It makes me think she was already abusive prior. Maybe not physically or even to her kids. But Clara probably was abusive to others in her life. Or she was so mentally ill the kids should have been removed from her care before Ana ever came into the picture. Clara herself may have needed to be cared for herself.
If you understand anything abt cults and brainwashing you would know no one is actually safe from it. It's just like being in an abusive relationship. Obviously these people target on purpose people that would be easier to break down and manipulate. There's a strong group mentality. Clara was both a victim and the abuser. But to assume she was already an abusive parent previously when there's no proof of that is just wrong.

Danielle, as a Czech I would like to thank you for covering this complicated case. I lived in Prague when the boys were rescued and the case was all over the Czech media. Not much is known about Klara and Katerina these days. When Barbora was released from prison, she had to have a legal guardian appointed. She is now cared for by human rights activists who clearly believe that SHE was the victim 😮. Barbora told them she was forced to participate in the child abuse and was herself a victim of a sexual abuse.
She was a friend (if not a girlfriend) of Bohuš Matuš, so who knows what actually happened to her. It's still not an apology for what was done to the boys, anyway.
@@suzannew4293 It's a creepy singer, he's quite known for his tendency to have very young (or very young looking) girlfriends. His current wife is 19 and he is 49, but he met her when she was 14. They have a small daughter already and it's like a constant "joke" how her first skill was how to lock her room etc. (And there are other issues with him, like that he was in a huge debt, but started family with this young woman, so her parents, who are probably younger than her husband, needed to cover some of the expenses of this new family.)
Barbara may have been abused but it was absolutely NO excuse for anything she did….she should have been kept locked away for life, who knows what she is doing behind closed doors. What a creep 🤢🤢🤢

I think it's so bizarre that Clara hears "Ana's" sad story of abuse and decided to help her. Yet she didn't think twice to start abusing her own sons. Like that literally makes no sense, those poor kids.
This story just reinforces that if you notice that your children suddenly out of nowhere seem to be acting out you talk to and LISTEN to them. There is always a reason and communication is the only right way to start.
I am a writer. I started my professional career writing True Crime and have also worked with equestrian units of local law enforcement. I can handle a lot. I have seen a lot. (Never go to dinner with detectives or coroners, we develop very strange ways to deal with things.) I can tell you NONE of them have ever handled anything with this roller coaster of horror, nor have I. Yeah, I DID have to 'stop and pick up my jaw', and I already knew about a different 'adult poses as child to hide in unsuspecting family' case, but it was NOTHING like this. I think I'm fairly insane with anger right now, and I literally had to stop and say a prayer for Jakob and Andre. I don't know how you got through this, I have sat through two murder trials as a reporter and I was nearly sobbing when you summed this up. I hope these two young men have the best support system on this planet for the rest of their lives. NO Child, NO ONE should EVER have to learn that, yes, Monsters ARE real....and they are other human beings. You're strong as steel.

Is it just me or was anyone else not surprised Barbara wasn't actually 13? The first picture came up and I was wondering if it was taken years after the fact, but then the "cancer" pic that was supposedly taken around the time confirmed to me that yup, that's an adult conwoman. I have no idea how she managed to fool anyone, being small and dainty does not conceal other obvious signs of aging.
Children just love their parents so unconditionally. Nothing is more amazing than how much a child loves their mother. That witch does not deserve them.
Even with all this tragedy, I’m so happy that no one died! It’s nice to hear a case once in a while where nobody dies, and the victims are able to escape and be freed! The short sentences are maddening, but I’m just happy the boys were able to escape those evil monsters. What I wanna know is- where was the dad and rest of the family at during that whole year?!!? No one tried to visit them that entire time?!!? 😢
The only thing I can think of (which isn't okay remotely) is that Clara had cut them off. Maybe they believed they were safe within their mothers grasp enough that they felt police would be drastic. But some mothers are cruel disgusting humans that choose to have their children erased from their fathers lives and are so selfish and manipulative that they don't see (or care) the harm they're doing to their own children and their other family members. It's truly sick.

They both work a ton, so if and when I ever have kids we would be taking fun trips to see mimi and grandpa in Atlanta. (those are the names I already picked for my kids to call them because my moms name is Michelle and doesn't want to be called grandma, so mimi actually works so perfect, and my dad is just grandpa lol). It would be very hard for them to be the ones visiting, and yes I am close to them. Although, I highly doubt that's the case with this video lol. For many normal people though thats often the case, haha.
I am so angry Barbara only got 5 years, but I'm also angry that the boy's father didn't push to remain in the boy's lives when the parents split up. If he had, then the abuse would have never been able to take place.
I wouldn't blame him without knowing more because maybe he did try and we don't know what kind of arrangement or legal rights he had. But then again, maybe he just let it go and didn't really try. Which would be awful especially since he knew Klara was mentally ill.
Lot of the times, fathers are the "less" parent here. It's kinda hard for fathers to get full custody of their children. Usually, the mother must be very neglectful or abusive or an addict or be in a lot of debt to be deemed as unable to care for the child so that the father can have full custody
I never thought I'd find myself saying this but the fact there was a cult involved actually helps provide some context to the insanity of this case. The abuse of the children is horrendous.
I am also a Czech and a journalist as well and I remember how difficult this case was. There are still many questions which were never answered. Especially those about the cult. There are not much information about boys these days. It is said that Ondřej graduated at art school and Jakub is adult and works for several years now already. But they keep very private. Not much known is about Barbora/Anna/Adam - the last information was that she had developed even bigger mental problems. It is said that Anička and Adam were replaced by six boys from six to fourteen years of age in her mind and that she was switching between these personalities. She had university degree before this case happen. It is also said that she is a perpetrator as well as a victim as she was abused before the whole Kuřim case. And as for sentences - yes, they vere ridiculously low. Unfortunately our law system is quite moderate. Life sentences are given very rarely, only for the worst murders. In my more than 25 year career as an journalist I remmember to report about only three life sentences in my region. Currently there are less than 50 prisoners with life sentence in the whole country. It is not uncommon that a convicted murderer gets less than 20 years in prison. Very sad...

This is all so bizarre. As someone with DID, hallucinations, and other mental illnesses, it's insane to me how all these people needed such help, but no one, not even themselves cared? I just wish any of them had a single piece support, or had gotten help.
Yeah, I gotta be honest, I think Barbara definitely has something psychological going on with her. They maybe just didn't catch it at that time, but I wonder if a psychological assessment of her today would show different. There is definitely something g 'wrong' with her brain. I'm just glad that the boys got the help they needed after what they had to endure.

I agree. I love true crime but have not been able to watch make up videos. I have tried several. I just find them annoying. But Danielle's story telling ability, compassion, and case selection is so engaging that I am a fan.
I don't understand how anyone thought Barbara was a child. She looks like a middle aged woman in every photo. And while I have sympathy for Clara being manipulated by Katerina (why does she hate her sister so much???) and Barbara, what she did to her kids and allowed to happen to her kids is morally repugnant. I get that she had mental health issues, but nothing should have been able to convince her to allow any of these things to happen let alone actively *participate* in them

Cases where someone like Clara goes from being a victim to becoming such an evil person always get me wondering. Was she a ticking time bomb? Is it possible to manipulate an adult into becoming evil? Was she already abusive of her sons?
I normally sympathize with the parents in cases like this because my own mother was manipulated into neglecting us and I know it wasn't her intention. But this case blows my mind. No sympathy for Clara. I don't care how manipulative Barbara was, how is a 6 year old "bullyin" a 13 year old? Get real. There's no way Clara was innocent and she deserves a much longer sentence. A 6 year old CAN bully a 13 year old that's tally not the point, torture isn't the solution though something was obvious wrong with Klara she massaged that "girl" amdher privates for up to 8 hours. My son has vein disorder and has compression therapy everyday and therapeutic massage is real however I couldn't do it for 8hrs not even professionals can and I wouldn't massage his privates. She was an easy target becIseofnher mental instability, she wanted to be a savior. It's all fuct up for sure and definitely made me nauseated, this wasn't one to have a snack for. Blessings to those boys and the other kids harmed by these sick people may hell truly exist for them

I love scary movies, and that movie was certainly that. My family doesn't share my taste in movies and can't understand why I would want to be scared. What I tell them is that these are only movies. What scares me are the real life stories that make me believe that true evil is all around us. That's truly frightening.
A sad number of breeders don't deserve the title of mother. It seems like a lot of the worst people can pop out kids to neglect and abuse while a lot of good people can't have kids.

The way this case was cracked gave me absolute chills. To have innocently bought a monitor when they did and it just so happen to malfunction like that… just gave me chills. So glad the authorities took the neighbour seriously and worked with him immediately to help find that poor little boy :( tragic x

I have BPD and have been very prone to manipulation in the past because of the mental weakness from my disorder but I would NEVER in a MILLION YEARS be manipulated into harming my girls! Mental health disorders are absolutely no excuse for anything like this. It's absolutely abhorrent. My fingers are bleeding atm because I hadn't realised how much i was biting my fingers while listening to this. Thank you for telling their story and kudos for being able to keep it together. Exactly. I suffer from serious mental illness..nothing could ever convince me to hurt babies like this. How could you do those things to children. I am furious and I hope their abusers suffer greatly for their crimes, but no suffering could be enough for the lives they have destroyed.

This case had me at the edge of my seat and Barbara manipulate Clara and Katarina into abusing the former's own sons. I hope that we will find Barbara's father, because he is still wanted and is also accountable to the torture of Clara's sons. Lastly, the prison sentences to the suspects are WAY TOO LOW. All three deserved life sentences and I am mad about it.
To be honest I think it was first and foremost Katarina that manipulated her sister. She was pretending to be the professor, she was diagnosed as a highly manipulative and narcissistic person. Barbora was an important part in this puzzle but it was Katarina and than Klara who lead to the mose of the abuse.
@@zofiazajdel Oh I must have mixed up while I was listening to the case. Never have I heard a case that one of the suspects is the mother of her own 2 children, who joined in abusing her sons and she got away with it. I know the 2 sons (don't know the spelling of their names) are trying to reconnect with their mother after she was released from prison, but the lasting effects of trauma will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
This case still haunts the whole Czech Republic, because although we are amongst the safiest countries in the world, there is always a possibility something like this can happen and will happen everywhere. Also how big the influence of someone else can be and that such a horrific outcome is possible. I live close to Kuřim and it's still hard for me to come near there. @@kaneykane3449 probabily not but it's not up to the people but laws which were establishes a long time ago and haven't been updated because crime rate in Czech is nothing compared to USA states where most states have far harsher punishments due to really high crime rate. This is a common problem in many European countries with low crime rate. Crime laws have not been changed or updated for decades to fit the modern times or new crime rate or how extreme these crimes could be. That's why paedofile cases, torture, rape mostly don't have high enough punishment rate. Many rapists and padophiles go to prison for barely a year, even murderes can get punishments under a decade.

You can't possibly compare our two countries. Your crime rate should not change how you punish a child abuser or a murderer. Those are the worst crimes on earth. Granted, you are slightly better than Russia but not by much, you only have good relations with Europe but you treat the rest of the world as your peasants while not giving a fuck about human rights. A person convicted of kidnapping, assaulting and killing 101 little girls (but confessed to many more) received life sentences, multiple ones, but all those were capped at 16 years! That may had been ecuador. It's sickening. That monster even said he would do it again and couldn't wait. He served 14 years. The disturbing truth did a fantastic video about it. Its completely horrible.

At first I felt bad for the mother bc it seemed she was tricked. But when she took advice from a “ 13 year old & an anonymous dr” I was like yeah she just as guilty! ANDD the fact she participated in it was mind blowing 😮 those poor boys! You went along with this???” And it wasn’t little things like no tv for a week or extra chores or whatever, it was isolating them from the rest of the world and not just “spanking” them, but beating them! It is incomprehensible as a parent of 3, I had my son at 15 years old , that anyone could ever harm a child. I just assume everyone loves their children and would die before they harmed a child. But I'm so very happy you're in a much better place now & I hope the love your baby\ies have for you fills you w\wonder & joy! I'm not a perfect Mother by ANY stretch & I have those days bc I have 4 kids where my patience is thin & I'm losing my mind! But even on my WORST day, I'd never hurt my babies & would rather lose my arm than hurt them! Its mind boggling how ANYBODY could hurt their own baby, when I'm crying over strangers! Unfortunately, I've been in the position to know abuse is happening & struggling to help them bc our system is screwed & oft times kids are ignored in those horrible situations despite ample evidence & witnesses pushing, & others are taken from good homes or bad homes & put in much worse places. But those times I've known abuse was happening I went to CPS & Cops bc its all we're allowed to do unless we kidnap them & risk going to prison & all the kids ending up worse off. The worst 1 was my cousins. We knew as kids they were being hurt but nobody listened. At 20yo our whole fam went w\the oldest of their boys & tried so hard! & The police took him from us & gave him back to them AFTER cps played the abusers the tape of him detailing the abuse to CPS so ... Knowing what he went thru when they got their hands on him has TORTURED me the last 15y. We tried so hard even after & were completely shut out & down & they used the excuse we were out of state. Its devastating. & I shld mention CPS told her 2w in adv when they were doing drug tests & she &her hubby already had a history of issues w\drugs & violence. 1baby was born early & died after 3days due to the LARGE amt of heroine, meth & x in her system. Her next baby was taken away for a bit after being born bc of the amt of drugs in his system bc of her. But... Still they refused to help them. Sorry. This got WAY longer & darker than I intended. I just meant now they believe that we never tried to help them & whatever lies she told them about us forcing the police to take them home to the Abuse bc we didn't want them. & Ugh! WHY isn't there a better way? WHY are there even ppl out there who do this crap? I couldn't hurt anybody unless in defense of someone else. It hurts me that there are kids out there living this! But you gave me hope that it CAN & does get better for some! Sending you ALL the Love 💕 I possibly can! 💖💖💕💕
I have no words for how messed up Clara became to do that to her own sons. She's lucky to have two healthy sons! It is a tale that needs to be told. You're right, because people need to know how manipulative people can be, and sadly how far people can go down into darkness. I want to say that's a cautionary tale, but that doesn't remotely cover it.

I also wanted to say you give a voice to the people who aren't here anymore. You give a voice to the dead and the living for the ones that are still here dealing with the pain. That is something to be admired. You have so many people who you have helped or who you have given them meaning maybe putting them in the right direction in their lives. The girls and guys who look up to you. The biggest thing you do is give the dead a voice, give them empathy, caring for them and the people that they leave behind and you feel for them. Plus you make sure to draw a line about how much time gets spent on the perpetrator and you focus on the victim. That is something that means a lot to their families.

I'm guessing that they claimed he had level 3 autism or some other extremely dehabilitating disorder and that he was in "special ed" and not in the normal class. It's still wild that they didn't notice the scars or anything, but I suppose it's common for special ed kids to be neglected by schools. My aunt is a special ed teacher and she told me she had one student who repeatedly tried to sa other students but she needed to report it multiple times before anything was done.
Because in many countries around the world school lunches are designed so that you can eat with your hands or maximum a spoon/fork combo thing. Sandwiches, pizza, chips, doughnut, burgers, 🥧 savoury pastries etc.
My first thought was, "What a time saver!" LOL! I only spend about ten minutes on my makeup, but if I spent longer on a regular basis, doing something productive at the same time would be great ha ha
Danielle, I discovered your videos last year when I was going through a very rough time in my life. Within a couple of months time I unexpectedly lost a brother, then my best friend of 25 years and then my dog who was by my side for 15 years. I was feeling so alone and the silence was overwhelming. Listening to your true crime stories was very interesting and actually helped me from going crazy. I think you are doing a great job with these videos and the stories you tell. So please know what you are doing is really important for many different reasons including giving a voice to victims of these horrific crimes. This story is so heartbreaking. I literally said , "Thank you, God" when the baby monitor was mentioned. Those poor babies. I'm sickened by how light all of the abusers' sentences were. They should have all been given life, without parole!

Abuse comes in many forms and it's easy to judge her as a mom but obviously something was wrong with her. Not everyone shares the same critical thinking. While some of us can say "this is wrong" others might say "why would my sister encourage this if it's wrong? We are her flesh and blood". May sound stupid, but what's common sense to some isn't so common to others. We have to learn to think outside of our own lives so we can empathize with women like Clara

OmFG!!! Just when I think I have heard the absolute worst!!! Danielle thank you so much for all your hard work on researching these cases and bringing them to light. ❤ a lot of people think my curiosity for these cases is so macabre…. But for me, it opens my eyes to what reality really is. I was born to a upper middle class Catholic family and believe me we had or share of family issues but when you turn a blind eye to other people’s suffering you loose a sense of humanity and your research and diligence to LET this out, your really in essence sharing the suffering and pain of the victims and allowing people to truly understand these horrific events and that makes them real and tangible evidence of their suffering…. One than can be humbled by these and use them to teach us ‘lessons in humility’ bringing us all closer to understanding and hopefully to learning about these crimes and in turn being more thankful for our own situations and trials. How does the father and grandparents not go to the authorities for not being allowed to see the boys? They allowed the access to the children. Every adult in their life let them down. 😢
I mean I live in the UK but my mum struggled to see my brother for long periods of time and she tried to get some help to get him back but she was just ignored, however if she did the same thing the authorities would be knocking at her door. Was very weird. And she had the majority of custody so it made no sense. So perhaps it's just not as straight forward as it seems

But theres plenty of times I can name of ppl going to the authorities to report abuse or report missing ppl & kids they are denied THEIR custody of & its ignored. Usually this is directly bc of the corruption & disfunction of the system. Where the "authority person" just didn't care to do their job for whatever reason. Sometimes lack of funding & I'm SURE economical class, race, religion, gender, whatever prefs play a big role in this for diff cases. I mean individual prefs but there's also the system biases as well. I mean there's SO MANY WAYS it can fail & so few where it can go right & the "right" ways are obviously a lot more complicated & much more work & ppl just don't want to push or whatever. Its absolutely a travesty honestly.
This is mind-blowing - I'd never heard of this case before. The only redeeming factor is that the two boys were rescued before it was too late. There are so many cases of horrific child abuse when help comes way too late to save lives. What an incredible stroke of luck that the baby monitor was picking up the "wrong" signal!!!

I can’t wrap my head around how anyone could be so abusive to children. It hurt my heart to hear all they went through. I am shocked that the abusers got such leniency in their sentences 😢

Same! My kids ( including my stepkids from my a-hole ex) are my reason for living. Along with my grandkids. Hell when I divorced my ex I SOBBED because I thought his kids would have nothing to do with me ( loyalty issue). But they flat out told him they would never cut me out of theirs or their kids lives. He now has nothing to with them and I feel horrible about that, but my eldest told me “that was HIS choice to act like a child”. And she was a daddy’s girl, so this isolation has been tough for her. I just NOTHING would get me to turn on any of my kids.

I will say I believe Clara was manipulated, but I don't care how "brainwashed' someone is, how does the brainwash supersede the love of your children? Nothing and I mean NOTHING could get me to do that to ANY child let alone my own. That’s why I don’t think she was brainwashed. I truly think she’s rotten to her core. Like think about it. People like to think 'I would never', but brainwashing is real...that's why they have to have people who *deprogram* them, because they no longer think like a normal person. It's hard to fathom, if you haven't been through it, but it's shockingly easy to brainwash someone. I was a child who was heavily abused, and I was brainwashed - I was told that if I told anyone, "Then who will take care of us?" and it was implied that my father would be the one sent to jail, and not my narcissistic stepmother who was the one manipulating and abusing us both, and she had brainwashed HIM into beating me and making me sleep on the cold tile floor, and I was forced to wear old, ugly clothes when I went to school, etc. And my dad was a good man. He spent years fighting to get me away from my mother who had drug problems - but I imagine he was afraid to divorce this awful woman, afraid to be alone, and she'd scream at him and screech until he did what she wanted. In the end, I understand that he was abused as well, but I don't forgive him, because he was an adult who should have protected me, instead of leaving me with PTSD for the rest of my adult life (and nearly driving me to kill myself as a teen). But all that's to say that anyone can be brainwashed - especially when in the grips of a cult run by professionals.
I △⃒⃘lways have to take breaks like every other month or so when hearing a handful of these stories.. Danielle you are truly a gift to this world. The fact that it was so easy to manipulate Clara into abusing her sons tells me there was always something in her that was sick and twisted.
It makes me think she was already abusive prior. Maybe not physically or even to her kids. But Clara probably was abusive to others in her life. Or she was so mentally ill the kids should have been removed from her care before Ana ever came into the picture. Clara herself may have needed to be cared for herself.
If you understand anything abt cults and brainwashing you would know no one is actually safe from it. It's just like being in an abusive relationship. Obviously these people target on purpose people that would be easier to break down and manipulate. There's a strong group mentality. Clara was both a victim and the abuser. But to assume she was already an abusive parent previously when there's no proof of that is just wrong.
There must've been as it makes no sense. I'm a mother & I'm more than certain nobody would be able to brainwash me into harming my children. It would just never happen.

Danielle, as a Czech I would like to thank you for covering this complicated case. I lived in Prague when the boys were rescued and the case was all over the Czech media. Not much is known about Klara and Katerina these days. When Barbora was released from prison, she had to have a legal guardian appointed. She is now cared for by human rights activists who clearly believe that SHE was the victim 😮. Barbora told them she was forced to participate in the child abuse and was herself a victim of a sexual abuse.
She was a friend (if not a girlfriend) of Bohuš Matuš, so who knows what actually happened to her. It's still not an apology for what was done to the boys, anyway.

@@suzannew4293 It's a creepy singer, he's quite known for his tendency to have very young (or very young looking) girlfriends. His current wife is 19 and he is 49, but he met her when she was 14. They have a small daughter already and it's like a constant "joke" how her first skill was how to lock her room etc. (And there are other issues with him, like that he was in a huge debt, but started family with this young woman, so her parents, who are probably younger than her husband, needed to cover some of the expenses of this new family.)
Barbara may have been abused but it was absolutely NO excuse for anything she did….she should have been kept locked away for life, who knows what she is doing behind closed doors. What a creep 🤢🤢🤢

I am a writer. I started my professional career writing True Crime and have also worked with equestrian units of local law enforcement. I can handle a lot. I have seen a lot. (Never go to dinner with detectives or coroners, we develop very strange ways to deal with things.) I can tell you NONE of them have ever handled anything with this roller coaster of horror, nor have I. Yeah, I DID have to 'stop and pick up my jaw', and I already knew about a different 'adult poses as child to hide in unsuspecting family' case, but it was NOTHING like this. I think I'm fairly insane with anger right now, and I literally had to stop and say a prayer for Jakob and Andre. I don't know how you got through this, I have sat through two murder trials as a reporter and I was nearly sobbing when you summed this up. I hope these two young men have the best support system on this planet for the rest of their lives. NO Child, NO ONE should EVER have to learn that, yes, Monsters ARE real....and they are other human beings. You're strong as steel.
I also had to stop and pray for those precious boys.
They're in my prayers as well and God bless you for what you see and go through and still keep it together to push these cases into public eyes.

Is it just me or was anyone else not surprised Barbara wasn't actually 13? The first picture came up and I was wondering if it was taken years after the fact, but then the "cancer" pic that was supposedly taken around the time confirmed to me that yup, that's an adult conwoman. Even with all this tragedy, I’m so happy that no one died! It’s nice to hear a case once in a while where nobody dies, and the victims are able to escape and be freed! The short sentences are maddening, but I’m just happy the boys were able to escape those evil monsters.

That was my question! The grandparents and father did not see them in over a year? They did not get authorities involved?!
The only thing I can think of (which isn't okay remotely) is that Clara had cut them off. Maybe they believed they were safe within their mothers grasp enough that they felt police would be drastic. But some mothers are cruel disgusting humans that choose to have their children erased from their fathers lives and are so selfish and manipulative that they don't see (or care) the harm they're doing to their own children and their other family members. It's truly sick.

@@dangerousxoladyI'm just beginning this video as I type this but I live in Los Angeles with my husband and my parents still live in Atlanta where I'm originally from. They both work a ton, so if and when I ever have kids we would be taking fun trips to see mimi and grandpa in Atlanta. (those are the names I already picked for my kids to call them because my moms name is Michelle and doesn't want to be called grandma, so mimi actually works so perfect, and my dad is just grandpa lol). It would be very hard for them to be the ones visiting, and yes I am close to them.

I am so angry Barbara only got 5 years, but I'm also angry that the boy's father didn't push to remain in the boy's lives when the parents split up. If he had, then the abuse would have never been able to take place.

Lot of the times, fathers are the "less" parent here. It's kinda hard for fathers to get full custody of their children. Usually, the mother must be very neglectful or abusive or an addict or be in a lot of debt to be deemed as unable to care for the child so that the father can have full custody

I never thought I'd find myself saying this but the fact there was a cult involved actually helps provide some context to the insanity of this case. The abuse of the children is horrendous.
I am also a Czech and a journalist as well and I remember how difficult this case was. There are still many questions which were never answered. Especially those about the cult. There are not much information about boys these days. It is said that Ondřej graduated at art school and Jakub is adult and works for several years now already. But they keep very private. Not much known is about Barbora/Anna/Adam - the last information was that she had developed even bigger mental problems. It is said that Anička and Adam were replaced by six boys from six to fourteen years of age in her mind and that she was switching between these personalities. She had university degree before this case happen. It is also said that she is a perpetrator as well as a victim as she was abused before the whole Kuřim case. And as for sentences - yes, they vere ridiculously low. Unfortunately our law system is quite moderate. Life sentences are given very rarely, only for the worst murders. In my more than 25 year career as an journalist I remmember to report about only three life sentences in my region. Currently there are less than 50 prisoners with life sentence in the whole country. It is not uncommon that a convicted murderer gets less than 20 years in prison. Very sad...

This is all so bizarre. As someone with DID, hallucinations, and other mental illnesses, it's insane to me how all these people needed such help, but no one, not even themselves cared?
I just wish any of them had a single piece support, or had gotten help.
Yeah, I gotta be honest, I think Barbara definitely has something psychological going on with her. They maybe just didn't catch it at that time, but I wonder if a psychological assessment of her today would show different. There is definitely something g 'wrong' with her brain.
I'm just glad that the boys got the help they needed after what they had to endure.

I agree. I love true crime but have not been able to watch make up videos. I have tried several. I just find them annoying. But Danielle's story telling ability, compassion, and case selection is so engaging that I am a fan.

Cases where someone like Clara goes from being a victim to becoming such an evil person always get me wondering. Was she a ticking time bomb? Is it possible to manipulate an adult into becoming evil? Was she already abusive of her sons?

A 6 year old CAN bully a 13 year old that's tally not the point, torture isn't the solution though something was obvious wrong with Klara she massaged that "girl" amdher privates for up to 8 hours. My son has vein disorder and has compression therapy everyday and therapeutic massage is real however I couldn't do it for 8hrs not even professionals can and I wouldn't massage his privates. She was an easy target becIseofnher mental instability, she wanted to be a savior. It's all fuct up for sure and definitely made me nauseated, this wasn't one to have a snack for. Blessings to those boys and the other kids harmed by these sick people may hell truly exist for them

I love scary movies, and that movie was certainly that. My family doesn't share my taste in movies and can't understand why I would want to be scared. What I tell them is that these are only movies. What scares me are the real life stories that make me believe that true evil is all around us. That's truly frightening.

The way this case was cracked gave me absolute chills. To have innocently bought a monitor when they did and it just so happen to malfunction like that… just gave me chills. So glad the authorities took the neighbour seriously and worked with him immediately to help find that poor little boy :( tragic x

I have BPD and have been very prone to manipulation in the past because of the mental weakness from my disorder but I would NEVER in a MILLION YEARS be manipulated into harming my girls! Mental health disorders are absolutely no excuse for anything like this. It's absolutely abhorrent. My fingers are bleeding atm because I hadn't realised how much i was biting my fingers while listening to this. Thank you for telling their story and kudos for being able to keep it together. I know i couldn't have done it.

Im with you on being an autumn and winter person but you did brilliantly here. It was not easy to tell you were unwell. Hope things get better. Thank you for raising awareness of this harrowing case. Its a weird sort of revenge for her to take against people mistaking her for a child, to go ahead and live like a child!! Seems very odd that she got away with it all again and again having been committed. The whole case seems like a very unfortunate bringing together and combination of people with mental health issues and cruel streaks. Katerina was horrible to her sister for putting her in this awful position. How deranged can anyone be to think the people doing this to children have any clue on how to be good people. This case had me at the edge of my seat and Barbara manipulate Clara and Katarina into abusing the former's own sons. I hope that we will find Barbara's father, because he is still wanted and is also accountable to the torture of Clara's sons. Lastly, the prison sentences to the suspects are WAY TOO LOW. All three deserved life sentences and I am mad about it.
To be honest I think it was first and foremost Katarina that manipulated her sister. She was pretending to be the professor, she was diagnosed as a highly manipulative and narcissistic person. Barbora was an important part in this puzzle but it was Katarina and than Klara who lead to the mose of the abuse.
@@zofiazajdel Oh I must have mixed up while I was listening to the case. Never have I heard a case that one of the suspects is the mother of her own 2 children, who joined in abusing her sons and she got away with it. I know the 2 sons (don't know the spelling of their names) are trying to reconnect with their mother after she was released from prison, but the lasting effects of trauma will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

This case still haunts the whole Czech Republic, because although we are amongst the safiest countries in the world, there is always a possibility something like this can happen and will happen everywhere. Also how big the influence of someone else can be and that such a horrific outcome is possible. I live close to Kuřim and it's still hard for me to come near there. @@kaneykane3449 probabily not but it's not up to the people but laws which were establishes a long time ago and haven't been updated because crime rate in Czech is nothing compared to USA states where most states have far harsher punishments due to really high crime rate. This is a common problem in many European countries with low crime rate. Crime laws have not been changed or updated for decades to fit the modern times or new crime rate or how extreme these crimes could be. That's why paedofile cases, torture, rape mostly don't have high enough punishment rate. Many rapists and padophiles go to prison for barely a year, even murderes can get punishments under a decade.

You can't possibly compare our two countries. Your crime rate should not change how you punish a child abuser or a murderer. Those are the worst crimes on earth. A person convicted of kidnapping, assaulting and killing 101 little girls (but confessed to many more) received life sentences, multiple ones, but all those were capped at 16 years! That may had been ecuador. It's sickening. That monster even said he would do it again and couldn't wait. He served 14 years. The disturbing truth did a fantastic video about it. Its completely horrible.

At first I felt bad for the mother bc it seemed she was tricked. But when she took advice from a “ 13 year old & an anonymous dr” I was like yeah she just as guilty! ANDD the fact she participated in it was mind blowing 😮 those poor boys! You went along with this???” And it wasn’t little things like no tv for a week or extra chores or whatever, it was isolating them from the rest of the world and not just “spanking” them, but beating them! Bissshhhh!!! You didn’t get it together and do the simple math?? You didn’t hit the pause button? You didn’t look into this “doctor” you didn’t get a second opinion, you didn’t question anything? It is incomprehensible as a parent of 3, I had my son at 15 years old , that anyone could ever harm a child. I just assume everyone loves their children and would die before they harmed a child. At 20yo our whole fam went w\the oldest of their boys & tried so hard! & The police took him from us & gave him back to them AFTER cps played the abusers the tape of him detailing the abuse to CPS so ... Knowing what he went thru when they got their hands on him has TORTURED me the last 15y. We tried so hard even after & were completely shut out & down & they used the excuse we were out of state. Its devastating. & I shld mention CPS told her 2w in adv when they were doing drug tests & she &her hubby already had a history of issues w\drugs & violence. 1baby was born early & died after 3days due to the LARGE amt of heroine, meth & x in her system. Her next baby was taken away for a bit after being born bc of the amt of drugs in his system bc of her. But... Still they refused to help them. Sorry. This got WAY longer & darker than I intended. I just meant now they believe that we never tried to help them & whatever lies she told them about us forcing the police to take them home to the Abuse bc we didn't want them. & Ugh! WHY isn't there a better way? WHY are there even ppl out there who do this crap? I couldn't hurt anybody unless in defense of someone else. It hurts me that there are kids out there living this! That is something to be admired. You have so many people who you have helped or who you have given them meaning maybe putting them in the right direction in their lives. The girls and guys who look up to you. The biggest thing you do is give the dead a voice, give them empathy, caring for them and the people that they leave behind and you feel for them. Plus you make sure to draw a line about how much time gets spent on the perpetrator and you focus on the victim. That is something that means a lot to their families.

I'm guessing that they claimed he had level 3 autism or some other extremely dehabilitating disorder and that he was in "special ed" and not in the normal class.
It's still wild that they didn't notice the scars or anything, but I suppose it's common for special ed kids to be neglected by schools.
My aunt is a special ed teacher and she told me she had one student who repeatedly tried to sa other students but she needed to report it multiple times before anything was done.

Danielle, I discovered your videos last year when I was going through a very rough time in my life. Within a couple of months time I unexpectedly lost a brother, then my best friend of 25 years and then my dog who was by my side for 15 years. I was feeling so alone and the silence was overwhelming. Listening to your true crime stories was very interesting and actually helped me from going crazy. I think you are doing a great job with these videos and the stories you tell. So please know what you are doing is really important for many different reasons including giving a voice to victims of these horrific crimes. This story is so heartbreaking. I literally said , "Thank you, God" when the baby monitor was mentioned. Those poor babies. I'm sickened by how light all of the abusers' sentences were. They should have all been given life, without parole!
“Anna” is clearly a sadistic psychopath. Those poor boys. I can’t imagine how this Mother turned on her own kids. Brainwashing doesn’t even explain it to me.

I just kept waiting for the moment Clara would realize how crazy she was being, how abusive she was being, how manipulative these people were..... but she didn't. You can say "Oh but this happened over a long period of time, she was manipulated. You cant say you wouldn't have been manipulated.", but come on! THESE ARE YOUR CHILDREN! How on God's green earth do you allow these people to torture your children and not only that, but talk you into PARTICIPATING in the abuse? It disgusts me. Especially how she took deep pity for "Anna" when she "went through so much hurt and pain" but she turns around and does real pain to her OWN CHILDREN. Pain that can NEVER be undone and no amount of crying in the court room will ever sway me to feeling pity for this abhorrent failure of a mother. Brainwashing and manipulation is one thing, but if you take it to abuse of others, especially children, pity is out the window and I will have no mercy for you.

Abuse comes in many forms and it's easy to judge her as a mom but obviously something was wrong with her. Not everyone shares the same critical thinking. While some of us can say "this is wrong" others might say "why would my sister encourage this if it's wrong? We are her flesh and blood". May sound stupid, but what's common sense to some isn't so common to others. We have to learn to think outside of our own lives so we can empathize with women like Clara

OmFG!!! Just when I think I have heard the absolute worst!!! Danielle thank you so much for all your hard work on researching these cases and bringing them to light. ❤ a lot of people think my curiosity for these cases is so macabre…. But for me, it opens my eyes to what reality really is. I was born to a upper middle class Catholic family and believe me we had or share of family issues but when you turn a blind eye to other people’s suffering you loose a sense of humanity and your research and diligence to LET this out, your really in essence sharing the suffering and pain of the victims and allowing people to truly understand these horrific events and that makes them real and tangible evidence of their suffering…. One than can be humbled by these and use them to teach us ‘lessons in humility’ bringing us all closer to understanding and hopefully to learning about these crimes and in turn being more thankful for our own situations and trials. Thank you Danielle and I absolutely love both you and Bailey Sarian for all that you do!!! KEEP doing it!!! And I’ll keep watching learning and growing from them!!!!❤

I mean I live in the UK but my mum struggled to see my brother for long periods of time and she tried to get some help to get him back but she was just ignored, however if she did the same thing the authorities would be knocking at her door. Was very weird. And she had the majority of custody so it made no sense. So perhaps it's just not as straight forward as it seems
@@dark_baphomet💯 That's what I was going to say. We don't KNOW that nobody went & tried to make noise & get heard. This was also b4 Social Media was as wide spread as now into EVERY household. But theres plenty of times I can name of ppl going to the authorities to report abuse or report missing ppl & kids they are denied THEIR custody of & its ignored. Usually this is directly bc of the corruption & disfunction of the system. Where the "authority person" just didn't care to do their job for whatever reason. Sometimes lack of funding & I'm SURE economical class, race, religion, gender, whatever prefs play a big role in this for diff cases. I mean individual prefs but there's also the system biases as well. I mean there's SO MANY WAYS it can fail & so few where it can go right & the "right" ways are obviously a lot more complicated & much more work & ppl just don't want to push or whatever. Its absolutely a travesty honestly.
This is mind-blowing - I'd never heard of this case before. The only redeeming factor is that the two boys were rescued before it was too late. There are so many cases of horrific child abuse when help comes way too late to save lives. What an incredible stroke of luck that the baby monitor was picking up the "wrong" signal!!!
You're amazing Danielle for working on this stuff even when you're ill. My heart breaks for the boys and I'm just amazed it was allowed to go on for so long.
Edit: it's things like the baby monitor story that makes me think there's something up there that is trying hard to push back against evil. Certainly, Edvard is the hero of this story for noticing and investigating. He deserves a medal.

I can’t wrap my head around how anyone could be so abusive to children. It hurt my heart to hear all they went through. I am shocked that the abusers got such leniency in their sentences 😢

Same! My kids ( including my stepkids from my a-hole ex) are my reason for living. Along with my grandkids.
Hell when I divorced my ex I SOBBED because I thought his kids would have nothing to do with me ( loyalty issue).
But they flat out told him they would never cut me out of theirs or their kids lives.
He now has nothing to with them and I feel horrible about that, but my eldest told me “that was HIS choice to act like a child”. And she was a daddy’s girl, so this isolation has been tough for her.
I just NOTHING would get me to turn on any of my kids.

I will say I believe Clara was manipulated, but I don't care how "brainwashed' someone is, how does the brainwash supersede the love of your children? Nothing and I mean NOTHING could get me to do that to ANY child let alone my own. That’s why I don’t think she was brainwashed. I truly think she’s rotten to her core. Like think about it. Do you know ANY person who could do that to a child, especially their own child?! No way! She knew what was up and lied she was brainwashed. Anna/Barbara… man I wish I believed in hell cause there’d be a special spot there for her. 🤬
People like to think 'I would never', but brainwashing is real...that's why they have to have people who *deprogram* them, because they no longer think like a normal person. It's hard to fathom, if you haven't been through it, but it's shockingly easy to brainwash someone. I was a child who was heavily abused, and I was brainwashed - I was told that if I told anyone, "Then who will take care of us?" and it was implied that my father would be the one sent to jail, and not my narcissistic stepmother who was the one manipulating and abusing us both, and she had brainwashed HIM into beating me and making me sleep on the cold tile floor, and I was forced to wear old, ugly clothes when I went to school, etc. And my dad was a good man. He spent years fighting to get me away from my mother who had drug problems - but I imagine he was afraid to divorce this awful woman, afraid to be alone, and she'd scream at him and screech until he did what she wanted.
In the end, I understand that he was abused as well, but I don't forgive him, because he was an adult who should have protected me, instead of leaving me with PTSD for the rest of my adult life (and nearly driving me to kill myself as a teen). But all that's to say that anyone can be brainwashed - especially when in the grips of a cult run by professionals.
I △⃒⃘lways have to take breaks like every other month or so when hearing a handful of these stories.. Danielle you are truly a gift to this world. The way you’re able to do this type of research and respectfully tell these victims stories… and that’s how I look at it, I don’t think of it as you telling us about these evil people, but honoring the lives tortured and lost because they deserve to never be forgotten.
