, but adding it to the "strike team"
One thing you might have missed is, we all though Allen was Ben at the start of that episode because of the plumber badge but it was dramatic for us to see Allen instead of Ben since Half-breeds were still a new thing in Ben 10

When doing these flips it's common for people to use their butt as a lever to and their leg to make people love their balance, which is what Gwen is doing in that scene, also that guy doesn't seem much heavier than her. This is pointless, but since Kuro pointed it out I felt like making this comment.
Either Gwen is exceptionally skilled and/or they are both competetive physically. Both options are extremely likely so Kuro pointing it out seems like he misjudged the scene, but it don't matter to me.

@@thedivineshadow451 Yes, he's clearly much heavier than she is, but the entire point of Judo is to use leverage to minimize the need for strength. A very small person, smaller than Gwen, could easily flip a very large person, larger than that guy there, with minimal effort if they have good enough technique. They don't need to be moving towards you to do this as Kuro stated and many cartoons claim, it's really just a matter of positioning and letting gravity do the work, muscle is hardly a factor at all. Of course no one is perfect, and a skilled opponent will always provide enough resistance to make things difficult so strength is still more often than not very relevant here, but in this case I think Gwen just straight up outclassed that dude.
@@Something775 all the videos of different types of throws I have seen in martial arts the thrower uses their body in a way like once they pick up the person they lay them onto them in the in-between state before throwing them on the floor, like when they use the shoulder throw the person ends up picked up and then on the others back then they get flipped off their back onto the floor, but what we see Gwen do is literally pick him up perfectly in the air and flip him, no touching on her body just lift and flip, and I don't think theres any technique to that besides literal strength

When Gwen is making a shield you can see the background easier, they're probably all fully drawn but then they turned the brightness all the way down to the point where it's mostly black shapes
28:17 See, one thing I dislike about this episode is how quickly Kevin is infatuated with Gwen. I get that they are gonna end up together, but it feels rushed how quickly Kevin becomes a Gwen simp. Guess her Alien Force design had that effect on many people. This should've been something that arrives organically in later episodes. I like Kevin jumping to defend her, but it's something the show has to earn. Omniverse kind of validates it a little by setting up that they might have had a mutual crush on each other as kids, but it's not that believable, and we didn't have that when this episode first aired. Edit: Same goes for Gwen falling into Kevin's arms. Right now to her he's the sociopath who tried to murder her several times, his touch shouldn't be comforting. Exactly my feelings The episode felt off to me maybe bcuz of his quick redemption but when I think about it, its actually Kevin simpin for Gwen and Gwen too very conveniently, for the sake of the ship, just liking him back I want to like this ship tho, but its just not done well :/
Well, if you read some of Dwayne Mcduffie's interviews, he stated that kevin had a lot of girlfriends by the time he escaped null void. So to explain the scenes where kevin is very infatuated over gwen, that's just his inner playboy self trying to flirt with gwen.

He can shoot and breathe fire like Heatblast and he's a plant man like Wildvine that can stretch their limbs. However, unlike Heatblast, Swampfire can't - Generate flames to different degrees of heat - Absorb flames - Create explosions at will (Swampfire has to produce methane gas to do this) - Burn anything he sits on Unlike Wildvine, Swampfire can - Regenerate himself - Control plants and plant like creatures - Summon plants by throwing seeds into the ground (Wildvine can only summon plants by planting his own body into the ground) - Produce gas Also complaining about AF aliens taking away the diversity in the omnitrix is silly given that by the end of Omniverse, Ben has - 6 electric aliens - 2 aliens that can fire energy after eating something - 2 radiation based aliens - 2 aliens that can wrestke - 2 fire aliens - 2 aliens that can scrap or rebuild machines into more powerful versions - 2 aliens that can absorb energy - Tons of aliens that possess super strength - Tons of aliens that can fly While Lodestar and Gravattack possess completely different abilities, Gravattack pretty much render Lodestar obsolete

Those "differences" between the aliens are either straight up wrong, aren't even really differences, or they are pointless minuscule details that don't matter in the grand scheme of this discussion like Heatblast burning stuff he sits on. That's just reaching for differences, and how silly it is actually does more to weaken the point you're making because you have to resort to saying shit like that to defend them being different. For the function of the character, the powers are almost identical. You just started wording the powers differently to make them look separate. Making explosions with gas is still counted as making explosions at will, you're just describing how he does it, that doesn't make it work differently as that never makes a difference in the show. They both blow things up with fire, it ends there. And Wildvine can totally regenerate wtf lol, and he can control plants, he literally fuses with a tree at one point. Then the list about Omniverse overlaps is a moot point anyway because the redundancy of his overlapping alien powers was literally _because_ of UAF and Omniverse reusing alien powers, the OS didn't do that, so you're just going against your own point. No matter how you spin it, way too many UAF aliens rip off powers from old ones.
The creators messed up when it came to the aesthetic of magic in Alien Force. They could've had spells be different colors, while pure mana could be just pink. But they really decided to have all magic be pink throughout UAF. They even refused to have Hex do any magic whatsoever so he didn't have to use pink energy too, when it was an easy fix. Pure mana=pink Magic=different colors due to alterations of the mana's use
I like how small the original Omnitrix is draw here. The classic series designers said they drew it bigger because it is an adult sized watch on a child's arm, so you could argue it's the same size but Ben's arms have more adult proportions and bigger hands and that's why it's smaller.
I think one of the biggest reasons why Kevin joined up in the beginning was because of Labrys (Or Labris, however you spell it) saving his life. Just the quiet, "I owe you one" to the response of "Yeah, you do." coupled with the almost immediate death of the Magister pushed him to try to help Ben and Gwen out, even if he was kind of uncomfortable with it.
When I was a kid, my local movie theatre used a slightly edited down version of "Everybody Talks About the Weather" as a preview for basically every movie aimed at kids, along with the Cammie Island episode of Flapjack. So, yeah, of every episode of Ben 10, ETAtW is the one I've seen the most. And I'm grateful for that; it really was great.
One thing I loved about Alan episode is that It wasn’t revealed the heatblast is Alan not Ben in the start, so og fans might just think of that scene as Ben being Heatblast and getting hold of things again but in reality there is totally different person being the heatblast
@@skibot9974 I mean I understand, but it's also important to acknowledge that 5 YEARS have passed. So kinda makes sense to me, and this what makes this starting so appealing to me as well. The time gap is one of the things why I love UAF.
Gonna be honest, I was one of those people that really didn’t like Alien Force when it first came out. I loved the original series but this series just didn’t have the same charm I felt. The writing and dialogue felt a lot more emotionless and it wasn’t as funny as the first series. But mainly my problem was that the first episode felt just so alienating with how much it seemingly contradicted what we already knew and didn’t explain anything. Like how did Ben get the Omnitrix off in the first place when it was supposed to be nearly impossible? Why is Kevin not stuck in the Null Void and how is he normal again when they said he couldn’t change back? Also why are Kevin’s powers different when his power was to absorb energy, not matter? And why did Ben immediately know what to call his new alien and know how to use it right away? I get that they explained this all eventually, but I didn’t think they would at the time and it felt like there were too many retcons right away, so it just turned me off the show. Of course now with hindsight I don’t mind the changes anymore, but at the time, as someone who watched the original show religiously it really made me sad that this new show felt like it was ignoring everything that came before it. I’m not saying that makes this show bad or anything, that’s just what I felt at the time. Now I think it’s great. But if I had my way I would have at least explained a few things through off handed comments or introduce these changes over multiple episodes. Idk just my 2 cents.
For me, I always did feel something was off about Alien Force that I loved about the OS. The alien transformations being one of them. And call me nostalgic, but I much rather prefer the design of the Omnitrix in the OS and reboot more than the Alien Force design. It looked more interesting to me that way.
I get what you mean, coming from someone who grew up loving AF it still did feel weird that there was all these initially unexplained changes. I do feel that they just decided to initially retcon stuff to fit their version of the story and not really care to explain it until much later on which does feel somewhat disingenuous to the original show, which is sometimes what happens when a new crew are brought on to continue the story of an existing series, changes will be made that sometimes even go against the original vision, not to say that Mcduffie and crew did a bad job or were disrespectful to the legacy, as I love AF and fully embrace and admire these changes, for example, Kevin being a good guy isn’t an idea I’d imagine the original team would go for, but Mcduffie and crew went for it and made it work as Kevin is one of the shows best qualities. I’m rambling, point is, I was baffled by these changes too, but did learn to appreciate them.
Ben knowing how to use the aliens well is literally how the omnitrix was built. The omnitrix makes it's user know the basic abilities of whatever dna sample it acquires without training.
Kinda wished they kept Alan on the main team. It would've been great to have youngster looking up to Ben like a mentor. ( Kinda giving Ben a Mile Morals character )

I think part of why Ben is able to use the abilities of these new aliens so easily and so quickly is because a lot of the original ten alien force aliens are very similar to classic aliens, Swamp Fire has a plant form like Wild Vine and fire powers like heat blast, both powers are familiar to Ben. Echo echo’s duplication is similar to ditto, humongusaur’s size changing ability is like way big, etc. So Ben is already familiar with the types of abilities his aliens have and how to use them, when he’s in each form he can probably feel similar organic mechanisms in his alien bodies and recognize the type of ability it has.
@@raza3434 Maybe the form change has something to do with it? During the in-between from classic to AF it was in it's original form, only changing when Ben put it on. Perhaps it can be detected differently in this new form, explaining that from S3.
Back when alien force first came out, I always though Swampfire was a fusion of Heatblast and Wildvine. I thought "Wow they're gonna make alien fusions more prominent!" I was very wrong and disappointed as a kid.

Everyone jokes about when Diamondhead got shattered but in universe Gwen mentioned "we don't know what will happen" but Diamondhead can clearly survive in that state with not even so much as discomfort. Humungousaur and Clockwork both suffer the consequences of what happens to them.

I guess in AF they were trying to be experimental with those ideas and then somehow in UA they decided to bring that idea back. It's one of those ideas that actually makes sense but I just didn't like it.
I always assumed that the DNAlien in the hologram was a DNAlien disgused as Max, that's why A) he said he had the omnitrix, so Ben 10, an already known threat to the highbreeds, would stay away and B) explain the DNAlien in the rust bucket, he was the one that put the message there

Diamondhead only has the power to generate his crystals, and some mid level regen (plus the usual strength, durability, etc) Chromastone tho, bruh, that guy got a shit ton of abilities. Strength nearly equal to Humongusaur, energy absorption, energy manipulation being able to generate or transform anything into anything (he could get blasted by just electricity and shoot gamma rays out), fligth, massively faster than light speeds (calcs make it over 73,000 times speed of light), being able to bring back from the death a whole planet, shooting crystallizing beams, being basically Crystalline Space Jesus, and Tetrax said he could do even more than just that.
My head cannon for the reason the omnitrix messes up (like the hologram facing the wrong way, giving Ben the wrong alien, and timing out at weird times) is because it’s capable of breaking the 4th wall and does everything to make the show interesting
I always assumed that the when the Omnitrix reclaibrated,it fixed a few issues such as the dial appearing in random places but it also created a few issues such as the clothes not appearing. Kinda like a bug fixing patch that patches some stuff yet creates new ones

I never noticed the theme song is the same but slowed down! That's amazing- good catch! Also I like to think that Gwen's magic (and all magic in the show) is just a form of reality manipulation that anodises are especially good at due to their natural abundance of mana. Kind of like how Thor says 'your ancestors called it magic and you call it science' thing.
Random thing, but a long time ago, I was cleaning out my closet. As I was, I found a shoe box that looked familiar. I pulled it out, open it, and found my classic Omnitrix toy from when I was younger. Everytime I watch that scene of Ben grabbing his Omnitrix out of that box, I'm always reminded of that experience

Man did watching these episodes take me back. In Canada, we didn't get Ben 10 Alien Force until September of 2008, but I remember it being a big thing! There were bumpers (That are now lost media) that showcased the new aliens, a marathon of season 4, which lead into the movie premiere of Race Against Time. It originally came out on Sunday mornings, but I want to say around the second season, it found a spot on Friday nights. As much as I love the original show, Alien Force will always hold a special place in my childhood.
New intro gives me chills, the way it glitch and recalibrate just like omnitrix is genius, my excitement level is in whole new level, love your work and videos....
Looking at how they started Alien Force, it really gets me thinking, what did the writers have in mind originally for why Ben took off the Omnitrix? Sure we know now he took it off because of what happened with Feedback but that definitely wasn't what the AF writers had in mind, so it begs the question of what reasoning they had in mind at the time, if any at all.
That's a popular misconception. Ben didn't take off his Omnitrix because of Feedback. That was a story idea by the writers who decided against this being the main reason Ben took off the Omnitrix. I mean, sure it makes sense to me that Ben would take off his Omnitrix because of Feedback but that's not the case.
@@shinysamurott613 No doubt about that. Ben was pretty depressed after losing Feedback so it definitely was a factor in his life as a hero but that wasn't the reason of him removing the Omnitrix.
My headcanon is probably him choosing to have normal teenage life. Maybe Max also told him that the plumbers will be overseeing Earth in case any alien threat happens so it is fine for Ben to take a retirement.

There's got to be something bigger at play that caused Ben to take off the Omnitrix. The writers even teased that it's something big, possibly bigger than Feedback that it was because of that reason that Ben decided to let go of the Omnitrix. Besides, Ben removed it when he was around either 11 or 12. And at that time I don't see why Ben would want to choose a normal life by himself if nothing big happened. Plus, I doubt that Max would have a problem with Ben's Omnitrix. That's not like Max to tell Ben to remove the Omnitrix, whatever the reason may be.
The whole ‘Max knew his message would be intercepted’ makes complete sense if you take into consideration the ‘Max is the Paul DNAlien’ theory. Max somehow finds out about the Hybreeds, and that they might be after the Omnitrix. He leaves the message for the DNAliens, with the hidden meaning for Ben. He goes and snitches on himself, so that they’ll go to his RV, where they’ll hopefully find the message and ignore Ben.
I wonder if, in the original series, "Ben 10" is to Ben Tennyson what "ScarJo" is to Scarlett Johannson - i.e. a nickname used by his fans. Ben himself may never have heard it used because aside from his enemies, he never seems to meet anyone more than once. Even if Gwen and/or Max heard it, not only would they not have any reason to call him anything other than Ben, but they also wouldn't want to stoke his ego. As for his enemies, if they ever knew him as "Ben 10", they might still stick to "Tennyson" just because they don't respect him enough to use his 'title'.
Can we all just appreciate all the work Kuro and the Ink Tank put into these Ben 10 Breakdown videos. Even though we won’t be getting as many episodes per breakdown, I applaud everyone involved for being able to consistently putt out high quality videos
it's interesting to see that "Everybody Talks About the Weather" got a perfect score. Because, like, this is the second episode I like least about the first season (Hello, episode 9). 58:21 Gwen's knee randomly switches to being sharp. Literally seconds before you can see that it's rounded, but in the next cut, her knee is drawn with a sharp angle. Really strange that they'd do that, especially sine it means they completely redrew Gwen when the frame before it was at the same angle. (Also unrelated, but I think her tights are just more "see-through" in this scene. If you look at the shade color on her face and the high light color of her tights (which if they were skin they'd be the same color) the tights highlight is actually darker (confirmed by Photoshop eyedropper))

I feel like the Echo Echo fight in the 2nd ep actually makes a lot of sense beyond Ben being out of experience. His last cloning alien, Ditto, would have no option but to tackle the dragon, so Ben's instincts were informed by that.
Except, if I remember correctly, I think I read somewhere that the showrunner of the UAF era retconned it so that Ben understands his alien's abilities right when he turns into them, not needing to figure out how they work

I think for that Omnitrix’s size inconsistency, Ben was 10 while in Classic series it means his hand and palms are smaller compared to his 15-16 self so omnitrix being small in teenage ben’s hand is a nice attention to detail

I really, REALLY loved Ben and Julie’s dynamic over the series of Alien Force. And it hurt to see it get shafted for the return of Kai, and worse, that their relationship was killed over a misunderstanding. Just wanted to throw this in considering that Julie helped characterize the person Ben is starting Alien Force, a more modest and friendly person than the brash and arrogant 10-Year-Old we grew to know.
When Ben got his attitude change in season 3 there relationship went downhill FAST and was incredibly inconsistent onwards especially in UA mainly because Ben was a dick to Julie and there relationship never was the same. It followed a pattern where Ben was a jerk, he promises to be a better boyfriend but he never got better. I'm not saying Omniverse completely getting rid of her was handled properly but at least she got a new boyfriend and a more satisfying conclusion for her.

Alien force, the DNAlien saga is the perfect example of a sequel series done right. It has flaws, but those flaws don't hinder it's success whilst simultaneously grounding it with a since of relatability with the characters and immersion. A true testament to the jump in story heavy series during that time and makes it all the more sad that we lost Dwayne Mcduffie.
And then we got season 3

I recently rewatched the series, and being honest, AF S3 wasn't bad nor as bad as I remembered it
It was actually a solid season, and had many good episodes and things.
The 2-parters start and finale were pretty good.
It gave us Rath, and the super underrated Lodestar.
Kevin's arc during the season was solid, and had some strong moments.
The Flashpoint episode was solid, showing us just how hard Gwen was trying without we even noticing.
The Vreedles were amazing, "Don't Fear the Repo" was really fun (that moment the jury goes mad after hearing Baz-el hired the Vreedles lmfao. "THE VREEDLE BROTHERS?!? WHO ON THEIR RIGHT MIND HIRES THE VEDDLE BROTHERS TO RETRIEVE SOMEONE ALIVE?!?)
Simple was another great episode.
And the Gold Poop episode was ironically great, if you know the context of why they made it 🤣
Many people call it "filler" because all episodes are standalone, ignoring the fact that Ben 10 has been episodic since day 1 and it still was until the very end of OV.
CN meddling is to blame for most of it's flaws. Like how WB screws DC or how Sony screwed Spider-Man 3.

I've always interpreted AF Kevin as sort of a honourable outlaw kind of guy. Sure, he's dealing in illegal arms and pretty much brutal etc, but when his morals are brought into question and he knows and believes that what he's doing is right, he chooses to stick by it until he sees it to the end and knowing he was stuck in null void and had a lot of time to think about what kind of person he wanted to be it would make sense that he wouldn't abandon who he is but along that he would be less reckless and have a sense of responsibility (a trait both classic Ben and Kevin lacked). So personally Kevin's change never felt fast to me, just a natural extension of his character.

Dude, you should watch the original series again. The amount of horrible things that Kevin tried to do is unforgivable, there is no way that a psychopath of that caliber could become a simple bad boy, it doesn't make sense. At least they would have shown those Ultimate Alien flashbacks in AF, but they don't even do that. From our perspective, Kevin became good out of nowhere.

I always appreciated how the first alien Ben uses is Swampfire, the closest thing we have to Heatblast, the first alien in classic.
I also like the choice of the first 3 aliens, Swampfire, Echo Echo, Humungousaur. Echo Echo is a very strategic alien to use rather than brute force, where Humungousaur shows how Ben can still use hand to hand combat, and Swampfire is a good mix of the two.
Plus the first human alien hybrid we meet is a heatblast and ben while in the new "heatblast" form passes the baton to alan by teaching him how to better use his powers
The first ultimate alien ben transforms into is ultimate swampfire, love that

It started off good, remained good in the middle and ended strongly I think. There obviously bad episodes in the mix, but I think Alien force is the strongest series of the pre reboot serieses

I love how Magister Labrid talks like a grizzled human detective. I think he and Alan would’ve made great permanent additions to the team. Labrid would bring his experience mixed with subtle naivety about how things work on Earth, while Alan would provide Ben with a young and inexperienced hero to pass his knowledge onto.

I don't know if this was just me but when I first watched “everyone talking about the weather” I thought Alan was gonna join the main team before the ending so I was excited. I think Alan had a lot of potential to be a great member of the main cast he isn't confident, he isn't completely in control of his abilities, and he has unique interactions with each character so he could develop a lot and since Ben is the more traditional hero type in Alien force him being a mentor to Alan would have been cool.
It’s weird despite being the name of the show The Alien Force doenst matter much in the grand scheme of things just the core trio. And later series aren’t any better. Manny and Helen don’t appear in Ultimate Alien, Alan only appears once, and Pierce only returns to get killed off. And none of them appear till over half way through Omniverse

I think the reason the masks seem like they’re rubbery when coming off is because they create an illusion of skin, it’s flexible. So when you take the mask off, it looks at first like you’re pulling their skin and then the illusion starts to break when you pull it far enough. So the mask itself is probably a rigid material but it creates the illusion of a flexible material.
Season 1's gonna get a lot of 5's in visuals, the Morningstar episode for one has some gorgeously animated action scenes
God Gwen’s hair looks so good in that episode. I’m guessing the reason she has a ponytail later on is cause it must have been expensive to animate.

Pretty simple answer to your question Kuro. It’s easier and takes less energy to attach the severed arm back where it came off than it is to regrow one. Regrowing an arm would require a lot of your body’s resources go into shaping the limb and establishing the new connections and structure, but if the old arm is there, just reconnecting the few things that broke is much much easier

So to answer why Swampfire or his kind probably prefer to reattach rather than regrow or regenerate, well it's much easier to reattach a limb it takes less energy to just regrow small parts to attach the limb again than to regrow the whole limb and yes he's a plant he should technically not have to worry about energy and just Photosynthesize some more but it's night he either can't Photosynthesize or there's no sunlight for him to just regain energy to constantly heal, so basically his powers are far more limited at night but during the day he can heal almost infinitely
28:35 in my opinion omniverse helps to improve this moment even more than before because the way he said he can talk to Gwen any way he wants followed be his sudden pause and silence almost gives off the impression that he suddenly remembered the day when Malware killed Feedback and how he acted the exact same way towards Gwen right before it happened. And since at this point in the timeline Ben still hadn’t forgiven himself for what happened and was still choosing to bury the memory instead, his apology afterwards has a much more somber feel to it due to not wanting to be reminded of losing Feedback.
It’s a great example on how some of the moments in omniverse with 11 year old Ben were able to expand further on the lore.

35:50 I have a theory about the robot Dragon. In one of the later episodes of the season (I believe Episode 10) it’s revealed that the forever knights were after aliens tech in order to kill a dragon. If so, then perhaps they built the dragon as a test dummy so that if their alien tech can beat the robot it can be used on the dragon, but if not then they realize that it won’t work.
But then why not use that Robot Dragon against the real thing, if weapons/tactics used against it are determined successful if it's defeated ? Not saying using only the robot, but adding it to the "strike team"

One thing you might have missed is, we all though Allen was Ben at the start of that episode because of the plumber badge but it was dramatic for us to see Allen instead of Ben since Half-breeds were still a new thing in Ben 10

When doing these flips it's common for people to use their butt as a lever to and their leg to make people love their balance, which is what Gwen is doing in that scene, also that guy doesn't seem much heavier than her. Either Gwen is exceptionally skilled and/or they are both competetive physically. Both options are extremely likely so Kuro pointing it out seems like he misjudged the scene, but it don't matter to me.

@@thedivineshadow451 Yes, he's clearly much heavier than she is, but the entire point of Judo is to use leverage to minimize the need for strength. A very small person, smaller than Gwen, could easily flip a very large person, larger than that guy there, with minimal effort if they have good enough technique. They don't need to be moving towards you to do this as Kuro stated and many cartoons claim, it's really just a matter of positioning and letting gravity do the work, muscle is hardly a factor at all. Of course no one is perfect, and a skilled opponent will always provide enough resistance to make things difficult so strength is still more often than not very relevant here, but in this case I think Gwen just straight up outclassed that dude.
@@Something775 all the videos of different types of throws I have seen in martial arts the thrower uses their body in a way like once they pick up the person they lay them onto them in the in-between state before throwing them on the floor, like when they use the shoulder throw the person ends up picked up and then on the others back then they get flipped off their back onto the floor, but what we see Gwen do is literally pick him up perfectly in the air and flip him, no touching on her body just lift and flip, and I don't think theres any technique to that besides literal strength

28:17 See, one thing I dislike about this episode is how quickly Kevin is infatuated with Gwen. I get that they are gonna end up together, but it feels rushed how quickly Kevin becomes a Gwen simp. Guess her Alien Force design had that effect on many people.
This should've been something that arrives organically in later episodes. I like Kevin jumping to defend her, but it's something the show has to earn. Omniverse kind of validates it a little by setting up that they might have had a mutual crush on each other as kids, but it's not that believable, and we didn't have that when this episode first aired.
Edit: Same goes for Gwen falling into Kevin's arms. Right now to her he's the sociopath who tried to murder her several times, his touch shouldn't be comforting.

Well, if you read some of Dwayne Mcduffie's interviews, he stated that kevin had a lot of girlfriends by the time he escaped null void. So to explain the scenes where kevin is very infatuated over gwen, that's just his inner playboy self trying to flirt with gwen.

Swampfire has little in common with those 2. He can shoot and breathe fire like Heatblast and he's a plant man like Wildvine that can stretch their limbs. However, unlike Heatblast, Swampfire can't
- Generate flames to different degrees of heat
- Absorb flames
- Create explosions at will (Swampfire has to produce methane gas to do this)
- Burn anything he sits on
Unlike Wildvine, Swampfire can
- Regenerate himself
- Control plants and plant like creatures
- Summon plants by throwing seeds into the ground (Wildvine can only summon plants by planting his own body into the ground)
- Produce gas
Also complaining about AF aliens taking away the diversity in the omnitrix is silly given that by the end of Omniverse, Ben has
- 6 electric aliens
- 2 aliens that can fire energy after eating something
- 2 radiation based aliens
- 2 aliens that can wrestke
- 2 fire aliens
- 2 aliens that can scrap or rebuild machines into more powerful versions
- 2 aliens that can absorb energy
- Tons of aliens that possess super strength
- Tons of aliens that can fly
While Lodestar and Gravattack possess completely different abilities, Gravattack pretty much render Lodestar obsolete

Those "differences" between the aliens are either straight up wrong, aren't even really differences, or they are pointless minuscule details that don't matter in the grand scheme of this discussion like Heatblast burning stuff he sits on. That's just reaching for differences, and how silly it is actually does more to weaken the point you're making because you have to resort to saying shit like that to defend them being different. For the function of the character, the powers are almost identical. You just started wording the powers differently to make them look separate. Making explosions with gas is still counted as making explosions at will, you're just describing how he does it, that doesn't make it work differently as that never makes a difference in the show. They both blow things up with fire, it ends there. And Wildvine can totally regenerate wtf lol, and he can control plants, he literally fuses with a tree at one point. Then the list about Omniverse overlaps is a moot point anyway because the redundancy of his overlapping alien powers was literally _because_ of UAF and Omniverse reusing alien powers, the OS didn't do that, so you're just going against your own point. No matter how you spin it, way too many UAF aliens rip off powers from old ones.
The creators messed up when it came to the aesthetic of magic in Alien Force. They could've had spells be different colors, while pure mana could be just pink. But they really decided to have all magic be pink throughout UAF. They even refused to have Hex do any magic whatsoever so he didn't have to use pink energy too, when it was an easy fix.

I like how small the original Omnitrix is draw here. The classic series designers said they drew it bigger because it is an adult sized watch on a child's arm, so you could argue it's the same size but Ben's arms have more adult proportions and bigger hands and that's why it's smaller.
I think one of the biggest reasons why Kevin joined up in the beginning was because of Labrys (Or Labris, however you spell it) saving his life. Just the quiet, "I owe you one" to the response of "Yeah, you do." coupled with the almost immediate death of the Magister pushed him to try to help Ben and Gwen out, even if he was kind of uncomfortable with it.
Which seems pretty odd for a weapons dealer who puld be use to throwing people under the bus.
When I was a kid, my local movie theatre used a slightly edited down version of "Everybody Talks About the Weather" as a preview for basically every movie aimed at kids, along with the Cammie Island episode of Flapjack. So, yeah, of every episode of Ben 10, ETAtW is the one I've seen the most. And I'm grateful for that; it really was great.

@@skibot9974 I mean I understand, but it's also important to acknowledge that 5 YEARS have passed. So kinda makes sense to me, and this what makes this starting so appealing to me as well. The time gap is one of the things why I love UAF.
Gonna be honest, I was one of those people that really didn’t like Alien Force when it first came out. I loved the original series but this series just didn’t have the same charm I felt. The writing and dialogue felt a lot more emotionless and it wasn’t as funny as the first series. But mainly my problem was that the first episode felt just so alienating with how much it seemingly contradicted what we already knew and didn’t explain anything. Like how did Ben get the Omnitrix off in the first place when it was supposed to be nearly impossible? Why is Kevin not stuck in the Null Void and how is he normal again when they said he couldn’t change back? Also why are Kevin’s powers different when his power was to absorb energy, not matter? And why did Ben immediately know what to call his new alien and know how to use it right away? I get that they explained this all eventually, but I didn’t think they would at the time and it felt like there were too many retcons right away, so it just turned me off the show. Of course now with hindsight I don’t mind the changes anymore, but at the time, as someone who watched the original show religiously it really made me sad that this new show felt like it was ignoring everything that came before it. I’m not saying that makes this show bad or anything, that’s just what I felt at the time. Now I think it’s great. But if I had my way I would have at least explained a few things through off handed comments or introduce these changes over multiple episodes. Idk just my 2 cents.
For me, I always did feel something was off about Alien Force that I loved about the OS. The alien transformations being one of them. And call me nostalgic, but I much rather prefer the design of the Omnitrix in the OS and reboot more than the Alien Force design. It looked more interesting to me that way.
I get what you mean, coming from someone who grew up loving AF it still did feel weird that there was all these initially unexplained changes. I do feel that they just decided to initially retcon stuff to fit their version of the story and not really care to explain it until much later on which does feel somewhat disingenuous to the original show, which is sometimes what happens when a new crew are brought on to continue the story of an existing series, changes will be made that sometimes even go against the original vision, not to say that Mcduffie and crew did a bad job or were disrespectful to the legacy, as I love AF and fully embrace and admire these changes, for example, Kevin being a good guy isn’t an idea I’d imagine the original team would go for, but Mcduffie and crew went for it and made it work as Kevin is one of the shows best qualities. I’m rambling, point is, I was baffled by these changes too, but did learn to appreciate them.

Ben knowing how to use the aliens well is literally how the omnitrix was built. The omnitrix makes it's user know the basic abilities of whatever dna sample it acquires without training.

I think part of why Ben is able to use the abilities of these new aliens so easily and so quickly is because a lot of the original ten alien force aliens are very similar to classic aliens, Swamp Fire has a plant form like Wild Vine and fire powers like heat blast, both powers are familiar to Ben. Echo echo’s duplication is similar to ditto, humongusaur’s size changing ability is like way big, etc. So Ben is already familiar with the types of abilities his aliens have and how to use them, when he’s in each form he can probably feel similar organic mechanisms in his alien bodies and recognize the type of ability it has.

Back when alien force first came out, I always though Swampfire was a fusion of Heatblast and Wildvine. I thought "Wow they're gonna make alien fusions more prominent!" I was very wrong and disappointed as a kid.

Everyone jokes about when Diamondhead got shattered but in universe Gwen mentioned "we don't know what will happen" but Diamondhead can clearly survive in that state with not even so much as discomfort. Humungousaur and Clockwork both suffer the consequences of what happens to them.

I always assumed that the DNAlien in the hologram was a DNAlien disgused as Max, that's why A) he said he had the omnitrix, so Ben 10, an already known threat to the highbreeds, would stay away and B) explain the DNAlien in the rust bucket, he was the one that put the message there

Diamondhead only has the power to generate his crystals, and some mid level regen (plus the usual strength, durability, etc)
Chromastone tho, bruh, that guy got a shit ton of abilities. Strength nearly equal to Humongusaur, energy absorption, energy manipulation being able to generate or transform anything into anything (he could get blasted by just electricity and shoot gamma rays out), fligth, massively faster than light speeds (calcs make it over 73,000 times speed of light), being able to bring back from the death a whole planet, shooting crystallizing beams, being basically Crystalline Space Jesus, and Tetrax said he could do even more than just that.
It was retconned that the updated omnitrix just shows him how it works. Its literally mentioned in the video lol

My head cannon for the reason the omnitrix messes up (like the hologram facing the wrong way, giving Ben the wrong alien, and timing out at weird times) is because it’s capable of breaking the 4th wall and does everything to make the show interesting
I always assumed that the when the Omnitrix reclaibrated,it fixed a few issues such as the dial appearing in random places but it also created a few issues such as the clothes not appearing. Kinda like a bug fixing patch that patches some stuff yet creates new ones

Also I like to think that Gwen's magic (and all magic in the show) is just a form of reality manipulation that anodises are especially good at due to their natural abundance of mana. Random thing, but a long time ago, I was cleaning out my closet. As I was, I found a shoe box that looked familiar. I pulled it out, open it, and found my classic Omnitrix toy from when I was younger. Everytime I watch that scene of Ben grabbing his Omnitrix out of that box, I'm always reminded of that experience

I think when labrid takes off his ID mask he’s not expecting Ben and Gwen to be grossed out but he expected them to recognise that he’s a plumber (seen as though they would know more than the general public if ones holding the omnitrix) and surrender to his authority!

Man did watching these episodes take me back. In Canada, we didn't get Ben 10 Alien Force until September of 2008, but I remember it being a big thing! There were bumpers (That are now lost media) that showcased the new aliens, a marathon of season 4, which lead into the movie premiere of Race Against Time. It originally came out on Sunday mornings, but I want to say around the second season, it found a spot on Friday nights. As much as I love the original show, Alien Force will always hold a special place in my childhood.
New intro gives me chills, the way it glitch and recalibrate just like omnitrix is genius, my excitement level is in whole new level, love your work and videos....

Looking at how they started Alien Force, it really gets me thinking, what did the writers have in mind originally for why Ben took off the Omnitrix? Sure we know now he took it off because of what happened with Feedback but that definitely wasn't what the AF writers had in mind, so it begs the question of what reasoning they had in mind at the time, if any at all.
That's a popular misconception. Ben didn't take off his Omnitrix because of Feedback. That was a story idea by the writers who decided against this being the main reason Ben took off the Omnitrix. I mean, sure it makes sense to me that Ben would take off his Omnitrix because of Feedback but that's not the case.

@@shinysamurott613 No doubt about that. Ben was pretty depressed after losing Feedback so it definitely was a factor in his life as a hero but that wasn't the reason of him removing the Omnitrix.
My headcanon is probably him choosing to have normal teenage life. Maybe Max also told him that the plumbers will be overseeing Earth in case any alien threat happens so it is fine for Ben to take a retirement.
@@ardzzz1010 I don't know. Ben doesn't seem like the kind of person simply wanting to choose a normal life out of the blue. There's got to be something bigger at play that caused Ben to take off the Omnitrix. The writers even teased that it's something big, possibly bigger than Feedback that it was because of that reason that Ben decided to let go of the Omnitrix. Besides, Ben removed it when he was around either 11 or 12. And at that time I don't see why Ben would want to choose a normal life by himself if nothing big happened. Plus, I doubt that Max would have a problem with Ben's Omnitrix. That's not like Max to tell Ben to remove the Omnitrix, whatever the reason may be.
The whole ‘Max knew his message would be intercepted’ makes complete sense if you take into consideration the ‘Max is the Paul DNAlien’ theory.
Max somehow finds out about the Hybreeds, and that they might be after the Omnitrix. He leaves the message for the DNAliens, with the hidden meaning for Ben. He goes and snitches on himself, so that they’ll go to his RV, where they’ll hopefully find the message and ignore Ben.
New intro. New custom omnitrix. New backdrop. Sick ass new hair.

The first two seasons had a story arc of the Highbreed Invasion. The third season was all one-shot adventures.

I wonder if, in the original series, "Ben 10" is to Ben Tennyson what "ScarJo" is to Scarlett Johannson - i.e. a nickname used by his fans.
Ben himself may never have heard it used because aside from his enemies, he never seems to meet anyone more than once.
Even if Gwen and/or Max heard it, not only would they not have any reason to call him anything other than Ben, but they also wouldn't want to stoke his ego.
As for his enemies, if they ever knew him as "Ben 10", they might still stick to "Tennyson" just because they don't respect him enough to use his 'title'.
Can we all just appreciate all the work Kuro and the Ink Tank put into these Ben 10 Breakdown videos. Even though we won’t be getting as many episodes per breakdown, I applaud everyone involved for being able to consistently putt out high quality videos
it's interesting to see that "Everybody Talks About the Weather" got a perfect score. Because, like, this is the second episode I like least about the first season (Hello, episode 9). Not that it's bad, but I think the rest are better. It's always nice to see the opinion of others about something I have an opposite view.
As glad as I am that this was finally able to be released, I'm ecstatic that you've made it clear what your intentions are for the moment and beyond. Wish you nothing but goodwill on your health and projects!

58:21 Gwen's knee randomly switches to being sharp. Literally seconds before you can see that it's rounded, but in the next cut, her knee is drawn with a sharp angle. Really strange that they'd do that, especially sine it means they completely redrew Gwen when the frame before it was at the same angle.
(Also unrelated, but I think her tights are just more "see-through" in this scene. If you look at the shade color on her face and the high light color of her tights (which if they were skin they'd be the same color) the tights highlight is actually darker (confirmed by Photoshop eyedropper))
So excited for your Alien Force videos. I remember when this came out. I was so excited!!
