Great video and congratulations on getting an Impact. IMO both the Drumbrute Impact and the OG are both under-rated drum machines for what they are capable of. I had the OG and I regret selling it when I needed cash funds. Using the individual outputs and tuning each sound really makes a big difference once you get used to it. I think I'll be on the lookout for a Impact or maybe the OG if I can find a secondhand one
Woah! SWEET! I did not think to use the midi in this way. Maybe I’ll try this with the Model Samples, loaded with interesting loops and one shots. Thanks for sharing! 🎉
Thanks so much for this awesome contents! This is exactly the reason why I need a drumbrute impact! Could you please consider to make some kind of tutorial describing impact-midi process? Thanks again subscribed for more!
Yup, I also liked that sequencer, the randomization always felt musical. Looking to upgrade to an OXI One now, but I'll miss the touch sensitive pads...
@@meilstone I use the cv velocity outs to control all kinds of stuff in my modular setup. being able to sequence in 4 bars of control voltage is incredibly fun.
But Ableton and M4L has randomizers as MIDI effects which you could use to play your samples from the Amen if i am not mistaken. So what is the benefit of using the external DBI as a midi controller to randomize?
Excellent video. Thank you. And since I'm an idiot, I'd like to ask for some advice. I accidentally deleted the sound on the first pad on my drumbrute impact. kick. I need to return it somehow. May I ask what software you are using in the video and if that solves the problem? Thank you for your reply
Odd question: I have a keystep 37 and a drumbrute impact. I want to use my keystep 37 to control my drumbrute impact, how can I make this happen or is it possible? Thanks.
you can do the same thing with your behringer drum machine. I can just use my RD-9 and load up another drumset in ableton and just play, trigger, and sequence it with the drum machine.
@@MarcRenton Hi! In relation with this post, could you explain exactly what do you need (hardware, drumbrute and ableton configuration, etc.) and how do you connect (like midi out from the DB to "X thing" , or the drum rack you've made on the ableton)... I really appreciate it 🙌🙌❤️
just open up a drumset (rack) in Ableton and set the midi in on that channel to the midi out channel of your drum machine (works also with the Behringer RD-9 f.e.) you might need to "switch" around the drum samples to trigger exactly the sounds you want but it is generally already dialed in fairly good. you can of course create your custom drumrack as well in Ableton that you then want to trigger with your machine. that can include whatever samples you want to use. you can of course also make a track for each drum sound and set the midi in the same way as before but you will be able to easily process the sounds with dedicated FX for each sound.
you said, you could all of this with ableton stock plugins in the end. first, thank you for being objective on this. second, how would i set up a step repeat like you have demonstrated in ableton?
Thanks :-) If I get you correctly, all you need is the repeater-plugin that comes with Ableton and develop yourself a proper interaction with midi-controllers. The real value of the Drumbrute Impact is having all of this done already.
@@MarcRenton thanks for the reply. i will try this and see if i get it to work later tonight. i do not really need an external sequencer function, i am fine to use ableton and push for sequencing. i am actually looking for an affordable synth to sound design percussion, ideally without sequencer. but the beat repeater on the brute is cool and i would like to use that for live sessions. so, it would be nice to get this from the software side of things
I used to have the RD8. You see this in older videos of mine, just like that. If you desire the sound of a 808, get the RD8. If you desire a 909, get the RD9 (never had one). If you're looking for some intuitive gear, get a Drumbrute. I'm working on a live set currently, and prefer integrating the Drumbrute over any Electron gear I currently have.
The Drumbrute's interface is generating the ramdom notes, based on its patterns. 1) there is the random know and 2) the step/repeat function is adding additional value. Out of this, the Drumbrute is generating midi-data that I'm mapping to my Amen-sampler
Isn't there a thing that exist as a effects tool box? If not... why? Got a fair bit of little things that makes fun sounds and they all have various sequencers, delays, reverb, stutter and other effects that change the sound in fun ways but I kinda wish I have a central console that did all those things only. Is there such a thing?
something i cant figure out with the random knob, i know you can set per track, or global, but the problem i cant figure out, you need at least one step enabled on the sequencer, or else it wont trigger on that track. ex- if i dont place one step for the BD on the pattern, the random can be at 99%, and it wont activate the random function on the BD. until you put a step down.
My favorite part is where you blew your own mind and still haven't realized what you actually want is a Tracker. What's even better is you have a pretty decent tracker right by your hand. The Digitakt lol
@@MarcRentonso then the UI that you like specifically is the knob for random control and beat repeat touch pad? I have the OG drumbrute that I'm currently changing the voicing for, and I honestly love the drum machine UI, just not the sound.
I bought one of these yesterday, partially cos i saw this video ages ago and remembered it & thought, you know! Cool! I intend to start using Ableton live. So yeah.. thanks! 😁🫡
It got no affects , like Roland's so im still leaning towards tr6s . Sorry .. I have cheap stuff so im going treat myself ( and be skint ) .. and I can mess around on korgs beat and monologue .. with my tro8 boutique .. to get this so im needing sampling capability's as cheap as possible .with modern sounds .. it's still nice but I'm pure hands on also so I wouldn't do it justice .
word on the street is, that there is a Zoom stereo multi-effect pedal out there that does not break the bank and can offer a good and usable variety of effects for your synths. (i just looked it up and it is the Zoom MS-CDR70 for around 100euro) maybe you can find a used one... good luck and have fun.
This right here sold me on the Impact. Holy lord the mapping and random usage in Ableton like this....lovely.
GREAT HARDWARE ....get the beatstep.. both together shred beats.. 2 thumbs up for arturia
The step repeat function on the drumbrute is absolutely incredible. I love it.
I didn't even watch a review. That at the guitar center alone sold me

good review of the Arturia Drumbrute (Impact) Thanks!
Brilliant find. I love the sound skulpting relationship people are finding with their music hardware in these 20s years.
Estaba indeciso, pero tenés razón, necesito el DBI lo más pronto posible! Gracias!
Bro!!! You Germans ( just guessed it) know music better than anyone and always create the best sounds ! Convinced to buy one!!!!

🤣🤣🤣 people who know me in RL have seen even worse scenes
Tenho o Matrix brute, que máquina!!!
Arturia has great sequencers. Their Beatstep Pro (maybe the Keystep Pro too?) will also let you do this.
yeah of course a dedicated controller will do what it is designed to do;)

Great suggestion! Can you elaborate further what part of the midi-process I should focus more on?
There is a colour-function.
One added sound for each instrument.
I use the Arturia beatstep pro in the same way. It is a kick-ass sequencer.

It is!
Would love to have those drum samples from 6:00 onwards…🙃

Nice man, thanks for making this. I can buy one, the Impact of a Microfreak. If you had nothing, which would you pick?
It's like comparing tomatoes with salad ;-) but IMHO a Microfreak is more versatile from your POV.
Get the Impact to make stomping beats. Get the Freak to make Hypnotic sequences
Wow! This is coool!!!!! 👌👌👌👌

Awesome!!! ❤👾🥁🎛️📡🌌
How do you set up ableton to be able to interact with drumbrute impact like that? Need to know asap 🙏🏾
The Drumbrute sends its midi. Hence you can record it into Ableton and route it through any drum machine.

40 unskippable seconds of commercial on yt to see the start of this video :(

How are sections of the amen break synched up to the drumbrute and then randomly played in time?

Devious Machines Infiltrator 2, but it's in the box. Plus effectrix and a few others, also plugins. A hardware version would be amazing though!

Wait, is your name Giovanni Giorgio??? 😂 that voice, man!

Drumbrute. Clearly
