Obviously, I’d have to see it in hand before I could really get a better idea of how it looks, but the silver color actually looks pretty decent. A lot of the Origins figures look better than the vintage in terms of the deeper colors they use, and this is one of those examples to me. It’ll be nice to finally get one.
The silver swirl looks like blemishes and repair lines stylistically to me, giving some variation in an army build. I really really wish that Mattel wouldn’t have limited the red and black troopers, because with the simple addition of a “Parts pack” variant helmets/weapons/arms - damaged and non damaged would have been a dream come true for many. The black and red could be command level units, or akin to elite/shock/night fighting/Hordac’s personal guard sort of new takes.
The greatest army-builder-figure ever. Want to buy a lot of them.
Fun fact about the Horde Trooper Funko I noticed. Most funkos are quite light because head is hollow, but the Horde Trooper is solid plastic all over. So it has some weight to it you wouldn't expect from a funko.
I like the silver marbling. I also think since it's an army builder that with the frequent repaints we're getting in Origins Mattel will end up releasing the Trooper again made with a plastic closer in coloring to the vintage figure is likely. Plus all sorts of other Horde Trooper variants with the various head sculpts we saw in Classics.
Love the silver. I was so disappointed as a kid when he was just that dull gray.
I really like the silver. Helps modernize him a bit while staying true to the original design.

I kinda like the sheen on the armor. Definitely a move up. I might change my mind once in hand, but so far, I like the unique look.
I LOVE mine... I have 6 plus the CRIMSON and SHADOW TROOPERS. All the others came from Target.

I like the new silver, different from the 80s and Classics versions, we don’t need like-for-like replicas all the time.
When I look at them side by side I like the ORIGINS more than the VINTAGE.

I don’t know how anyone wouldn’t like this deco. He’s supposed to be metal and the shiny plastic just adds so much to the aesthetic I think it’s incredible looking. Great job Mattel!
The marbly effect is a tad too prominent in his arms for my taste, but I generally like it. How awesome would it be if we got a silver vac-metal version, though???

Update, I didn’t find them. But I did find a mosquitor. And a bunch of DC Multiverse figures. So it’s a win
I think the texture and flaws in the silver give the Horde Trooper a nice bit of aesthetic flavor, showing that for all of Hordak's love and use of technology, the Horde Troopers are made with a shiny but substandard alloy that makes them more vulnerable than they should be, but Hordak wouldn't care because 1) they're expendible resources to help him win battles, and 2) he can just keep pumping them out in his foundaries and factories.
I think the silver matches the theme of making ALL of the motu origins being way way more colorful and vibrant compared to their vintage counterparts.

Just like you, I find the metallic silver finish a little bit off-putting but not so much that I'd dismiss this figure if I had the chance to get it. As much as I love the original Horde Trooper, kudos to Mattel for tweaking enough the gimmick on this one as to give the figure more stability.

On the Troopers' heads:
The vintage Trooper's head sat low under his neck guard intentionally. while the head itself had that *V* shaped visor, by sitting low, it looked like he had 2 yellow eyes, like the She-Ra cartoon. With both of the newer heads sitting higher, unless someone uses paint, a decal, or a Marks-a-Lot, Horde Troopers lose 2 yellow eyes and gain a V-shaped yellow visor.
The other upside? Interchangeable heads means He-Man can disguise himself as a Trooper to sneak into the Fright Zone.

I like the silver. Origins has had some misses with the colour choices, but this isn't one of them. Looks good, but could've skipped the swirl.
I think the silver is cool, I would like a grey one too, because grey fits the oppressive nature of the horde, but silver is still fun.
Don’t love how the helmet sits so high on them. One of my fav things about the original is how low the helmet sits. Way more menacing.
I really like it. I do prefer the light gray but we could still get that down the road. I think some may be more critical because it's not the light gray one so they probably should have released this one later as a variant.

I wonder how the He-man head would look on that body because didnt He-man wear that armor as a disguise in the Secret of the Sword movie?
New MOTU Origins product has come a virtual crawl in my town since the first of the year. And we have like five Targets in our area so it’s not like the commercial availability is missing us. It just seems Target can not move any of the previous waves because they fit them too late from the holidays. So now they’re stuck with all of this back stock. I’ll be surprised if I see Wave 8 before July.
I was able to pick up eight of these guys, Because I figured out the pattern on the app. They weren't selling out, they were only going up a few at a time to cut back on scalpers (i can only assume). Every 8 to 10 hours they will go back up for sale. But sale out in a few minutes.
I like the silver. I think the marble pattern will look better when you have a few together since they will presumably not have the same markings it will look less like a headwound. Glad they are doing the Horde team kind of all at once with Mosquitor, Trooper, and then Grizzlor/Leech/Mantenna coming presumably within a wave of each other. I will get 4 or 6 of these. I don't have red and black.
I bought three of these guys and they ALL have that same "crack" on the head.
I like the silver personally. I mean, how can you complain at this point? The fact that this line is still going is such a miracle that I'm not going to nitpick too much. (Otherwise I'd be demanding a darker green Man-At-Arms.)
Dan pretty much criticizes and nitpicks on every new line MotU. I moved away from watching his reviews onto different RUclipsrs. I come back once in awhile but I find the same ol nitpicks on things that I and many other fans think are great upgrades.
It'd be nice to get one in just the gray plastic as well.
I like the silver color. I have four on pre-order from Bigbadtoystore as well. I feel four will be enough. I ordered the same amount of palace guards. I don't usually army build but I feel the need with these figures.

I would have preferred flat gray, but the silver isn't the end of the world.
Six. Six is a good number to have with owning Horde Troopers.
I managed to get 10 of them from target online ... I think bots went to town because i had to click insanely fast and it said out of stock when my order was finished (it took me less than 15 seconds to put it in the cart and check out) but my plan was for the red one to have his group of 5 underlings and the black one to have 5 like they are generals and these silver ones are the regular soldiers. but now i think i might want 6 more, 5 to paint gray like vintage and 1 Gold to make a 3rd general.... what do you all think?

Some nice body proportion changes around the head & neck for sure. I don't hate the silver or the marbling per se, but they probably should just used light grey to be more faithful to the whole Origins concept Ie. OG figure aesthetics.
I actually love the more metallic look. Like you said, these are robots and shiny metal makes more sense to me.

I would've LOVED for the Horde Troopers to be silvery back in the old days; I always thought the flat light grey looked cheap and cartoony. So this version looks great to me, but I'm with you on the swirl being a bit . . . off.
This style of plastic bodes well for a potentially forthcoming Extendar, though!

Should have comes in 4 troopers pack. 2 silver, 1 red, 1 black. I would have bought 2 easily.
I'm indifferent to the silver color, I think there are positives and negatives. But, whenever toy companies use these shiny plastics, I'm always worried about it's longevity. I don't want another "gold plastic syndrome" like we have with metallic toys from the '90s.
The action feature works great on yours. The front half on mine doesn't come down by itself.

None of these big toy channes are mentioning one of the best things about this wave, and that is that they all have updated, ratcheting joints now. Loose ankles and knees have PLAUGUED Origins and it looks like Mattel has resolved the issue by making the ankles, knees, elbows and shoulders ratchet.
I don't have the wave yet but where is your source on this? I'd like to read it

prb 'flaw' as in Mattel didn't care about the paint the chinese sweatshops uses ;) these QC pretty low in general for a low budget line.. definitely much lower than Classics

I'm personally mixed on the silver. On the one hand, it's odd to me seeing it not in grey. But on the other hand I do like the silver and red combo with the horde logo. I havent made my mind up yet on this. Still love the horde trooper though for sure
As for army building, I usually only get two or three. Space and not wanting to hog a figure all to myself keep me from going nuts with troop building

The silver is nice. In the show, all the weapons were flat colors, but shiny, metallic weapons and armor are great, right?

The marble-crack line on the head is exactly the same as on mine... So it's probably just molded that way...
Got 3 of them today, they vary in chest looseness. Still cool, I have Skelator stabbing the one that is loose. Looks silly. I like SunMan, he seems like a really powerful ally like Zodiac.
Like the old school pant legs better. This one looks like he's wearin high waters. 😄

The fact that people army build this figure is why a lot of people will struggle to get one, i am usually happy with one example of a figure unlike most clearly.

unfortunately all the produced units seems to have that very evident swirling at the head. It's in everyone i saw so far in all the reviews. Maybe a second production batch will not have it.
