  • On June 1, 2024, I went out on the ocean with one of my first known viewers, Ray Bly. Even though we've been friends for years, often sharing fishing info, this was the first time we met in person. We headed out of Newport Bay and spent the day off the Oregon Coast with non-stop fishing action.
THIS IS PART 1, where we caught our limit of SEA BASS along with some smaller lingcod. IN PART 2, we try for our limit of LINGCOD, and even give you a view of the strikes on the bottom of the ocean using a GOFISH cam.

I release a new fishing video every Friday at 6PM during the fishing season and occasional tips and gear reviews. This had to be the best day of fishing, actually, catching, I've had in a long time. Ray Bly, who I've come to know through my RUclips channel, offered to take me out on the ocean for some bottom fishing. It was an absolute blast!

The ocean looks nice. Good job on sea bass. Now you have to get a big lingcod.

It was an awesome trip! I couldn’t get the whole trip into one video without it being too long. We catch several more lingcod in part 2 and even capture a few hits on my gofish underwater cam.

This was like the day I had mackinaw and kokanee fishing on Odell last weekend. On a boat with 25-pound fish coming on board, I caught the fewest and smallest; and let me tell you, it was a rough crowd. 😂

A new fishery always presents a learning curve, but I had a perma-smile the whole day.

@@RAGEFISHING It sure looked like fun; and you recovered from your rough start better than I did. But I had a great time on my trip too, even while serving as the punchline of all the boat's jokes.

That'd be the Hammer of Thor. If you watch Ray, he takes one leg and keeps it locked against the side of the boat, giving him better balance. His rod tip was also lower than yours. When i am vertical jigging, my tip is just off the water, giving me more swing on my hookset. And using a level wind reel like Ray gives you more hookset power, although you warmed up and slammed those last two rockfish like a champ. It didn't hurt that Ray was watching the machine and could quickly switch depths based on what he saw. I tend to use one to two feet max on my upward flips when jigging, and will frequently change depths if i don't get bit very soon. They can nip alot sometimes, too, like you both experienced. Im getting seriously hungry thinking about those white meat fillets! Were you bleeding those right after applying the hammer to them? It is best to do so. You'll notice the difference between pink and white fillets based on that. Definitely a fun day and a solid first time after rockfish for you! Well done!

The hammer of Thor! Yes. 🤣 Thanks for all the helpful tips, I learned a bunch on this trip and will keep your tips in mind next time. Ray was a patient coach and you could tell be the footage he was focused on my success. And in the end, I figured it out thanks to him. We did bleed the fish by cutting the gills and placing them in that bleeder chute (I’m not sure what it’s called) Ray had on his boat. The fillets turned out great. You’ll enjoy Part 2! That gofish cam footage was pretty cool.

How was bar crossing? We have a smaller 16ft and have the itch to get out there for some rock fishing but the bars make us nervous.
Great content … eagerly awaiting part 2!

It wasn’t bad, but the ocean conditions were fairly decent that morning even though it was a little ‘Rollie Pollie’ as Ray put it. I’m in the same boat as you (so to say 😬), I have a Hewescraft 160 Sportsman and would love to be able to go out there on my own. I think it would have to be a bit calmer for me to feel good about it, but I’m new to boating so that may change. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! Part 2 is pretty awesome. The gofish cam footage was pretty incredible!
