  • Color is peaking at the middle elevations this week in Asheville and the surrounding areas, bringing a boundless bloom of autumn's hues as leaves of carmine red, amber orange and golden yellow ignite the epic landscapes of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Fall Color Hunters Reggie Tidwell and Katie Collin hit the trails again this week in search of the latest fall foliage developments.
    Reggie reports:
Colors at and around Linville Falls are spectacular and everybody knows it now. To avoid crowds, try to go on a Monday or Tuesday. Starting at the main parking lot to the falls, the colors never cease to impress.
There is also plenty of color to take in on the Blue Ridge Parkway from Highway 181 to the Grandfather Mountain Overlook at milepost 306.6. Grandfather Mountain can be seen in all its glory, bathed in autumn bliss.
The stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Linn Cove Viaduct is retaining quite a bit of its peaked color and well worth the visit. Consider trails like Rough Ridge, that give you a good long range view of the engineering marvel.
