@@marilyntaylor9577 Probably because he was adopted. Some parents abuse all children, and some abuse one. If parents abuse more than one, these children can band together and the abusers do not want that. They want a hierarchy among the children because that is better for their abuse. Children in the 'higher' hierarchy usually try to behave better and sometimes join in on the abuse as a way not to become a victim themselves. I am glad to hear his adoptive siblings snuck him food. They loved him, but his adoptive parents didn't.
I used to hide a shard of broken glass under my pillow for protection. My parents were violent. So if he really did have a knife ( which is not confirmed) I imagine it was to protect himself.

I just posted my adoption experience above and I think because he was formally adopted, there probably isn’t much follow up, like with social services and case workers, as is or should be in the foster care system. But I went through an adoption agency before I gave birth, so this was no rush, emergency, shady, abusive deal. I think kids that are homeschooled. Need to be checked up on though. Especially if the other siblings are going to school and all of a sudden one isn’t anymore.

‘Normal’ people are not that likely to believe what they think or ‘know’ (suspect) inside their heads and hearts because it’s difficult to imagine the abject evil that is present in others.
Nobody is perfect; we all have an evil side within. However, the ‘normal’ person’s “evil” is pale in comparison to the penultimate behavior of terrible people- so I’m saying the same thing twice: they know something is wrong but cannot understand how very wrong these things are in reality because first person they cannot imagine it. Even incarcerated felons by-and-large recognize lines that shouldn’t be crossed and have moral boundaries they are aware of despite their own criminality. Child abusers on the other hand have little- if any- if even an empirical understanding of their own lack of boundaries. Their very existence is a continual lie and they care for nothing more than themselves.
Websites like this raise awareness of social and cultural sickness.

This poor boy Adam was my biggest fear. I gave a baby boy up for adoption in the 90’s as a teen. I just always hoped he’d be placed with a good family that wanted and loved him and give him everything I couldn’t. He found me last year. He’s 27 years old, a firefighter and homeowner. I think I let out a tiny scream on the phone when I talked to him, I was so relieved. He said his parents are a loving caring couple who he knew loved him, integrated him into their family, lives and home seamlessly. They told him he was adopted at the appropriate time and gave him all the paperwork in regard to his adoption… Adam’s “parents” were the monsters that haunted me for over 2 decades. They should have to stay in prison until Adam is produced in whatever condition and then punished accordingly. I don’t think murderers (in other cases) should be able to use victim’s remains as leverage either, it should be the other way around.

Child protective services were overseeing the guardianship of bad dad and
mean mom. Nothing went right. I am wondering whether the square
footage of the trailer home was considered because it was too small for
their own kids to begin with; in other words, the parents weren't equipped to
provide housing for their own children much less Alan. Did bad dad work?
For whom? What kind of work did he do? Or was he a layabout watching
mean mom torture Alan. His recompense for guardianship, I should think, if he didn't work, wouldn't cover household expenses. When LE interrogated
them were they suspicious that they had murdered Alan? LE should have, if
the law allowed, kept them in jail for a longer period. Their kids would
have gotten along fine without them. There should have been political
repercussions, too, calling the Kansas political establishment to account.
National child welfare organizations should have been tossed into the mix.
The Herrmans murdered Alan confident that his remains would never be found. An afterthought, were the Herrmans alcoholic. Alan was one sweet
      kid.

His birth parents are a whole other issue. My anger towards the adoptive parents is that they had to seek out and make a huge effort to get a child they didn’t even want. I mean, no actual parent interested in being the best parent they can be to a child in need, does what this family does. So what the hell did they do this for????? They seriously had to try to get this kid that they DID NOT WANT. This happens far too often. It boggles my freaking mind!!!
But, I guess the same goes for birth parents. Why the hell are you having another kid? Why? Why??? I read DCF cases where someone’s fighting for custody of their new baby, and they’ve had 8 prior kids who’s parental rights were terminated. I mean, wtf are you doing?? You clearly have NO interest in doing this.
You don’t just get to keep having kids and hope you really get it together for the next one. You don’t get to screw up lives because you think you should get to do whatever you want. No. No. No.
The only difference is I get that birth parents don’t make an effort to get the kid they don’t want. It seems to come so easy to some. Even though I still don’t get why they have a child they don’t want when there’s plenty of options before and after birth, I can see it requires no thought whatsoever as opposed to an adoptive parent who actively pursues a child they have no care about at all.
Just why!!!!!!!! Makes me so angry. We should all be ashamed of how pathetic each states social services is and how LITTLE we as a country put towards protecting the most innocent and the ones who will be our future.

Abuse is rampant, children are used & abused in the most heinous ways.
What's the punishment, a slap on the wrist.
Yet, possession of narcotics carries a harsher punishment.

Laws, imo benefit the criminals. It's almost impossible to convict these individuals. Everything is circumstantial!
You could have three eye witnesses, a thumbprint, & be known offenders!
Unless they all but confess, good luck!
The fact of the matter is that corruption is so intertwined in every aspect of society. They way these cases are handled, I could do a better job investigating!
I believe there's only a handful that actually care about solving these cases. For most, it's a job for the few it's a calling!

As a family member, how could you NOT report them for locking him in the bathroom to sleep without bedding? And worse, as “punishment” for bed wetting???? It's one of the oldest scams in the book, much less in the adoption world: a family adopts a child or two for the added financial support, and then mistreats them in favor of their own kids . . . and keeps the money. It's also obvious that they withdrew Adam from school to conceal the abuse.
I wouldn't be surprised if, like myself, Adam was autistic, and the Hermanns mistook it for a mental problem, one that they took as a further justification for cruelty.

She was also adopted, though from within her adoptive father's family (her adoptive father's brother had been married to Erica's motherr, though he was not Erica's father).
ETA, so at the end of the video, the whole thing sounds a _lot_ like the Erica Parsons case - the abuse, the benefits fraud, the homeschooling, the other children asking questions, the lies by the parents - the only difference is that Erica was found, deceased, and her adoptive parents prosecuted. Casey (mother) was sentenced to life, no parole, Sandy (father) was sentenced to 33 years, to run from end of the federal sentence he was serving for tax and mail fraud - he was released from Federal prison in January 2022 and started serving his 33 year sentence in the NC prison system. He was 48 at the time, and per reports at the time will be 82 years old when he is first eligible for parole _i.e_ the 33 years appears to be the _minimum_ possible sentence before parole.
