Holding Shift + pressing any pad of the instruments = selecting the instrument without make a moise , so you don`t get any interruption in a live situation 💥
Another great way to loosen up your drums that didn't see it mentioned: you can adjust the timing on individual steps by pressing /holding down the step button & dialing the swing knob for just that specific step. This is similar to the microtiming adjustments you can do on step by step basis on Elektron devices. This is a great way to add feel to a song because you can make specific kick steps, snares steps, etc come just before or after the beat. This is different than just adding swing to the entire track or adding different amounts of swing to different tracks. As a drummer, i find this to be the best way to humanize a drum machine beat because its essentially what i would do when playing an acoustic kit to give a song urgency (slightly rush certain bass kicks) or make a song more in the pocket (slightly drag certain snare hits).
One of my favourite things to do with randomisation is to add a color step to a sequence with no underlying step or accent then, as I turn up the randomisation for that track, notes with color trigger unexpectedly - this works particularly well with the FM drum
The Impact on its own can be a little dry sounding but imo this is one of its greatest strengths. It just responds to any kind of filter or FX you throw over it so damn well. And the sequencer is so good, I'll even use it as an outboard beat maker when I'm using Sitala to sample stuff. I completely fell in love with this machine.
The analog distortion helps a lot too, especially when you mix the kick and the hihats together! I usually don’t use the multi output, but getting the snare out does sounds like the best option, especially after watching this video 😁
@@FlorentChardevel I wish the distortion was routed to separate channels. I have a hard time not splitting the output because I tend to make delay and reverb-heavy patches.
@@tullamusic well I think the distortion sounds good because it’s routed together! you can use the free plugin Slampup to replicate the same distortion style
Reading the manual is really worth it, there are quite a few "hidden gems". As an example, you can program not just steps and accent but also color (with or without accent) in the step sequencer, so you get 4 different sounds instead of two. Then there is the use of the strip as a roller, which can allow you to insert triplets and stuff like that.
Thanks for the inspiration. The last few weeks have seen two developments in my use of the Drumbrute Impact. First, that MIDI out? Plug it into another synth. This isn't just a drum machine, it's a drum sequencer with melodic options. The second is using the unquantized sequencing for polyrhythms. I can pull off three over four and I'm working on getting a smooth five. I'm having fun.
(And for the record, my music buddy HATED the Impact when he first heard it. But when I ran the kick drum through a reverb pedal, he changed his mind. The ability to process individual voices elevates this unit.)
Learning to swing individual notes (+ or - and how much) and to record in unquantized mode are mandatory. And irregular time signatures. Randomization is a nice feature leading to discoveries but it escapes one's control.
Always happy to see new DBI videos. Thank you for this Liam. Hope to see more. Especially the tutorials. Thanks again! Do you own an Erica Bassline? Would love to see some tutes on this unit
Randomization is one of my favorite features on the DMI. The DrumBrute OG has it, too. If you use both machines together, you can get some pretty human sounding grooves going.
With a better snare and clap this would have been an S-tier drum machine. But that snare... I've literally never heard anyone use it on a released track.
I picked up one of these a while ago and while I have done some korg volca Jams with it I haven't done much more. I feel like I explored the sounds awfully quick but I'm busting it out today because I'm making up some new program kits for my mpc 1000 and I figure why not sample different snares and bass drums etc etc into the 1000. Or my mpc one but the 1000 and I fit better.

OK thanks. I decided to get a Alesis-SR16 then I saw the Alesis-SR18. I checked the PDF of the instruments on it and I was sold. I read good things about that drum machine. 👍🏽
loads of samplers out nowadays. also depends on what budget and preferences you want...want a fast sampler for live recording or import trough pc, cheap one volca sampler 2 or mpc with a better budget...but loads more to choose from...actually own and owned several samplers .still loving my digitakt..
Great video Liam! I'm on the fence between the Drumbrute or going all the way to get a TR-8S. I am liking a lot the Drumbrute workflow but I'm a bit worried I'm going to get tired of the sounds. The swing per track is a feature I didnt know I needed.
Is that kick problem ever fixed in a update? Hear none of you ‘influencers’ talk about it while i can clearly hear it in all the reviews and make think you dont mention it because a free model or money from arturia
well, we are all in control of what we decide to watch. I do not feel Liam is trying to brainwash me. Although if he was, I would not notice it since I would be brainwashed... OMG!!!!! That's why I bought a new synth!!!

You’re def right on this one
This is a really great tutorial for beginners like me, thank you 👍😆
Glad to help 🍻
I also like to add a little offset (shift + swing) between the snare and the clap to make them interact differently with each other!
Oh awesome! Thanks for this!
@@LiamKillen no problem, thanks for the video 🙏
Ah a flam, cool idea
Marvelous how-tos, thank you man, luv DBI even more now
thanks for watching! :-)
Loosen it all up and do the shuffle .. cheers to your breaking down .. harnessing the flow of sound in and through the Drumbrute Impact ..
😏 🍻
Nice one! Just got a Drumbrute Creation Edition and this is a good video for learning the ropes. Always good content mate!
Thank you!
You can hold shift and then select the track you want to randomize and it doesn’t trigger the sound, FYI
I absolutely love my DBI
Oh huuuge! Thanks for this
This machine where I learned music & have this channel now
😏

I don’t own the Erica baseline at this point. I really appreciate you reaching out! 🍻
Excellent demonstration! Looking to purchase my first drum machine. Drumbrute Impact or Behringer RD-8???
Drumbrute Impact IMO - if you want to have a more detailed discussion about it - my Discord community might be helpful ! discord.gg/xj8J2xJuBP
Randomization is one of my favorite features on the DMI. The DrumBrute OG has it, too. If you use both machines together, you can get some pretty human sounding grooves going.
Yeah it’s a lot more intuitive than most people realize
Per track randomization/shuffle... Weird, never tried it, yet! Thanks man.
It's spicy! And my pleasure :-)
i remember buying this and not liking it, I took it back within the next week. sometimes i regret it, but I try not to think about those things
It’s very specific so some people don’t think it’s worth it
@@LiamKillen im planning on getting an sp404mkii so maybe once I have more gear under my belt I'll give it a shot again!

Yeah you've really gotta dial it in to make that snare work - i know.

Is the impact capable of doing Maracas and tambourine or do I have to get the older brother?
No maracas / tambo on this one unfortunately
OK thanks. I decided to get a Alesis-SR16 then I saw the Alesis-SR18. I checked the PDF of the instruments on it and I was sold.
I read good things about that drum machine. 👍🏽
Does the Impact have generic USB so you could hook it right up to a USB-c iPhone or iPad? Could be even better?
I don't think so because it's analog.
Nobody talks about this because it’s right there, on the panel of the drumbrute.
🥲
Is there a similar sequencer device that allows you to import sounds?
Tr 6S all the way. Here’s a video: ruclips.net/video/ibaWpyekpJA/видео.html
And a comparison video with tr 6S + Drumbrute : ruclips.net/video/7ww--QBkkhs/видео.html

I use the sequencer on the Drumbrute Impact to trigger drum racks in Live so you can use it as a sample player.
Go for the Tr8s, no question.
Yeah if you’re looking for more variety the 8s is your vibe because you can sample with it.
Oh shit didn’t know this
😏
What is that duster you use?
Opolar!
I TOTALLY REGRET selling my impact to make $80 in chump change profit. It's a keeper.
the term "chump change" just makes me laugh everytime lol. Buy it again ! :-)
can it do hi hat triplets?
Maybe but I don’t know how I would pull it off.
Yes it can, they can be inserted via the strip both in step sequencer and real time.
Is that kick problem ever fixed in a update? Hear none of you ‘influencers’ talk about it while i can clearly hear it in all the reviews and make think you dont mention it because a free model or money from arturia
i didn't run into any kick problems - other than maybe the sound of it? lol
