  • Internationally-known body activist, model and entrepreneur, Ashley Graham, describes her journey into fashion industry stardom. She doesn't leave out any gritty details, as she describes the challenging and rewarding progression toward becoming her own role model. Inspiring body confidence in the next generation, Ashley expresses the need for the universal embrace of body diversity as beauty paradigms continue to shift.
    Ashley Graham, 27, was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and discovered in a mall at the age of 12. Her natural beauty and effervescent personality led to her signing with an international modeling agency at the age of 13, launching her successful, diverse career. Ashley has worked in numerous areas of the fashion industry including editorial, catalogue, runway, commercial, television and film. Recently she stared in #CurvesinBikinis, a campaign with swimsuitsforall that made her the first plus size model to appear in an ad in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit edition. Recently, she was one of five models included in Vogue.com’s “The Best Lingerie Comes in All Sizes” feature. As a role model and body activist, Ashley is regularly invited to speak at numerous high schools and girls’ groups about body image, self-acceptance and female empowerment.

    Could I look in the mirror and say this to myself without shedding a tear? Man, I'm confident about everything else in life, but as a woman, it's so hard to accept my looks. Ashley, you're awesome!

    • @arandeepsingh3605
      @arandeepsingh3605 8 лет назад +29

      Perhaps you'd be more confident if you put in some hard work, dedication and perseverance at the gym and gave yourself something to be confident about?

    • @MichelleOsorio
      @MichelleOsorio 8 лет назад +138

      +Arandeep Singh Just try to step back and consider that perhaps your comment comes from a place of ignorance and assumption. Women of all shapes, sizes, colors and so on battle judgement every day because of these very assumptions and it's tiring to have to answer to them, so I'll refrain from explaining my gym routine to you or how a gym routine in general is not going to solve all women's confidence issues worldwide. But, I'll try to assume you were only trying to help.

    • @arandeepsingh3605
      @arandeepsingh3605 8 лет назад +26

      Michelle Osorio's Kill9TV So is that a yes? A no? Or a load of evading the question and hiding behind a load of nonsense about 'ignorance' 'assumption' and 'judgement'.
      I'm not ignoring or assuming anything, neither am I judging anything.
      I'm serious here, going to the gym and getting into shape and improving your health and fitness really does improve confidence. All the hard work and perseverance and self control that you end up exhibiting will definitely make you more confident because you have a lot to be confident about. Knowing you are improving your health and fitness, setting fitness goals and then smashing them makes you feel a strong sense of accomplishment. Seeing your body change as your progress is great as well.
      Not all people have the grit and resilience and self control necessary however, in which case they blabber on about a load of crap in order to avoid admitting this. Because once they admit it, they feel compelled to do something about it. So they avoid asking themselves the meaningful questions in life.
      Could you be doing this? Have a good hard think and don't avoid the question.

    • @MichelleOsorio
      @MichelleOsorio 8 лет назад +70

      I'm not. I just don't think I need to justify my lifestyle to you. I will say I'm already aware of what gives confidence. I have an abundance of confidence in many areas and yeah getting in shape and the gym to give boosts to that, but what I speak of is an underlying issue that faces women no matter how hard they try to "look good". I have surveyed most women I know and we all almost entirely had the same experience of growing up seeing our mothers criticize themselves in front of the mirror, many of them quiet thin and beautiful. It's not about what you actually look like or what you're doing to try to look and feel better. It's about a society where you're born into a gender role where you will be judged by your looks far more than another. Them's the breaks. So it's a matter of learning to love who you are, no matter what other people, including on the Internet, are going to say or do to judge you as a person based on your looks. This has nothing to do with the gym either, as women will be judged for being ugly, old, too tall, too manish. I'm lucky that I was born with pretty decent genes so, if anything, I've been treated differently by people just because they were attracted to me, men and women, but it really doesn't matter. Many of us are constantly bombarded with messages that we'll never be good enough, look good enough, or we'll be replaced by a newer, bubblier model. So, aging gracefully and enjoying life becomes a goal to let go of other judgements (including yours) and learning to love oneself. Most of the time, I do a decent job at it. But, then I catch myself doing what many women do. Finding flaws nonetheless. It's all about the inner battle, not the outer battle of trying to impress anyone.

    • @gordonice
      @gordonice 8 лет назад +78

      +Arandeep Singh Fuck off. You're projecting your own shitty opinions onto someone you have never met. Saying "go to the gym so you have something to be confident about"? Really? For some reason you seem to think that if someone doesn't go to the gym, they couldn't possibly have any confidence. And honestly, that's a fucked up idea. But anyway, you are indeed free to hold whatever shitty opinions you want - but it's none of your business to tell someone else how to live their life. It's not your place to judge. And yes, you are judging, and making a lot of assumptions about all the people you've responded to here. Based on your comments, you seem to get off on trying to manipulate people through RUclips, and that's really fucked up. You talk about "the gift of self-control", but it seems like you are completely lacking in that department... You seem unable to keep the shit from coming out of your mouth. Ask yourself a meaningful question: why the fuck am I so concerned with projecting my own ideas onto other people? It's disgusting how you try to shame people and make them feel like there's something wrong with them. The idea that there is something wrong with a fuller figured woman is socially conditioned, it's in your own mind, and many, MANY other people feel differently and thank GOD they do. If your shitty opinions were the only reality, women would have no choice but to accept what you say as fact. But fortunately, women are free to love themselves in fullness or whatever expression they may have, and men are free to appreciate them. And if you feel entitled to tell other people how they should live and how they should feel about themselves, I feel entitled to tell you, you should really just fuck off and worry about your own life.

    Honestly anyone who says that this is "promoting" obesity doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about. The connection between size and health is different for everyone. In general, being smaller (but not too small--therein lies the other problem with modern media) is healthier for your body, but that's not always the case. I'm a black belt, been taking taekwondo classes for 5 years now. I'm strong and fit. But I'm a size 14. Why? Big breasts, thick thighs, and a strong back. I exercise all the time and I've never lost and more weight because THAT'S JUST HOW MY BODY IS SHAPED. So yeah. I'm plus sized and healthy. Some skinny girls do nothing but binge on junk food and don't exercise because of their metabolisms. Everyone can learn to love themselves regardless of their pants size or the number on the scale, because the only people qualified to tell you what that number *should* mean is your doctor.

    • @Loathomar
      @Loathomar 9 лет назад +7

      jklroxmysox111 Obesity, as measured by the BMI, is only a useful static in large numbers, ei looking at a countries BMI and how it changes over time. BMI on a personal level is pointless, as it does nothing to tell how much muscle a person has. Bodybuilders take this to the extreme, where their BMI says they are either overweight or obese while at the same time they have ~4% bodyfat (for men). An accurate body fat percentage is far far better then BMI at estimating heath risks for what is often claimed to be cause by being "overweight".

      jklroxmysox111 I agree. Whenever I am tested for cardiovascular fitness I do quite well. I can easily ride my bike for hours at really decent speeds. I have completed triathlons and marathons. My rest pulse is very low. I am rarely sick. Yet my BMI is considered to be way to high. When I was training for 15 hrs/week and eating healthy - I was still about 30lbs heavier than BMI tells me I should be. My body just doesn't agree. Sorry.

      +Charlene Dexter her boyfriend has absolutely nothing to do with this video. Her boyfriend CHOSE to have the body he has. He works hard to get those abs, that's his choice. This woman is all about body diversity, not just supporting bigger people. He could easily choose to gain weight and stop working out, but clearly he likes the way he looks and she supports that and wouldn't try to change him. She's 5 foot 9 inches and (according to her) weighs 201 pounds. Now, just being realistic, many women lie about their weight. So, we can probably add another 5-7 to that total.
      The ideal body weight of a woman her height is 145 pounds -- according to the University of Washington. That would make her at least 56 pounds overweight.
      She is fat. Stop kidding yourself.

    The fact that the hate comments are coming from men just emphasizes a major factor in women's insecurities , that women feel the need to look a certain way in order to be accepted as beautiful. The women who understand what Ashley is saying think this is inspirational but men are still making digs at her appearance despite the words that she is saying.

      I love the fact that you exclude it to just women's insecurities. EVERYONE who is overweight is told that everyday and it's inescapable. The only difference is that women convince themselves and each other that they're
      "healthy at any size" and "beautiful the way they are" when it's just not true. Men are fat shamed every day of their lives and are never called handsome from it. We just deal with it or lose weight, simple as that.

    Some of these trolls don't get it. A woman's weight and health effects should be between her and her doctor. Her worth and attractiveness should be unyielding and independent of her physical health. It seems these trolls are hearing words that she is not saying.

      Marshmallowmann She is saying that it is okay to love yourself even if you don't have a perfect body or have perfect health. Even if someone is actively trying to lose weight for health reasons, if they hate themselves as their current weight then it kills motivation and leads to things like depression. I don't see you walking up to someone with, say, a skin condition and saying "Wow, you are so ugly with that medical condition you have, and clearly you are promoting it by having it. Therefore don't show your face in public because then people might think it's okay to have a skin condition. Instead, why don't you go spend a bunch of money, time, effort, and stress trying to fix the problem so that I can be more comfortable looking at you."

      So, let us take this nice and slow for you. It seems you need it.
      1. A woman's weight and health effects should not only be limited to between her and her doctor, but rather open to whomever doesn't like how she looks?
      2. A woman's worth as a person (contributor to society) and attractiveness should be very or solely dependent on her physical health or aesthetic?

    • @marshmallowmann20
      @marshmallowmann20 9 лет назад +7

      1. Not if she's popular enough to be a role model speaking in front of an audience.
      2. Wrong again, but this is exactly what that woman in the video is. Not only does she not contribute anything to society, she's actively ENABLING other fat people.
      The epidemic of overweight and obese people is already happening. The world doesn't need people like her actively promoting being too fat.

    • @marshmallowmann20
      @marshmallowmann20 9 лет назад +3

      jklroxmysox111 You are comparing apples and oranges. Smokers don't say "look at me smoking, it's a healthy lifestyle, cancer is cool" but that's exactly what the fat women in the video does. If they try to do that, I'll criticise the shit out of them too. People that are ill and people that fuck themselves up by overeating are not the same. People saying "look at me, I destroy my body every day and everyone should be fine with it" is not something i'm okay with. Especially not with the climbing child obesity rate.

Like words can't describe how this speech moved a lot of people to accept this narrative that we need to look at people as people and not on other aspects, as long as they're healthy we move on together 💪🏻. Spread positivity people (:

    She is amazing. As a plus size girl since I was 6/7 years old....I needed this kind of role model in my life to vanquish the damning words of my bullies. Body Positivity was the basis of Ashley's platform and voice. Love yourself in the skin you are in. I didn't, instead I imprisoned myself in my teenage bedroom filling my head with notions of escaping because of all the shame and guilt over a body I struggled to make acceptable in the eyes of my peers.
    At 16, I tried to take my life, but thankfully failed. That night I learned something about myself. I really did not want to die, I just wanted the bullying and rejection to end.

    90% of the hate comments are coming from men lol. most men won't get it and will never understand the beauty issues woman have to face with everyday. and no, having the pressure to go to the gym all the time to stay fit is not what every man does. most woman don't give a shit what a man looks like just as long as he's not obese. that's also true for how men think of woman; they don't want their ladies to be obese. but the thing is this woman in this video is not obese. She is overweight but not to the point where it is UNHEALTHY. I'm so sick and tired of people seeing someone who is overweight and just assuming they stuff their face with fattening foods. why don't people harass others who are considered stick thin and eat shitty foods? oh wait, because on the outside they look healthy because they're thin. so thin automatically means healthy right?

      Ok I'm female, and one of the 10 % who don't support fat acceptance. Yes, women do care about men's physical appearances. More than you think. As for Ashley she is borderline obese. If you think otherwise then you are just lying to yourself, and in denial. Sorry but she is not a good role model for women.

      Not at all, fat shaming has nothing to do with the original comment. When you bully someone, or discriminate them, hurt them phisically, psychologically or in any way, based on their weight, that's fat (or skinny) shaming, and it's fucking bad. But a personal preference, like ''I like tall guys'' or ''I like skinny girls'' is not hurting in any way.

      +Sasha Blouse Most idiotic comment in this thread. Most men that grew up with both parents know one thing to be true women like compliments. Our fathers teach us when mom gets a haircut or loses some weight tell her how nice she looks. Sure enough pay her compliment and it visibly brightens up her day...believe me no where was there a penis in that thought process just her feelings. In this case it's her that puts her own looks in question so men do what they do and compliment her and of course some entitled self righteous jackass says some shit like this. Take a step outside of yourself for a second and learn something from those men. You might be surprised how genuine some of us really are...penis aside lol. Pathetic.

    • @bokchoiman
      @bokchoiman 7 лет назад +115

      I think women AND men should be pressured to go to the gym. Why? Health benefits. Look at someone who's 70 who works out vs someone who doesn't. It's a world of difference. If we promote anything in this world it should be a healthy prolonged life.

    • @MinkaLovesPineapples
      @MinkaLovesPineapples 7 лет назад +44

      True. But some people are struggling with eating disorders and other unhealthy relationships with exercise and food. Therefore the gym environment can negative for them. Also yoga and other more gentle exercise is shown to promote prolonged life. I personally know people who have lived almost to 100 years old with zero exercise besides walking. If you're forcing yourself to go to the gym when you don't want to, this can cause major anxiety and stress if you don't enjoy it, therefore contradicting all health benefits. Health doesn't just come from your body but your mind and psychological health as well.

I guarantee at least half of the people who claim plus size is beautiful are only thinking of women who have an hourglass/slim pear figure, rather than the majority of plus size women who have an apple shape or anything else undesirable.

      well, She is perfect the way she is but think about it she probab has spandex under that dress and holding it in place and she has a small waist but if she has kids her ribs could expand and she may not curve in like that anymore. because her face is not chubby or neck isn't. Would she still be one did she get it sucked out of her face? females get surgery to be models. So, large body great but would she really be one if she had chubby face and neck? she still has makeup and so she is still conforming. easier said than done

    I wish I had supportive parents growing up, ever since I was little and to this day, my mother and most of my family on her side have obsessed over weight, over their own, and over mine. Do you know how bad it feels to be told by your aunts and mother that you should think about "watching what you eat"and exercising when you're in elementary school? I've never in my life had a constant person there for me who loved themselves and knew that beauty is not defined by your weight, and I still struggle with self worth because I'm "not good enough". Ashley is definitely someone who inspires me to fight those negative thoughts I always carry with me, but I still need to find someone of somewhere to go to remind me that just because I don't look the way society or the majority of people want me to, I am not worthless.

    She is absolutely beautiful but I don't believe that she represents plus size women. The "plus size" models that we see aren't what MOST plus size women look like. Ashley is curvy but not fat at all. She has curves in all the right places and her body is proportionate. Plus size in the sense of lumps and rolls etc isn't what is being represented. However I think it's great that "larger" and I use the word larger lightly, women such as Ashley are being more accepted in the modeling industry.

      Woo HOO! So FAB to see a guy speaking out like this! It is so rare, so thank you. You are brilliant!
      As is Ashley. If I may be so bold though and ask of you this..Next time you and any men who see this- have some free time; shoot a message to Vic Secret store head office or on their FB or Twitter etc..or when you are in the mall, drop in and tell the store manager that you want to see the women you are attracted to represented in their store windows and the HOLY GRAIL- the yearly VS catwalk show- the show that crashes the net each year when released, not crashed by men mind you, no. It is crashed by literally millions of women aged 13-33 women who feel (many- not all) so pressured to look a certain way- they literally make themselves ill over it.
      Did you guys know that more that 1 in 25 women have a serious eating disorder- 10% of men too (we hide it well, and eating disorders are more than anorexia and bulimia- the two most known ones. There is BED- Binge eating disorder; the fastest growing and severely damaging act of limiting food then bingeing- but not purging. Othorexia and body dis-morphia.
      Chances are someone you are close to suffers daily with one of these eating disorders which are actually considered mental illnesses. So we get a perfectly normal healthy girl and we make her mentally ill...these designers you speak of create this. You cannot imagine how much women agonies over this. I think many men would be shocked..
      Normal regular healthy women who become ill trying to meet a size and standard their bodies are literally not designed to meet- Take a model like Karlie Kloss the hugely popular 6 foot naturally flat chested and super skinny model, 99% of woman would have to be on their death bed to be her size- and before her Kate Moss, (both big time models who were naturally skin and bone girls) yet still they try..even when they were NOT overweight to begin with, and that may be the WORST thing of all...
      Most women start dieting, with maybe 10 pounds to lose, and end up fatter and fatter, over time, as diets make you fat, creating a yoyo effect, destroy your metabolism, your esteem- and the crazy thing is, we often will turn around a blame men for this, as we think we are trying to achieve a size 4 body to be gorgeous for you men, but often it is to look good to other women, who have all been brainwashed by fashion mags and the whole scene.
      You speak it so well, the only men who want these size zero-4 women are the (mostly) gay top designers- and people: ALL the TOP Couture High Fashion designers in the world are gay...what a shit show we women have allowed to be created for ourselves...
      These are my views and my life experiences-first as a teen catwalk and fashion model from 13-17 where I modelled women's fashions at 13 - when I was 5'11 and my friends from that world & the very active eating disorder group with 6000 members that I am an admin at where women reveal the devastation eating disorders have wreaked their lives,, my fam and girlfriends- so please be nice :-)

      And you're completely right ! So many girls are beautifull just the way they are, but the media/showbizz/fashion/etc world constantly focusses on top models, with Victoria secret at the top, so these girls, who are beautifull cannot even be convinced by a friend or familymember that they are good looking because that little bit overweight (according to the fashion world, because it isnt overweight at all) makes them miserable and feel like they will fail in life because they dont fit the so called 'standard'. I'm glad the rap scene and some other outlets show a different kind of woman (maybe thats one of the positive aspects of Minaj, kardashian, etc, that they show u dont have to be ashamed to have a big butt anymore) so girls will not be depressed, because that pants they wore at a certain time in life, doesnt fit anymore, or when they become a little bigger they immediatly start vomiting and stop eating healthy, and when even that fails they are even more depressed over it. Im convinced this will only get better, because some of the 'hot' women today would be considered 'fat' in the early 90's. So the end of it is near ;)
      (excuse my english btw)

      @livp1835 8 лет назад +3

      +SimplyLimbo OMG are you kidding me! Excuse your English? I could only dream to write as eloquently as you! Your words are spot on! I was quite corrupted coming up as a model in the 90's, the waif look, heroin chic- was devastating to so many girls- you cannot even imagine.
      I am so thrilled- as you say, that so many girls have fantastic beautiful bodied women to aspire to, just in general; even the Barbie Doll brand has bought out thicker waisted dolls and dolls of colour- mind you , they did this only because they were losing SO many sales to progressive doll companies and Mums who were choosing NOT to buy into that blond blue eyed big boobed tiny foot and tiny waist doll;
      I recall the time an article came out that was every where for a while...Some boffin worked out Barbie Dolls statistics and said "were Barbie a real woman, 1st she would tip over as her feet were so small, then she would instantly die- as her waist was so small all her organs would be crushed!"
      I read an article just today about most little girls (4-8) princess dream girl- Disney number 1 rated Elsa from Frozen, that the fact her waist was SO small it was making little girls feel that THEY were fat...So we still have a ways to go- as sadly the onslaught on our girls is starting younger and younger, amazingly we have 6 year olds being admitted to hospital refusing to eat developing anorexia- unheard of 20 years ago..
      Ironic really, and the stats are now this- 1/3 of us are overweight, 1/3 obese or morbidly obese and 1/3 regular or underweight..For the first time in history we have more people dying from obesity related illness than those dying from starvation in developing nations...
      I've worked closely with PhD Joan Ifland (Addicitive nutrition) this year with a large eating disorder group.
      The numbers are staggering, obesity/morbid obesity in the US/UK and AUS/NZ as well as the Pacific Island Nations are literally exploding- then again, we also have serious issues with under eating..its a disaster really- so I just HOPE the new kids coming up can be saved, but honestly now, we are seeing the Mums so messed up, they are literally passing on their eating issues to their kids- you know that in the countries I mention, the kids born this century are pegged to die younger than their parents and diabetes and other weight related illnesses are literally sky rocketing!
      Oh and you are SPOT on about the MID 90's- that is when I worked and it was a nightmare, girls aged 'out' at 15-16 instead of early 20's as they developed figures, we were great from 13-15 then it was "measuring tapes out' remember this was the waif era, heroin chic- the rise of Kate Moss was actually devastating to so many model careers, that and the fall of communism, which actually released all these malnutrition Russian and Chec Rep girls (generalizing), but models like Natalia Vodianova (i can go on) who came literally off the streets, selling fruit from a cart, so thin from poverty- but she went on to be one of the biggest models of the last 20 years, a Calvin Klein/ perfume/makeup staple.
      Anyway- yes, thank Goodness girls today have So many amazing women to aspire to. Strong women with voices too- thats new..and all colours too..the world on one hand is a better place to be a young woman today, but then all we hear and read is HOW tough it is for young girls what with instagram and all the impossible images they are bombarded with..
      I heard this great line a while back. "Today young girl, in ONE MONTH sees more images (of impossible beauty) than her grandmother saw in her LIFETIME'...
      Then there is the new trend of facial injections and surgery on teen girls...oh...stop me NOw~
      Oh enough of my rant I get carried away! and your English, again, is perfection!

    I just worry that people use happiness as a shield or scapegoat for an unhealthy lifestyle but the focus here was on happiness. Still a good talk regardless.

Plus people don't walk up to others with other medical conditions and say things like "Wow you're so ugly, by having that condition you are automatically promoting it and you should feel bad and never let us see you". I don't understand why people don't see that that is exactly what they are doing.

    • @mike0rr

      Is it ever ok to tell some random person that? No, come on man. Should we be happy with our bodys? Yes. Should we endorse unhealthy living? No. But there is a difference between, not endorsing unhealthy living, and being an unhelpful ass.
      No one has ever said "Some random person in town today made fun of my weight so I'm going to loose it now." Have a goal outside of superiority and belittlement behind your criticisms or they are nothing more than a bad coping mechanism for your own shortcomings.

      First and foremost, if you plan to make a point, you might want to reserve some tact and refrain from name calling as it adds nothing to your point and only looks as though you are covering an explanation gap with nonsensical, angry defamation.
      Second of all, we all have some form of harmful drain on society. None of us are white knights. You have missed the original point of this post.
      This post was never about denying we ever had flaws, but in fact the very opposite. It was about recognizing our flaws in order to hopefully take some steps to correct them.
      Pointing fingers at anothers flaws is an ignorant attempt at self justification. You are saying, "They stole 3 cars yesterday, so it's ok that I am stealing this bike".

      Jame Gumb As someone who has been overweight most of their life, it is not an easy fix.
      I got to a point where I wanted nothing more than to cut the fat off of my body. Instead, I learned about nutrition, portion size, and working out. I lost 60 pounds to where I am now, which is still considered low obesity on the BMI scale. This has been a 7 year journey.
      This journey involves a heightened awareness because skinny people were in media, my friends were skinny, I was involved in musical theatre and was always cast as the mom because I didn't have the starlet body. I was made fun of for my weight and was called jiggly puff.
      When I hit plateaus later on in my weight loss journey I would cry, and eventually after being assaulted, I developed an eating disorder for some form of control. the body I was trying to get was now an enemy that had been used for some kicks and giggles. I would sit on the bathroom floor trying to throw up, I took laxatives, worked out for 2-3 hours a day, and restricted myself to 600 calories a day.
      I went to therapy and it didn't help, I thought seriously about suicide, and all I wished was that I would fall asleep and not wake up.
      It wasn't until I met my now husband who told me I was beautiful the way I was. It was when my husband ate meals with me and I saw how distorted I had become that I felt peace.
      It was love and support in being okay with my body that helped me. I still hate my body though. I'm a size 12 and I never got any smaller even though I'm a medium shirt and a bra size A cup. I have no butt. fat isn't on my body except for a little cellulite on my thighs. My body is unable to get smaller. It is women like Ashley and men like my husband that cause people to stay away from suicide and on the right path to living a healthy and happy life.
      It is an individual like yourself that made me want to die. Think about the women in your life and imagine how your comments would affect them. Do you want them to be ashamed about their bodies? I would hope not.

    Okay.. So.. basically, out of all the comments I just saw, i just wanted to clear out something for the people who think this ugly. You guys should understand that its not always eating or anything as such that you mentioned that keeps us overweight. There's genetic reasons, medical reasons, and other things.
    The truth is, no matter what a girl's size is, there's always gonna be people putting her down. If she's thick or thin, they will call her ugly. the reason why women like Ashley Graham stand up and talk about this is motivational. Girls/Woman all around the world suffer from one thing common known as their body weight. Because at some point in their life there has definitely been people who said bullshit about them or other reasons. The point of this speech was to never give up on what you think about yourself. everyone is beautiful. no one is perfect. If God has given you a body, it doesnt matter if its thick or thin, we should learn to keep it healthy and stay confident about it. your body is your body and everyday when you look at yourself, all you gotta know is you're so fucking beautiful and keep doing you. Encourage other women. and even if there are men going through body weight issues we gotta encourage. thats how we spread love and positivity. forget about the society that puts you down and remember that person YOU who brings you up everyday. I hope whoever reads this will feel a little encouraged.

      Scientific evidence shows that BMI between 17 and 20 is most attractive. That is a slender range.
      In other words, scientific evidence shows that men like thin women. It has been said that BMI has higher priority than WHR. Also low WHR is way more common in Thin Women than Fat Fucks, since women with slim waist tend to have significantly wider hips. Hourglass/Pear Shape is way more common in Thin Women than Fat Fucks due to aforementioned reasons for low WHR being more common in Thin Women than Fat Fucks.

      1. Are Obese
      2. Have a face that doesn't even remotely follow the "golden rule"
      3. Have a waist: hip ratio in which your waist is not the same size as your hips
      4. Have somewhat normal proportions
      You will have the perfect body. Not "the perfect body," but an actual wanna-hit-that body, which most healthy people get at some point in their life. Just look at a college university. Most girls here will have naurally beautiful bodies. If you are healthy, accept who you are, if yu arent, work to change.

    I find it weird that everyone is worried about a plus sized models weight but do you realize that being underweight can cause just as many problems as being over weight. I never see hoards of people calling them disgusting or telling them that they are killing themselves and promoting unhealthy lifestyles. Also its not like its some girl who just sits around on her couch in a motorized scooter who is 700 lbs saying I want everyone to be fat because fat is the only thing that is beautiful and fat is the only way to be. Nobody asks the underweight model what shes eating and asks if she is eating healthy balanced meals. But once everyone sees a girl who is not skinny everyone shames her and tells her she is unhealthy and she needs to eat better and exercise and she will get heart disease. But nobody tells the underweight model that she too can get heart disease if she does not eat healthy.

    When she started talking about her knee… my god, nobody has ever spoken what my mother continuously pointed out to me since I was 12. Instead my mother called them “tree trunks”. I really love how much Ashley and Jameela Jamil have done for the body positivity movement and pointing out what’s actually normal opposed to the fashion and Hollywood “norm” such beautiful souls

    What if we lived in a society that spread the message " Every single one of us are beautiful. Every single one of us are perfect, just the way we are"..well the beauty industry would loose a hell of a lot money that is for sure!!

      +Johanna Cash You can spread whatever message you like but it's useless if it's not true. If everyone is beautiful and perfect then "beauty" and "perfection" lose their meanings.

      Speak for yourself. That is your truth! There is no such thing as one truth. My truth is everyone is beautiful and perfect..

      You are right that there is no such thing as one "My Truth". But there are consensus truths in a given population at a given time. And one of those is that very beautiful plus models can get attention shaming fat shamers. Their celebrity depends on the durability of the bias against fatties, and who knows how durable that is.

    I'm reading some of these comments and I just wish that people would stop confusing the inside with the outside. People tend to create this idea that a skinny body or athletic looking body matches healthy inside and a curvy or chubby body matches unhealthy inside. The people saying that she is promoting an unhealthy lifestyle just don't know how to separate the outside from the inside. Yes, people who look fat are likely to be at least a little unhealthy on the inside...but what about skinny people? We are so conditioned to match the outside with the inside in a certain way that we don't even question the health of a skinny person. I think Americans are more obsessed with a healthy LOOKING body, not actual health.

      ***** I wasn't envisioning an obese person when I made that comment. I was looking at the speaker. Also, I'm not saying that we should be promoting an unhealthy lifestyle; I'm saying that we hold someones looks to a high standard of determining their health at face value (sure, you can SEE that an obese person is unhealthy but maybe not everyone else). However, I see your point and frustration.

    She has a very feminine look and a beautiful face. I think most people who have difficulties with their body size also have difficulties accepting their facial shapes. It is harder to accept if you are not gifted like her. But still the message is good. You should be caring less about how you look but more about what you can do.

    Ashley Graham: You are gorgeous! Growing up in the 60's (the Twiggy era), and the 80's and 90's (the cocaine thin era) I saw so many younger women starving themselves and dying from not eating, binging and purging, and dying and it was and is a true epidemic. Thanks for this important message Ashley. Kudos.
