  • Mice and rodents look for someplace sheltered out of the elements and may find their way into your vehicle's air intake. There they can move into the air filter and even deeper into the engine. The solution in this video may be enough of a deterrent to prevent them from entering.

Thanks, great tip! As a long time rural off grid, southern California girl, it's a constant battle with rodents. We put mothballs in a meshbag under the hood also.

I use to live 150 miles from Death Valley,California I the U.S. in the Southwest mice can carry a rare deadly disease I can not remember the name. At time rodents can carry the Black Death Pandemic it is rare now in the modern times but from time there are out breaks in the Southwestern U.S..
I would encourage everyone who is traveling in and spending time in remote and isolated areas to understand and know about the bio security risks and the large predators that could put them at risk. We also have in places in California a rare ground water bio security risk.

Can't they chew thru the garden mesh?

That's interesting... they haven't bothered, yet... and maybe that's the key - it's enough hassle that they don't waste time on it - but you're right, I'm pretty sure they have the ability if they wanted to. The entire housing is actually plastic as well and they don't bother with that, so I think they just go for the entrance when its wide open and easy pickings. I think the key is to make it too much work for them...

The building I parked behind got sold and when they emptied the warehouse the rats scattered and came in my truck. I’m battling them now

Whoa! It's true: you have to be aware of what's around you and anything that's going on where you park.

Wont they just chew through that? I wonder if there is a metal solution?

This winter they didn't chew through it. I think it's enough of a deterrent to work since without it there's just a wide open tunnel inviting them to explore.
