It's interesting to see what people thought of the primaris space marines when they first came out. I joined the hobby when the primaris were the only type of marine in the store.
Thanks for sharing the sculpts. Worked out a trade to end up with 2x the Primaris side of the box set, so really looking forward to getting them painted up.
yeah... probably truescale tanks bikes ect next. I dont like the helmets and power boots on these. Looks like termi legs. Old models like Termis will look crap next to these.
That's really good news for me, I really didn't like the old space marines, they always felt kinda chubby and short. I think this are really gorgeous figures.
I'm just starting but I Have some Grey knights with a skitarii support detachment, a sneaky ork kill team and some death guard. I'm thinking about starting an all primaris space marine army but I don't really know which chapter to go for, I want something shooty and the Imperial fists seem to fit fluff-wise. What would you recommend?
Mike Adzinec great to hear Mike. I've got four myself. I'm going to be working on a series of quick start videos for the rules. Figured they'd be a good addition for community. Thanks for watching!
That's great. Looking forward to them. My youngest just asked me to ask you to please do Orks and Ultramarines if you can. I will give you two guesses as to which armies they have😂. lol. keep you the great videos.
Great review and very in depth, while I may or may not agree on some things. One thing kept freaking me out the whole video tho. The way You cleaned them of sprues. You manager to cut every rounded bit flat. Was that on purose or not?
not sure if this is a stupid question but how did you get hold of the set early? sponsorship I'm assuming? (awesome review, loved plague marine review also!)
The Inceptors (sp?) seem like they took some inspiration from Reapers from Starcraft 2. I wasn't too keen on them at first either but they are growing on me
Is there much difference in the size of the hands/arms in regards to regular Astartes? I was wondering cause i want to give that commander different weapons than the generic on model ones.
Most of the length is in the legs, so shoulderpads and heads should be good to go swap wise. These kits are fit together and might be more difficult to modify. I'm sure that multi part plastic kits are on the way soon, that'd probably be the best time to invest in the Primaris.
The boxed sets tend to be a bit more fixed in terms of posing. I'm sure the multipart kits will be out soon and you can mix them into your starter doods.
Mitchell Gillett The Dark Imperium Primaris models are essentially monopose, that was what Jes Goodwin told me when I was chatted to him about them at Warhammer Fest.
No, but there's always decals, and once the model is assembled, you could convert away. Or just wait for the multipart kits. The box is a crazy good deal though.
Oh don't get me wrong, the box is amazing value - hence I'm getting 4 of it. And I can paint the specific chapter markings if I want too but I really like the extra depth the chapter specific shoulder pads give you ... shouldn't be too hard for me to cut away the existing shoulder pad and replace them :)
see, I hope they don't make Gravis armor like the new format of Terminator armor because it doesn't feel like Terminator armor it just feels like some serf somewhere said "hey let's add a few inches of plate, not do anything spectacular with the sculpt and call it a day" like the inceptor squad had really got me excited bc of both the model and the rules. I already have a SM army built but I had a few open spaces for tanks and fast attack and such so I really think that I may be annoyed with the new sized sm but overall I commend Gw for keeping synergy in mind with the rules and lore.
Steve Miller they are least need to update terminator armor, it's ugly as hell as is. I wouldn't use anything other than forgeworld termis just cause of looks
Scarlet Grinner I think Chaos Terminators are just fine, thank you. It's supposed to be tank armour and it does kind of look it. The only change I'd agree with is perhaps making them a tad taller.
I just took a look back at the assembly instructions and yes, all of the heads are separate. Soooo... as long as you make sure you swap out the head early in some of the more encased torsos, you should be good!
i think the inceptors are a bit to curvy to be space marines, even for primaris. good for conversions though. also the hoods make it look like they're all librarians
I think of them as being dressed up like bomb disposal technicians. Super heavy armour because they'll be spending most of their time up in the enemy's faces.
the interceptors are fucking rad. for as much as I can complain about the new lore and the fact that girlyman came back before the lion I cannot talk shit about the visual design
The old scale marines are done for lol. the Primaris Marine models looks more to scale in the lore than the old scale does. Plus, their size looks more believable standing next to guardsmen models finally.
Real Space Marines don't need shock pads on their boots for landing! Also on a side note I am starting my first table top army (played the video games and followed the lore for years) and its space marines I just don't know which chapter to paint them as >
I've had problems in the past with sand and PVA separating from the base. Since I've started cross-hatching the bases with a hobby knife (giving the glue something to hold on to), the PVA has been really happy to stick to the base. I did a video example here: ruclips.net/video/oLQv6PNphB4/видео.html&index=8&list=PLDV5-1SVO42GttnOvzgy7_z4YfPBL6k00
Queston Stanley got your question, then I took a look. Although I wasn't initially optimistic, it looks like most of the helmet is there! If you're reasonably skilled / patient, I bet you could make it work without too much fuss.
ThePrefect thanks for the reply. New subscriber! Hope they do. I blew a ton of money on space marines to prepare for 8th edition and then they came out with primaris so I was pretty bummed. Wasted so much money.
Barbz wire Muscati social media editor all the heads are modeled separately. So I guess if you have enough bare heads you could easily convert them over.
why couldn't GM have just said they were updating the astartes models instead of coming up with this primaris storyline crap..they fit in well enough with the older models anyway and the players don't have to come up with way far out background to justify having these fuys in their custom chapters..
I personally don't like the new weapons. The bolters look more like machine guns then something that fires rockets. It's the length compared to the thickness. The plasmas also look a bit to thin. Otherwise I ove these models.
all shops with gw products have the primaris and the books since 2weeks. All of you can go and check them out. I´m going to put them in my dangels army, even if the fluff doesn´t make fucking sense .. there is no chapter master who wants his geneseed to be experimented on. And just think about how nobody really trusts techmarines just because they have some loyality to the mechanicum and not 100% loyality to the chapter
My guess is if they are loyal to the Imperium and a Primarch tells them "you are going to give these guys a go in your chapter" they are not going to say no even if it's not an order from their own Primarch and they don't like it.
The_Desert_Tiger but they are not under any obligation to follow gulimans orders. plus many chapters would be pissed about guliman experimenting with their gene-seed with out their consent.
Jooa Salmi Guliman is running the Imperium right now so yes they will have to take orders from him and yes they can be pissed off with him experimenting with their gene-seed but it doesn't change the fact that Guliman is in charge and they have to do what he says or be seen as traitors.
"Ok... ok... they're taking the photo.... pose down number 4?... no no... too Hulk... pose down number 6? naw... too Iron Man... how about I try... wait... you took it??"
Really nice models. A pity they had to rape the lore in order to justify moving away from the "old scale" ones. This whole "primaris" stuff is ridiculous
that was a really satisfying review , close up shots and size comparison
Glad i found your channel mate
Des Cyrus Awesome to hear my friend! Welcome to the channel.
It's interesting to see what people thought of the primaris space marines when they first came out. I joined the hobby when the primaris were the only type of marine in the store.
these new models are soo cool in comparison to the old ones, love them
Yeah, our gaming group is really loving them as well!
great to know the heads and shoulders pads are the same. Making Primaris Blood Ravens with should pads from shapeways.
Thanks for sharing the sculpts. Worked out a trade to end up with 2x the Primaris side of the box set, so really looking forward to getting them painted up.
Danny Rucker Awesome! Good luck with the project!
RUclips randomly introduces me to new channels, and I'm really thankfull for it. Great Video lad!
Thanks for the feedback!
Awesome, getting pumped. Grabbed a Dark Imperium box set, and 2 Primaris halves from ebay.
ZeLucid That's a lot of hurt making its way onto the stage. Good luck with the project!
whilst they are amazing figures, I can't help feeling this is the start of the end for the old scale marines.
yeah... probably truescale tanks bikes ect next. I dont like the helmets and power boots on these. Looks like termi legs. Old models like Termis will look crap next to these.
That's really good news for me, I really didn't like the old space marines, they always felt kinda chubby and short. I think this are really gorgeous figures.
I can't say I don't agree with you, but I've got 3 companies of marines 😕
I'm just starting but I Have some Grey knights with a skitarii support detachment, a sneaky ork kill team and some death guard. I'm thinking about starting an all primaris space marine army but I don't really know which chapter to go for, I want something shooty and the Imperial fists seem to fit fluff-wise. What would you recommend?
Is that supposed to be a bad thing? Imagine if everyone was still stuck on the rogue trader land raiders, compared to the modern ones.
Excellent review, man! 👍🏻 Quite often, size comparison is forgotten by others. Well done!
Nice review, can't wait to add them to my Imperial Fists force
Oh they look awesome looking forward for painting video
On it!
Really enjoying watching your channel with my two sons. They are pumped to learn how to play 40k. I figured I would wait till 8th and get them going.
Great video. Really answered the questions I had about these new guys. I am going to hate myself but I might end up picking up some of these guys..
DO IT! LIVE FOR NOW! :)
Oh ... and don't tell my wife.
Great review and very in depth, while I may or may not agree on some things.
One thing kept freaking me out the whole video tho. The way You cleaned them of sprues. You manager to cut every rounded bit flat. Was that on purose or not?
I only trimmed where the sprue was connected... nothing else. CAD issue maybe?
holy shit, what they should have been the entire time.
good review mate glad I found your channel have subscribed.
are these guy snap fit?
They are, but the way they sculpt and cut them don't make them look that way at all when they're done.
I think my Dark Angels will need a few of these.
Phantom3575 yeah, they're pretty rockin'
Arent they made from Ultra Smurfs gene seed? Made without the Emperors Blessing. Aka Heresy!
I agree Phantom, these boys will look mean in green :)
no. they are made from every one of the loyal original legions
So the D.A are perfect for the role
not sure if this is a stupid question but how did you get hold of the set early? sponsorship I'm assuming? (awesome review, loved plague marine review also!)
Calvin Cenz it's a promo copy graciously loaned out by Imaginary Wars in Calgary. Amazing FLGS.
facebook.com/imaginarywars/
The Inceptors (sp?) seem like they took some inspiration from Reapers from Starcraft 2. I wasn't too keen on them at first either but they are growing on me
I like em more and more. You really feel like they would jump into the thick of things and they're equipped as if they do just that.
I may get back into 40k because of these guys, when do the sets come out?
They're out as of the 17th of June!
Is there much difference in the size of the hands/arms in regards to regular Astartes? I was wondering cause i want to give that commander different weapons than the generic on model ones.
The arms are a shade longer. But the hands are the same size.
Is it possible, as GW mentioned, to use shoulderpads and heads from old marines on primaris ones? How do they compare in size?
Most of the length is in the legs, so shoulderpads and heads should be good to go swap wise.
These kits are fit together and might be more difficult to modify. I'm sure that multi part plastic kits are on the way soon, that'd probably be the best time to invest in the Primaris.
so theyre more limited in terms of poseability than regular space marine models?
The boxed sets tend to be a bit more fixed in terms of posing. I'm sure the multipart kits will be out soon and you can mix them into your starter doods.
Mitchell Gillett The Dark Imperium Primaris models are essentially monopose, that was what Jes Goodwin told me when I was chatted to him about them at Warhammer Fest.
Hey ! Nice video! where i can found bases like this? on the captain.
I mounted some cork on the base with wood glue. There'll be a tutorial in the future on how to make them.
Thanks for watching
Quick question, is the left should pad separate? I mean can I use the separate chapter specific shoulder pads?
No, but there's always decals, and once the model is assembled, you could convert away. Or just wait for the multipart kits. The box is a crazy good deal though.
Oh don't get me wrong, the box is amazing value - hence I'm getting 4 of it. And I can paint the specific chapter markings if I want too but I really like the extra depth the chapter specific shoulder pads give you ... shouldn't be too hard for me to cut away the existing shoulder pad and replace them :)
What about eh head size!? Can you use alternative space marine heads?
All the heads are the sameish size as regular marines and they're separate from the models so you should be able to switch them out.
Is dark imperium the only way to get these or will they release them separately?
Ms.Fortune there will be many releases I'm sure.
However, you'll never get a deal like this. The box is a pretty insane value.
Thanks for watching!
"They are Space Marines, they shall know no fear..."
Man. they sure gave these space marines alot of new fetishes
see, I hope they don't make Gravis armor like the new format of Terminator armor because it doesn't feel like Terminator armor it just feels like some serf somewhere said "hey let's add a few inches of plate, not do anything spectacular with the sculpt and call it a day" like the inceptor squad had really got me excited bc of both the model and the rules. question: are the heads separate allowing head swaps?
I just took a look back at the assembly instructions and yes, all of the heads are separate. Soooo... as long as you make sure you swap out the head early in some of the more encased torsos, you should be good!
i think the inceptors are a bit to curvy to be space marines, even for primaris. good for conversions though. also the hoods make it look like they're all librarians
I think of them as being dressed up like bomb disposal technicians. Super heavy armour because they'll be spending most of their time up in the enemy's faces.
hmm... mabye
Which chapter you will paint them?
I'm going to go with a styalized Ultramarine scheme. Figured I'd take a swing at doing the boys in blue with a more contemporary twist.
I'll be converting mine into wolves!!!
the interceptors are fucking rad. for as much as I can complain about the new lore and the fact that girlyman came back before the lion I cannot talk shit about the visual design
Agreed 100%
thanks for this vid... awsome

Awesome time to start, great things ahead!
The_Desert_Tige
what colours i need to paint dark imperium?
Влад Терещенко I'm doing a how to paint video this next week!
ThePrefect thank
Are GW going to get rid of the other space marines??
Not that I'm aware of
Nah, but don't expect many updates.
Why are the bases so scratched?
I've had problems in the past with sand and PVA separating from the base. Since I've started cross-hatching the bases with a hobby knife (giving the glue something to hold on to), the PVA has been really happy to stick to the base.
I did a video example here:
ruclips.net/video/oLQv6PNphB4/видео.html&index=8&list=PLDV5-1SVO42GttnOvzgy7_z4YfPBL6k00
can you make these guys Dark Angels?
"Can I paint them as DA"? or "Can they be made into DA"?
No, you cannot make these into dark angels, the legislation is yet to be passed.
Looking ace
What sucks is that they have to foot slog, they don't fit in transports yet.
Oh, I'm sure there's a solution in the works for that... something that I'll absolutely need to have.
The guy that has his helmet mag locked to his waist, how easy does it look to cut that helmet out to glue on him instead?
Queston Stanley got your question, then I took a look. Although I wasn't initially optimistic, it looks like most of the helmet is there!
If you're reasonably skilled / patient, I bet you could make it work without too much fuss.
ThePrefect thanks for looking. Depending on how they look when I get them I might give it a try. I'm terrible at painting eyes.
Queston Stanley heh
Can someone tell me if the shoulder pads come separately? I have a ton of ultramarine shoulders I'd like to use. Thanks.
Not in this iteration... I'm sure the multiparts are soon to follow
ThePrefect thanks for the reply. New subscriber! Hope they do. I blew a ton of money on space marines to prepare for 8th edition and then they came out with primaris so I was pretty bummed. Wasted so much money.
Looking at the Indexes, it looks like standard marines are not going to be outshone by the Primaris marines. They'll be around for a long time yet.
Woah, they look... They look fukin mean.
I want 2-3 Squads to paint. NOOOW
the gravis armour also looks like phsyker armour
Can i use the big ones as rhe usual marines too?
The Primaris are pretty solid... I think there's room for both sizes of model. But as long as your friends are cool with it, I don't see why not?
This starter set should’ve come with aggresors
How many marines do you have to have helmets
Barbz wire Muscati social media editor all the heads are modeled separately. So I guess if you have enough bare heads you could easily convert them over.
How to scale the originals should have been in the first place
They look nice. The Core bits on the backpack do look a lot Tau to me though... ...has Guilliman been a bad papa smurf?
clean those mold lines!
tyler elkins I agree with your sentiment. As all the kits are oddly fit together, I've learned to assemble them first and then do my scraping.
I miss having marines you can pose :/

I'm going to have to cut their shoulders off to put blood angel shoulder pads on them
The lead guy in squad A has the goofiest pose. What is he even doing? 0:27

Or... angry amphibians... really angry amphibians...
Angry, Swearing, Amphibians!
you clip way too close to the models
I call it "living on the edge"
shoulder pads are too small, i don't like them, looks like they are wearing a tight shirt.
I think they're calling them 'slim fit'
Really nice models. A pity they had to rape the lore in order to justify moving away from the "old scale" ones. This whole "primaris" stuff is ridiculous
Sigh, why couldn't they have fucked up 40k instead of fantasy?
You've made ugilest poses I've ever seen dude! Give 'em shovels, not bolters... Oh, mine quite the same;p...
