- For the first time in over 3 years I’ve left beautiful Thailand. I’ve flown to the UK for a few months of work and it’s FREEZING cold! Also my body no longer works like it used to. This is gonna take some getting used to…
Life in Thailand after leaving the UK.
Join me on my Thailand adventure as I attempt to create a fruit farm on five acres of land, build a house, dig a well for my own water source and install solar panels to become completely off grid!
Watch me generally fumble my way through every process, trying to keep positive and upbeat throughout 🧘♂️

Nightime in rural Kalasin. 40c today, 32c now but feels 37c with 65% humidity. A Jazz saxophonist just gave way to Bass drums in the temple across the road…Molam getting soundchecks: shes good. Got three buckets of water over me while riding to the barber: so greatful…Sonkrans a go-go in Issan…don’t overcook it: UK best in very small portions!
Whe are now 1month and a half back in Belgium after our 3 month Holliday in nongbuha Lamphoo,my body still hurts, neck(artritis)and muscle pains. When whe stayed there in Thailand everything was ok,no pain, yess the comeback here is brutal,I’m serious thinking to go back to Thailand as soon if whe can, good luck Ben
The last time I went home was in April. My bones were screaming with pain and my knees also seized up with the cold. If I go back, it will be in summer. Enjoy your time back in blighty.
Being a chef of 38 yrs myself, couldn’t go back to a commercial kitchen now at 56. Need to keep kitchen fit. Good on ya. Great views. Keep em coming mate
Great ..you can change atmosphere..and understand life deeply more and more..🎉
I did the same back in 1995,I'd been in Pattaya for a few years and came back to the building trade in London and after the first day I went in the pub ans sat down with a pint and I was aching from head to toe, enjoyed the vlog Ben cheers.
Another bonus is coming up to lighter days and you can walk in daylight till 10 at night which you know everyday Thailand 6.30 and it dark
Enjoy the views
I had the same feeling when came back from Thailand back in February, swapped 37 degrees to 3 and rain. Two months later temp is still the same. Got to love northern weather 😂😂
I think youre onto something huge here "The life & times of a relief chef" would make a fascinating RUclips channel.
How about the life and times of retired long distance lorry driver travelling Thailand
I'm doing the Udon Thani - Gatwick trip in a few weeks. Dreading it. If you have a long stop over in BKK there are lounges you can use. Cost about 1000baht.
I did the same journey back to the uk 6 weeks ago I live not far from your farm, and it’s not stopped raining since , I work commercial fishing just down the coast it’s freezing roll on the summer
Beautiful location, stay warm out there.
Thanks for your video!! the landscape in Cumbria is so beautiful, it looks like something out of a movie. I feel sorry for you, stay strong, you will get something nice in return..
Greetings from Khonkaen and Holland near Hoek ven Holland
Wow that pie looks amazing can you drop me one of on your way back through Udon Thani, that blue pipe exposed surely freezes in winter
Bring on the cold weather 🥹5”those pies looked nice 😊
welcome to cumbria, i live in carlisle not to far from where you are, hope you have some spare time to explore the beautiful countryside around you, plenty of cold water around for a dip (ha ha), hope you dont suffer to much from reverse culture shock, thanks for sharing.
Kanchanaburi, 3.45pm, 36c but nice breeze, cold Chang
Thats all you do in this heat drink and sleep, he,s enjoying the walks in the lake district
So nice to change environmant ....
I am not a chef but that kitchen looks very clean and organized. You'll have to take some videos when the restaurant is busy. it looks like fine dining for many customers. It's normal to get a bit sick after a long flight and facing a big climate change. Every time I fly from BKK back to the States (25 hours all together) my body is beat.
Love the video. Great scenery 😊
Welcome to UK Ben, 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I am just up the road from you in Carlisle thinking very seriously in taking the wife to Thailand to see the family in Nakhon Sawan. Enjoy your stay in Cumbria 👍👍🙏🙏
Recognised that pub/hotel straight away, small world! 😅 Love that area👌
Was in Nong Bua Kamphu yesterday no regrets more than 40C by 14;00hrs
🎉when will you back to thailand?
Hope the accomodations are warm 5555
I loved that vlog Ben, a real dose of reality for all us expat Brits over here in Thailand.
Although the scenery is beautiful, even at this time of year, the thought of 2 degs made me break out in a cold sweat, it's 39 here where I am today near Bangkok!
I feel for you mate, compounded by a glimpse of your beloved blue pipe, was that staged, did you stash a piece in your luggage to 'remind you of home'?
Btw, that chicken and ham pie looks delicious, perhaps you are a real chef after all and not a blue pipe plumber!!! 555 555
I know when I've been on holiday for a month or 2 in Thailand.. getting back to carpentry work is brutal.. good luck. Beautiful part of the world.
Thanks Jim 😇😇
Welcome back to my world Ben😂 Great video fella....Blue pipe made me chuckle 😊
Big respect to you, I know nothing of the 'commercial chef world', except it is extremely stressful. It won't be long, time will go quick when your busy and you'll be back home in no time.
I gotta say, what a place to work, flippin heck, it's stunning even at 2 degrees. I hope you get time to do some walking, great for the soul.
Cheers Dave, first day off today so I’m heading up a mountain 🏔️
@@LifeinThailand777 Sweet....I'm just off to my land and it's hotter than hell.!! Take care
I'm back for a month from 24th June until the 25th July to see my family and sell my house. Don't know how I'm gonna handle Scottish weather after 40 degrees here as it is now
Safe journey and be safe.
Very beautiful there!
Ben I was 2022 UK & also got problem with knees & body. Gloucestershire. Sweden is very dry air. Only😂 -11 here❄️🌫️
It may be bloody cold but you end up in some great places for scenery Ben. Never considered travelling to England but who knows
Hi Ben, I've just returned back to the uk myself a couple of weeks ago. I also had a layover in Bahrain, similar length of travel time too. The shock to my system, my body, the cold, going back to work, OMG. I've gone from amazing food to eating cardboard again (I'm no Chef haha). First two days i couldn't get warm. Can't wait to go back.
Ah mate I’m with you. It’s taking some adjusting lol. Maybe we were on same flight. I travelled on 27th march
@@LifeinThailand777 April 4th mate. 7 hour layover in Bahrain (slept through most of it though). Best of luck in your temp job mate.
Nice one ben
Mate, maybe you're onto something. 42 today here in Chiayaphum. I'd rather be in that 4 degree weather. Looking forward to seeing more UK content. Let me know when you're back too mate, still gotta come up for a visit
Defo mate, yeah a catch up in a few months will be good Ricky
🇬🇧 Welcome back to the miserable weather here in the 🇬🇧.
Yes, here in S. Wales it is also bloody cold and very wet. I also came back from Thailand 🇹🇭 in January. It has rained almost every day since I came back, wth only just over a week of no rain. I can't wait to go back to Thailand again.
I’m with you mate. I actually lived in Newport for a few years when I was a little boyo. My fathers from there
I got cold just watching that video haha I’m sitting in 33 degree weather. All the best mate, keep warm.
Really good video, looking foreward to watching more, what is the name of the pub/hotel ? where you are working ?
It hurts for a few weeks when you get back in the kitchen. I'm also a chef living in rural Udon Thani and will be back in London in May for 3 months development chef work. All the best
Ah really? Best of luck mate
@@LifeinThailand777 cheers you too. BTW what did the flight plus suitcase cost UDT to BKK?
@duncannok I can’t remember the cost of flight but it was about an extra £10 for 15kg case. The flight from BKK to Manchester cost only £310 but was a single
Must admit even if its 4 degrees there its better than 40 degrees here in Thailand sat all day under an aircon or fan
And you have the lovely views
I go back to UK to Derbyshire dales end of April, don't mind weather at all put a coat on go for a walk you can't do that in Thailand now, then we have the rainy season, so its not all that good
You,ll have to let me know where your at may pop up not to far
Love the lakes and the Highlands as I said you dress Accordingly
So enjoy from ,micks thai travels in a village near khon kaen songkran early got soaked this morning on the bike a week early ,iced water as well
Have a goodun
Wow I think I enjoyed this more then the day to day Thai videos 😂
Beautiful countryside
being out of shape eh? :D ..you will be back in form in 2 weeks tho.. not to worry
Why are you there for mate ? Been busy working and have not been able to follow everything. How long you there for ? Is it a start up ?
Just needed a change of scenery and to earn a bit of cash too 🤓
Was flying direct expensive Eva air or Thai airways big culture shock to the UK
Well into April, today was the first day we had just over 20C. We had to be very patient this year.
Compared to your ad interim stay, your Thailand farm is a crowded place. How did you end up in such a remote setting.
It sure is stunning scenery. How far would the nearest "city" or settlement :-) be?
It’s about 15 mins drive to a very small village, about 40 mins to a larger town 🥴
@@LifeinThailand777 When I drive 40 mins either north or south, I'm in different countries :=)
Gosh its just struck me that you and me have parallel lives, I got back to my chefs job 6 weeks ago and can totally sympathise with how your feeling now. I live north of Chiang Mai and can't wait to get home.I wonder how many chefs live in Thailand do the same as us?
I know mate, a few chefs from Uk have commented on this vid, I reckon the ease of securing casual work as a chef suit this type of life in Thailand etc
Interesting watching your trip and reasons. Where are you based? I came back to the UK from Udon last June. Struggled to get any work, possibly my age. I ended up staying at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery Hemel Hempstead from September and ended doing the winter retreat Jan Feb March. Amazing experience. My Thai wife joined me for the last 2 months. We now have a job in the Cotswolds working for a large family. Starting work as a couple gardener/house-keeping, like you I feel after Thailand my body is going to ache...
Wish we were back in Udon but need to save a little money before going back. Good luck looking forward to more videos.
Best of luck Michael. Live-in work is always the best way to save cash up I find.
We get accommodation with the role and a good wage.
Funny… I’m about the same age, I’ve just gone back to NZ for 10 weeks for work. My body is
Telling me to go back to Thailand… only 8 weeks and 5 days to go😃
😂😂😂
Welcome back 😂😂😂
Super vlog
Welcome back ben hope you earn a bundle of cash and get back to living life in Thailand 🇹🇭 keep your eyes on the prize 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Nice looking hotel and restaurant. Are the restaurant customers mainly hotel guests or is there a town nearby?
No town close by. Hotel guests and walkers 😇
The blue pipe was put there specifically to remind you of home 😂
Bring me back some galaxy bars 🤗
😇😇😇
So, would you rather 2degC or 40degC?
They both have their merits 😇
Can't get away from the blue pipework 😂😂😂
your sticky toffee puddin looks amazin ,recipe please x,lovley place where you aare walkin, hope u take that chap up and get ur haircut lolllll
Haha I’m at an age where I’m trying to keep as much hair on my head as I can before it all buggers off
LOL Blue pipe in UK, as the saying goes, the more things change the more things remain.
Do you still run an employment agency for chefs, as my son is interested in working as an agency chef.
Yes but I limit it to only one venue currently, as I’m very busy. If you ask your son to email me his CV I’ll keep an eye out 👍
Beautiful spot you're in there in Cumbria. But rather you than me, I'm afraid to say😂
Absolutely melting here BTW to hot
Bet that was a culture shock lol you be used to it in no time 👍
Welcome back to the uk 😂
But why oh why
My wife just text me and said its 41 in khon kean 😮
Oooo you are soo British man 😂😂😂😂😂
You must be missing the dogs 🐕 already
You know what I want to say, but I'm not going to say it, good luck anyway
You used the word Brutal when making pies? You wanna try scaffolding mate, I can tell you after 6 months in Thailand than your scaffolding a 20 story building in London in January that brutal! 😂
😆😆 just being on my feet all day was brutal. Yeah scaffolding in Jan sounds pretty bad, you can have that 🥴
@@LifeinThailand777 😆 enjoy your time in Cumbria it's beautiful there.
Your house is stunning btw
Moan moan moan 😂😂😂
Don't tell me it's not the chefs themselves bringing this "stress" onto themselves. Come on now, honestly... How difficult is it to put pasta in boling water and pull it out? Chop some veggies, stick things in and out of the oven, peel potatoes, slice meat and so on? It's not them cheffs doing some brain surgery, saving lives, putting themselves on lines of combat etc... Demanding job? Yes for sure. As many other jobs out there. But seems that the "industry" needs some major rethinking and reorganization. Can't see why 8 hour shifts couldn't be possible. And no it's not you I'm blaming for it. But thousands of videos of chefs on youtube trying to look like the sun would stop shining if they went home after an 8 hour shift. And a great video as usually. Likable guy with an interesting story. 👍
Haha hey apart from the physical toll of not having done any real work for past 4 years, it’s a pretty easy gig 😇
@@LifeinThailand777and you're great at it. Pretty flexible. Now imagine those commercial 12 -14 hour shift chefs going into your 40 Celsius setting and daily routine. Do you think they'd handle it? 😅 I personally doubt it. They'd probably go mad 555
Beautiful countryside Ben, and I bet the cold is biting hard.. It's still bloody hot here!
I was wondering if you are craving Pat-gra-pow yet? Bet you are!
Do you want to know what I'm craving... "Chicken and Ham Pie"..
Do you deliver?? 😊
Love Cumbria from the scenery tryingbto work out where you are. A couple of my favourite pubs/restaurants are Boot Inn Rksdale Valley, The Dog and Gun Inn at Penrith, Wild Duck Inn at Workington and the Brook House Eskdale
My favourite is the Woolpack Inn for its remoteness
Reverse culture shock is real lol I was looking for your channel for a few days (now subscribed) and glad I found it again
Welcome back!
Beautiful countryside
