The world needs more of this this is beautiful a dad and a daughter working together on a new car how beautiful is that keep it going girlfriend you're doing a hell of a job God bless your dad for hanging out with you that's awesome !!
What an excellent job, I’m very impressed for your first time out doing this. Brings back memories of helping my brother prime and paint by hand his 1963 Ford falcon way back in 1975. Can’t wait to see the final product, what an incredible team you are, you both should be very very proud :-)
Yea, we're really like it so far. Next we'll be sanding, doing some skimming with filler, and then doing another 2 coats of epoxy. Then we move on to urethane primer and then we get to paint!
I really do have to applaud you for all the learning and work you’ve put into this car! I have a 65 Mustang and absolutely despise the thing because of how much work it requires so I’m selling it, as a 21 year old who works constantly I need a new car. Keep up the great work though!
You may have been a nervous first-timer, but simply by taking your time and following directions you did a better job than some seasoned professionals i've seen. Very impressive!
I've seen some people roll on the final paint. It works, but there's a lot of sanding and buffing to make it good. I first saw Evan and Katelyn when they did a project with Alec Steele and I've watched them since then. They would probably make the whole car out of resin.
Hey Mr. Poole! Yes, we're tackling our own body work, but we'll definitely be partnering with a professional to get the painting done. Yes! Resin car!!
That look very easy. I may try it my self on my truck instead of spraying it. NO over spray witch is the best part. Yes DO NOT rush the paint job, like you said : the hardest and most visible part of the job" and your restoration. A lot of sanding and re-priming is the hardest and most boring job but it pays off in the end when the paint is applied. The bugs can be removed once the primer is dry, just wipe them off. use 320 grit sand paper for the first sanding on the first coat of primer. maybe even on the second. Use 600 grit sand paper on the last coat of prime before paint to remove all scratches from any coarser sand paper used before. Also when using tack cloth don't push hard on the surface as you wipe it. You can leave the sticky residue on the paint/prime and it ca ruin your paint job. Just lightly wipe to get all dust and dirt to stick to it and removed from the car. Just my 2 cents. Great work and good luck. P.S. When reinstalling the front and rear windshields you might call a professional car window installer. You don't want any water leak in the car and they do it every day. I've done a lot of things on the cars over the years but that is not one of them and i will have a pro installer replace my cracked windshield in my truck.
I have spray primered a few cars the bugs dont matter and you will sand those things out. I like the roller plan also you could roll on more on lows it probably builds well also. Good work.
You guys are great. It was nice of Eastwood to supply that primer kit. But, if you had been paying for the primer kit yourselves, for not much more you could have bought a compressor, spray gun and some epoxy primer. And you could spray the whole car in 20 minutes and the primer would be hard the next day. Just a thought for next time. Like I said, you guys are great. I especially like that you gave your Falcon a name :)
I see the kit with the urethane primer online for around $500, which wouldn’t even buy a compressor capable of spraying paint well, plus drier, hoses, gun - and then also buying the paint. Plus the cleanup of the gun, etc. and the advantage to the roller of no overspray. For a DIY job, you’ve only got a few hours on the weekend to work on it anyway, so the 5-day wait isn’t a deal breaker, IMO. Gotta say I think the roller is the way to go!!
I’ve been thinking about using “opti flow’ thanks for seeing it used! Maybe some time before I get it but I saved this video so it will remind me to order it thru U
FYI - Next time, always pour with the spout on the upside of the can and it will pour out dripless every time. I'm restoring a 63 Futura and your tips and experiences are VERY helpful.. Good luck and say hi to Carl for me.
How many coats did you use I am using this for a large sign so I'm not sure how many coats I actually need there will be very little if any sanding, how does it cover?
Quick question. Ho was the smell in the garage after. While it was curing? Thinking of doing this in my garage but it’s below the bedrooms attached to my house. I’m worried about the smell going upstairs.
That's a really good question and something that would have been good for us to address in the video. In a word, it is STRONG. Anytime we spray paint, especially with 2K paint or doing the OptiFlow, the fume smell would find its way into the entire first floor. Now, we don't have the best seal on our garage door, and I feel like if we put some effort into sealing it up that it would be a lot better, BUT to answer your question, yes the fumes are definitely there and if your garage door isn't sealed pretty well, then you'll probably need to open windows in your house (like we did). Hope that helps.
@@joepeltola52 Good question! We're actually going to partner with a shop to have it done. We are working that out now, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to be in the booth and maybe even do a little spraying myself--even though that is really scary. Can't wait!!
Yes, the epoxy sands really nicely. We just finished sanding our first layers of epoxy on the hood and trunk lid, then we did body filler to low areas, sanded again, and just put on 2 more coats of epoxy. Soon we'll be doing that to the rest of the car. Then once it's all in it's second stage of epoxy, then we'll sand it again and put on 3 or 4 coats of urethane primer. Once we sand that, then we'll be ready for paint.
Next week's video will show us sanding down the first coats of epoxy, filling low spots, and then re-sealing with more epoxy layers. Just did the hood and trunk lid so far.
Good job. Work with what you have and do the best you can. But if you get a chance to learn how to run a spray gun, take it. Spraying makes that job far easier once you know how.
This is exactly the video I needed to see. Thank you!
Been waiting to see somebody test that roll on primer.
Thanks again for saving an old 4 door Falcon.
I'm going to try my best! Thank you!!
Fantastic work El, loving the progress!
Thank you so much and thank you for all of your support from the very beginning!!!
I am a long time spray gun guy but that actually looked pretty good......now if you can do a roll on for the paint too.
Good work. Never heard of roll-on primer for a car. Learn something new every day.

Great job Ellie and dad. I always spray paint but even though I'm 66 I might try this way in the futura, Ha ha. Keep on going!
Thank you! In the Futura!!! 😂😂😂

Good job. Now you're all set to roll Interlux Brightside for your color finish.
Great job, thanks for sharing....hoping to roll epoxy primer on a camper shell 💯
Looks REALLY GOOD, LOL, I rolled a old truck of mine years ago, just used the off the shelf Rustoleum, GREAT to see a young woman that ISN'T lazy !

We're liking it so far. More videos to come!
Good for you guys love it ! I never would’ve tried that myself I would call in the glass guy to do it good for you
Thank you! We'll see how it goes getting it back in. Ha.
I totally get the Evan and Katelyn reference. There has to be a decent overlap between the maker and car communities.

Now that the windshield and back glass is out you can properly install the headliner
I guess I'm very old school, use to stay on primer now we're rolling it on. I feel old😭😭
😀 Don't worry. We'll definitely still be spraying on the paint. 😃

Can you sand the epoxy primer? Are you adding another type of primer on top?
Yes, the epoxy sands really nicely. When pouring out of a 1 gallon can with a handle pour across the top, it will pour much cleaner and not run down your van.
PC l 2K epoxy primer and sealer can you use a roller on this type of material where can you find the rollers foam brushes Eddie
Don't know why company's call epoxy primer it is a sealer 2 k primer is what you block sand and guide coat to get ready for paint
use guitar string to cut out front and back glass...
Cut the inside rubber gasket off and easily push out.
Bought 60 dollar gallon of speedkote fill primer, it rolled on fine, not spending 200 dollars on eastwood ripoff

Now you'll know why they charge 5,000.00 for a paint job....
YES!!
I thought the car was already done.
We've got A LOT left to do. 😉
Would not think to use a roller.
Yea, this is a pretty new kit from Eastwood and we've been happy with it so far.
Before painting shut the building up and set off some bug bombs it will save you some heartache
Do you have to go down to bare metal?
Why cant you roll on any brand of primer?
