  • what are degrees of freedom in physics-
    This video is about The degrees of freedom -The number of directions in which a particle can move freely is defined as its degree of freedom. OR The number of independent coordinates required to specify completely the position of a particle in space, is defined as its degree of freedom .

    Nah bro. You have some explaining to do.. "5 particles moving in a plane" does not make sense. The particle moving in the circle is in a plane so why use 3N for particle in a circle but 2N for particle in a plane?????????!!!!
    Particle moving in a circle [N = 1 particle, k = 2 because r and phi are constarined] therefore 3(1) - 2 = 1
    so plane MUST be [N = 5 particles, k = 1 only z is constrained] therefore 3(5) - 1 = 14 RIGHT?? AM I TRIPPING???
    Answer this and I will be satisfied, does the preconvieced conditions of the problem determine if we use 3N or 2N?
    Like say a car moving on a straight road that is free to switch lanes. Will I use 3N or 2N to determine its DoF?

      if you want to do it with a 2d space, then the constraint would only be of r , if we are in a 3d space then it will be on r and phi.

    degree of freedom of rigid body is 3(3)-0 = 9 but it is 6 i dont understand please help

    • @mathOgenius
      @mathOgenius  3 года назад +13

      see for a rigid body we have N particles and in 3 dimensions it will be 3N -(the number of constraints)
      the number of constrains in a rigid body are 3N-6 so .. 3N-(3N-6).. hence 6 degrees of freedom.
