Wrestle Rock Rumble...That was great!!! Maybe at the time it was bad but looking back after so many years, so many wrestling legends very entertaining!
My fav podcast. Growing up I watched Memphis wrestling and wrestling out of Birmingham. When I turned 11 we moved to central Florida below Lakeland and every Sat I was glued to CWF. My two absolute fav wrestlers to listen to is Dutch Mantell and Kevin Sullivan. Both have a laid back way of talking about the good ol days. Back in the late 70’s early 80’s Dirty Dutch had a way of making you believe. When he confronted another wrestler mad you believed it. Also Dutch threw a believable punch. When you look back at the territory days you realize just how bad todays wrestling is. Great podcast James.
Ric Flair once owned several gyms in and around the Charlotte area in the mid - late 90's ...called "Ric Flair's Golds Gym". Some of the wrestlers worked out there, and he would bring wrestlers in for personal appearances to bring in business. They were around for a while but after a few years started in go under.
Funny you guys brought this up (kid watching wrestling 2c their reaction). About 7 years ago I was in my car and picked up my nephew who was around 8 years old at the time and never watched wrestling b4. I had a TNA ppv DVD in the car and popped it in. The opening match had Generation Me (The Young Bucks) in it and I dont remember who it was against. I remember just watching my nephew react to seeing this "wrestling/entertainment" for the 1st time. He popped for everything but what got him the most was actually the "superkick" he just went nuts for it. I think he loved it bc it was a move he could imitate and act out. He loved seeing guys getting whipped into the ropes and knocked down by either clothesline or drop kick. Long long story short he loved The Young Bucks and the superkick. So sometimes that's at it takes to get them in, the kids love the look and moves, they bug their parents to get the ppv, buy the merch, goto the event and you get their money. With kids its not always psychology and Ultimate Warrior is another instance of that and I know bc I was 5-6 years old and he was my favorite and I didn't know shit about psychology.

The thing is, I don’t think Dutch understands… In 1984, the wrestle rock rumble would have been awesome to kids who would’ve then bug their parents to take them to the arena for the show. As goofy as it seems now, back, then, this was the norm. For God sake, the next year… The entire Chicago Bears football team did their own rap. If you ask Musicians from the 80s to look back at their videos, many of them cringe… But, it was a sign of the times. Things were simpler, and people enjoyed the little things seemingly more.
A couple of weeks ago Ric flair was only 20 minutes down the road from me at a local Giant Eagle selling his new energy drink. I still couldn't be bothered 😂
The fact that Matt Hardy charges such an exorbitant fee tells me he must absolutely hate attending these conventions. If someone is willing to pony up the money it'd be impossible to say no but otherwise, who cares...he doesn't want to go in the first place.
