Thanks for that little hack on the hats! Never really thought of that before, but it's easy to overlook since I have it for only a week now. I do like to point out that the Drumbrute is a fantastic drummachine with a very flexible sound engine and that only very few videos on RUclips did its sound justice. People call the sounds weak, but they really are not! RUclips compression muffles the raw sound a lot and I find that a lot of videos tweak the sounds way too fast and too extreme. That way you never hear its sweet spots! Besides that, the thing has outs, so you can easily fatten up the sounds! It's almost like people have forgotten that our trusty 808s and 909s were heavily post-processed to make its sound really stand out in the songs we love. This machine will be a future classic, if not for its sound it would be for its sequencer! I know that my Drumbrute will be in my studio for years to come! :)
im actually kinda happy people are shitting on it. it means i can grab it at a steal! never understood why people disliked the sounds. yes the hats and snare are a bit metallic and harsh but it's not a freaking x0x clone and yet very techno-y so yeah.
Your video was great, I've owned the Drumbrute for a while and i think the Accent page is where the machine comes alive. When the Drumbrute first came out most of the RUclips reviewers completely forgot to use it. Then people were complaining that it sounded weak but they just didn't learn the machine.
This video was immensely educational without wasting much time or over-explaining either. I have a Drumbrute coming in the mail so I'll keep watching your tutorials if you make more!
The DI is my only drum synth, and I made a couple of videos recreating classic beats with it. Thanks for going into detail about the Drumbrute, it deserves more attention than it gets!
It's really great when someone really gets to grips with a piece of kit and is prepared to share what makes it musical for them. See a drummer at work, we can all appreciate the nuance of their playing but a drum machine or a groove box? That moment; 2' 03"; when you-almost absent mindedly-played in those few notes and this magical little swung latin thing suddenly emerged, it was a lightbulb moment for me. I'm the world's worst finger drummer, so ...cool, I need to get into that. Thank you, Enrique!
Thanks for the vids bro! The great majority of providers of this type of material offer me nothing and frequently actively annoy me with their blatantly obvious lack of preparation, their dismal communication skills (or lack thereof), and their inability to present a lesson while maintaining any degree of focus or continuity. Your material however is clearly presented and the content has useful info more often than not. Keep up the good work.
oh duuuuude!! That knowledge about the closed hat choking the open hat is most excellent. I always thought there was some weird quirk with my drumbrute. THANK YOUUUUUU!
Swapping the open/closed hats is a great tip. I also prefer having the open hat on top. Another important unmarked shift feature is shift + step 9 to switch between looper and roller mode on the touch strip. When it's in roller mode, you touch the strip and press one (or more) of the drum pads and it will roll them.
I like to use the cymbal as an open (or closed) hi-hat. Thank you for these tips! I didn’t know you could set swing to individual steps. Can’t wait until I get home from work so I can play around with my Brute. Love your videos, they’re so chill and very informative at the same time. Keep up the good work. Love from the north of Sweden.
Yes Ricky. Good format, right video and 3 solid points that everyone misses out. I certainly didn't realise you could multi select hits for the timing shift, well useful. And the hat swap trick is an obvious notion but important to give people permission to do so. I should add to anyone liking for better info on the dB one other point everyone misses out on... If you want to be at 90bpm and apply swing like 90bpm hip hop but run a dnb beat... Hold shift +5 to run the sequence at 32_notes .. Also in this scenario you've got more notes to play with quantise off you can afford to play in triplets!! (where as at 180bpm only 16 notes are stored)
I'd love to see some tips of programming drums for house music, shuffling tips, etc on the Digitakt, drumbrute or any drum machine! And great video as usual Mr. Martinez!
Loved this, please do more! I think the drumbrute has great parameter ranges, and with all the outputs you can do great processing of the individual sound with e.g. guitar pedals or outboard (or modular). I own a number of drum machines and I like the drumbrute a lot, in my opinion it has the best sequencer hands down.
I have a Drumbrute and I really love the sound. Would totally welcome more videos on it as I think it’s been strangely overlooked by impatient folk. This machine has depth and serious sound. I am ashamed I did not work out the hats trick though :facepalm. I obviously need your videos!
That third tip is the kind of tip i appreciate the most. I love learning genre specific style tips, but with the gear i have. I tend to let limitations mold my music too often and just let other gear take over the hats and kick. That's silly though, because i actually love the drumbrutes hats, toms, and maraccas. Wouldn't mind hearing a track utilizing the toms more. Thats the kind of stuff that inspires me. Seeing and hearing how other people use instruments i tend to shy away from.
